Help with audio books on CDs please
Please be gentle, I'm totally new to the ipod phenomenon and itunes etc.
Just got a new ipod touch and want to put my previously purchased Harry Potter audio cd's on to it to listen to. Trouble is when I do that it classes them as music rather than putting them in the audio book section of the ipod. Now it's not a huge problem but it really is quite irritating. I object to paying the extortionate rate on itunes for something I've already got so don't want to download them again.
Is there a way of changing the way itunes recognises my cds to class it as an audio book and if so is there a way of combining the 7+ cd's for each book together so that it becomes just 1 book rather than having them as seperate cd's called the same thing? (hope I'm making sense here!)
If anyone can help I'd be very grateful.
Take another look. The Aldoblog isn't really complicated. The summary of items to note
- You can reduce your file size by going to preferences/advanced/import and changing to 32kps (more details in the blog). Not necessary, but will save you lots of space.
- You want to joint the cd tracks to limit the number of files. Highlight all the tracks, and select join tracks from the advanced menu. You do this each time you import a disk, and end up with one track for each CD.
- Once you've got all your disks read in, then select the tracks to get info (you can right click). Under options, select "remember playback position". That way when you only have to remember which disk you last played.
I create a playlist for each audio book.

i have a few audio books on cd, when i rip them to itunes i am unable to catagorize them as an audio book. thus they show up under music in my ipod and the audio book folder remains empty. i tried creating a genre for audio books but that still leaves them listed under music. any one know how to fix that?
Only audiobooks from ITMS, audible.com and AAC files with m4b extensions (applescripts for mac) show up in audiobook main menu, skip in main menu shuffle, and allow faster/slower/normal playback speed.

Help
LarryAre you leaving your iPod off long enough for it to do a soft reset -- apple logo showing?
If that is the case, will loose current bookmark upon automatic soft reset when left off for times that vary by iPod. You can force the bookmark by leaving the audiobook and going to a song.
Otherwise, try a soft reset (hold menu and center button simultaneously until apple logo appears on display).
Just to be sure, do a right click, show file to see if m4b extension.
Try downloading some free content from somewhere and see if those bookmark. i.e., http://www.learnoutloud.com/Free-Audio-Video/Biography/Autobiography/The-Autobio graphy-of-Benjamin-Franklin/18190
be sure to chose mp4 download of this Franklin autobiography
All else fails, a hard reset.

Help With Audio Issue in DVDSP Please
Hello, everyone. I authored a session in DVDSP that - while in simulate mode - works out quite alright. Everything checks out well visually and audially. However, once I either make an actual physical disk of the session, or create a Build of it, I end up going back through the newly created disk, and I find that - although the audio in the main presentation section of the DVD is at the correct volume (i.e. the actual/main movie file being presented) - the audio in the "Extras" portion of the session (i.e. the commentaries and the deleted scenes) is like 5 to 10 dB lower than it should be!
It's driving me up the wall, because, again, the audio checks out perfectly when I'm IN the program using the simulate mode. It's when I go to make an actual disk of the project that I find later this issue. And it happens also when I go to make a Build of the project.
What on earth is going on?
I hope someone knows and can offer some help.
Thank you much all in advance for the help.
Javier CalderonHey, Hal. Yep. I checked.
Under the Audio tab, I have this:
File Format: Dolby Digital Professional
Extension: ac3
Target System: DVD Video
Audio Coding Mode: 2/0 (L,R)
Enable Low Frequency Effects is diabled
Sample Rate: 48kHz
Data Rate: 192 kbs
Bit Stream Mode: Complete Main
Dialog Normalization: -31
Under the Bitstream Tab, I have the following:
Everything is pretty much greyed out/disabled and the Dolby Surround Mode is at "Not Indicated".
Preprocessing Tab:
Compression Preset: None
And everything else is either greyed out or not selected.
The audio, again, in Simulate mode while in DVDSP sounds find and as I'd like it. When I do a format of the project, however, that's when I discover the differences audially. Might you know why it is then, that my audio is sounding 1) quite a bit louder than the original QT file that I'm compressing from FCP, and 2) why that file is . . . well . . . it seems like it's attenuating at places - i.e. there are moments when there are drop offs in the volume that are not HUGE, but I can perceive them . . . and those moments AREN'T in the original file.
Thanks much for the help,
Javier -
Could someone please tell me how i get an audio book to appear under the category "Audio books". Everytime i import an audio book into itunes it shows up as a song file and ends up in the middle of all my songs instead of its own category? ? ?

Help with Audio for Premiere Project
Working on a lengthy project and need some help with audio which is not my specialty!
I am recording using a Sony EX1r and a wireless lav mic, OK. Here is what is happening.
When I import the clip into project I get Audio from the left speaker. If I burn a DVD and playback on home player with surround sound, I get audio out of just the left speaker which makes sense. SO I go to Premier and use "Fill Left" which fixes the audio on my computer and get sound from left and right speakers. The odd thing is that when I play this version back from DVD on the surround sound system, the audio now only comes from the CENTER speaker. I dont get anything out of left OR the right speaker so it sounds hollow.
I am sure I am missing something obvious so please be kind.
Is there an easy way to get my audio to come out of Left, Center, and Right speakers (and rear for that matter) ???
Thank you
TedBill,
The DVD player is a Sony BluRay and the receiver is an Onkyo AV receiver HT-R380.
My thinking is that it is something that I am doing wrong inside Premiere vs something that the DVD player or receiver is doing. My final product will need to play on a variety of DVD players so I need to get it right.
It just seems odd that my default output DVD provides sound to the left speaker but then removes it when I fill Left.
Am I setting up my audio tracks wrong? Or should I being doing something with a 5.1 track???
Thanks

Help with Adobe.premiere.elements12. Please
It would appear under the organizer tab that the photos are organised in the lowest folder in the folder structure within Windows Explorer. How can I use the Windows Explorer structure to organise the photos within Elements. In a situation such as yours, I tend to consolidate items into folders so I have folders of nice workable numbers of images, somewhere between 20 and 200 images. Now, whatever, once you've imported, do your moving within LR, not the OS! I will select all in a folder and drag into a folder a level or two or three above, and then delete the newly empty subfolders. I hope this helps a bit!
Once you've reached just new Imports of camera output, you'll be flying along. -
Please help with audio problems, thanks!
Hi, I'm relatively new to DVD studio Pro and so far the manual has been useful but i've run into some sound related problems. I'm a composer/sound designer and this DVD is to be my reel so these are fairly integral issues to its success.
First, I want to add a sound effect to each of the roll over states, so one sound for the "over" and one sound for the "down" state. Currently i can only add audio as the backing track for each menu.
Second, whilst most of the items on the dvd are movies that include my music, I also want to have a page purely of audio tracks which play when pressed without changing the page. How can i do this? The only DVD i've seen this done on is "The Thin Red Line" extras, promoting the soundtrack to the film.
Thanks.Welcome to the forum/discussions CC!
Sorry to have to inform you, but unfortunately layered menus aren't supporterd with audio in DVDSP, and technically what you're attempting is a layered menu-type function - although it just may be possible with scripts, I doubt it.
Your second request can be done however and there's several ways to go about doing it.
I like DVD@ccess but others would recommend a method of simply placing the audio files in the built file of the DVD making them accessible to users.
Another method I could suggest is to make a menu page exactly like the one you want to look the same and have the song you'd like to play as the music track for that duplicated-menu in question - set the target of the link for the song in the menu to go to the menu that has that song as the music track. Repeat that for the number of songs you'd like to have this feature. -
Need some URGENT help with 3 DVD mastering issues PLEASE! :
Hi there,
Firstly, I am running DVD SP 3.0.2 on Mac OS 10.4.7 on a G5 Dual 2 GHz 3Gb Ram plenty of HD space...
I am creating a DVD with: An intro sequence, a main menu, 4 sub menus, and 4 sections with around 12 chapters each.
I am having some big problems, and a pretty stuck. I will lest them separately below, numbered. If you are able to help, please refer clearly to which number you are helping with. Any help is MUCH appreciated! Many thanks!!
1. Each of the 5 menus (1 main, 4 sub) have a background video, and a separate audio track. I added the background videos by simply dragging them to the assests panel, then from there onto the menu editor window. They are created in FCP and are properly encoded. However, when I click the motion button, or use the simulator, the videos do not show up. The music plays, but all i see is plain black.
What is going on?!?!?!
2. I am really struggling with rollover buttons. I have custom created buttons, and I wand them to have a soft red glow around them when hovered over. HOW ON EARTH DO I ACTUALLY DO THIS??
The buttons are in photoshop so can be exported with/without background/glow in any format.
3. Is it possible, once I have got the above rollover working, to have an image to the right hand side of my buttons which changes with the the button rollover. i.e. hover over button 1, see image 1. hover over button 2, image changes to image 2.
PLEASE PLEASE give any help you can, I have a deadline coming up and am quite stumped. Thanks again!!I am still having problems regarding issue Number 1. PLEASE ANYONE HELP?!
Sorry, I'm not sure about the motion menus. I avoid those whenever possible. But you might click on the menu in the storyline tab (whatever it's called -- the hierarchical view with the disc, tracks, slideshows, etc.) and look at the properties and see if there's anything you have to enable specifically for motion. And be sure the motion button is on on the main display/preview area, but it sounds like you already know how that works.
For your information, here is a screen grab of the menu I am trying to create:
http://www.redhavoc.co.uk/stuff/menu.jpg
I think it is obvious that when a button is hovered over, I want it to glow red, and the image to the right will change to match the respective button.
IS THIS GOING TO BE POSSIBLE????
Yes.
First, your menus have to be layered menus. Unfortunately, there's no way to convert non-layered menus to layered menus, so if you already have non-layered, you'll have to just delete them and create new layered menus. The button (and menu item) to create a layered menu should be right by the normal new-menu item.
Next, the graphical work is all in Photoshop.
Side tip: You may already know this, but I found it's best to use 640x480 for the Photoshop document. When I do text and leave it as a text object in the Photoshop file, it resizes poorly in DVDSP. So this ends up being another 720x480 vs. 640x480 square/rectangular pixel conversion thing. DVDSP plays in the 640x480 world, at least as far as the designer can see. So I keep my images at 640x480, and it doesn't have to resize, and everything looks right.
Moving on... Set up your basic background, the part that won't change (or will have other things covering it, like for your square image).
Then put in all the buttons and images you'll be using, each part in a separate layer. This could have fifteen buttons (you have five buttons, and there can be three versions for each -- inactive, selected, and activated versions) and five or six square images (you said one for each button, and you might want a blank default if, say, you want to add a "back" button on the menu and want some blank or default image for the square when they're on the "back" button).
Sometimes people don't bother with a separate "active" button state, but you usually want some visual feedback that they clicked the button. Also, I usually just build the default (unselected) button into the background; that's less hassle later on, and it will just draw the selected or activated buttons over that when the user is on that button.
Line up all your buttons and images. All the square images lined up perfectly on top of each other, all the buttons in the right places (so you'll have three buttons stacked on top of each other in each spot). Give each layer a short but quickly recognizable name, and line them up in a consistent order. (button1-default, button1-selected, button1-active, button1-squarepicture, then button2-default, ... etc.) Photoshop and DVDSP don't care, but it makes it easier for you later.
Note that earlier versions of DVDSP won't show Photoshop layer effects. (They handle layers, just not the effects, like inner glow, outer bezel, etc.) I don't remember when they changed this, but I think it was version 4.something. So if you're using that method to make your buttons glow, you may have to flatten each selected or active button layer, and you may even need to create a dummy blank layer underneath it first to give it something to flatten onto.
Save the file as a standard Photoshop file (.psd). Drag the file onto your DVDSP layered menu and set it as the background.
Now, in DVDSP, create all your buttons. Just drag boxes over/around the button pictures you have. Feel free to make them extra-big; users won't see the actual area you've selected, and bigger areas makes it easier for people to hit them if they're using a mouse on a computer to watch the DVD. You can point the buttons to their targets now if you want, and set the end jumps on the tracks if you want. (I tend to set the end jumps on the tracks so they automatically select the button for the next track.)
Now's the fun part, since it will actually hook everything up and should be easy if your naming layer order were consistent. Click on the layered menu (in that hierarchical view) and look at the properties window. (Sorry I can't remember the technical names for all these windows; I'm doing this all from memory. So feel free to ask more questions if you can't find what I'm talking about.) One of the properties tabs should have a grid of checkboxes with a list of your layers. Make sure the background is checked for all of the states. Then check the layers you want to show for each button state, as well as the corresponding square image to show for each.
Again, I'm doing this from memory, and I can't remember exactly how things are listed in that grid. But I remember it keeps your layers in the same order you put them in the Photoshop file and shows you those names, so it should make it easy to go down the list and check the right boxes.
And another side tip: You can update the Photoshop file, but once you've put it in DVDSP, if you change the layer order, it will screw up the check boxes you checked. It always shows you the layer names correctly, but it keeps the checkboxes in DVDSP simply assigned to the layer number, so the fifth layer will keep the same checkboxes even if you juggle them so some other layer is now the fifth layer. So if you do juggle the layers in Photoshop, go back and fix the checkbox list in DVDSP.
I put a sample Photoshop file based on yours in
http://dan.black.org/layered-menu-sample.psd
It's quick and dirty, but shows the layer layout, and you should be able to drop it on DVDSP to play with. (I also won't leave it there forever, maybe a few weeks, so anybody reading this in a month or more probably will get a 404 for that url.)
Again, doing this from memory, so feel free to ask if anything doesn't work or doesn't make sense.

Urgent Help with Planning Book
Hello Gurus,
Need your help with a very urgent issue. I cannot see my key figure values in my planning book(Interactive Planning). I could sucessfully generate my CVC, then initialised my planning area. Then when I go the interactive planning I can see all my characteristics -Ex Material master( has all values), Prod type has values, etc. Iam in DEV system and have to move the whole config to QA now. I have to validate that the config works in QA. Its works ok in the sandbox but I cannot figureout why I can not see the values for key figs that Iam loading from a Flat File. Please help!!!!!!Hello Suresh,
I have one more question for you. Let me tell you my scenario. I have the client giving me a rough forecast for the future. I have to do stat forecast based on the history and check that against the initial forecast given by them. But, the problem I realised now is that when I go to my planning books I can see the values for 2008 in mothly buckets since I have 0calmonth. But the client gave me another file with forecast for 2008 in monthly buckets and for 2009 and 2010 in quarter buckets. So, i have a planning buck profile defined to meet that but, how do I upload the file with both 0calmonth and 0calquarter in a single file. Please let me know!! Urgent task.
Thanks again,

I have purchased "God is Not Great" Audio Book by Peter Hitchens. This is a 4 part audiobook - each part being approx 2 hourss long. It plays fine on the computer but doesn't work at all on my iPod nano. It transfers from the computer to the nano with no problem but when I play it on the nano the screen just cycles repeatedly through the four parts in quick succession and no sound comes out.
Any help would be appreciated.Okay, after a couple of hours scouring the net and pulling my hair out, I now have to confess that I have solved my own problem - an embarrassingly easy solution as it turns out!
I have now gone to 'settings' on my iPod and found that audiobooks was unchecked for the menu options. I simply checked it again and 'hey presto' - suddenly I can find my audiobook on the iPod.

Help with Audio Device Playback
Hoping someone out there can help. Before I updated to iTunes 7, I played back all of my iTunes music through some studio monitors connected to a Digidesign Mbox audio interface. Since upgrading, I cannot get clean audio using this device. When I select "Digidesign Mbox: Chan 1-2" as the default sound playback device in my QuckTime preferences, playing a song in iTunes gives me a garbled sound--almost sounds like a CD that's skipping. Can anybody help with a solution? I hate having to listen to my tunes through two tiny cheap computer speakers!
Thanks in advance,
MikeI have the same problem. I get the garbled "Skipping" sound when I use the new version of iTunes. The only way I have to get around it is an old version of iTunes 6 I have saved - it has the same version of Quick Time Attached that was good (then) and should work with the WaveDriver. I have an MBOX 2 and it sounds GREAT.
It really is bad that Apple has this "New, Great" iTunes but it won't work with the existing hardware. I can go from my Sound Card out to my Monitors, but the sound quality is bad. And it is so much easier to just use the MBOX volume adjuster - it is very handy.
Apple, please fix this problem. I want to download DRM free music but iTunes 7.2 does not work with MBOX 2.

Need help with order booking tutorial
Hi
I am new to OracleFusion.
Started Learning By practising OrderBooking tutorial for 10g.
I am practising parellel branching in the tutorial .
I ve invoked Rapid distributors service in branch 1 of the flow activity.
and
i ve invoked Select manufacturing service in branch 2 of flow activity.
I ve deployed order booking service, rapid distributed service, select manufacturing service in the server.
Select manufacturing service is an asynchronous service .for this service to be complete it requires user to manually set price for the item ordered.
So I accesed SelectManufacturinUI in browser as instructed in book. The problem is tht it is directing me to login page where User id and password should be submitted.
In the tutorial no info is given regarding login details fot this page.Hence i am not able to set price for order.
So the Select manufacturing service is not completed ..hence i am not able to move further in the tutorial..
Kindly help with this..if any one has faced same prblm
thanksHi
