Help with bringing a photo in closer

I know this is something simple, but I can't figure it out. If I take a photo and I just want to zoom in on the face and then save it how do I do that? If I used the zoom tool, it just makes my canvas larger. I just want to take a part of a photo and enlarge it and then crop it. I am using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac. I appreciate the help and sorry this is such an elementary question but I am self taught and need some help.

Simply use the Crop Tool and either set the intended size and resolution the tool’s Option Bar entry fields or after the crop in Image – Image Size.

Need help with cannon RAW photos

Please help- let my employee go and nearly 100 photos of my products were left on my hard drive, but I can not get them to open. They are somehow jacked up (show a different icon than they did). They have no previous version, and absolutely NOTHING I have tried to open them will work. Would someone be willing to test one to see if they can figgure it out? Or, has anyone fixed this problem before?

Help with C6-00 photo update

I need help with updating the items in the photo gallery. Anytime I transfer pictures from PC to the phone using either a USB connection or bluetooth, the items just stay in the memory card. What I mean is that they can only be acessed through file manager and not possible to veiw them using the Photo application. It is as if the Photo application does not automatically update itself. I have tried moving the items from one folder to another, even using the images folder itself. Please, can you tell me what to do about it?
Usually, the same thing happens with Videos too.

The apps wont recognise the photos or videos if file extension is missing.Go to file manager and locate your file.Check whether it contains file extension.If not rename the file with . Jpg extension.If you dont know the type of file, select options >details(it should be something like that) to know it.After renaming all your files in file manager close file manager and open yout photo app.It should show all your photos.Same goes for videos which you will need to rename to .mp4 or .3gp as the case may be.

Help with importing PC photo files and then organizing it all in iPhoto

Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to mac but I am just loving my purchase! I need some serious help with getting all of my photos organized though so I can easily find it for editing in iMovie.
I've accumulated over 10,000 photos stored on my PC which I've since transferred over to my LaCie external drive for my MacBook Pro via a wireless network connecting my PC & Mac. Some of these I've put onto my laptop internal hard drive and those I've imported into the iPhoto library. However, do I need to move the rest of the photos from my LaCie drive into my internal hard drive to import the photos into iPhoto, or can I tell iPhoto to look for the files in the external drive. If so, how do I do that? I know I'll then have to create albums in order to sort them, which I know how to do. Is there any fast way to do it by date? I had it sorted into different file folders by month & year so I could easily find them on my PC and would like to do the same using albums.
I am quickly running out of hard drive space on my laptop which is why I've put most of my photos on the external drive. Once I organize my existing collection, I would like to be able to import new pictures and have it stored on my external drive, not my internal drive. How do I do that?
Any other tips on organizing a massive photo library would be greatly appreciated.

This is where you get to enjoy the power of iPhoto's database. You can change the Sort in the View menu. Check out View > Sort Photos > by Date.
Or, click the little calendar icon near the lower left corner of the iPhoto window. This allows you to filter the library by year, month, week, or date. You can Command-click to add another date to your filter. You can Option-click to choose a recurring date: you get that month or date for all years in your library. [Want to see your kid's birthday for every year? Just Option-Click that date. Cool.]
The keywords filter is similar. There is a preference setting where you choose to filter based on ALL keywords chosen (where by choosing more keywords you narrow your field) or ANY keyword (where the more keywords you choose, the larger your field will be). Click on a keyword to filter your library by all photos containing that keyword. Use Command-click to add more keywords to the filter. A difference is that Option-click will eliminate photos with that keyword from your filter. [You can find all pictures of your kids with your dog but NOT at Halloween.]
You can create Smart Albums to combine the use of dates, keywords, ratings, titles, comments and more. The more information you enter into the database, the more powerful the tools become.
When your task of importing is complete and you are ready to play with iPhoto's features it may help to look at the iPhoto multimedia tutorial. Better organized than trying to read through the Help files, it can help you get acquainted with many of iPhoto's features.

I'm admittedly not the greatest with Photoshop, but I'm definitely an excellent photographer. Is there anything that Photoshop can offer in terms of making my wildlife photos look more 'life-like' for when I enter these photos into a wildlife photo contest? Any help is appreciated.

You are only allowed minimal adjustments in every Natural History competition I have ever heard of. Brightness and contrast sort of thing, and maybe - at a stretch - tone down distraction elements. But competions bring out the worst in some people, and I know a few who cheat.

Need help with easy script for open / close app and move files

I'm not a scripter.. never done anything special perhaps more complicated than /shutdown -s on cmd..
I actually learned ASCII C language on university but never used it in real.
I'm trying to create a basic script that perhaps you could help me or guide me how to do it..
The commands are
1) Close a running app (end task it or force kill it, I prefer end task it)
2) delete files from x location
3) run .exe app from y location
4) close that running app
5) move files from z to y
Perhaps adding few "wait few seconds" commands in between each, so the apps will launch successfully..
My first question will be whats the easiest script language to do that?
I tried VBScript but couldn't find commands for open or close apps.. also for controlling files..
And what commands can do that? I could google them up for better understanding no need for rough guide
And lastly, does it too hard? If it takes more than hour to make it (learn and process) than it ain't worth it..

hmm 2 questions:
1) taskkill.exe causing me access deny error.. I used "taskkill.exe /IM softwarename.exe"
how do I get permission or something to fix that?
2) on the "move" command..
First, its a "copy" instead.. but I easily figured that out..
but more important is that I want to copy a folder.. with unknown list of way too long files and sub folders..
and all I see is ability to move a file..
Is this possible?

Need help with backed up photos-now cannot view..?

Using iphoto 6, super duper, seagate external hd. Drive has already been set-up and backed up several times-been working well........until.......
Last night, I saw that out of 120gb I have about 5gb left on my G4.!
"decided" to back-up iphotos and "delete" some on my G4 to reserve more space.
Now, if I go to the external and click on pictures folder, I can see all of my originals folders (2002-2008), but when I open iphoto, they are not in iphoto.?
On my G4, it's the same thing, but worse! When I tried to delete my photos, I was holding the apple key and selecting multiple items, then dragging them to the trash.......I'm sure you have done this yourself before, but It drug them a little, then them "dropped" into other places in the same folder-NOT the trash! They are in all different places in the pictures folder, and not in the same places they used to be......!!!
I've read about "re-constructing" the library. Will this work? I do not want to do any more damage. They are there-I know it!
So, I drug the entire library of "originals" back into iphoto, but ALMOST all of the way through (got down to 100 out of 8,000 photos) and got a message that says "an error occured while trying to save your iphoto library. Make sure you have enough hard disk space and that iphoto is able to access the iphoto library folder."
I look at my hd space, and I have about 500mb left....?
What does this mean? I THINK I don't have enough hd space to do it now. What the **** should I do? Getting a little frustrated at this point. I am off tomorrow and want to get it fixed up.
8,000 of my childrens photos is nothing to "play" with. I can't believe I was so stupid with these. These mean the world to me, and I'm pretty sure they are still there. I've accidentally put photos into starting points and can't remove them. It looks as if it's a painting document because they have pt after them.

Dear Peggy, Thanks for the reply. I did as you said and when I open starting points I get a new column with assistants, backgrounds, banners and templates.Templates gives me the list of templates plus a whole lot of other stuff I've done which is probably in the wrong place. Recent items where the photos are shows only one clip.
When I open the program and go to recent items they show but I can't select them. It took me a long time to find your reply and I guess there is an easy way to do it. Could you add that to your help list please?

I need help with my GUI Photo Album.

Hello! I'm still learning bits about GUI and I need some assistance to make my basic program work. So I understand that you originally thought incrementing (i) would somehow update (icon) since it uses (i) in an expression. But now you hopefully know this is not a magical expression language.
I bet you would have also thought that this:
int x = 1;
int y = 2;
int z = x + y;
x = 42;
y = 58;would have ended up with z having the value 100? It doesn't. It did the math once, when it executed the expression (x + y) and stored it in the variable (z). So z == 3, regardless of what happens to x or y after the fact.

Help with saving a photo

How can I save a photo as 1920X1920 pixels when the photo isn't square? This photo must be saved as baseline standard JPEG. File size must be < 1.8 mb. Color space should be saved in RGB color space preferablySRGB

Set the color profile first: Image -> Convert Color Profile -> Covert to sRGB
In order to save with those dimensions, the image must be cropped first. However, the crop tool uses inches or cm instead of straight pixels. To get the desired size: Go to Image -> Resize -> Image Size, enter 1920 as one of the pixel dimensions and note the resulting inch/cm measurement. Cancel this screen and click on the crop tool. The aspect ratio should be set to 'Custom', enter the inch equivalent of 1920 pixels for both the width and the height and crop the image with a resolution of 72 pixels/inch.
Save the file: File -> Save For Web... (because this will give you the smallest file sizes) On the right, make sure the file type is set to JPEG (the default is GIF) and reset the pixel dimensions to 1920 and hit apply (it automatically adjusts the sizes for website which usually require dimensions under 1000). The file size displays under the preview along with approximate load times. Click okay and save the file where you want it.
It would probably be helpful to read up on how to set your workspace to default to sRGB in order to save time if you're doing this a lot.

Help with importing huge photo collection

my brther switched to Mac and want to use iPhoto. His pohoto collection is about 40GB and many, many folders and subfolders. The structure of the folders and subfolders are like this example:
-X-mas     ->2009
               ->2010
               ->2011
Moto-trip ->Germany 2008 -> My photos
                                        -> Toms photos
                                        -> Mikes photos
               ->Switzerland 2009     -> My photos
                                                -> Brothers photos
etc...
Is there some possibility (maybe some script or 3rd app) of how to import all this pictures and for example automaticaly create Albums with subfolders in iPhoto?
Importing each subfolder would take days...
Any idea?
P.S.: He uses Mountain Lion and the latest iPhoto.

The structure you outline here is one for Files and not Photos. Using that structure in iPhoto is a bit pointless as it remains as limited in iPhoto as it is in the Finder.
iPhoto offers much more varied organisational opportunities, leveraging data that the file browser doesn't even know about - such as Exif and IPTC.
For Instance: anything date-based is done automatically based on the date and time of the Exif metadata in the Photos. So, Events are made this way, automatically. You can search by date using Smart Albums or the Calendar search in the search box: Therefore can easily find all the photos from any specific day, month, year, or in any time range using one of these tools.
If, in the example above, Tom and Mike have different cameras, then again you can sort these from each others with a simple Smart Album.
Next: Albums hold Photos. There is no such thing as a subfolder in Albums. You can have Folders. They can contain Albums nested Folders, which can also contain Albums.
As for importing folder tree: there's some stuff here that might help

Help with layout of photo thumbnails

Is there anyway to change the layout of the thumbnails on photo pages created in iWeb? I know how to change the distance between photos, how many rows, etc., but is there a way to change the display? Perhaps a larger photo with tiny thumbnails beside that? I don't like how all the thumbnails are displayed on the page, and then you have to hit "play slideshow" to view them. Many thanks in advance.

The only way that I know of to increase the size of the thumbnails is to reduce the number of columns and the spacing between them. The largest thumbnail is obtained by 1 column. If you double click on a thumbnail you will bring up a larger version of the photo with a thumbnail tray of the others on the top llike in this example. You don't have to enter the slideshow mode.

Can I Get Help With This Perfect Photos Workflow?

I've switched over to Photos.
Set up iCloud photo library and seem to be forever uploading... After just over a week I'm still at 12k+ photos remaining to upload of around 18k total. At this rate I have over a month to wait for everything to complete!
The downside of this seems to be that photos taken on my iPhone - simply are not syncing to my Mac via the Photos App. The last iPhone photos are from April 8, since then I have taken around 40/50 more photos. On my phone they show as being uploaded, but nothing on my Mac.
On top of this issue, is it possible to cherry pick which albums etc I upload from my Mac to iCloud Photo Library?
Also, can I stop the upload of every single photo I have but still use iCloud to sync my iPhone photos back to my mac? The Photostream button is checked, but like I say photo syncing seems to have stopped in early April.
Finally, I have optimise storage checked on my iPhone for the photos that are being synced - yet each time I look at a photo is downloads the full res version. Is this the normal behaviour? I would have thought it simply created a smaller file size with a little less detail etc?! It's not really optimising storage if when I look at a synced album it then downloads every image...
Any help or guidance on how to set all this up correctly would be much appreciated!

I have the exact same "issue." I have 8000 more photos to upload to iCloud. My iPhone, iPad, and iCloud (on the website) sync perfectly. However, nothing I take with my iPhone or iPad, after I switched to Photos, goes to my Mac. I'm guessing that once my entire library (previously iPhoto) goes up to iCloud, then it'll add those newer photos as well. I think uploading old photos has a priority over adding newer photos recently taken.
I did a test and tried to make a new, separate Photos library and used it as the System Photo Library but did NOT import all my old iPhoto items, and the Mac synced perfectly. So let's see what happens after the uploading of everything from our old iPhoto library.
