Help with CSS styling please

Hi
I would like to create some underlined headings but would
like the line under the heading to be longer than than word itself.
Is there a command in CSS that allows this? Thanks. Mike

There is no such style in CSS. However, instead of an
underline, you could
try using a bottom border, which *may* give you the effect
you want. But -
to make the underline significantly wider than the word, you
would need to
add padding to the text box containing the word, and that
will also space
the word away from its adjacent words, most likely not giving
you the
desired effect.

  • Help with CSS; styling links

    I have a
    #wrapper
    #content
    #content a:link (coding that works fine)
    ..and inside content I want to create some 'buttons' so tried this
    #buttons
    #buttons a:link (different code)
    In Dreamweaver it looks fine and dandy,(left side DW, rightside is a preview)
    but when I test in a browser, fail.
    Uploaded it to the server, fail.
    #content a:link, #content a:visited, #content_full a:link, #content_full a:visited {
        color:#030;
        text-decoration: none;
        line-height: 120%;
    #content a:hover, #content_full a:hover {
        color:#063;
        text-decoration: underline;
        line-height: 120%;
    Basically just turns the links green, with an underline when you hover. There are two types of content divs, one stretches the width of the wrapper... the other allows for a side bar.
    Then:
    #buttons {
        background-color: #FFF;
        margin-top: 8px;
        clear: both;
    #buttons a:link {
        color: #FFF;
        font-size: 18px;
        line-height: 120%;
        background-color: #069;
            margin: 5px;
        text-decoration: none;
    And that fails.
    Thoughts?

    Well, it failed again BUT once again, I think i have the solution. I added code for all states of a:link for the new 'button' (i.e. a:hover, etc..) THAT seemed to fix it.

  • Help with access control please

    So I'm trying to set up my brother's PSP to the wirless network through MAC address timed access. What I want to do is make it so that he can only access it through certain times in the day. I'm having troubles with actually getting it to work. Everytime I set it up, the PSP only show's up as a DHCP client and not a Wireless client. I tried the option panel with the add wireless clients through the first try access. Could I get some help with this issue please? Thanks!

    Just to calm your fears... There is no conspiracy. If someone had an answer or a suggestion they would post it.

  • Help with css float

    I have a layout that I need help with please. The bright green panel is going to have a Flash file inserted but I need it to sit inside the detailsWrapper div, which needs to stretch to allow this to happen. The content is being generated through php modules and the details will vary in length, so I'm having difficulty styling this. I'm sure it's something obvious but I need help please!
    Here's the link: http://www.designermagic.co.uk/hobarts/reapitDetails.php?clearcache=true&pagevars=1-bedroo m-property-for-sale-in-London-N22-hobrps-ALE090002

    Your CSS code could use some tidying up. It's kind of a mess.  See details below.
    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?profile=css21&warning=0&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww. designermagic.co.uk%2Fhobarts%2FreapitDetails.php%3Fclearcache%3Dtrue%26pagevars%3D1-bedro om-property-for-sale-in-London-N22-hobrps-ALE090002
    These statements are redundant.
    html, body, div, span, applet, object, iframe, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, {
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
        border: 0;
        outline: 0;
        font-size: 100%;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;

        margin-left: 0px;
        margin-top: 0px;
        margin-right: 0px;
        margin-bottom: 0px;
    Try changing the above code to just this.  * = the universal selector.
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    border: 0;
    font-size: 100%;
    outline-style:none; /**outline is not on by default so unsure why you need this**/

  • Help with Validation Problem Please

    I don't understand this validation and don't know how to fix it. I have checked my other websites and they seem fine. I don't think I have done anything different The link for the website ishttp://www.greenpatchwebsites.com/pow/index.html
    and the validator is http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=www.greenpatchwebsites.com%2Fpow%2Findex.html&charset=%2 8detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0
    Please can you help.
    Thank you very much in advance.

    Thanks for that. I have tried it on a new page: http://www.greenpatchwebsites.com/pow/newtest.html and here is the validator :
    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=www.greenpatchwebsites.com%2Fpow%2Fnewtest.html&charset= %28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0&No200=1- unfortunately loads of errors
    I also tried the recommended template:
    Use the following markup as a template to create a new XHTML 1.0 document using a proper DOCTYPE. See the list below if you wish to use another document type.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
            "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">

         <meta http-equiv="Content-Style-Type" content="text/css" />
    </head>
    <body>
         <p>… Your HTML content here …</p>
    </body>
    </html>
    but was getting errors with that. As you can tell, I need serious help with this. Which doc type should I be using
    and why doesn't Dreamweaver just do it for you when you select one?
    Thanks very much again in advance.

  • Help with CSS Page Layout

    I guess I am "old school" in that I have always used tables
    to lay out my web pages. I decided I must learn to do it with CSS,
    but I'm having a terrible time (and it shouldn't be so hard!). I
    understand how to define the styles, add divs, etc. Here's what I'm
    having trouble with:
    How do I specify the normal page width to be 800 pixels,
    however I want it to be relative to the browser (i.e., 100% of 800
    pixels).
    I understand the "float" tag, but if I have a right-hand
    sidebar, I can't seem to get the text to the left (in a div called
    "maincontent") to stop at the sidebar and wrap to the next line. I
    tried specifying "Hidden" as my textbook suggests, but that has no
    effect.
    I can easily do all of this with tables, so do I really need
    to abandon them?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jane,
    I'll try to answer all your questions, then a tip or two to
    stop the main
    content from dropping when the browser window size is
    reduced.
    - " I didn't realize that
    margin-top: 0px;
    margin-right: auto;
    is not the same as margin: 0px auto;
    That's right.
    margin: 0px auto; is actaully saying make the top margin 0,
    the right margin
    auto, the bottom margin 0 and the left margin auto.
    It's just CSS shorthand.
    For example, you might have:
    margin-top: 10px;
    margin-right: 20px;
    margin-bottom: 5px;
    margin-left:15px;
    You could just use margin: {10px 20px 5px 15px;}
    Think of a clock to remember the directions.
    12:00 top, 3:00 right, 6:00 bottom, 9:00 left.
    If any of the values are the same, you can shorten it more.
    For example, if top is 10, right is 20, bottom is 5 and left
    is 20, it's
    margin: {10px 20px 5px;}
    If the 4th location (left) is missing a value, it makes it
    the same as what
    you have for right.
    If top and bottom are 10px, and left and right are 20px,
    it's:
    margin {10px 20px;}
    If the last two positions ( bottom and left vlaues ) are
    missing, then it
    will use the top value for the bottom, and the right value
    for the left.
    What auto right and left is doing is subtracting your content
    width (the
    container width) from the browser window width, and then
    dividing the
    remainder in 2 and applying each value to each side of the
    container.
    -"I found that they all took on the font of the maincontent
    and I had to fix
    them
    individually. "
    The only text that should be Time is the text in your main
    content, where
    you have that font defined. Everything else should be Arial
    if you define
    the body as such. I'll post a link at the end of this.
    - "I put my bold sentence (Friendship, Fun, etc.) in h1, but
    I had to change
    the
    color & size, so that added another style element. "
    You don't need to give the h1 a class. You can actually just
    style the h1
    tag:
    h1 {
    margin: 10px 10px 2px;
    font-size: larger;
    color: #941238;
    You can only use h1 once on a page.
    You can use h2, h3, h4, etc, as many times as you would like,
    and you can
    style these just like the h1 style above.
    - "I don't quite understand the .rightsidebar p { and
    container p{
    I am assigning the spacing to the <p> tag? What exactly
    is that doing?"
    That is saying, give all the <p> tags inside the
    rightsidebar container the
    follwing style.
    So, in this example:
    .rightsidebar p {
    font-size: 18px;
    margin: 2px 10px;
    it's saying give all the <p> tags in this container a
    size of 18 and margin
    of 2px top and bottom, and 10px left and right.
    It's a lot easier than giving a class to every <p> tag
    - "I also don't quite understand the .clear {
    Why not just choose clear:both on the next section <div
    class="footer">"
    You could, if the footer was in the container. It just needs
    to be the final
    element before the close of a container that contains the
    float(s).
    -Do you use the <div class="container"> technique all
    the time?
    Yes, most of the time. I usually put everything in it, and
    use the
    margin:0px auto; to center it.
    That way, I don't have to try to get a number of different
    elements to align
    with the right and left sides by applying values to all of
    them, which can
    get tricky quickly.
    -"If you'll indulge me one more question, I wonder if it's
    possible to put a
    graphic (say, of a putting green) underneath my
    rightsidebar? I would want
    the sidebar to lay on top of the putting green for an
    interesting artistic
    touch.
    Yes, you can give that div a background image. You just need
    to make the div
    the same size as the image so you see it all (or vice-versa).
    Now, to make that maincontent not drop like it does you can
    remove the width
    in the CSS. Now it will expand over to the left edge of the
    rightsidebar.
    You can control how close it gets by giving the right sidebar
    a bigger left
    margin. The point is, with no width assigned, the maincontent
    will shrink
    down to the longest word in it before it drops.
    Here's what it looks like:
    http://tnsgraphics.com/test2.htm
    Let me know if you have any questions.
    Take care,

  • Help with CSS & Firefox

    Could anyone help with the query below. I posted this last
    friday but never
    got a reply. The original message that i posted is also
    below. It might be
    easier to read from the bottom up.
    Thanks
    James
    ----------------------------------->
    Thanks for your reply.
    I've changed my code as you suggested & now the content
    div is coming about
    half way down the page- so were getting somewhere. There are
    floated
    elements so I have added the 'clearthefloats' div. There are
    no absolutely
    positioned elements, but I tried making the content div
    position:relative
    anyway but it had no effect.
    I also added some text into the 'clearthefloats' div so i
    could see where it
    was on the page & it is halfway down the page itself,
    even though it is
    below the other elements in the page.
    Thanks,
    James

    Yes I have tried setting the height. It should wrap round the
    whole page
    content not just the graphic. I tried setting the height till
    it looked
    right in firefox but then in ie there was about 150px extra
    at the bottom.
    (this was on another page which is a lot longer). Plus if i
    set the height
    to be right on the homepage, the other pages will be wrong. I
    would have to
    use seperate style sheets, or give the div's different id's.
    Surely there is a way to get the div that all the contents
    are in, to simply
    wrap round them.
    Thanks

  • Help with photo albums Please

    Hi, i really need some help with my pictures, I've only got a very basic understanding of how my phone works and have somehow put a load of albums on my phone when i plugged it into the computer-I want to delete some of them off the phone but cannot work out how to do it, when i plug my phone in i can find the photo tab but cannot actually see the pictures and can't see any delete button!!! Please can someone help me, basic explanations would be gratefully recieved xxxx

    The photo sync is one way: computer to phone. To remove photos, synced to your phone, remove the check marks next to the albums/folders under the photos tab in itunes & hit the apply/sync button. They will be removed from your phone. You cannot delete photos that were synced to your phone, directly on your phone. The easiest way to manage photos synced to your phone is to create albums or folders on your computer. Move whatever photos you want on your phone into these albums/folders & then select them under the photos tab in itunes to sync to your phone. You can then remove or add photos to these various albums/folders on your computer & the itunes sync process will update your phone every time you sync.

    I have no idea what you mean by "sliding around", but could
    it have
    something to do with your missing old_break.css file?

  • Help with button code please?

    I am a novice and have just completed my first animated movie. I need help with action script.
    The movie is currently looped and I have created and invisible button the size of the frame with the intention that a user can click on the movie image to stop it and on second click continue the movie from where it stopped.
    I have used the AS event handler method to stop the movie. I have tested it and it works. But I cannot figure suitable code to restart the movie.
    Two questions;
    1. am I going about the task the right way? (should I use two buttons, one stop, one start)?
    2. if my approach is feasible, can anyone give me the correct AS to re-start the movie and put me out of my misery please?

    you can use the following after changing "yourbutton" and "yourmovieclip" to use suitable instance names:
    yourbutton.onRelease=function(){
    if(!this.toggle){
    yourmovieclip.stop();
    } else {
    yourmovieclip.play();
    this.toggle=!this.toggle;

  • Help with Required fields-PLEASE

    I have been attempting to get help with a required field and one of the forum helpers said he got it to work for me but I cannot and I have not been able to get any more responses from him to help me further.
    I am attempting to have a radio box when the YES is selected to require another field to be completed.  The script I was provided with is:
    getField("Location").required = (getField("Group1").value == "Yes");
    Location being the field that I require to be filled in if Group 1 is Yes.  The previous forum helper indicated that I had to have this script in both fields in Group 1 and when I do that, nothing different happens.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Please, I need to fix this right away and I will be using this java script on many other forms that I have so I need to get this done soon.
    Thank you in advance.

    Wht you want can get somewhat complicated. One way to prevent subsequent fields from being used is to set them to read-only and/or hidden. You could then use the Validate event of the text field to validate the entry and enable the subsequent fields if it is filled-in adequately. In general, you should also reset the fields whenever you hide them, so they don't contain potentially invalid data from previously being filled-in. So you could initially have the fields set to be hidden, and only unhide them if No is selected, or if Yes is selected and the required text field is filled-in.
    I realize this may not be as helpful as you had hoped for, but I can't suggest specific code without knowing more about the form.

  • Help with a routine please

    Hi experts!
    I have a requirement and I need help with an abap routine.
    I'm uploading a table from de ECC where each record contains one key figure per fiscal period (wlt01, wlt02,...wlt16). I need to have in a dso a unique key figure (called zwlt for instance) and the 0fiscper infoobject filled with the corresponding period, that is, for each record of the table, I need 16 records in the DSO with zwlt = wltXX and the fiscper = fiscyear&0&XX.
    Any help please?
    Thanks in advance.

    there are multiple ways to handle this.
    one way is to use APD to unpivot the data.
    or else you can use the following sample code to derive what you want...this code might just hint at the way to proceed.
    TYPES:
      BEGIN OF tys_SC_1,
          wlt01           TYPE P LENGTH 8 DECIMALS 2,
          wlt02           TYPE P LENGTH 8 DECIMALS 2,

          wlt04           TYPE P LENGTH 8 DECIMALS 2,
          wlt05           TYPE P LENGTH 8 DECIMALS 2,
          wlt06           TYPE P LENGTH 8 DECIMALS 2,
          wlt07           TYPE P LENGTH 8 DECIMALS 2,
          wlt08           TYPE P LENGTH 8 DECIMALS 2,
          wlt09           TYPE P LENGTH 8 DECIMALS 2,

          l_count Type n length 2.
    FIELD-SYMBOLS:

    ls_type-wlt08 = '8.8'.

    ASSIGN ls_type TO <fs_type> .

    DO 12 TIMES.
      clear: l_name.
      Concatenate 'wlt'  l_count into l_name.
      ASSIGN COMPONENT l_name  OF STRUCTURE  <fs_type> TO <result> .
      Write: / , l_name , ' = ' , <result>.
      l_count = l_count + 1 .
    ENDDO.
    hope it helps.

  • Help with UILabel subclass please

    Hello all... I have a UILabel subclass I call CustomLabel. Ive been googling and reading the apple docs this entire week to figure this out. The few examples Ive seen, I dont think Im doing it right.
    Im trying to create a subclass to use throughout my project. Every label will have these properties so I figured why not subclass. So through a lot of trial and error I ended up with this...
    CustomLabel.h
    #import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
    @interface CustomLabel : UILabel {
    @property (nonatomic) CGSize shadowOffset;
    @property (nonatomic) UITextAlignment *textAlignment;
    @property (nonatomic, retain) UIColor *shadowColor;
    @property (nonatomic, retain) UIColor *textColor;
    @property (nonatomic, retain) UIColor *backgroundColor;
    @property (nonatomic, retain) UIFont *font;
    @end
    CustomLabel.m
    #import "CustomLabel.h"
    #import "Constants.h"
    @implementation CustomLabel
    @synthesize textColor;
    @synthesize backgroundColor;
    @synthesize font;
    @synthesize shadowColor;
    @synthesize shadowOffset;
    - (id)initWithFrame:(CGRect)frame {
    if ((self = [super initWithFrame:frame])) {
    self.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
    self.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
    self.font = SMALL_CHALKDUSTER;
    self.shadowColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:0.0f green:0.0f blue:0.0f alpha:0.35f];
    self.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake (0, 2);
    self.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter;
    return self;
    - (void)dealloc {
    [super dealloc];
    @end
    I then allocate a label like so...
    ViewController.h
    CustomLabel *myLabel;
    @property (nonatomic, retain) CustomLabel *myLabel;
    ViewController.m
    myLabel = [[CustomLabel alloc] init];
    myLabel.text = @"Blah blah blah";
    I feel like Im way off on this... I must be since it isnt setting any of the properties Im trying to use in the subclass.
    I found an older post on the forums here for setting the textAlignment but for some reason I couldnt apply the same logic to mine.
    So can anyone help me with this subclass please and thank you?

    xnav... thanks a ton for pointing me to this link. Its got me closer to my end goal than I was before. Right now I have...
    CustomLabel.h
    #import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
    @interface CustomLabel : UILabel {
    @end
    CustomLabel.m
    #import "CustomLabel.h"
    #import "Constants.h"
    @implementation CustomLabel
    - (void) drawRect:(CGRect)rect {
    CGContextRef ctx = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext();
    UIColor *lineColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
    UIColor *shColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:0.0f green:0.0f blue:0.0f alpha:0.35f];
    //UIColor *bkgColor = [UIColor clearColor];
    CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(ctx, lineColor.CGColor);
    CGContextSetShadowWithColor(ctx, CGSizeMake(0, 2), self.font.pointSize / 2.0, shColor.CGColor);
    //CGRect drawRect = CGRectMake(rect.origin.x, rect.origin.y,rect.size.width, rect.size.height);
    //CGContextSetAlpha(ctx, 0) ;
    //CGContextFillRect(ctx, drawRect);
    //CGContextSetStrokeColorWithColor(ctx, [[UIColor clearColor] CGColor]);
    //CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(ctx, [[UIColor clearColor] CGColor]);
    CGContextSetBlendMode(ctx, kCGBlendModeClear);
    //CGContextAddEllipseInRect(ctx,CGRectMake(size.width-(size.width/2)-(size.width/10), (size.width/10), (size.width/2), (size.height/2)));
    //CGContextClosePath(ctx);
    //CGContextDrawPath(ctx, kCGPathFillStroke);
    //CGContextSetTextDrawingMode(ctx, kCGTextFillStroke);
    //self.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
    //[self setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
    [self.text drawInRect:self.bounds withFont:TINY_CHALKDUSTER lineBreakMode:self.lineBreakMode alignment:UITextAlignmentCenter];
    - (void)dealloc {
    [super dealloc];
    @end
    As you can see I have a couple of things commented out. LOL I still cant figure out how to make the background color clear. I also dont know if I need the dealloc in this subclass. But the other properties seem to be working like the font and line color.
    Thanks again for the link and getting me in the right direction xnav. If you can lend any more assistance on how to get that darn background color clear I would appreciate it!
