Help with creating soft black or white mask around a picture With Cs3 extended

I am kinda new to photoshop and have did ok with many of its features with what I am using for~
Have a website of Yorkies and have now learned how to put in different backgrounds thanks to you guys:)
Now would like to know how other folks are creating a very SOFT WHITE OR BLACK MASKOR filter???// AROUND THEIR DOG PICS..HAVE SAW THIS ON A FEW SITES AND LOVE IT!! I was working with a program before photoshop where the black or white was called a Mask and I was able to do looked nice...........but not as soft and advanced as what I am seeing around some dog pictures that I do not know how to do with photoshop. This features seems to really make the dog stand out and your able to control ( I think) where the mask or filter is?????????

I'm not certain, but I suspect you're referring to what's known as a "vignette," (pronounced Vin-YET). Google "vignette in Photoshop."

I'm using pro Cs4 and was wondering how do I create a black and white text clip? When I used Vegas there was a clip I could put in, and simply write whatever I needed.

Do you wish to have a black field w/ white text, over part of an existing Video Clip, or do you want just a black field w/ white text and not have any Video showing through?
For the latter, just do a Title in Titler, w/ white text, and place that on the Timeline.
For the former, let us know the exact details, as that is slightly different.

[Edit] as a little background, when in Titler, you will see a "black" background, but that is really Transparent. However, if placed on the Timeline, with nothing below it, it will show black.

How can I create a black and white image similar to what I see in the "Replace Color" tool?

Hi all, I'm just wondering how I can create a black and white image similar to what I see in the preview window of the "Replace Color" tool. See attached screenshot for clarification -- I need the grass to be black while the soil is white or vice versa. Any tips?

One way is to use Select>Color Range
Make a new Color Fill Layer>White
(Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color)
Put a new color fill layer below>black
Just invert the layer mask on the top fill layer for the opposite effect.

Best way to create a Black-n-White short?

Dear Forum Members,
I'll be shooting a short film on a DVX-100A this month and want the finished version in Black-n-White. I will be editing with FCP5. As far as I know, the DVX does not shoot in b/w.
Is there a standard process to convert color video to b/w in FCP5? Any additional thoughts, insights going into the shoot, i.e., things I can do in production to accomodate the conversion later in post?

i have to agree with bogiesan on this one. shooting black and white digital video is the absolute last thing i would recommend, especially if you're using the dvx100 factory scene files which produce a horribly narrow contrast ratio.
it's generally considered that a simple desaturation is a less than satisfactory method of producing good black and white images. it's fast and simple but leaves one wanting. the best methods rely upon the grayscale output of r,g,b channel mixing which is why it's best to capture in full living color and why i would recommend boosting the saturation a few steps in the scene files. i would also recommend lowering the master ped to -3 or -4. do a shadow test and see which setting you like best. i have scene files on my camera with a master ped level of -5 and that looks cool many times.
you can find a way to get the create your own grayscale channel-mixing composite but tis far easier to buy a suite of great plug-ins like Nattress Big Box of Tricks http://www.nattress.com/Products/BigBox/Bigbox.htm which is well worth 100 bucks simply for G Super Levels alone. the G Monochrome filter will accomplish what you want. the Too Much Too Soon suite of freeware filters also has a black and white channel mixer but if you go too heavy handed with the blue channel, the horrible inherent noise within DV25 is soon obvious.
By processing to monochrome in post, you can also change the channel mixing to best suit various scenes.
as with every production, you need to test your methodology and workflow to avoid any pitfalls along the way. one more thing; avoid using auto-iris like the plague! the human eye is very sensitive to luminance changes and in a black and white movie, even the slightest auto-iris change will stick out like a kansas republican in downtown chicago!

I would like to know where I can get help regarding reinstalling Photoshop CS3. I bought Photoshop a long time ago when it was on a disk. I kept upgrading it until I had upgraded it to CS3. Recently my computer crashed that had the Photoshop CS3 on it. I'm trying to get the Photoshop CS3 on my new computer, but it wants the serial # of the original program, but it DOES NOT list the photoshop 3 or photoshop 4 that I bougt years ago. I registered Photoshop CS3 so it should be on file that I own it. Can anyone tell me where I can get help with this. CS3 cost me a lot of money and I like using it.

You might be out of luck since Adobe no longer provides support for CS3. The only hope you might have is to contact Adobe Support by chat or by phone and explain to them your scenario and hope that you get someone who is willing to work a bit and see what they can do to help you thru.

Upgrading From Cs2 With Cs3 Extended On Computer

I currently have both PS CS2 as well as CS3 Extended on my computer. When I decided to upgrade to CS3 from CS2 I went with the extended version but find I really have no use personally for the 3D tools. Strangely, there is no way to 'downgrade' from CS3 Extended to plain old garden variety CS4. However, it does appear that you can upgrade from CS2 to CS4.
If both CS2 and Cs3 Extended are on my machine and I purchase a CS4 upgrade will the software see the CS2 and allow an upgrade to CS4, or will I be 'shut out' because I have CS3 Extended on the machine? Will I have to uninstall CS3 Extended and then do the upgrade to CS4?
Has anyone done this....seems like one of the two options above should work. Thanks.

Hi,
Just to let people know, this problem is far from 'fixed' from an Adobe Customer Service perspective has wasted (so far) 5 hours of my time without any resolution. I upgraded to Vista 64 bit to get more memory for Lightroom and Photoshop. Has to install my Extended CS3 then the CS4 Upgrade. Of Course the CS4 upgrade wouldn't recognise the CS3 Extended install. "No problems" I thought - I'll call my friendly customer service people tomorrow during working hours (note I live in Australia so these people are in Manilla). In the mean time I tested CS4 in trial mode
Anyway called Customer Service the next morning (today) and found that CS4 would not even accept the upgrade Serial number as it had decided that it was really a CS4 Extended Version and wanted a Extended Version Serial Number. I was advised that this was a known 'feature' as licence keys are further restricted by the language of the original install. And I had inadvertently left the upgrade install at the default of English (US) whereas my previous CS3 was set to a language of English (International) and once you start the trial it defaults to the version of the installed product rather than the version of the upgrade. ...Sigh.. After lots of fun with customer support and various failed attempts we had to do a complete uninstall of CS4 and a registry clean, a Photoshop Cache delete and a clean install to get back to square one (which is entering a CS4 product key)... Because the full install takes time, the helpful Technical Support person asks me to call back when it is done and gives me a support Case Number etc.
I call back ready for the unlock and quote my Support Case Number. Being a call centre I get a new person. And 'helpfully' all the extra information was not in my case file, just the basics that I had an upgrade issue and that it was resolved (lol). So we start again. This new technical support person says that it is not an approved upgrade path from CS3 Extended to CS4 and that he needs to put me through to Customer Support to explain my options (I barely control my urge to scream!).
After a long wait I spend ages talking to Customer Support who flatly deny that there is any approved path from CS3 Extended to CS4 standard and suggest that I return the upgrade and buy and extended one. I try again and get a second customer support person! Eventually after pushing they agree to try and seek 'special approval' for a non standard upgrade. At this point - after 5 hours of installing, uninstalling and hours on the phone to Adobe I am no closer to having a working CS4 upgrade.
I have escalated to Jack Nash via his Blog to (hopefully) get help. But it is really disappointing to have an issue that was supposedly resolved back in early October 2008 still exist and such challenges tyring to get Customer Support / Technical Support to address it.
My real nightmare is the future... With Windows 7 coming next year and doubtless CS5 in a couple of years... Unless Adobe change their processed I can see a nightmare many days process involving having install the original CS3, then CS4, then the special approval (again!) then CS5 etc... Really Adobe need to join the modern world. Adobe have our serial numbers held against our customer registration Email etc. So we should not have to have older versions installed in series to do an upgrade. Just have the install do an automatic check on-line that we have the most recent version licensed to us... and the on-line code could be e4asily changed to fix problems like this, rather than the rigid activation code installed on the CD.

Help with using 'extend' while creating a class between two other classes

I have an assignment, basically to take a Date class and make it so it can output the date to a String, so if it was 4/2006, it would do April 2006.

Help with CS3 on Windows 7 hard drive.

I have Photoshop CS3 on an XP hard drive. I have a Windows 7 hard drive now and cannot access Photoshop on the other hard drive and it won't let me install in on the new hard drive. Do I need a patch or something? It tells me to uninstall and install again, but it's on the other hard drive and I don't know how to uninstall it there and really need to get this installed again as I need to do a memorial brochure for a friend. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

You either have to reconnect the old drive as the C: drive and uninstall, well actually, deauthorize photoshop. then switch drives again.
Or
You can notify Adobe that you have more than 2 computers with photoshop installed (the old drive counts as a computer) you need then to reset your license.
Now I am assuming how photoshop was installed, If you already had 2 drives and installed on the second drive instead of the main drive and something went wrong so you can no longer access it. Thats another story.
Adobe has a cleaner app that can find photoshop and remove all traces of it for you, so you can resinstall it. I never used that app, so I can not give advice on how it works, but I have heard other recommend using it.

Need help with CS3 DW previews in Firefox 3.6.13

I'm working in CS3 Dreamweaver & just updated Firefox to 3.6.13. Before I updated, I had no problem previewing websites in DW. Since I'm on a Mac & working on a Linux site, now I can't get previews on any browser but Safari (no Firefox, no IE). Help!

There is a fix for Dreamweaver, so it works in Firefox 3.6+ versions on MacOSX 10.5 and higher - may be inconsistent with lower versions of Mac OSX:

HELP WITH CS3 VERSION AND WINDOWS 8.1

I have just purchased Photoshop CS3 on Ebay. Unfortunately, I had no idea that it might not be compatible with windows 8.1. Before I open the package and have no way to return this product, can anyone tell me if they have been successful in uploading this program with Windows 8.1. I did find Adobe note saying that there were no known major issues ... but have read some other reviews that conflict with this information. Thanks so much for any help you could pass on. I do not want to "pay as you go" month to month for Photoshop ... would rather own an older version I am quite happy with. Thanks

Ok it's like the serial number model in that you download the actual Photoshop programs to your PC (you can install on up to two PCs or Macs for your own use). But instead of a serial number, you set up a recurring charge account, and you sign in to activate the program.
Your work can be saved anywhere on your computer just like the older serial number type. You keep your files even if you discontinue the subscription. Your files can still be opened by other programs, but if there was a feature exclusive to CC or CC 2014 you won't be able to edit it. But to answer your questions your files stay with you, Adobe doesn't see or possess any copies.
If you decide to stay on, what you get is upgrades and new versions as soon as they are released. No more upgrade fees. You get the Extended version of Photoshop with 3D and video editing features. Not bad for $10 a month.
You do get cloud storage, but only 2 GB and nothing goes there unless you upload it.
Think of it as a holding place for the files you wish to share with others.
You can get Bridge CC with the latest Adobe Camera Raw, and Lightroom for managing and editing large amounts of digital Photos.

Need help with an extended star schema.

I have the following data in spreadsheet form and I need to transpose this into an extended star schema in order to prdouce my characteristics and key figures, however I'm having a little trouble understanding where to include the Product Group in the star schema and also what to do with the Sales Doc (Invoice Number) in the sales information spreadsheet.
I need to summarise the data into the following also:
1.     Total quantity and revenue for each Channel and product group
2.     Total quantity and revenue for each Channel and product group (July 2009 to September 2009)
3.      Total Quantity and Revenue for iphone sales
So my question in short is what would the star schema look like? I'm hoping somebody can help me over this hurdle.

Potentially the issue may be the combination of actual distance and the presence of any Wi-Fi interference at the location of the AirPort Express that may be the culprit here. The bottom line is you would want the Express to be within a 25+ dB range of the Extreme to be sure that it can consistently stay connected to it.

Help with CS3 Install

Well Can anyone help Because first of all, EVERYTHING installs except adobe flash and that sucks ALOT but i also already have macromedia flash 8 pro and i wanted to upgrade to CS3 (CS3 Pro) can anybody help i am currently running XP SP3

I'm kind of having the same problem...I'm installing the creative suite 3, and it gives me an error saying that it can't install Flash CS3 because it is conflicting with Flash CS3?? What's that??

Need help with cs3 pro

About 6 months ago I hired a graphic designer to create a
bunch of banner ads for one of my websites. He completed the
initial group and then edited a few changing text and colors. He
then disappeared & left me in the lurch.

I downloaded flash cs3 and started a 30 day trial a few days
ago. All I need to be able to do at this point is change the color
schemes. I have all the finished .gif files and .swf source files.
I am specifically trying to figure out how to change the
color in the outer circle of the James Hanson banner - bottom left
banner in the above link.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

unlock all the layers, and keep clicking that outer circle
until it is editable.. I'm thinking it is under a mask, so when you
unlock all the layers, it will probably be covered by something
else, just hide that layer above it, then you'll be able to
advance.
