Help with alignment in Dreamweaver CS5

Hello,
I've tried to follow all the tutorials regarding alignment with wrappers etc... but I still can't get it right. Worse, what was right originally, ie.e the navbar went haywire too. I'm at a loss and would be very grateful is someone could help me out.
Many thanks,
Sylvie

The best way to get any help here is by posting a link to the test
page.  Code is not appropriate in cases like this.  People have to see
what is happening before suggesting anything.
Good luck.

  • Need help with Patch Tool in CS5

    I am having a problem using the patch tool in Photoshop CS5. I click on the Patch Tool and select the Source option from the upper tool bar. Then I circle a gray area in the background of my photo and, holding down the left mouse button, I drag the selection to a black area in the background and release the mouse button. Instead of turning the selected area black it just makes the area slightly darker than it was originally. I just don’t understand why I can’t use the patch tool and any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you very much for these suggestions. Robert

  • Need help importing files into Dreamweaver CS5.5

    Greetings,
    Currently I have website that is hosted on GoDaddy.com http://www.4thdist.org/home.php  . This site was created by another person that is not available to help with my problem. I am attempting to modify or edit this website using Dreamweaver CS5.5 and having difficulties loading the files into Dreamweaver.
    First, using Filezilla I downloaded all the files and folders to my PC. At this point, I am stuck and cannot figure out how to upload or open the files and really need some advice. I read the Adobe help section on "importing" and it describes a .ste file. I searched the download folder and cannot find any file (*.ste)
    I am hoping to salvage the site and not have to reinvent the wheel and start over. Any advice would be extrmely helpful........Gary

    Thanks for the quick reply.
    Your comments raised some new questions. Let me update all on where I am. First, I am able to connect to GoDaddy server via the the local and remote views in the bottom right corner of DW. I see the file folder structure on GoDaddy. I can also see the file structure on my local hardrive that I copied using filezilla. Although, using the server connection I notice that I can download the files using this connection now. Should I delete what I did via filezilla and start over using the romote server connection? One more problem. I have content for two (2) websites on the remote server. http://www.vfwstatepoolleague.org/ This is in addition to the listed in my original post. Although, it appears the other website content is in a seperate folder. I assume that I will need to separtate this content somehow. At least link to it when I begin to start to create a .ste file for each site.
    I started to read the article "Creating your first website"in your post and should be very helpful. I did run into a little road block.
    I created (2) site names and linked to the appropriate folder on my hard drive. Although, I do not have: "check_cs5" folder on my local or remote folder. What does that mean? Should I create one?

  • Please Help!!! Dreamweaver CS5.5 Issues

    Someone please help. This is my second post.
    I have a proplem with Dreamweaver CS5.5 CSS panel. When you in the  css panel box when you select and add a property, and then tab over to  enter the values, all it does is highlight the box. In all previous  versions when you tab over, you would be automattically able to start  entering values without having to click in the fieild. Any suggesstions?  This is becoming very frustrating, and slowing down my workflow that I  have used since Dreamweaver CS3, CS4 and CS5.

    Duplicate posts within an hour is not a good idea.
    Tip #1 - Make a more useful title to your post other than "PLEASE HELP!!!".
    Tip #2 - Be patient.  This is a user-to-user forum.  Everyone here is a volunteer and cannot respond the instant you post something.
    I suggest keeping this topic within your original topic to avoid confusion.

  • Need help with session using dreamweaver

    have created a login page (php/mysql) with username and
    password boxes. when the form is submitted the mainpage loads up.
    i want the main page to be specific to that user, so i want
    their name to appear in the first line. eg.. Welcome back 'David'
    I read a tutorial in the past that tought me to send the
    users id in the URL and then create a record set on the mainpage
    that was filtered by the URL parameter.
    I have forgotten how to do this and the tutorial is no longer
    available on Adobe's site.
    I tried that with
    $_SESSION['MM_Username'] = $loginUsername; \\ in first page
    then
    echo $_SESSION["MM_username"]; \\in second page, but the
    problem is that is not showing user name.
    i need help with that please!
    can anyone tell me how to do this? Thanks in advance,
    AM

    IN the second page, you have to make sure that the session
    has been started.
    Put this at the very top of the page -
    <?php if (!isset($_SESSION)) session_start(); ?>

  • Help with alignment please

    I currently have one page on my web site that contains just one "box". In that box are about 16 items, each of which consists of a photo button and a few words of text to the right of the button. Each photo button links to a separate page of family photos. THE PROBLEM: Until recently all of these button with their associated text stayed in their correct positions. They still do in iWeb, but NOT actually on the web when visited. When viewed on the web via Safari the photo buttons still line up nicely along the right side of the "box", but as one scrolls down the buttons, the text that should be to the right of each button progressivley moves up to higher buttons rather than staying put. What have I done wrong, and how can I make this right? Thanks!!

    This is caused by the way iWeb interprets line height versus the way any given browser interprets line height. In iWeb it might look like it's all lined up, but when published, the browser then takes control of display and it often displays line height smaller than what iWeb does - it essentially compacts your text. You don't notice the small difference at the top, but you do as the text progresses.
    Max is on the right track I think, but I'd actually do this to totally eliminate the issue. For each picture you have, make an individual text box for the associated text. Align each text box to the top of each photo. This way the text always stays aligned to the photo. That just won't happen when it's all in one text box.
    By the way, great job of describing the situation. That certainly helps.

  • Need help with URLs (Mamp/Dreamweaver/Apple Lion)

    I'm in the midst of a major upgrade - Apple Leopard > Lion and MAMP 1.x to 2.0.5. I also installed CS3, with Dreamweaver, on my new laptop.
    Anyway, everything seems to be falling in place, except for one major snag - I can't view my web pages in a browser.
    On my old laptop, I have it set up so that I can view each of my websites at a simple URL, like this: http://SL. My sites are stored in a top level folder named Sites.
    I used the settings in my old computer as a guide in setting up a site in Dreamweaver and MAMP/Hosts on my new laptop, but I can't view a page at http://SL. http://localhost/SL and http://localhost don't work, either, whereas http://localhost:8888 prompts a "Forbidden" message.
    However, I can access phpMyAdmin at http://localhost:8888/phpMyAdmin/?lang=en-iso-8859-1&language=English
    When I was setting up the site in Dreamweaver, I got the following error message:
    "Dreamweaver cannot use the prefix you entered to displaly live data. Please double-check your site configuration or click on Help for more information on how to correct this problem. (HTTP Error: 0)." I didn't explore the Help menu immediately, and I can't recreate the error message now.
    I read somewhere that I should put my html folders in the htdocs folder so I tried that with one site, with the same result.
    Anyway, can anyone tell me what I have to do to make a website located at Users > (Me) > Sites > SL display at http://SL?
    Thanks.

    In MAMP Pro setup ports for Apache/MySQL to 80/3306 then setup virtual host in Hosts tab. MAMP doesn't allow extending virtual hosts, only MAMP Pro does that. Are you using MAMP or MAMP Pro?
    best,

  • Help with alignment

    i have dreamweaver cs4 to align text i was wondering if there is any other way instead of going into the css part of the properties panel, and right clicking, because i remember in dreamweaver cs3 the alignment of text was right in the properties part not in the css part of the properties.

    You have asked this question before.  CS4 requires you to use the CSS properties panel because that is how modern web pages need to be styled  - with CSS not HTML.  If you start your projects using a pre-built stylesheet with all your text styles defined, this shouldn't be a problem.
    http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/css_howto.asp
    On the other hand, if you are avoiding CSS because you don't want to learn it, then CS4 is probably not the ideal tool for you.  Go back to using CS3.

  • Need Help with alignment  in JTextField

    I am having problem with text alignment in JTextField.
    I'm populating JTextfield with text pulled from database.
    Text is too long to fit in the jtextfield and the alignment is set to the right rather than the left.
    How can I set the alignment left, so that the first character of the string is shown?
    I've tried setHorizontalAlignmnet(JTextField.LEFT) but no luck.
    Can anyone help me in this.

  • Help with alignment of dynamic menu

    Hi.
    I can't for the life of me get the main meny (a bc dynamic menu) to align center on this site http://www.eaglerockfarm.com.au/home.htm. At the moment I've fudged it with a 350px left margin, but that only looks ok on smaller screens, larger ones, It's to the left and smaller, i.e an ipad, it's to the right.
    I have a div id in the css "nav2" with text-align:center, but when I inspect the element (q) in Firefox, it crosses out that line. I also tried putting in the text-align:center inline, but nothing seems to work...I am not a developer, but have an average understanding of css and html...
    Can anyone assist please?
    Thanks.

    Hello justasking506,
    To bring your main menu to center just change the div#nav2 to:
    div#nav2 {
        font-size: 14px;    height: 20px;
        margin: 0 auto;
        padding-bottom: 10px;
        padding-top: 10px;
        width: 633px;
    Here you can see that I've changed the margin to "0 auto", that will put auto margin on the left and right of the div. Now the width needed to be a little bigger to center the div.
    I would also suggest not using the default dynamic menu type. This is using tables to output your navigation. Instead I would suggest using the CSS(HTML Only) menu type, this will use an unordered list and will allow you to use your own css to position the navigation. I go over how the dynamic menus work in this video:

More recently, I have been asked to change some marginal issues, plus create some things from scratch. I naturally went to Fireworks to do my layouts. I need to understand the best way to create something in FW and export it so that the code is as complete as possible fro DW. I know it is not that simple, but the web work that I am doing fro right now is VERY simple stuff. i just dont know the basics to get it done. Please help.
    Thanks

    Fireworks is not a coding environment. Use Fireworks to design your layout and export your graphics. Use Dreamweaver to write the code to implement the design. The code that Fireworks can export is for creating prototypes with; it isn't intended for live sites.
    If you want to expand your skill sets in the Web area, then that means learning HTML and CSS. You cannot get by on the exported code of a graphics program. Here are a couple of beginner tutorials:

    http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/html-css-techniques/design-and-code-your-first-website-i n-easy-to-understand-steps/ (Excellent; the author uses Photoshop in this tutorial, but it can be done with Fireworks just as well.)

  • Need help with spacing in Dreamweaver

    Hi I need help I making a site in Dreamweaver using a box format. I have ever thing done but I have a gap between my header and nav-bar that I can not close. What should I do?

    By default, browsers add their own margins and padding to HTML elements.  Many people use a CSS Reset to remove this default spacing and then add their own values to individual CSS selectors.
    This quick and dirty reset uses an asterisk (*) as a wildcard selector.  This removes default margins and padding from everything:
    CSS:
         * {margin:0; padding:0}

  • Need help with tables in dreamweaver

    So I can insert a table in dreamweaver but fine tuning it is
    a problem.
    I cannot find how to access individual cell properties to
    apply borders on only the sides of the cells I want. Also I can
    configure the width of the columns only by dragging the divider
    left and right. It does not allow me to input figures anywhere to
    set column widths.

    To set the widths in the HTML, look in the properties panel
    and find the "cell" area near the bottom left. You can enter a
    pixel value there.
    To set borders for individual sides you should use CSS. Read
    up in the help section about external style sheets. You can also
    set your widths there if you like.
