Help with Black Screen?

My iPhone 4 froze and went completely black. The phone will still ring but the screen remains black. I tried plugging it in to the USB and turning it on, but there was no luck!

Try resetting the PRAM to prevent it going into open firmware.

If that is successful you can then install another OS. Your option are limited to Linux PPC or Mac OS X

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • Macbook pro-Freezes with black screen at start up.

Macbook pro-Freezes with black screen at start up. I've tried inserting the Mac OS X install disc to run the hardware test(Restart and hold down D), But it still does nothing. Just the black screen. Now I can't get the disc out. I've tried holding down the track pad key upon start up but that doesn't work neither.
What do I do??? Please help.

Remove the battery to find your serial number in the battery bay. Then you can look your MBP up on EveryMac.com:
    http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/
That will give you all the information on your Mac.
This is assuming that you have the MBP with the removable battery and not the unibody. The unibody has different graphic chips.
    Good luck!

  • Ipod touch 4G stuck on swirling motion with black screen

So I jailbroke my ipod with absinthe a few days ago and everything has been working fine but today i used an app i downloaded from cydia (cant remember the name) and it started to respring and went on for a long time so restared my ipod and everything but it still came back to the same screen of a swirling motion with black screen after passing the apple logo. I tried restoring the ipod on itunes but an error keeps occuring and it wont allow me to restore. Itunes wont read my ipod either. My ipod will not allow me to do anything. What should I do?

Go elsewhere. Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty. It also means that you will not get any help from Apple, including from this Apple forum.

  • Iphone 4s.  Phone dies with black screen intermittently. In spite of reboot attempts it wont come back for 10-15 minutes later with reboot.  About three times in the last two weeks since IOS6 upgrade.  One time the phone felt pretty warm.

Iphone 4s. My phone dies with Black Screen  intermittently.  It will stay dead in spite of hard reboot requests for 10-15 minutes. Then it will come back. The battery is plenty charged.  This has happened about 3 times since upgrade to IOS6.

You're in luck! Your phone is still covered by the one year Apple warrenty. I would visit your local Apple retail store, or contact Apple over the phone. They should be able to help you out best!

    Check if this helps:
    Restoring the BIOS
If it is blinking 3 times it usually indicates memory issue..So you can try reseating the memory modules or try one memory at a time in each slot..

  • Bootup with Black Screen and No Light from Keyboard

I did an update on my Mac tonight and it rebooted.  My MacBook Air is set up reboot from bootcamp with Windows 7 Professional.  There was the blinking cursor and then the Microsoft loading up green horizontal progress bar.  Then the ready to use music was played but the whole screen went out with keyboard having no light.  It seems that windows was booted up all right but there is a problem with the screen driver or something.  How can I fix this?
I had this problem before when Windows 7 on bootcamp did a recent update about a week ago.  The screen went dark - same problem.  I went into Mac side to run my latest Parallel version.  It booted up Windows & fine but the wimdows was not recognized as genuine.  I called Microsoft and got the key to re-actuvate Windows fine with driver updates.  Then when I rebooted from bootcamp, Winodws 7 came on all right like I had before windows update.
Now I cannot resolve the second time with black screen as the windows 7 was genuine when I open windows 7 with Parallel on Mac side.  I do not know how to fix it now.  Please advise and help.

    Hey Rollino,
Sounds like you're in the "firmware trap" There were a lot a sites about this but this appears to have most of the info/procedures:
    http://www.macintouch.com/panfirmware.html
The main trick is to use an external monitor and reinstall the firmware altho' some of the other tricks might help.
    BTW Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Good luck.

  • 4s bricked after trying new update, stuck with black screen with apple logo how can i fix this

    Update bricked my 4s
phone , stuck with black screen with apple logo ..
    how can I fix this

    Greetings r1042,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your iPhone is not booting up past the Apple logo. In this situation, I would recommend working through the troubleshooting steps located in the attached article.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support
If your device gets stuck during startup
When starting up, you might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time, or your device might restart again. Try these steps:
Make sure that you have iTunes 12 or later on your computer.
Put your device in recovery mode.
When you get the option to restore or update, select Update. This will reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
    Have a great day,
    Joe

  • Working fine just with black screen

    Hi
My MacBook Pro is working with black screen and TV out not working.
I am sure Operating System is working fine.
What do you think the problem from?
Is it from the screen or the Motherboard?

    Hi Sam7ane,
How have you verified that the machine is working fine? Are you able to Target Disk the machine and access the data? Or do you have another Mac to use screen sharing?
If the display on the machine and the video out component are both not working this would typically indicate a logic board (motherboard) problem, versus the screen. It's possible that both are problematic, but from a troubleshooting perspective I'd be inclined to point to the logic board versus the LVDS cable.
Given that it's an original MacBook Pro, or rather that's the form you're in, the machine is out of Apple Care but hopefully you have access to a local repair/service center?

  • Error message 1415 with black screen on my Nano, error message 1415 with black screen on my Nano

Anyone know how to fix this issue?

If you had a Kernel Panic when you navigated to /Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports you would have seen a folder for KP's. You didn't see one therefore no KP which means something else is going on.
If you want to do an erase and install it's not very difficult however before you do make sure you have a viable backup. My recommendation is either a Time Machine backup or even better create a bootable clone using Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner. IMHO it's wise to have redundant backups in the event one fails. Personally I use TM and SD on two separate external HD's.
To answer your question yes you can erase and install from teh orginal OS X Install DVD that came with your computer. If your machine orignally shipped with 10.5.x (Leopard) that is definetley the correct DVD to use. How you do is fairly simple:
With the DVD in the SuperDrive re-boot, when you hear the startup tone hold down the Option key and choose the DVD.
Choose the language then select the Utilities menu and open Disk Utility. In DU select the HD on the left then select the Erase tab, make sure the Format says "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and then click Erase. This will totally wipe everything off your HD!!!!
Next exit Disk Utility and continue with the Install and as mentioned in my first post use the Setup Assistant guide to help you install and restore your data from the backup.
Assuming you don't have a hardware issue your system should work OK. If you still have a black screen you probably have a hardware issue and should take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP to have it professionally diagnosed.

  • Please Help: iMac black screens after startup logo + spinning wheel no cursor).

    Hi, guys.
I'm in a fair bit of a desperate situation; my iMac's screen seems to shut down every time after the white startup screen. The Apple logo appears, & the progress wheel begins spinning, then after a while - when it would usually then go to the gray login screen - it would, instead, go black. I can tell that the machine is still on (I can still hear it clicking as it does during processing) but I'm unable to determine anything else. Nothing is visible on the screen - not even the cursor - it's as if the display had turned off completely. I'm not sure if the login screen sits beneath that black screen (I have tried to log on by typing my login details in blindly, but even if it does log in, it's hard to determine what state the computer is in without seeing the screen.
I have tried the PRAM reset (holding CMD+OPT+P+R) during both the white startup screen, & the black screen to no avail. It seems unresponsive because I don't hear any additional chimes that I've been told should be heard during a PRAM reset attempt. I can't even be sure that the command is being inputted correctly because the light on my wireless keyboard remains off during the process.
I've tried rebooting over & over again; the results are the same.
The steps that led to the problem occurred thusly:
1 - I was trying to clear some memory from my current session, so I scanned through my active processes, quitting anything which seemed to be eating up considerable amounts of memory.
2 - One particular process I quit was 'launchd' which was functioning under my profile username.
3 - After quitting launchd, all opened apps seemed to close, & it looked like I was forcibly logged off the machine. The screen froze during this point, & I decided to do a hard reboot to log back in.
4 - The problem began after this hard reboot; startup seemed to occur as per usual; white screen > apple logo > progress wheel > and then suddenly, a black screen where the login screen should be.
I've shown a flashlight into the screen while it's black & it seems well & truly like the display has shut down while the iMac continues in the background. I have had issues relating to my screen going black before, but they were random & intermittent; they didn't occur without fail during the exact same time immediately after startup, & could be remedied by using the CTRL+OPT+EJT keys.
I am on an iMac 2010, 27", using I believe Lion OSX. I am unable to recall additional specifications while the problem persists.
Could anybody please help me? I'm quite desperate; I was in the middle of some urgent work that I need to get back to as soon as possible.
Thank you I'm advance to anyone with advice on how I can go about fixing this.
    ,c.
