Help with audio clipping

Hi,
I'm very unfamiliar with the audio filters in FCP. I recorded a vioce using a mic and the voiceover tool, however some of my words get 'clipped' and it makes a annoying tick noice. Which filter and what setting are best used to eliminate that?
Thanks!!

The best remedy for clipping audio is re-recording at the proper levels. Once audio is clipped, its usually toast.

  • Help with Audio for Premiere Project

Working on a lengthy project and need some help with audio which is not my specialty!
I am recording using a Sony EX1r and a wireless lav mic,     OK.  Here is what is happening.
When I import the clip into project I get Audio from the left speaker.   If I burn a DVD and playback on home player with surround sound, I get audio out of just the left speaker which makes sense.    SO I go to Premier and use "Fill Left" which fixes the audio on my computer and get sound from left and right speakers.    The odd thing is that when I play this version back from DVD on the surround sound system, the audio now only comes from the CENTER speaker.  I dont get anything out of left OR the right speaker so it sounds hollow.
I am sure I am missing something obvious so please be kind.
Is there an easy way to get my audio to come out of Left, Center, and Right speakers (and rear for that matter) ???
    Thank you
    Ted

    Bill,
The DVD player is a Sony BluRay and the receiver is an Onkyo AV receiver HT-R380.
My thinking is that it is something that I am doing wrong inside Premiere vs something that the DVD player or receiver is doing.    My final product will need to play on a variety of DVD players so I need to get it right.
It just seems odd that my default output DVD provides sound to the left speaker but then removes it when I fill Left.
Am I setting up my audio tracks wrong?  Or should I being doing something with a 5.1 track???
    Thanks
    Ted

  • Two problems with audio clips

    Hello,
I'm having two problems with audio clips:
    1. When I try to drag a clip from the viewer, I can't do it because it won't let me drag the clip. It only lets me drag the pointer around within the clip.
    2. When I drag an audio clip from the browser into the timeline I don't get any audio, just a series of beeps (and yes, my audio media is on-line -- I can listen to it in the viewer, just not the timeline).
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    1. Drag the little hand on speaker icon to drag from
    the Viewer...
Thanks! (Does it actually say that in the documentation anywhere? I try to RTFM, but the FM seems to be a little, er, mute on this point.)
    2. It means your sequence settings don't match the
properties of the source audio you're putting in it,
and you either need to change the settings in the
    sequence, or render the audio.
Ah, that would explain it. Thanks!

  • Flash Newbie needs help with Movie Clips/Action Scripting

    Hi -
I'm having a problem with my movie clips playing
simultaneously and cannot, for the life of me, figure out what I
have done wrong. I'm new to flash, so I may have set something up
incorrectly, but here's what I have so far:
11 layers, total: 1 layer with 10 control buttons, each
    button with the following actionscript:
    on (release) {
    gotoAndPlay(85);
Where the number changes in relation to which keyframe the
    next movie is on.
I have 10 movies, total, but they are only movie clips,
essentially photo slide shows with audio, made all in the library.
The problem happens when I click on the second or third
button. Not only does the movie that I have selected begin to play,
but all of the previous clips do as well, so it all sounds quite
garbled. I don't know what I am missing in the action script, as my
Action Layer has a stop command on it at each keyframe where there
is a new clip to play.
I have tried to add a stopAllSounds command, but I'm afraid
that doesn't do anything because it is not a "sound file" per se,
    playing in the timeline.
I'm at the end of my rope and really need some help in
figuring this one out. My project is hanging in the balance on
this, as I have scripted everything else correctly and it runs
    beautifully.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Caroline

Each layer has a blank keyframe before and after each
movieclip. Each movie clip is at a different frame. Even with the
blank keyframes added, the second video starts to play and then the
first video begins to play. Same happens if I click on the third
button. Third plays, and starts 1st and 2nd shortly thereafter. Is
there an action script I can put in that will tell the timeline
that, when a button is clicked, no matter where the movieclip is,
it will stop and start the newly selected movieclip?

They do not have to be on the same layer, but they should not
exist on the timeline for the entire movie, just where they are
    necessary.
Lets say you have three movieclips ten frames apart on the
timeline. Mc1 (movieclip1) is on frame 1, Mc2 is on frame 11, and
Mc3 is on frame 21. Mc1 should only be on the timeline from frame
1-10, then it should not exist on frame 11. This way if you jump to
frame 11 only Mc2 will play, because Mc1 isn't on the timeline
    anymore.
They do not have to be on the same layer.
It may help if you email me the file. My address is on my

  • Please help with audio and video not syncing.

I'm using Encore 3, and have already authored a DVD a month ago without a glitch. The following are the same steps I used, but this time around, the video and audio in Encore are not syncing.
    Here's what I've done.
    1) I export my Final Cut projects to .mov using the following settings (Share > Master File).
    Format: Video and Audio
    Video codec: H.264
    Resolution: 1920x1080
Audio file format: Quicktime Movie (AAC)
    Include chapter markers: Unchecked
    Roles as: Quicktime Movie
    2) I run the .mov file in Compressor using the "Disc Burning" preset.
    3) I then import the .ac3 and .m2v files that Compressor created into Encore.
    4) In Encore, I select both files and go to New > Timeline.
In the Timeline window, the durations on both are the same. But I don't understand why the audio and video are not synced when I preview or when I burn a test DVD. The audio comes in just a tad late.
    Video Clip:
    Source In: 00;00;00;00
    Duration: 00;02;33;29
    In-Point: 00;00;00;00
    Out-Point: 00;02;33;29
    Audio Clip:
    Source In: 00;00;00;00
    Duration: 00;02;34;00
    In-Point: 00;00;00;00
    Out-Point: 00;02;34;00
What's puzzling is that two of the 10 videos I've import to Encore are synced perfectly -- same export settings from FCP, same settings Compressor.
    Please help.
    Thanks!
    Mark

    Hi Mark.
Do you have any situations where there is more than one video file in a timeline?
Secondly - why are you using H264 HD files for a DVD? This is using lossy compression to make the H264, which is in turn then scaled & even further bitrate reduced for M2V.
I would give it a try rendering an SD video file for use in Encore - not the H264 - and starting out with Dolby Digital or LPCM audio, not AAC.
As with all DVD authoring programs, Encore works best with DVD compliant assets - which you are most definitely using - but I still think you are over-complicating things by using H264/AAC at all.
    Eliminating this may help.

  • Need help with audio trimming...

So I'm working on a new project and was wondering if this was possible in iMovie08.
I have edited some video clips (not long, and now in my project area), and want to use different songs from my iTunes library instead of the iMovie sound effects. The movie is about 3 minutes long, but I wanted to use 3 different parts of different songs from iTunes to use as background music. I'm having trouble doing this, as it seems like I have to use the entire song throughout the full movie... How can I trim iTunes song and use it in iMovie08? I could'nt even trim the sound effects...
I also tried Garageband, but I have absolutely no knowledge in using Garageband... I know I'm wrong, but I couldn't even get any iTunes songs to open in Garageband for trimming...
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

In turn. pin each audio clip to the video clip and not the background. Set its in and pout points for the segment of audio you want and then slide the clip segment in the exact position/location you want it.

With GarageBand, simply drag and drop each clip to the main window to add each as an individual track. Select the audio track you wish to work on and move the "playhead" to find the "in" or 'out" point you wish to set. When in position, select the "Split" option in the Edit menu to split the selected audio track. Remove the unwanted segments and slide the content you wish to keep to the position/location you want it to play in relation to the video track. Select and repeat this same process for each of your other audio tracks.

  • Need help with audio transfer!

I'm having problems with audio in idvd. The problem is with clips that were pasted into an imovie project from a different imovie project. The idvd preview seemed fine, but when I burned my disk, the audio associated with the pasted clips was inaudible. The same problem occurred with clips that I had "shared" as a quicktime movie and then imported into idvd. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm a total amateur!

Got SoundTrack Pro? It will perform miracles with getting rid of unwanted sound. It's a matter of isolalating a few frames of the sound where no one is talking, and then using a simple command to remove that sound by itself from the entire audio track.
There is a possibilty that the Hum remover in FCP 4.5 might help...

  • Unable to remain authorized with audio clips

I have made movies before and this is the first time that I have ever had a problem with iMovie. When I go to place an audio clip from iTunes onto my movie, a window pops up stating that "This computer is not authorized to play this content." The two buttons on the window available are "open iTunes" and "cancel." When I open iTunes, it asks me to authorize my computer with the apple id and password. When I do so, it tells me that "This computer has already been authorized." However, when I go back to iMovie it does the same thing all over again. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I'm having the exact same problem. I've made many many iMovies and never had a problem but suddenly today I cannot add songs to my iMovie from my iTunes library. I've tried all of the suggestions regarding authorization and such. I suspect it was an error that occurred after the last update. Hope it gets resolved soon. I'm not keen on the idea of having to burn the desired song to a cd and redownloading it into iTunes. That seems sooooo, I don't know....Microsoftish.....

  • Help with Audio Device Playback

Hoping someone out there can help. Before I updated to iTunes 7, I played back all of my iTunes music through some studio monitors connected to a Digidesign Mbox audio interface. Since upgrading, I cannot get clean audio using this device. When I select "Digidesign Mbox: Chan 1-2" as the default sound playback device in my QuckTime preferences, playing a song in iTunes gives me a garbled sound--almost sounds like a CD that's skipping. Can anybody help with a solution? I hate having to listen to my tunes through two tiny cheap computer speakers!
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

I have the same problem. I get the garbled "Skipping" sound when I use the new version of iTunes. The only way I have to get around it is an old version of iTunes 6 I have saved - it has the same version of Quick Time Attached that was good (then) and should work with the WaveDriver. I have an MBOX 2 and it sounds GREAT.
It really is bad that Apple has this "New, Great" iTunes but it won't work with the existing hardware. I can go from my Sound Card out to my Monitors, but the sound quality is bad. And it is so much easier to just use the MBOX volume adjuster - it is very handy.
Apple, please fix this problem. I want to download DRM free music but iTunes 7.2 does not work with MBOX 2.

  • Help with Audio Playback While Recording

I am an aspiring sound engineer and I am having a problem with recording in Audition 3.0 that I need help with. When i record vocals, the sound wave plays back in the speakers/headphones with like a 1.5 second delay after it is recorded. It really throws off the artists I am working with when they are trying to record vocals. How do i kill headphone/speaker playback while someone is recording?

There are problems with a lot of internal soundcards in a lot of laptops, and these seem to be so many and various that all you can do is use trial and error and hope for the best.
External soundcards should cure any problem, but you may have to look into what else is running on the laptop, as so much is integrated, and some machines seem to have audio problems caused by wireless or other network adaptors etc.
As I said, I use oldish Edirol and Tascam usb units. The Tascam has a known fault (noise when using a guitar channel at the same time as phantom powering a mic on the other channel) which I can live with, and I would hope has been solved in later and current versions. The Edirol is fine. I use 2 units to give me the connections I want (ie one has jacks, the other phono plugs, and different size headphone sockets). Both these have asio and wdm drivers and work fine with AA 3.0 here. More modern devices will be usb2 and will presumably provide more channels or higher sampling rates, but these are fine. Others will be more up to date than me, but I would think anything from Tascam, Edirol, Echo Audio and I think most m-audio models should be fine. Just be wary of anything from Creative Labs. I, too, have had bad experiences with one of their products (it drew too much current from the usb port on a couple of the laptops so I never got as far as to find whether it had asio drivers working or not). But others will be more up to date than I am.
I just went onto ebay over the years and kept bidding on sensible looking devices until I got ones at the right price, but it probably is better to buy new if you can afford it.
Sorry I can't give a more definite answer.

  • Need help with audio...

    Hi,
I need some help with an audio issue...a deep, buzzing sound which is so dominant, i can barely hear the rest
    the situation:
older VHS tape (about 10 years) - i know some of you just cringed the video quality isn't the greatest, but not the worst. the audio is terrible.
transferred with my canopus av300 to my mac (g4 d1.25) - no issues
    using FCP 4.5
i tried the AUGraphicEQ and since it was so deep, i reduced the following to 0:
    800
    6300
    8000
reducing anything else doesn't seem to work
i've also tried cleaning in soundsoap both before using the AUGraphicEQ and after. If i clean it with SSoap before AUGraphicEQ, it sounds far better than the original track, but a low buzz is still present. using the EQ again doesn't seem to do much.
the camerawork was done on a tripod about 30 yds back. no mikes were used either. just the camera capturing both a/v.
Any thoughts on anything else to try? Any other filters? I fear the buzz is just with the main sound and no chance of completely killing it.
I can email someone a small sample file for them to play with if you like.
i'm really at my wits end b/c i would like to ensure i give the client as best i can (the other option would be to send the tape to a colleague's audio expert, but the price is something my client doesn't want to pay
    Cheers,
    Keebler

  • Help with merged clip decision for a short film

Greetings and thanks in advance for any perspective you can offer.
I've begun to edit a short film (10 minutes) that has 3 hours of dailies.  The clips are all merged clips, created with dual system audio and synced with Plural Eyes 3.
However, before setting to what's sure to be months of work, I wonder if there was a better workflow.  Bear with me.  To begin with, marker comments do not stick with merged clips.  As soon as you select another clip - poof!  They're gone.  And there are other limitations that may or may not affect me down the road.  I guess I'm saying I'm not completely sure what I might want or need to do at some point, but I'm concerned that I'll be limited for using merged clips.
I've realized I can use Plural Eyes to merge my clips and audio fully outside of Premiere CC.  Those clips, once imported, retain marker comments and suffer no other "unique" limitations.
It will be a massive undertaking to resync, re-import, and retag and organize everything - but perhaps in the long haul this is prudent?  Or not?
I'm cutting with Prores 422 at full size 4K, so replacing media isn't a concern.  Anything else I should be worried about?  There's always a chance I'll use a 3rd party to color-correct with a DaVinci.
    Thanks again.

I shoot for about -6dB, with no peaks above 0dB.
Sounds like you have a very weak signal. I'd set away from PrPro and handle this in SB, or Audition. Listen carefully with a good pair of noise-canceling headphones first, and then test on monitors.
Are you working in mono, stereo or 5.1 SS?
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Need help with Audio controller or cue points

Haven't set up the actual project yet. Just trying to
determine best method. Will be using Flash Pro 8.
Goal: create an initial page showing a TOC that represents
chapters in an hour long audio piece. Clicking a topic brings them
to a certain point in the audio. Once leaving the TOC, the user
will see a still PPT jpg associated with that section of audio. But
they'll also need access to an audio controller so they can scrub
to different portions of the audio. Once they let up, the PPT image
needs to change -- if they went to a different section.
So at first I thought about a regular flash set-up with the
audio spanned throughout the timeline, PPT images set-up throughout
the timeline, and frame labels to jump to. But I couldn't figure
out how to set up an audio controller with this set-up.
Then I thought about a Flash Slide Presentation set-up using
a Media Playback component with the Media Controller component and
cue points. I've looked at some of the on-line examples of this and
they seem to work when playing forward but I notice that when you
scrub backwards that the images fall out of synch. It seems if you
have cues A, B and C and if you begin dragging from the C cue and
let up BEFORE the B cue the image displays B. It should be
    displaying A though since your somewhere in-between A and B. But A
doesn't show unless you scrub back far enough to cross the A cue
    time.
So what is the best method. It seems the latter if there was
only a way to calculate the time between the two cues. For instance
"if time is >A but <B then display A".
But the first example with the long timeline and frame labels
would be fine if there was a nice controller out there that I could
    implement.
And remember I need to be able to jump to any spot in the
audio clip from the TOC menu on the first screen.
    Thanks!

Is it AVCHD, Mini-DV, or DVD?  What format does the camera record to?

  • Please help with audio problems, thanks!

Hi, I'm relatively new to DVD studio Pro and so far the manual has been useful but i've run into some sound related problems. I'm a composer/sound designer and this DVD is to be my reel so these are fairly integral issues to its success.
First, I want to add a sound effect to each of the roll over states, so one sound for the "over" and one sound for the "down" state. Currently i can only add audio as the backing track for each menu.
Second, whilst most of the items on the dvd are movies that include my music, I also want to have a page purely of audio tracks which play when pressed without changing the page. How can i do this? The only DVD i've seen this done on is "The Thin Red Line" extras, promoting the soundtrack to the film.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum/discussions CC!
Sorry to have to inform you, but unfortunately layered menus aren't supporterd with audio in DVDSP, and technically what you're attempting is a layered menu-type function - although it just may be possible with scripts, I doubt it.
Your second request can be done however and there's several ways to go about doing it.
I like DVD@ccess but others would recommend a method of simply placing the audio files in the built file of the DVD making them accessible to users.
Another method I could suggest is to make a menu page exactly like the one you want to look the same and have the song you'd like to play as the music track for that duplicated-menu in question - set the target of the link for the song in the menu to go to the menu that has that song as the music track. Repeat that for the number of songs you'd like to have this feature.
