Help with crashes

So... this will be a bit long...
I am getting some serious problems with my machine, and I don't think I can solve this my self. I be not very tech-savvy.
Recently I upgraded my cpu video card and ram in a period of 1-2 weeks. Everything was fine at one point, but then stuff went bad.
I am dual booting arch with win. My win started crashing during loading sreen, but only at first boot of the day. Then no problem. I decided to ignore.
At that time I was using only win for like a month. Then after the ram upgrade my whole pc started crashing at random times.
I decided to switch the new ram with an other one. Then the crashes stoped, but still I had that loading screen crash at first boot.
Never the less everything else was fine.
Then I went to arch to use it again. First my firefox started crashing at random times (the same stuff was happening in win before the second ram change,
after that win's firefox was fine but not the arch one). Then my whole sistem started crashing at random times first only when I go on youtube,
but now when I watch videos offline too and use firefox for other things. I dont know what I am supposed to do. I was reading some of the wiki and
installed mcelog to see if it can catch something.
Here is log from last crash:

The first part of your mcelog (the bit about " failed to prefill DIMM database from DMI data") strongly suggest one of the new RAM chips is defective. Start by simply putting the old one back in place and seeing if that helps. If it does, exchange the new faulty one with the seller for one that works. However, since you say yourself you aren't very tech savvy, it may be the case that you've simply purchased a RAM chip that is not compatible with your motherboard (although if both of the new chips are identical and the first one works, that may not be so).
When deciding to upgrade all the most vital hardware components of a machine, it's best to do it one piece at a time, and reconfigure the operating system to account for the new hardware. Uninstall old drivers, install new ones, change any personal settings related to the old hardware, reboot, make sure everything's fine and then repeat the process for every other new piece of hardware. Replacing everything at once without ensuring it will all work together increases the chances problems like this immensely---the problem itself may be very simple, but you've undertaken so many changes in such a short time that finding out what the problem is in the first place can be very complicated.

In an interest to turn some of my recent discussions in a more positive direction and in keeping with the primary function of this forum (seeking advice and solutions) and in a further effort to not continually ***** about PRE8, can someone please help with and interpret the following crash codes recently generated by PRE8?
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Needing help with crashing PhotoShop after Yosemite OS Update

I updated to the new Yosemite OS and was using PhotoShop CS5.1, and now the program crashes after trying to open more than one photo at a time.  I have cleared all settings and updated everything I can update.  I can't revert back to my old OS because it wasn't backed up before doing so.  Is there a solution to this?

Chris, I was not able to help with this Yosemite CS3 problem, but I did ask for a crash report. If you have time can you go over it?

  • Any help with crashing project?

Hello,  I am a little new to Premiere pro but I don't feel this is a PEBCAC problem.  I have been working for 2 weeks on a project and everything has been fine.  I exported my sequence the other day and nothing to report, all good.  Today I open the project and as soon as all the media is loaded, everything seems normal.  It will sit there for ever idle no problems.  As soon as I move the timeline, the program crashes.
I have not changed any media, changed any software, changed any hardware since my last session.  I have opened a new project and tried to import the previous project which worked until I moved the timeline.
Seeing as everything was fine last time, I don't see how it could be a corrupt media file?  The next step was to try to move the initial files so they won't import and see if the process of elimination might work.
Reading the event log (and I'm just making assumptions as I am not familiar with the information contained) it looks like [perhaps there is something wrong with the render engine?  When I scrub the timeline the renderer is faulty and crashed the program??  (Imagerenderer.dll)
I have 18gb of RAM, I7 PC on windows 7 CS5 NVIDIA Quadro FX1700 video card.  There doesn't seem to be a logical explainantion seeing as nothing has changed.  The error log is below.
Any help would really be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Question and a general comment
Q - since this error indicates images, what kind of images (JPG, PSD, etc) and what pixel dimensions?
C - As well as the below, right click the program icon and select Run as Administrator... which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account... and which fixes several "odd" problems
    Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/771202?tstart=0
Long File Names or odd characters cause problems

  • Headless Mac Pro getting stuck - need help with Crash Report

I have a headless Mac Pro being used as a server. It has recently begun to have problems such as slowing down for a few minutes with apps being slow or non-reponsive. It may serve pages, but the database or FTP may not respond. When logging with VNC (screen sharing) we may get a blank screeen or a screeen with lots of black squares and artifacts. If often clears up, but if fully black will usually require that I log on via SSH and reboot. It may be fine for a day and other days may slow down a few times.
The only apps are Abyss Web Server, Panorama database, CrushFTP (uses JAVA), and Backuplist+. Temperatures seem to be okay with the highest being the Nortbridge Heat Sink (167 degrees) and a memory module (163 degrees). The primary disks are a few months old and have over 200 GB of free space. I have done maintenance with Applejack, Onyx, and Disk Warrior.
It finally crashed altogether and I am not experienced at interpreting the reports so here is the crash report in the hopes that someone can help determine the problem:

... Correlates with NVIDIA graphics card failure OR the use of two NVIDIA cards simultaneously in the same Mac Pro in 10.8 and later.
The Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250,  works in every model Mac Pro, and drivers are in 10.6.5 and later.
If you decide to do a Conversion of your Server from 10.5 to 10.6, it is not too bad. Just plan on a brief downtime -- I tried to keep it all running 24/7 by creating a new Servername for the new one, and that serious mistake still haunts me.
You should plan on such a conversion to get closer to current security updates -- 10.5 is not getting those updates, and you should really disconnect your 10.5 Server from the Internet.

it now works ... then we sync it with itunes 7.5 it crashed tried 8.0 it crashed even tried 9.25 and 10.1.
it crashed and locked the computer.
the drive is griding like mad , its slow and it wont always show up.
we think it a classic 5 g , it has a 30 gig hard drive, (post s/n later as im writing this in bed)
we got it up and running and then itunes 7.5 crashed. now it gone back to a small circle with a line which is black.
it looks like the wrong firmware keeps booting as it is suposed to be a red circle with line which is twice the size.
i know it had firmware 3.1 on it before and it eventually finds it. and works but
    can someone tell me
1 where do i find the correct version of the firm ware as i think the current 1 is scrambled.
as for the hard drive it is getting hot and griding do u think i need replace it.
think s/n or model number is m????k something.
    were runing out of ideas
    can u help
    btw my first post.

*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that the iPod's hard drive is failing. Take the iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. The iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest the drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace the iPod. Check the stats after another attempt to update the iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next, e.g. replace the hard drive or the entire unit.

    Hi Andbrowny,
    Thank you for responding.
first, I can not manually connect to the other mac nor can I ping it (message "host is down") however both macs can connect to the internet and can connect to a pc on the same network. I can ping my router and both macs are receiving a tcp/ip address through DHCP. appletalk is not active on the wireless network since it is used on ethernet to print through an Asantetalk bridge. It has always before worked OK like this. SLP is enabled in directory access. I cannot find a file either visable or invisable called slp.regfile. I have zapped pram and rebooted many times.
I first thought that the problem was my router untill I found the error message about slp. Now I don't know.

  • Help with crashing - is it RAM or a processor?

I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro, 2x2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, with 56 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC ram (yes, 56), an ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 Mb graphics card, running OS X 10.9.5 (13F34).
I have done some research on reading crash reports but I still don't understand them enough to get beyond nailing my problems down to either a bad stick of RAM or Processor #6 (I think). I'm going to start switching out sticks of RAM tomorrow morning before I start my computer, then repeat that process each morning, so in a few days I'll know if it's RAM or not, but the suspense over whether or not it's my processor is killing me. Somehow I feel it'll be less stressful if I just KNOW its the processor - that way I can accept my fate and start looking at getting a newer computer.
So anyone who can read these things and can offer any definitive info would be greatly appreciated.

RAM is not the issue in a Mac Pro with Xeon processor, unless you get a distinctive kernel panic, machine check. Otherwise, every Read from memory is checked by Hardware and errors are corrected on the fly, with essentially no slowdown. In the Mac Pro silver tower or dark cylinder, Memory problems do not fester undetected.

Page fault is a reference to memory out of bounds (you do not own). It is most often caused by software.
If you remove the hexadecimal addresses from the stack trace as shown above, the list of what extensions were at the "scene of the crime" becomes much more clear. That is why I could see that your external (SCSI architecture) drives were implicated, and thomas_r. could call out the highpoint driver as being involved.

  • Help with crash (kernel panic) during new backup

I had problems with TM after 10.5.2 update. As discussed in other places, I decided to completely erase the parition on the FW drive and start from scratch. At this point, TM gets "stuck" after backing up about 250MB (already had 25 GB of 120GB backed up). It just doesn't move. In looking at Console (system log), I see 2 things of concern:
Macintosh DNS Responser [16]: Error getting external address 3 (this just keeps repeating over and over, and was present both before and after starting TM backup)
Macintosh quicklookd [834]: EXCEPTION CPMessageException (null) (that was only after starting TM backup and it got stuck).
    Any help much appreciated

  • Where can I download fcp rescue for 4.5 or need help with crashing

    Hi guys,
I'm still running 4.5 and haven't had a lot of problems with it in the past 2 years. I can't get the program to open today however. It keeps getting stuck on "profiling for rt extreme". I've trashed all the preferences, rebooted, and searched this forum for answers, but am still having problems.
In one post I found a link for fcp rescue, but it looks like they've taken off old versions of the program. I can only download for fcp 5.
Does anyone know where I could still download this program from FCP 4.5? or Can anyone suggest trying something other than trashing preferences or reinstalling?

FCP Rescue for Four and 4.5 are the same program.
As to your issue, I'd make sure you don't have any errant USB/FW devices plugged in. And I believe you get the Profiling for RT Extreme when there are no preferences, so it would seem that you've done that part right...

  • Proud new owner of CS4 :(  Requested help with crash on prproj open

So far not so good.  I have been doing nothing but jumping through hoops since transititioning from CS3 to CS4.
After running the latest updates most of my problems seemed to be fixed, except for one.
If I open a CS3 prproj file (which works) and then "Save" or "Save As" the prproj (to either the same file name or a new name), when I try to open the newly saved file premiere closes after attempting to load the prproj.  Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

This has been reported before. The cure (or even the cause) isn't really known, at least by me. However, in those previous instances, Save_As_a_Copy yielded a PRPROJ file that worked as it should. The one thing to remember about Save_As and Save_As_a_Copy is how they differ. Save_As changes the name and keeps that newly named file open in PrPro. Save_As_a_Copy creates the newly named file, but you still have the original open in PrPro. You will want to Open the Save_As_a_Copy file separately.
Hope that it works for you too.
    Hunt
PS thanks for putting the version # in the Title. That will make it easier for Jeff, or Jerry.K, to spot it and move it to the PrPro sub-forum, and not here to the pre-Pro Pr sub-forum. A lot of folk are getting confused about where to post, as of the new sub-fora changes.
PPS Also, welcome to the forum.
[Edit] Disregard the PS. I was replying to a CS4 post in the Pr sub-forum and one of the MOD's move it, while I was replying. I did not realize that I had jumped out of the Pr forum and had gotten into the PrPro sub-forum. They are just so quick. That's the second time that it's happened to me. Must learn to look at which sub-forum I have ended up in - mea culpa, mea culpa!

  • Help with my iPad one.

My iPad one keeps crashing. It never crashed before ios5. Now it even crashes when using Apple apps like Safari. I have done e latest upgrade.

Start with easy steps. Restart your iPad and if that doesn't help - maybe resetting it will help.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
You can also try quitting apps and restarting the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Clearing Safari may help with crashes in that app as well.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Can I get help with podcasts?  When I try to open the podcasts, itunes crashes, says "itunes has detected a problem and must close", or the spanish equivalent since my xp is in spanish.  everything else works fine, it even downloads podcasts and syncs.

The only other thing I can suggest is to use the Repair option for iTunes.
Download the iTunes programme (do not uninstall your current iTunes) and then "install" the new copy. At some stage you should see an option to "install" or "Repair". Take the Repair option.
Once you've done that, if you still have a problem, I don't know what else to suggest, except to search through the discussions to see if anyone else has had the problem and managed to fix it.
