Help with built-in Software Instrument triggering from Roland V-Drum TD-9S
I'm trying to figure out how to map the drums triggers in my TD-9S Roland V-Drum module to the correct drums as Logic 8 interprets them. I've gotten very far with this- but when I use another app like the BFD demo, it's evident that I am not as close as I thought. the BFD app is able to "learn" the drum that the trigger is triggering, so it's pretty easy to set up.
Without any changes in Logic, it's close, but the hi triggering is not working correctly. For example, when hihat is closed it triggers nothing. The bass drum is triggering an initial hit followed by a ghost note, and the ride cymbal is triggering the bell of the ride only. I'm not using the BFD plug in in Logic- just the stock instruments that come with Logic 8.
I really just want to know where to map out the midi trigger to midi (specific) drum sound within Logic and it has so far proved daunting.
Just to be sure, have you connected the MIDI inputs/outputs correctly? It's rather confusing, if memory serves (been a little while since I did any MIDI).
You want the MIDI out on your v-drums connected to the MIDI in on the mIO interface, and the MIDI in on the v-drums connected to the MIDI out on the mIO. That is, you want the drums’ output to connect to the interface’s input, and the drums’ input connected to the interface’s output (in case you want to control the drums via GarageBand in some fashion).
That should “just work”.

Live Recording with mics and Software Instruments
Has anyone used the Software Instruments in GB to play live, while recording the Software Instruments direct and live (Real Instruments) as well?
I'm thinking about getting a FirePod or similar, to record my band live using several mics and playing and recording Software Instruments all at once. I'm concerned that this set up might have too much latency and make the Software Instruments not playable with my band live, and perhaps all this might make my iMac G5 bog down.
Anyone have any experiences with any or all of this kind of use of GarageBand with an audio/MIDI interface?

I'd like to be able to use the built-in Software Instruments live and record that MIDI as well as the live tracks at the same time. However, I could deal with using my own keyboards for the live sounds and just record the MIDI from them while recording the live tracks too, if that makes the system work. For instance, if the part I wanted was a piano, and the Software Instrument piano used too much processor power, I could "record" with a smaller instrument that wasn't such a hog. Then, in mixing, I'd use the Software Instrument I wanted for the keyboard part. Live, my real keyboard could provide the piano for all to hear.
Am I making sense yet?
I suppose one thing I could do is something I was thinking of doing already. I could get one of the $40 MIDI-to-USB interfaces to record with the band. Right now, I'm just using a stereo mic set up to record stereo into GB. I could add MIDI and see what happens. Heck, I could enable 6 more real instrument tracks at the same time and see what happens! Then I would know it was possible on the iMac at least. -
Copying an entire software instrument track from one project to another
Hello,
Is it possible to copy or import one entire software instrument track from one GB 3.0.2 project to another? At the moment I've got to copy a region from one project, open another project, paste it in the 2nd project, and open the other one again (which appears to close the 2nd project) to copy the second region. This is incredibly cumbersome because I can't have both projects open at the same time.
Has anyone found a less tiresome method to do this?

Powerbook 15" Hi Res 1.67 GHz 2 Gb RAM Mac OS X (10.4.6)The easiest work-around I can imagine is to join all regions of the track and copy that. Another option is to freeze the track, which will turn it into normal audio. You might also add your MIDI parts to the library. That will avoid the need to switch between projects, but does require one or two more actions.

Help with updates - The software change returned error code 0x87D00215(-2016411115).
I have rolled out bunch of updates across few hundred workstation systems.
Few of the desktops have failed to install SOME of the updates and just can't get my head around as to why?
Looking at one of the workstations, I can see 5 updates are pending download at 0%.
Some of these fail after a while and with in Software Centre, I can see 'Help with updates - The software change returned error code 0x87D00215(-2016411115).'. Not exactly sure what this means, but I have tried clearing the cache and
rebooting the workstations few times.
(I have also tried to use Windows Update and install one of these manually, which worked.)Investigating this further, I have found the following in CAS.log:

Need help with creating multi out instruments...
What do I do wrong here… I tried to figure this out already since at least 1 year. I am desperate!
Here is what I do while trying to make a multi output instrument in logic studio 9:
1:I create 1 software instrument:
2: I choose a multi output stereo AU Instrument:
3: I load 5 software instruments, each on its own channel, all in the same Logic Instrument:
4: In the mixer, I created 5 Aux channels by clicking on the + sign of the Instrument:
5: In the arrange window, I create 5 new channels from the Track menu with New with Next Midi Channel:
Now when playing the 1st instrument track, still the sound goes directly to the output 1/2, the Aux sliders don't have any control over the volume. What do I do wrong?

Depending on which version of Kontakt you are using, there are some "automated" ways of creating additional outputs, and assigning each sound to a different output:

Once you have done that, and (in Logic) loaded a Multi-Out instance of Kontakt, all you have to do is create the additional Aux channels in the mixer (using the small +) at the bottom of the Instrument Channel Strip).

Help with PS and HDR Effect Pro from Nik
I altready have a help request into Nik Software, but was hoping someone here could offer some suggestions.
I'm running the Nik Complete software program on Win 7 64Bit, Raid 5 machine. 8800 GTS 512 MB card; 12gb of RAM, i7 quad core, 2.67 GH, PS CS5 and Lightroom 3.2, Wacom Intuos 3 tablet.
I have the most updated drivers for video, wacom tablet. OS is current with updates. PS CS5 is updated, but I am NOT running Lightroom's 3.3 RC.
I updated all software updates for the NIK software collection from their site and still have the same problem even after uninstall and re-install.
When I attempt to run HDR Efect Pro I get the menu window to select my images, click ok and with in seconds I get the message that Adobe Photoshop CS5 has stoopped working and must close...
I've gone to their site and looked into their FAQ/troubleshooting and did all their recommendations, update drivers, look for color profiles with 0 Bytes in the system color spool for both 32 and 64 bit apps and still no luck. This also happens with CS4 and CS3 and if I attempt to use the program form Lightroom and Bridge. Any ideas, work arounds, suggestions? Their automatic reply from my support request says 2-3 days due to the high populaity of their program!!!

You could try disabling the "Use OpenGL Drawing" setting in Photoshop as a workaround to see if that helps. Perhaps between Photoshop and the plug-in problems are being caused in the OpenGL driver for your particular video card.
Also, given that 3rd party plug-ins and Photoshop could be competing for memory, you could try changing the amount of memory Photoshop is allowed to use in the Edit - Preferences - Performance dialog.

Help with backing up files and opening from disk image.
I am trying to back up my hard drive so that I can send my PowerBook in for repair. I used disk utility from my Panther install discs to create a disk image of my HD.
The disk image was created successfully and mounts perfectly on my HD. I can open it and open all of my files from the disk image just fine when it is mounted on my PowerBook.
However, when I take it to a different Mac, things start getting sketchy. I can open Word files just fine, but Excel files claim they are read-only and cannot open. I checked the permission back on my PowerBook to see what was up, and the files were read/write for the owner and read-only for groups and others, but they should still open as read-only files right? I even checked the permissions on the Word files to see if there was a difference, but there was no difference.
I can take the external HD back to my PowerBook, remount it, and open everything fine, but then on the other Mac it is a no go.
I need to back this up for when it is out on repair, but I need to know that the files will open in case I need to restore my disk.
Can anyone help??
BTW, I couldn't find the best forum to post this in, if there is a better one please direct me there...solution:
I went into the Apple Store nearby today to send my PowerBook off for repair for a screen issue, and in the process got help with my backing up issue.
It seems all one needs to do is copy the file from the external hard drive to the internal drive.
It was that simple.

Help with the iTunes 9, transferring music from older version.
I have a 2nd generation iPod Nano. I have a new laptop and attempted to download iTunes to manage my music library. I don't listen to the music on the computer just purchase from iTunes and then Sync with my iPod. I'm not good at techology. When I downloaded iTunes onto my new laptop, it deleted all my playlist but my songs are on my iPod just in numerical order.
I cannot get my Music from my iPod to transfer to the current version of iTunes. I am able to select Sync my iPod and it said Do Not Connect but nothing happpened with my iTunes library. Also, I purchased a song from iTunes and it will not transfer to my iPod.
Any suggestions other than to keep using my old laptop? I'm not even sure if the Music Library is set up on that computer because in the process of attempting to set up on the new laptop I select to move my Library to the new laptop.Syncing music is a one way street with the iPod and that is from iTunes to the iPod and NOT the other way around. The only exception to this rule is with iTunes purchases. You can transfer them back to iTunes by plugging the iPod and choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.
Otherwise, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Help with Digital Output software
Hey people. I need your help to improve my software. I need to use some digital outputs. The software does this:
- Choose which one battery to monitor
- Activate only one digital output at a time
Ok, I have done this, but I guess it's not the best solution. I've tried to make it a lot of different ways, mainly because I am using the VI's several times and it is not an "optimal code". Well, beyond that, I can't have two digital outputs HIGH at the same time, i mean, I CAN'T have LINE2 and LINE3, for example, at HIGH (true) at the same time.
Does anybody have any idea on how to help me?

Need help with line-by-line triggering
We have a Basler L104k-2k digital linescan camera interfaced to a NI PCI-1428 frame grabber. We are writing our own custom software using VB6 and NI-IMAQ. We are trying to trigger the image acquisition off of our table motion so that slowing down the table will slow down the shutter speed, etc. We are controlling motion with a NI PCI-7342 servo card and have a RTSI cable connecting the 7342 and 1428 cards. We have been unable to acquire images by line-by-line triggering via the RTSI signal. We have looked at all of the examples we could find on the NI site and still have not been able to get this to work. We are setting up a signal in IMAQ to trigger off of the encoder and route it over RTSI, with some skiptrigger value (say 8000).
We only seem to be getting one line diplayed in the video image. We have used the basler camera setup tool to set the camera to ExSync, Level Control.
We are only allocating one image buffer in IMAQ. We are assuming that the grame grabber takes all of the individual linescans and composes one image out of them. In MAX, we have set the image height to 2048 lines. Any ideas? We have hit the wall on this.Attached is an example VI for acquiring images from a line scan camera, triggering the start of each image and the individual lines. This is not the most elegant of examples. You will need to declare the appropriate number of buffers in MAX before using the VI. The image is built in PC memory. For example, if your image is 2048 x 10000, then you will need 10000 buffers. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Graftek Imaging, cbr 512-416-1099.

Help with Powershell script to gather eventlogs from all Domain Controllers
I am trying to write a script to grab the last 5 days of application, security and system logs from all domain controllers. The script runs but only pulls the logs from the local server. The $Computer variable has all of my DC's so it is querying fine. I
assume it is an issue with my ForEach-Object line but it doesn't error out. See the script below.

Help with iTunes/iPhone/Software update
Hi all, I have a MacBook Pro and am running OS X version 10.5.8 on it. However, when I plug in my iPhone 4GS in it now, it says that it can't be used unless I have the new version of iTunes (currently showing version of iTunes 10.6.3)--- however, when I check for software updates, nothing is coming up and it says everything is up to date. If I directly try to download the newest version of iTunes, it says my OS isn't up to date... This is something new that has occurred within the last couple of months. I didn't have a problem with it before. Help please!!!

Clueless Mac UserIf you need the current iTunes 10.7, you'll need to upgrade to OS X 10.6. You can buy it online from the Apple store or call them, which in the US is 800-MY-APPLE.

Please help with error message invoking external service from BPEL
Yes, I'm new to Oracle SOA Suite and BPEL Process manager. I've searched the forums, OTN, and Google and have not found any description of this error message:
"oracle.fabric.common.FabricException: Number of SOAP body elements and parts do not match in operation: <operation-name>"
Using JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0 and WebLogic/SOA 10.3.2.0.
The BPEL process was built completely using JDeveloper's graphical tools... I haven't done any raw editing of the BPEL files yet. What types of things might I possibly be doing wrong that would cause this error to occur? Any idea what two things the server is comparing and deciding that there's a mismatch? It doesn't look like it is even attempting to invoke the external service, but bailing out before that, thinking that it's going to send bad data. Below is a bit more detail.
Also, I loaded up the WSDL (same one that I gave to JDeveloper) into SOAPUI. Then I took the payload that SOA was about to send (see below) and pasted it into SOAPUI. SOAPUI didn't complain and the target web service accepted the message and produced a "success" response. It looks like the payload is correct, so I don't know why SOA is complaining.

</messages>Welcome to BPEL. Take a moment, and write "it's a namespace issue" on a sheet of paper. Post it near your monitor. It won't always be a namespace issue, but it's usually a good thing to suspect first! Is the namespace prefix ns1: defined somewhere? Does your XML that is being sent really match what the WSDL has for input to the UpsertEmp operation? The namespaces for each element level in the XML need to match, not just the lowest level.
When problems like this get really sticky, you can use TCP tunneling (obtunnel shell?) to capture what is really being sent to the server, and compare that to what is sent from SOAPUI. That's more useful if it's a subtle header problem, but you may get better error messages if you catch the BPEL message and send it using SOAPUI.

Help with project: trying to create variables from decimals
topic may be a bit unclear, but I have a project from a java course. I need to create a simple program, but hit a bit of a bump.
I have made a formula to find that the total hours equals 2.7350 which is equal to 2hours, 44minutes, 6seconds.
so to sum what I just said up, I have the number 2.7350, but need to display 2hours, 44minutes, 6seconds
now I need help of how I can accomplish this with basic java (this is my first java class).
If there is a way to leave 2 and take .7350 in separate variables, I can make some more formulas to convert that to the answer I need displayed, but I don't know how.
Please help if you have ideas

I also should have mentioned that the numbers are generated via formula and user input, so it is not pre set.
I will try something out with the subtraction idea. however, if you have a solution please post it in case my idea doesn't work.
