Help with broken earbuds

Ive had my ipod mini for about 17 months, and im not under warrenty. On my ear buds, the wire detached from the base of the earbud. Do you think Apple will replace this if i go to the store or send in a request? Or should I just buy new ones myself? Thanks for your help

"Do you think Apple will replace this if i go to the store or send in a request?"
Apple won't replace them if the headphones are out of warranty. You'll need to buy some more.

  • Help with broken? macbook. Boot commands dont work.

I have an old macbook that is from late 2008 and is kinda old. First time it did 3 beeps (ram error) So i exchanged the ram and now it starts. But i get stuck at greyscreen, and sometimes at a flashing folder with a Question mark.
I did try to go through the community here but i cant use any of the commands people are recommending..
    Command + Alt + R dont work
    Alt during boot dont work.
Command + alt wont work... No commands do anything except leaving a blank screen and a cursor.
If i dont hold any keys during boot i eventually get the flashing questionmark folder.
    Any suggestions?
Can i reinstall it from a USB and how do i do it if i cant use the bootup commands? :S
(The keyboard seems to work so that cant be the issue)
    Thanks.

i dont know what the existing OS is.
Cannot help with troubleshooting since you do not know which OS is installed on your comp.  If you purchased your MBP from a private party, ask them.  Better yet, did the previous owner provide you w/the DVDs that originally came w/the MBP?  If not, you purchased a glorified door stop.
If none of the suggestions in the KB Article work out, take the MBP to your local AS or an AASP.
There is nothing more for me to suggest until you determine which OS you are working with and you have possession of the system DVDs that originally came w/the MBP.

  • HELP WITH BROKEN SCREEN 2G!!

So on sunday, i was talking to a friend on the phone, and being a clumsy idiot, tripped on a crack in the pavement that was like 5 inches tall. i ended up accidentally throwing my phone, and when i got it, it looked like this (will get links to pics in a bit!) it works perfectly though! i can text, make calls, even the places where the glass cracked originally work fine. but i want to get the glass replaced! ive seen on ebay that you can buy replacement glass, but i DO NOT want to open up this phone!! does anybody know if apple will cover it? i checked and it said my phone was not insured, but i still have apple complimentary service that expires in jan 25, 2010. will this complimentary service cover it? and if not, then how much would it cost? and is there a way to replace this myself without opening the phone, or taking it to a repair company and paying 250$ or more? Thanks for the help!!

Apple's warranty for the iPhone is a manufacturer's warranty, which does not cover accidental damage. Apple provides a one year warranty on the iPhone with an option to purchase the AppleCare extended warranty for U.S. residents anytime before the one year warranty period expires, which extends the standard one year warranty by an additional year. This is a manufacturer's warranty, which is limited and is not insurance.
Apple doesn't offer a menu of repair services such as replacing the glass and screen except for replacing the battery. With the first generation iPhone, there is more involved than just replacing broken glass.
Apple offers an out of warranty or not covered under the warranty "repair" price, which pays for an exchange and includes a warranty. Apple's "repair" or exchange price for the first generation iPhone is $199 for the 8GB, and $249 for the 16GB. You will receive an exchange which will be a refurbished first generation iPhone.

  • Unable to get help with Broken car compuer module item purchased from seller.

    Hi,
I am having issue with an item that I purchased march 15.
The item I purchased was a bmw car light module computer which controls the light.
On march 20th my machanic installed the part to my car and it over heated so, I contacted the seller on march 20.
    Seller said following:
"The heating up thing I'm not sure about"......"I wouldn't feel comforatabl taking a return on a module that now might be damaged"
Asked about operating temperature and seller kept on telling me he/she doesn't know.
I have went to couple mechanics to get it working as they told me they couldn't program it.
With refer I was able to find a machanic shop who specialized in programming and had it working after while.
After having the part programmed it was working fine for couple days and now it random stopped functioning again.
Going through multiple tests the mechanic told me it's the part that I purchased that's having the issue.
I contacted the seller again few times regards to this and on June 23th, I asked seller he told me to go see bmw see if they can warranty it.  So I asked for documentation so I can actually make that happen as this product as described is a brand new part from bmw. after few message back and forth now seller says:
"I don't have any documentation from the dealer purchase. I wish there was something I could do but after the 14 day return period as per ebay, warranties are not obligatory on my behalf. I'm very sorry your having this problem..but other than giving you an invoice from ebay, here I nothing else I can do"
Telling me now that he has no part no receipt or no way for me to get this part warrantied.....
    On June 24th:
I have told him that I got the part number from bmw dealer and the part plugged into the car over heated.  How is one supposed to know if part is over heating until it's not working and somone touches it??  This bmw part is the only thing that fits into the slot and there is no way anyone can install it wrong and if size was different it would not fit...  so I think I seller should be more worried about my car being damaged not his broken part that he sold me.
I been wanting to make this work with this seller yet, he doesn't seem to help me make this work.
I know the date is way past but with car parts I have to make numerous number of trip to the shop and make appointment,... also he sold brand new part from bmw why can't I get warranty on the part?
I am making this post because with ebay contact help I wasn't able send them a message.

You purchased on March 15.You received it and it was installed on March 20.The item does not work.So I asked for documentation so I can actually make that happen as this product as described is a brand new part from bmw.Did the mechanic say anything about this part being counterfeit? Most companies will not warranty items sold online, unless the item was purchased from an authorized dealer. Counterfeits are only part of the problem, since some resellers deal in returns, refurbishing, and ( occasionally/ rarely) even stolen stock.  also he sold brand new part from bmw why can't I get warranty on the part? What makes you think he is telling the truth about that? Liars lie. So the seller won't help.BMV won't help.  You are past the 45 day deadline for eBay Buyer Protection.Go to Paypal first, and start a claim for 'Item Not As Described'. PP has a 180 day deadline, but I am not sure that it covers NAD claims.  If that doesn't work, go to the credit card you really paid with (PP is just a useful mediator) phone the 1-800 number on the card and ask the customer service rep about a chargeback.

  • No help with broken screen

I have read many articles on the internet about how wonderful and sypathetic Apple are when it comes to broken devices, and how people have had their devices replaced free of charge out of good will. Well, my son is nearly 8 years old and has owned an ipad 2 for the last 14 months, it has been in a leather cover since new, the other day i told him to take it out of the cover and clean the screen with wipes, as you can imagine 8 year old boys and dirty fingers that get put in every orafice!!, Anyway, he took it out to clean it and dropped it on the tiles kitchen floor, resulting in a very craked screen and one very distressed little boy. I booked a slot at the genius bar in the apple shop where we bought it and attended at the correct time. I was told then that there was nothing they could do as they dont repair them and it would cost me £199......How comes, i have read that other people got it done for zero cost and here they are telling my boy that it's going to be £199 of his pocket money. ??????? Surely it can be done cheaper than that, £100 and I would have said Fair enough, but £200???? They didnt even feel any empathy for my son, they just wanted to hurry up and move onto the next customer, Being an Apple governed family,  with iphones and ipods and ipads taking over the home, i hope nothing else gets dropped! NOT VERY IMPRESSED!

The warranty covers materials and workmanship not damage. Dropping the iPad is classified as damage hence it is no longer under warranty after it was dropped.
Those are the rules. If you can find an Apple Store that is not following the rules they might replace it for you but that is totally up to them.
You can complain to Apple Customer Service but they are going to tell you the same thing I just told you.

  • [Megaworks 5.1 THX 550] Request for help with broken sub!

    Help!
Just the other day my Megaworks began producing a loud low level buzz when switched on they had been working fine the previous day, but when I switched them on the next day instantly the made this unbearable low level noise.
After much investigation I discovered that the centre and sub channels seem to be screwed in the sub itself. Trying various cable/soundcard/speaker combinations verified that it is indeed the sub itself at fault, rather than any other component.
The current situation is that any activity on the sub channel will produce an intolerable sound which plays at a volume ignorant of the settings on the volume control. Nothing plays through the centre speaker at all any more. Unplugging the sub/centre channel fixes the problem sometimes, but often it reappears after a short time even with the channel unplugged. Once the sound starts the only way to stop it is to power down the speakers (via the remote or via the power switch) or plug in the headphones. Also using the volume control causes audible 'clicks' to be heard, which were not there previously.
Note that the headphone pass-through on the remote still functions perfectly (volume control at well), but I assume that is on entirely different circuitry.
My best guess is that some electricity spike (when switching on the unit) fried a component, or perhaps the extreme cold we've had here messed it up, but I aint no expert!
    Questions then:
    1. Given it'ss out of warranty, does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the cause. Or rather what I could do to fix it's (I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron, and happy to get my hands dirty!)
    2. Otherwise what are the chances of a repair shop being able to do anything with it's Are there such things as Creative approved repair shops (in Scotland)? Would it likely cost a packet?
    3. Failing that, is it possible to purchase only a sub as a spare? I don't have the money right now to replace the whole lot with something similarly spec'd but may be able to stretch to a spare.
I know it'ss a bit of me clutching at straws here, but any help/suggestions gratefully received! I so don't want to lose my pride and joy and have to make do with some poor alternative.
(Apologies for the length of the post I wanted to try and cover all bases!)

yes u can i think.. should b alright.. you have a good amp man!

  • Help with broken display

My MacBook Pro screen has recently died. It is out of warrenty and without AppleCare. For the time being I have been using an external display with the hdmi out adapter.  This has been fine apart from some slight issue with resolution. In trying to fix the resolution issue I have un-ticked the mirror image option from the display options. Giving me a secondary desktop and a primary desktop. I am unable to change anything back or use any of my applications as I am unable to view any of the primary display. I can only view the secondary desktop on my external display with just a blank background. Is there anyway this can be resolved so I can use the external monitor as my primary desktop/display? I appreciate any response and apologise for any bad grammar as I am typing this on an old iPhone 3GS.
    Thank you.

I guess you could reset the PRAM.. then reboot.. once your computer senses the video cable it should display to the additional monitor.. I am not sure if the MacOS will sense the additional monitor as the "default" screen with the Finder menu bar or not..

  • Help with broken LCD

I've got a Zen Micro and this morning the LCD suffer "some pressure" (it was inside my jeans) and now the screen have a "black part" wich is about... 20x20 pix, on the top.
Do you know were I could find a new screen? (I suppose I will be able to change it by myself)
Or maybe you know of somebody with a ruined Zen Micro (jack problem, for instance) who can sell me the screen :? The guarantee expired a month ago, more or less (
    (Apologize my english, i'm spanish)

corroded lcd connector @ logic      or corroded inverter connector
or damaged feed from inverter to LED strip.    Doesnt have to be a SPILL to have corrosion, as a repair person you know this to be the case.

  • Help with broken ipad mini

I bought ipad mini in 2013 in the USA at at&t store. For some reason it is not working and DFU is not helpful. I am currently living in Russian Federation, so can I get help here in Apple Store and do I need any documents?

Keep trying or maybe try again later.  There are millions of people who are currently trying to do the same thing you're doing.  Just be patient and you will be able to update

  • Help with broken shell script

    Hi,
We had the shell script below created for our school last year to keep the students from jumping off of our wireless network so they had to go through our content filters. We put the script on all of the student laptops (MacBooks and MacBook pros) so it ran as a process in the background. It worked beautifully for the  whole year.
Now we are in the process of upgrading our laptops from Snow Leopard to Lion and we've discovered that the script no longer works in Lion. I am guessing it is something simple but I don't see it. Does anyone know what about the OS changed that would cause this script to stop working?
    Thanks

Brilliant, that worked perfectly! Thanks for the your help Linc.
Coincidentally, I found a posting on the website stackexchange.com that helped explain why it stopped working in the first placed and why "Airport" alone used to work in Snow Leopard.
Note what it says at the bottom:
"the port name is Wi-Fi on 10.7 and AirPort on 10.6. The device name can be at least en0,en1, or en2 depending on your setup."

  • Help with broken screen on new ipad plee I have brand new iPad when the smart cover slipped.  Any ideas on cost to replace screen as it has shattered. Thanks in advance.

I have just dropped my brand new iPad when the smart cover slipped.  Any ideas on cost to replace screen as it has shattered. Thanks in advance.

    Flat rate $299.
Actually, they won't replace the screen, they'll replace it.  The following is a C&P from the link that I gave you.
"If you own an iPad that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will replace your iPad with an iPad that is new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability for the Out-of-Warranty Service fee listed below."

  • Trouble Shooting help with broken system

    See sig for system.
Today I was just sitting there enjoying myself and decided to run diskeeper on my D:
PATA drive when pop went the weasel.  The computer won't boot to windows.
All the info the BIOS gives me looks good ie the sata and pata controllers are functioning as is the lone IDE drive.
I looked at the board and one of the sata ports is pulled slightly away from the board
yet the drive is recognized on it as it is on the other.
I have another PS that I will try tonight or tomorrow but was looking for some troubleshooting expertise.
Other info:  Hangs for a spell when loading atapi.sys
Won't boot my other OS 64 bit XP which was hidden when the error happened
Any Advice?  No way to test the SATA drive
    Thanks

As long as you don't re-initialize the PATA-RAID, nothing will go wrong. Simply keep an eye on any messages that warn you about data-loss.
I read the manual and it states I may lose data but probably not. Ok if I delete the array where does the data go? Drive 1 or Drive 2 or ? and can I access it by merely hooking the drive(s) to IDE? I have a ton of data and I can move it and back it up but if I don't have to I don't want to.
Or is that the only way to go. Once arrayed always arrayed?  As you can see I'm confused and need some spoon fed hand holding or the like.
    Thanks

  • I have an iphone 4S with broken wifi (!) and I need to sync my contacts before I set up my new iphone 6. I thought contacts synced automatically with itunes but seems not.  I've found my Apple address book but contacts are outdated. What to do? Help!

I have an iphone 4S with broken wif i :-( and I need to sync my contacts before I set up my new iphone 6. I thought contacts synced automatically with itunes but seems not.  I've found my Apple address book but contacts are outdated. What to do? Help!

If your Bluetooth is working, you may be able to tether your phone to another device, and backup that way.  Either via iCloud or one of many Apps that send yourself a VCF file containing your contacts.
You may have to update to a later IOS via USB and iTunes, not sure if IOS 6 has Bluetooth Tethering.
I would have thought you could also switch off cloud sync'ing for your contacts, this should ask a question if you want to keep the contacts on your phone.  An iTunes Backup and then Restore to your new iPhone should restore the local contacts.  Then sync these back to the iCloud.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help with a ridiculous half-broken Yosemite/Mavericks install?

    Hello all,
I hate Yosemite. It's the Windows 8 of OS X...with broken DNS to boot.
I was troubleshooting some video issues, and decided to try and see if the problem persisted in Yosemite.
I downloaded the installer from the App Store and begun the install process for an installation on a flash drive.
After the install completed, my iMac rebooted, and to my horror everything was Yosemite-y. I shut down and unplugged the flash drive.
My suspicions were true, Yosemite had gunked up my Mavericks installation pretty bad. The boot logo was Yosemite, and my mac booted to a Yosemite installer at startup. I tried using the "kind of mac bootloader" that is invoked with the option-key, but my Mavericks install didn't show up. Luckily my Mavericks Recovery Partition was bootable, and after 2 hours of trying different ways to find and mount my Mavericks partition, I was in. The reason that this took so long was because at every step of the way, Yosemite tried its hardest to hide my Mavericks partition. (A process resembling the acts of Malware). My Mavericks partition boots, but when I startup my mac, I am greeted with the Yosemite apple logo, and Yosemite option-key bootloader, and then my Mavericks login screen.
How did this Frankenstein of an OS even become of existence? I checked, and yes, Yosemite installed onto my flash drive, NOT my SSD, but it still shoved all the boot crap onto my Mavericks install.
Is this even fixable, or should I restore from Time Machine? I'd rather not have to reinstall, but will if needed.

Do a backup, preferably 2 seperate ones.
Revert to a Previous OS X
    Revert Yosemite to Mavericks
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.
