Help with badges for mail app

I have a badge on my mail application that says I have a new email. I've been through my mail numerous times to mark all of the msgs as read, but this badge refuses to go away. How do I get rid of this without disabling mail badges completely?

It's hard to believe that deleting a rule could have a bearing on the ability to receive messages from any account... unless that rule did something that prevented subsequent rules to process the messages that you apparently can't receive now.
That is, either having deleted the rule has absolutely no bearing on your problem, or the problem is that those messages are now being processed in an unexpected way by some of your other rules.
What type of accounts are these (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? What does "I cant receive mail in 4 of 8 accounts" mean?

  • Help with iPhone sync/mail app. crashing

Hey all, I've now spent the better of 3days on the forums and have tried several approaches. Here's the problem: During syncing all is fine until iTunes starts to sync my mail (.Mac), at which point it freezes and an error message appears stating: that "iTunes could not sync mail accounts to the iPhone because the iPhone canceled the sync". Furthermore, the Mail app on the phone keeps crashing. The screen appears and starts to load my emails and once complete the screen goes black and returns me to the home page. Now, I did try the trick of deleting the AppleMobileDeviceHelper.app and was able to successfully sync the mail, however, the app still crashes on my phone. And when I put the AppleMobileDeviceHelper.app back in the folder, and try to sync, of course it freezes during the backup of the mail syncing. Help, help, my girlfriend is sick of me and this phone, I'm a bit wigged out at this point.
Thanks in advance to any takers.

You can do either/or. I would go with a backup since it has your contact info, email, etc. If you go from new, you will have to setup everything again.

  • Help with re-installing mail app

Will I lose mail messages if I delete and re-install the apple mail app?    It appears to be operating erratically and I think this may help.
also, my computer appears not to be fixable via utillity disk and recovery HD.. so this may also be the problem.

If you are using Windows Mahcine then go to control panel and uninstall the lightroom properly from there.
If you are using MAC then go to /Applications/Utilities/Adobe installers and find the uninstaller of lightroom and double click the same to uninstall.
If still you are not able to uninstall the application completly then use CS cleaner tool to uninstall the software. you can download CS cleaner tool from : http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html

  • How to get help with refund for in app purchase

I downloaded the free app "Bakery Story" without realizing it was an app that allowed the user (in this case, my child) to run up a bill very quickly with in-app purchases (using my real money instead of the play money within the game). As soon as I received the statement from Apple about these unexpected purchases, I enabled the parental controls that block purchases from within apps like this. I am trying to use Apple website to find the rightbplace to request a refund on those purchases, but I only get so far with the express lane before I get a "server not responding" message. Any ideas for how to get help? (clicking the Report a Problem" link in the invoice email doesn't work either (and my WI fi Internet connection seems fine).

  • Help a newb with setting up Mail.app

Im trying to set up my Mail app with my email account hosted with my shared hosting service.
Ive used mail.app before...but i seem to be running into some issues.
Ive used mail.app with .mac and mobileme email addresses and they functioned properly,my issue is that using the [email protected] doesnt seem to work so smoothly.
For example when i send a message in Mail.app it stores it only in the Mail folder in Mail but in a new folder in webmail called Sent Messages.
I use IMAP for Mail.app and with my iPod Touch (which uses the same EMAIL Address).
When i send messages using the ipod touch i dont get the excess mailboxes and the sent messages/deleted messages etc get routed to the properly mailbox in the ipod touch and Webmail.
These are the extra mailboxes i get when using Mail.app
They show up in both Mail.app and my Webmail.
SOO my question is; How do i properly set it up so i only have these mailboxes:
    INBOX
    SENT
    DRAFTS
    TRASH
and that they all tie to gether?
for example; send a message in Mail.app it goes into the Sent folder on both Mail.app and Webmail instead of a bogus Sent Mail folder automatically created.
    Any advice please????

From Apple's web page on Exchange with Snow Leopard:
    Infrastructure requirements
    • Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1.
    • Exchange Web Services (EWS) must be enabled. EWS is on by default in Exchange 2007.
    • Exchange AutoDiscover must be turned on for automatic setup.
    • Snow Leopard uses SSL over port 443 to connect to EWS.

Have you considered the possibility that the third party fan software might itself be implicated in the issue, theosib (or perhaps something else introduced at about that time?).
My inclination in a situation like this would be to back up your drive to an external, wipe the drive, and do a clean installation. At the very least I'd try an archive and install.
Do you have plenty of free space on the drive? Once you get things down below the last 10 to 20% things can get hairy at times, and may not be fixed as a result of simply freeing up some room, as free space fragmentation is likely to have set in.
As far as RAM goes, either "Rember" - http://www.kelleycomputing.net:16080/rember/ or, better still, but less user friendly, "memtest" - http://www.memtestosx.org/ does a much better job of checking your RAM than the AHT. Still takes a while to run for a thorough test, but much quicker than the approach you are planning on using.
You might also want to use "Activity Monitor" to check for any applications with progressive "memory leaks" or that are acting as CPU hogs, given your symptoms

  • Is there any downside mixing Objective-C with C++ for iOS apps?

I'd like to use C++ since it's fast and more dynamically in memory reference.
Is there any downside mixing Objective-C with C++ for iOS apps?
When googled for info, I only found tutorials about how to let xcode compile Objective-C with C++.
    Thanks for help.

Both Objective-C and C++ are (more or less) extensions of C.
C supports manipulation of pointers and casting of pointers, this implies that both Objective-C and C++ will be able to manipulate C data like arrays, structs ...
Objective-C has classes like NSData to read/write blocks of bytes from/to file and to access ranges of bytes when the data is loaded into memory.
C++ probably has similar classes (I'm not well versed in C++ so I don't know).
If you want to look into using C++ you will probably want to look at Objective-C++, the link below has links to docs on how to use C++ with Objective-C:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3684112/what-is-objective-c
Thanks for the info, NSData does what I need.
A replied in the link also mentioned that he's using C++ in his application too. As long as I'm aware of memory management (prevent memory leaks, etc) as @disguise said, it should be fine.
@etresoft indeed, but C is the base language of ObjC, there are ways to deal with.

  • How to enable logging for mail.app in Mountain Lion

I am at my wits end trying to figure this out....
Does anyone have a clue how to enable the logging for mail.app under Mountain Lion?
In the past, you could open up Console and click on Console.log and see the logging of mail. Under mountain Lion, there is no more console.log. I cannot figure out how to enable it.
I have tried to run the AppleScript of "Turn On Logging" but the script errors out under Mountain Lion.
Does anyone know how to do this or a better way, maybe a tool or something that can help you troubleshoot mail.app issues?
    Thanks in advanced

    Hello,
I have a similar problem. The script "Turn on Logging.scpt" runs without error, but I do not see any socket logging. I only get two messages, which I also get when I start mail without the script by just clicking the mail.app icon in the dock. The Messages are:
    1/10/13 3:43:32.618 PM Mail[11276]: Using V2 Layout
1/10/13 3:43:36.388 PM Mail[11276]: *** -[IADomainCache init]: IA domains cache is out of date.
    Any help would be appreciated

  • How to find add-ons for mail.app

    D'oh!
Am I missing something incredibly obvious about App Store?
I want to find all add-ons -- worktogethers for mail.app.  How?
Example:   I found a product called MessageFont which may have a similar function to the one I am seeking.  Its web page is marked "Available on App Store". Sure, I can find Messagefont on App Store, either by overall search, or alphabetical arrangement of Productivity Apps.    So, I guess that the app I'm seeking MIGHT also be in this category.  But there are currently 3065 other apps in that category.   Does the Search box at upper left apply to the currently visible selection?  Maybe, sort of.  But searching for "mail.app" or "mail" don't seem to do what I want.  Searching for "apple mail" returns only 7 hits, including my example, MessageFont, but the hits also include OS X Server, and b) It seems unlikely there are only 5 additional add-ons -- worktogethers for mail.app.
Bonus question:  What I'm looking for is a utility that makes it easier to reply to formatted email messages in mail.app, by making visible --and prefereably, supporting removal of-- block structures.   It seems that block structures (e.g. blockquotes, perhaps others) interfere with opening vertical space into which  interspersed reply text can be entered.
    TIA

To what are you referring when you ask about "add-ons to Premiere 13" (assumed you mean Adobe Premiere Element 13)? On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running?
Premiere Elements has not come with a Content Disc or offered Content download from an Adobe web site since Premiere Elements 10.
If "add-ons" to you mean Content download...DVD Templates, Movie Themes, Clip Art, etc....then most of that is going to come from downloading
Content from within the opened project. There is a limited amount of content that comes complete as part of the installation.
A description of this process is fully described

  • Sobriety check for Mail.app

    Hi everyone,
I've been asked at work if it is possible to add this functionality to Mail.app, in a similar vein to what Gmail has recently added to their service.
In a nutshell, what I need to create is an alert dialog that pops up when a user clicks the send button in Mail that allows them to confirm they want the message to be sent. It's not really a sobriety check (at least I hope not) but really a chance for an employee to avoid mistakes in their email message before it goes out.
At this point I'd just like to know if it's feasible before I go down this route and if anyone has any advice for an AS noob looking to do this. Bonus points if you know whether it's possible to add a modifier to the Send button to bypass the script.
    Thanks much!

Not directly - at least not via AppleScript.
Mail.app supports AppleScripts for scanning incoming mail messages. There is no support for AppleScript on outgoing messages.
It is possible to write Mail.app plugins, but they're not well documented (search for 'Mail.app plugin' for an idea) and requires an understanding of Objective-C.
The last option I can think of is to not use Mail.app's automatic send/receive. Instead using a stay-open AppleScript to periodically get mail and check for messages in the outbox. If it finds any it posts the question then sends the message(s). The problem with this approach, though, is that it's far from foolproof (the user can send the message manually by enabling automatic mail sending).

  • Using Gmail Aliases with iOS 8 Mail App

I'm wondering if there is any way to use gmail aliases with the default mail app. I've already tried the methods listed on these two sites:
    http://www.nathanpjones.com/wp/2014/01/using-gmail-aliases-in-ios-7/
    http://tbb.co/sending-from-a-gmail-alias-on-ios-8/
I can already send from a few different aliases with the default mail app on Mac. I have two step authentication setup on on my gmail account so I've these methods with both my normal password and app specific passwords generated by Google. Is there something that I'm missing?

Seems to work properly for me. Are we looking at the same place? to instruct it to Delete instead of Archive:
In Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > (select account) > Account (select your e-mail address) > Advanced.
Mailbox Behavior for Deleted Mailbox: Trash.
        then
Move Discarded Messages Into: Deleted Mailbox.
It wasn't this way by default.  Move Discarded was Archive, and it gave the results you described.  Changing that to Deleted works for me.
I set the Swipe left-to-right to Archive.  So now one swipe will Archive, the other will Delete.
oooh... p.s.... this seems to work as well:

  • PGP for Mail.app?

Alright, I've been loooking for a while and I can't seem to find a good encryption solution for Mail.app
Apple's Mail help file mentions something vague about how mail does support pgp if the enctyption is hidden in they keychain, but mentions no way of doing this. Is there some easy way of implementing pgp in mail that I'm missing? The best solution Google easily offers is GPGMail (http://www.sente.ch/software/GPGMail/English.lproj/GPGMail.html), but that seems slightly sketchy and I'd like to do encryption the Apple Way™ (if there is a way, that is)
Black MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2.0 GHz 1g ram

There's no reason not to use the GPGMail plugin for Mac OS X; it's been around for years and it works; nothing "sketchy" about it. You will also need to download and install the GNU Privacy Guard (a.k.a. MacGPG) to make it encrypt and decrypt messages.
Or, you could get a free personal email certificate to sign and encrypt your mail, but it will expire after 1 year and then you'd have to get a new one. If that's the method you prefer, check this link for instructions. Go directly to the link where it says Thawte: Personal Email Certificates and start reading.

  • Am I too fast for Mail.app?

    *Simplified version*: http://trials.sent.com/problem.jpg
    *Detailed version:*
So here I am composing away in Mail.app. I suddenly decide that I need to select a prior portion of my typed text and replace it with another phrase.
So I select the text, and I start typing my replacement phrase without pressing delete. This used to work fine, and the portion that I wanted replaced would get replaced with the new intended phrase.
The problem? After I select a prior portion of the typed text, and press delete (or start typing with my replacement), I'm now seeing additional words (those that were present right after the deleted words) automatically selected by Mail.app.
This is bad, because if I'm typing away, I've already lost unintended words. Am I too fast for Mail.app? Should I slow down?
Is this just me? I've had this problem for over almost a year now (with my old macbook), and new macbook pro.

This exact problem has happened to me on my Late 2008 MBP a number of times.
After I select something, I delete it (cut it, type another letter, whatever) and the text is moved appropriately, but the selected area remains. So upon the next keystroke the next few words are also deleted.
It seems to be some sort of bug. I'm not sure if its related to the trackpad, or what. I haven't made much effort to isolate and fix the problem either. Perhaps we should both submit feedback to Apple about this. Your illustration depicts the problem perfectly. Would you mind if I link to it when I send in feedback?
One more thing: It's not limited to Mail.app on my machine. I get it in Pages and TextEdit as well, for sure. Perhaps it is limited to Cocoa applications; I'm not sure if I've ever got it in Word or Appleworks.
