Help with cropping/resizing

I have a document that I needed to crop to get rid of extra white space. The document needs to be 8.5 x 11; however, when I crop it, it is naturally a smaller size. Is there any way that I can re-save this document as 8.5 x 11 or increase the size of the entire .pdf itself?

What is the size of the page to begin with?

  • [CS3][JS] Help with image resizing

    I'm still a newbie of ID scripting.
    I'm using js scripting in Indesign CS3 to make an auto-impaginator and I have a problem with images.
    I charged my contents from an xml set of tables, that I put into a fixed textFrame of the master page.
    Because of the table needs to fill multiple pages, I made a function that keep creating pages and link the textFrames so that the table continues in various pages.
    In this whole process I have some images too, that I need to resize them to fill the cell, because now they pass the parent cell.
    I found a method that looks at the bounds and resizes the image and the rectangle too, but it doesn't work always, because if a image is overflowing, it hasn't any bound and it fails, and this causes other problems in my process, so I would find another method.
    So:
    Is there another way to resize an image on-the-way while importing it? Some xml attribute or preference?
    Or some method that works also if the image is overflowing?

    These forums are pointless. Adobe must believe that other users will cut the mustard. Absolutely a waste of effort for everyone. Adobe should PAY at least a junior developer involved in the projects to monitor and help with these posts. FLEX rules yeah and thousands more do scripting than develop plug ins...

  • PSE newbie frustrated, please help with image resizing

    Hi!
    Tutorials aren't helping me, nor is trial and error. I just want to resize some photos I downloaded to my computer, then upload them to a website to use as my avatar or signature. There are specific pixel dimensions I must adhere to. I want to keep the photo in it's entirety, but when I resize it, it distorts a bit, looks fuzzy...
    I can't figure out what the heck I am doing wrong. Some pictures turn out just fine and others look really bad. I know it can be done because I've seen the same pictures I'm trying to size, being used for the same thing I want to use them for, but theirs are clear, absolutely no distortion whatsoever. The pixel dimensions I have to work with are either 100x100, or 450 pixels wide by 90 pixels high.
    I hope this made sense, I'm not sure how else to word it. Please forgive my ignorance, I've really been trying.
    Thank-you
    B

    For an avatar it’s possibly best to crop to begin with so you get a true square.
    Open the image and select the crop tool and change the aspect ratio to 1 x 1 or 5 x 5 then drag out a square and move the image around inside it or drag the bounding box borders until you have it looking as you want. Then click the green check mark.
    On the top menu click Image > Resize > Image Size and in either the height or width box type 100 px (you only need to type the dimension once the other box will change to 100 automatically. Make sure you have the bottom three boxes checked:
    Scale Styles
    Constrain Proportions
    Resample Image
    With all three checked set the bottom dropdown to Bicubic and then hit OK.
    If you want to apply some sharpening select Enhance on the top menu and choose Unsharp Mask.
    Make sure the Radius is no more than 1.5 and use the amount slider to get the image looking as you want it then save.

  • Need help with cropping

    I have taken a clip with resolution 1920x1080. I want to downsize the video to 360x202 (16:9). But I also want to crop and export only the upper right corner of the original clip as the resulting video. I have tried setting the view zoom level of the program monitor to 100% and locate the upper right part of the original video. That part was clear and sharp when previewed.
    I have tried using the scale and position of the motion effect, the camera view effect and the crop effect. But all gave a blocky or pixelated video even the resolution of the resulting video was only 360x202, not as crisp and sharp as that viewed in the program monitor.
    What effects or tools should be used to make a cropped clear and sharp low resolution video from a HD video please ?
    Sorry for my poor English.
    Regards
    jusko

    Hi, Steven, thank you very much indeed for your help. I just followed your steps and made a test zoom in video with complete sucess. I used the position/scale of the motion effect to do that. So, the trick is in creating a low resolution project in the first place. I always thought that a project should match the format and all the settings of the input video.
    May I ask which effect is best for making such a low resolution video with zoom in effect please ? As I mentioned earlier, there are "position/scale", "camera view", crop effect etc.
    Best Regards

  • Help with page resizing

    Hi all
    I'm currently building a website using Dreamweaver 8. You can
    see it at www.idl.dundee.ac.uk/~lyndon/active.htm
    as you can see i have a timeline running across the page and
    layers that pop up when the mouse is moved over them to give
    details(using show/hide layers behaviours). The problem is i have
    the width set at 100% so when the page resizes the layers are in
    the wrong places.
    If anyone can give me some pointers as to how i might get
    this to work it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    Lyndon

    The only way to get this to work with a 100% table that can
    expand on the
    page, is to place your layers inside a relatively positioned
    div that is
    inside strategic table cells, e.g.,
    <td><div style="position:relative;"><div
    id="Layer1"
    style="position:absolute; top:....
    Each layer will have to be positioned as need with regard to
    that table
    cell. Once you do that, you should be good to go.

  • Help with Crop of Imported Images - Please!

    If I crop a jpeg that I have imported from my camera, then apply a crop, the cropped image will fill the screen. However, if I import a jpeg from iPhoto or any other source (desktop, folder, etc.) and apply a crop, the cropped image will be small and does not fill the screen.
    There must be some setting that will make the resultant view of a crop from an imported jpeg fill the screen similar to the behavior of a typical camera imported image. This is driving me nuts and I've spent hours trying to figure it out.
    I realize the actual crop in either case is smaller, but I just want to view it as large as possible. There must be some hidden zoom control for imported images?
    Please help!

    Unless something is broken - doubtful - your images from "other sources" are too small to fill the screen from a dimension standpoint when they are cropped. What you are seeing is the cropped image at 100% view - meaning that's it that's all the pixels you've got.

  • Help with cropping & sorting images prior to export for print

    I have large project (wedding) within which I've sorted images into several folders (pre-wedding, church, family portraits, etc.) within which there are smart albums based on my ratings. I also have a generic "5 Star" album at the top level which contains the final images that have been adjusted and which the client has been provided with in order to choose from.
    I now have a list of print requirements from the client (image name, size, and quantity).
    I'm curious to know what the quickest way to sort and tag the images selected for print, particularly in view of there being a number of different size requests for the images which are to be printed.
    Also - I'd value opinions (based on experience) on whether I should bother cropping to size for images that are 5x7 and 8x10 (the default ratio is 2x3 at the moment).
    The bottom line is that I'm trying to minimise the amount of time I spend on print tagging and cropping prior to export, and post export sorting prior to sending off to the lab.
    Thanks,
    Paul

    To answer your questions:
    I am assuming that you want a new version of the crop size especially if you have an image/s that are required in multiple sizes like 8x10 and 5x7 the image would end up in each crop size album so you would have two versions one for each aspect ratio and doing the new version in the context of the album would make in the album pic so that the proper one will be at the top of the stack in each respective album.
    Orientation does not matter with the stamp it will work fine - if you have an issue let me know.
    with respect to the stamp - the stamp will position the crop relative to the one you lifted - if your lifted crop is in the middle then so will the stamped ones.
    As for adjustment of the crop - just click on the crop tool, the click on the browser image and arrow through the images with the crop tool open - you can drag the crop around for each one with a minimum of keystrokes.
    Try it and hit me back with issues. I do this all the time and it is about 3000x quicker than my old workflow 5 years ago. For that matter the power of albums, stacks, and stack picks for this kind of thing is fabulous, there are a million ways to use it to speed things up. Bonus is that you are not copying anything so it is virtually free from a resource perspective.
    Last but not least I would think twice before using a smart album to do this, youi really do not want the content changing in this type of album, it will not save you any time, I would use static albums in the manner that I suggested.

  • Help with Animation Resize on Tablet devices

    Hi,
    I would appreciate any help to fix this problem. I have this edge animation that doesn't resize correctly on tablet devices.
    http://www.lab2x.com/guest/Jaime/lab2x-1/
    It happens especially on vertical view of tablets.
    When I publish from edge directly it works perfect on tablets, but when I insert it to the html page I get the problem.
    Here is the animation alone and how I want it to work on tablets.
    http://www.lab2x.com/pacificdental/edge/v5/header.html
    Thanks,
    Rodrigo

    Rodrigo-
    I checked on a first gen. iPad and you are right, it does not resize.  Funny thing is, it does re-size when you close your browser to between 750px - 775px :-)
    My first thought is your script to check for tablet usage:
    <!-- Mobile Specific Metas -->
              <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1" />
              <script type="text/javascript">
                        var browser                              = navigator.userAgent;
                        var browserRegex          = /(Android|BlackBerry|IEMobile|Nokia|iP(ad|hone|od)|Opera M(obi|ini))/;
                        var isMobile                    = false;
                        if(browser.match(browserRegex)) {
                                  isMobile                              = true;
                                  addEventListener("load", function() { setTimeout(hideURLbar, 0); }, false);
                                  function hideURLbar(){
                                            window.scrollTo(0,1);
              </script>
    I'm rather new to Edge and havent gotten to making a "Tablet" sized animation yet, so I don't know if Edge created the script or you added it it.
    Since it re-sizes in a regular browser, coun ld you try switching the size based on the browser size by adding these div's to your CSS, just to see if it affects it?
    Tablet:
    @media only screen and (min-width: 481px) {
    .tablet_div {
    add around your Edge animation.
    Desktop:
    @media only screen and (min-width: 769px) {
    .desktop_div {
    add around your Edge animation.

  • Help with column resizing

    Hi,
    Relatively new to java swing...
    I have a JTable inside a JScrollPane that gets filled dynamically. What I would like to happen is to set a min column width, and then have each column be large enough to fit its largest cell (by largest cell I mean the cell in the column that has the most data to display). If this is too large for the pane, a scrollbar should come up. Right now I am using
    setAutoResizeMode(JTable.AUTO_RESIZE_OFF);but the column sizes are showing up only as big as the column headers need to be, and then for the other cells in the column i get some of my data followed by "..." It lets me manually resize the columns so that everything looks OK, but I would rather have it start out this way
    Thanks for any tips...

    but the column sizes are showing up only as big as the column headers need to be,The size of the header has nothing to do with the size of the column. The column width defaults to 75 pixels. If you want to change the size then you need to manually calculate the width of the column.
    Read the Swing tutorial on [url http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/table.html#width]Setting Column Widths. Then check out [url http://www.exampledepot.com/egs/javax.swing.table/PackCol.html]Packing a Column.

  • Need help with automatic resizing of images

    I am working with a liquid template in dreamweaver and when I insert my banner image and preview the page, the image stays the same size while the page template expands with the screen resolution.
    How can I set the image so it automatically expands with the page?

    Expanding an image in this way isn't really the best way of doing things, because depending on the image it can get very distorted when it's increased or decreased in size.  You are better off selecting a background colour and blending the image into that, so that when the browser window is increased you see the majority of the image, but on larger monitors, the image is blending into the background on either side of that image.
    There is a technique that may make this possible - I did read something about it at one point, but didn't save the URL.  However, the above method is probably the most reliable way of doing what you want.

  • Help with resizing adjacent partitions on mirrored drives - Solaris 9 V240

    Hi,
    I need some help here. I'm very new to unix administration. I am running out of space on my /var directory. I have a set of 72G disks that are mirroring each other. The /var is mounted on /dev/md/dsk/d5 which has only 262M available out of 5.8G. Meanwhile the partition adjacent to it /dev/md/dsk/6 which has the /opt/app directory mounted has 5.8G available out of 13G.
    Is it possible for me to take space from the slice 6 and give it to slice 5? How do I do this without loosing any data?

I would then have to create the mirror metattach for that partition and then would I just unmount /var and remount it on the new /dev/md/dsk/d7? I'll need help with that. Then what would I do with the unused d5?
    A step by step response would be great! Thanks!

  • Help with sequence settings in final cut for project with 2 different frame rates.

    I really need help with this one! I finished editing a wedding video and realized after exporting that it was filmed in two different frame rates. This has happened before but I converted the footage to match and fixed the problem. In this case, the footage is part 30fps and part 60fps. The majority of it was filmed in 30fps. I cannot convert the 60 to 30 without the slow motion effect which I do not need so I have to find a way to burn this to a DVD without it looking messed up! The video was shot with two Canon 7ds if that helps anything. The first sequence I set at 29.97 and exported as a quicktime movie and all the footage filmed in 60 looked perfect and the footage in 30 looked jittery. Then I tried the sequence at 59.97 and it switched. The footage filmed at 30 looked good and the 60 was cropped in. I am so confused! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks for your help Michael! The frame rates are 29.97 1920 x 1080 and 59.94 1280 x 720. I did a control click on the clips in final cut and viewed the item properties/format to find this info. The Canon 7d is a DSLR but we use it for video. As for my workflow, the first thing I do is import the footage onto my computer and then drag the clips into mpeg streamclip. I choose apple prores 422 and uncheck the interlaced box. Once this is done I import the .mov files into final cut. The sequence automatically sets itself to whatever clip I drag in first so it originally set as 29.97. When I finished editing wedding video, I export it to a quicktime movie and choose whatever settings match the sequence, in this case apple prores 422 1920 x 1080 30p. Once that is done I use iDVD to burn the discs.
    I knew something was wrong when I watched the quicktime movie and all the 30fps footage was jittery and most of the cross dissolves looked strange. That's when I figured out the footage was at two different frame rates. What I don't understand is why whatever the sequence is set at in final cut, the clips of the opposite frame rate look right but the clips set at the matching frame rate don't???

  • Help with Reconnecting Files

    Over this past weekend I was moving, via Relocate Masters, large numbers of images from managed status on my MacBook Pro to referenced status on an external drive (an Air Disk, to be precise). This had gone fine for thousands of images, but Sunday night I returned to the computer to find that it was completely locked up in mid-Relocate, and seemed to have been locked up for a while. I'm not sure what happened, but it seemed bad -- I couldn't get to the Force Quit dialog, or anywhere else. I powered down by holding in the power button.
    Upon resurrecting things, Aperture would not open the library. Long story shorter, I rebuilt the database and was then able to see the library contents again. But then I noticed that many files were "offline." Digging further, and using the Manage Referenced Files box, I discovered that some 3500 files need to be reconnected.
    The Reconnect All button did a little bit of magic for me, but now I've gotten to a point where using Reconnect All only reconnects one file at a time. I was renaming files as I Relocated Masters, and my fear is that this is what has caused the disconnect. *So first,* can anyone tell me that this is what has caused the problem (the problem being my apparent need to now reconnect 3400 files, one-by-one)?
    *Second, and more importantly to me, do I have any recourse beyond reconnecting one-by-one?* Again, the problem seems to me to be that the library file expects a file named image.jpg (or whatever), because the change of the file name to greatimage.jpg that occurred during Relocation did not get written to the library file.
    Many thanks for all help and suggestions.

    I hope someone else can join in with a definitive answer to your problem, but I don't believe you will be happy using the configuration you are attempting to set up.
    Having Aperture access your images via wireless is going to be very very slow, and any connection problems will be very frustrating. I have even abandoned the idea of using wireless backup of image files because it so slow.
    Perhaps someone can help with your immediate problem, but I would strongly suggest you find a way to store your referenced files locally (a firewire drive would be ideal).
    Thanks. I certainly appreciate your thought, and before trying it myself, my instinct was the same as yours. That said, until the present problem cropped up, I have to say it has been quite a good solution. My network is 802.11n, and I've noticed no real lag in accessing the files or otherwise using Aperture with a library stored as this is.
    But yes, I hope someone is able to help me get these 3400-some files reconnected short of one-by-one.
    Thank you for your comments.

  • Need some URGENT help with 3 DVD mastering issues PLEASE! :

    Hi there,
    Firstly, I am running DVD SP 3.0.2 on Mac OS 10.4.7 on a G5 Dual 2 GHz 3Gb Ram plenty of HD space...
    I am creating a DVD with: An intro sequence, a main menu, 4 sub menus, and 4 sections with around 12 chapters each.
    I am having some big problems, and a pretty stuck. I will lest them separately below, numbered. If you are able to help, please refer clearly to which number you are helping with. Any help is MUCH appreciated! Many thanks!!
    1. Each of the 5 menus (1 main, 4 sub) have a background video, and a separate audio track. I added the background videos by simply dragging them to the assests panel, then from there onto the menu editor window. They are created in FCP and are properly encoded. However, when I click the motion button, or use the simulator, the videos do not show up. The music plays, but all i see is plain black.
    What is going on?!?!?!
    2. I am really struggling with rollover buttons. I have custom created buttons, and I wand them to have a soft red glow around them when hovered over. HOW ON EARTH DO I ACTUALLY DO THIS??
    The buttons are in photoshop so can be exported with/without background/glow in any format.
    3. Is it possible, once I have got the above rollover working, to have an image to the right hand side of my buttons which changes with the the button rollover. i.e. hover over button 1, see image 1. hover over button 2, image changes to image 2.
    PLEASE PLEASE give any help you can, I have a deadline coming up and am quite stumped. Thanks again!!

    I am still having problems regarding issue Number 1. PLEASE ANYONE HELP?!
    Sorry, I'm not sure about the motion menus. I avoid those whenever possible. But you might click on the menu in the storyline tab (whatever it's called -- the hierarchical view with the disc, tracks, slideshows, etc.) and look at the properties and see if there's anything you have to enable specifically for motion. And be sure the motion button is on on the main display/preview area, but it sounds like you already know how that works.
    For your information, here is a screen grab of the menu I am trying to create:
    http://www.redhavoc.co.uk/stuff/menu.jpg
    I think it is obvious that when a button is hovered over, I want it to glow red, and the image to the right will change to match the respective button.
    IS THIS GOING TO BE POSSIBLE????
    Yes.
    First, your menus have to be layered menus. Unfortunately, there's no way to convert non-layered menus to layered menus, so if you already have non-layered, you'll have to just delete them and create new layered menus. The button (and menu item) to create a layered menu should be right by the normal new-menu item.
    Next, the graphical work is all in Photoshop.
    Side tip: You may already know this, but I found it's best to use 640x480 for the Photoshop document. When I do text and leave it as a text object in the Photoshop file, it resizes poorly in DVDSP. So this ends up being another 720x480 vs. 640x480 square/rectangular pixel conversion thing. DVDSP plays in the 640x480 world, at least as far as the designer can see. So I keep my images at 640x480, and it doesn't have to resize, and everything looks right.
    Moving on... Set up your basic background, the part that won't change (or will have other things covering it, like for your square image).
    Then put in all the buttons and images you'll be using, each part in a separate layer. This could have fifteen buttons (you have five buttons, and there can be three versions for each -- inactive, selected, and activated versions) and five or six square images (you said one for each button, and you might want a blank default if, say, you want to add a "back" button on the menu and want some blank or default image for the square when they're on the "back" button).
    Sometimes people don't bother with a separate "active" button state, but you usually want some visual feedback that they clicked the button. Also, I usually just build the default (unselected) button into the background; that's less hassle later on, and it will just draw the selected or activated buttons over that when the user is on that button.
    Line up all your buttons and images. All the square images lined up perfectly on top of each other, all the buttons in the right places (so you'll have three buttons stacked on top of each other in each spot). Give each layer a short but quickly recognizable name, and line them up in a consistent order. (button1-default, button1-selected, button1-active, button1-squarepicture, then button2-default, ... etc.) Photoshop and DVDSP don't care, but it makes it easier for you later.
    Note that earlier versions of DVDSP won't show Photoshop layer effects. (They handle layers, just not the effects, like inner glow, outer bezel, etc.) I don't remember when they changed this, but I think it was version 4.something. So if you're using that method to make your buttons glow, you may have to flatten each selected or active button layer, and you may even need to create a dummy blank layer underneath it first to give it something to flatten onto.
    Save the file as a standard Photoshop file (.psd). Drag the file onto your DVDSP layered menu and set it as the background.
    Now, in DVDSP, create all your buttons. Just drag boxes over/around the button pictures you have. Feel free to make them extra-big; users won't see the actual area you've selected, and bigger areas makes it easier for people to hit them if they're using a mouse on a computer to watch the DVD. You can point the buttons to their targets now if you want, and set the end jumps on the tracks if you want. (I tend to set the end jumps on the tracks so they automatically select the button for the next track.)
    Now's the fun part, since it will actually hook everything up and should be easy if your naming layer order were consistent. Click on the layered menu (in that hierarchical view) and look at the properties window. (Sorry I can't remember the technical names for all these windows; I'm doing this all from memory. So feel free to ask more questions if you can't find what I'm talking about.) One of the properties tabs should have a grid of checkboxes with a list of your layers. Make sure the background is checked for all of the states. Then check the layers you want to show for each button state, as well as the corresponding square image to show for each.
    Again, I'm doing this from memory, and I can't remember exactly how things are listed in that grid. But I remember it keeps your layers in the same order you put them in the Photoshop file and shows you those names, so it should make it easy to go down the list and check the right boxes.
    And another side tip: You can update the Photoshop file, but once you've put it in DVDSP, if you change the layer order, it will screw up the check boxes you checked. It always shows you the layer names correctly, but it keeps the checkboxes in DVDSP simply assigned to the layer number, so the fifth layer will keep the same checkboxes even if you juggle them so some other layer is now the fifth layer. So if you do juggle the layers in Photoshop, go back and fix the checkbox list in DVDSP.
    I put a sample Photoshop file based on yours in
    http://dan.black.org/layered-menu-sample.psd
    It's quick and dirty, but shows the layer layout, and you should be able to drop it on DVDSP to play with. (I also won't leave it there forever, maybe a few weeks, so anybody reading this in a month or more probably will get a 404 for that url.)
    Again, doing this from memory, so feel free to ask if anything doesn't work or doesn't make sense.
