Help with Custom Sequence Settings

I'm wondering if anyone might be able to assist me with a question I have regarding custom setups and timeline rendering?
I am working on a sequence of still images (.*tiff files) in a custom timeline that I've setup to match the resolution of the 30" Apple Cinema Display (2560x1600).
Up until this point, whenever I work with high resolution (*.tiff) images in a 1920x1080 sequence, the images are often twice the resolution 3840x2160 and do not require any rendering. They automatically scale to the dimensions of the timeline and everything is just straight forward.
The problem I'm having now, is that whenever I drop a 3840x2160 image into my custom 2560x1600 sequence, the image still scale to fit the sequence, but I immediately get a solid red bar across the top of my timeline and cannot figure out why I need to render everything. All of my sequence settings are the same with the exception of the dimensions and interlacing disabled.
Here are the sequence settings:
Frame Size: 2560 x 1600 Custom
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square
Field Dominance: None
Editing Timebase: 29.97
QT Video Settings: Apple ProRes 422 (no interlacing)
If anyone knows of a way that I can setup a custom sequence such as this without having to render everything right from the start, I would greatly appreciate any tips on how to do this...
Thanks!
~Greg

My guts say, you can't. RT Extreme is the technology FCP uses to playback without rendering. It likely is only turned on for standard video resolutions. (i.e., those that are shot by video cameras or electronic cinema cameras - like RED 2k). That might be the largest you can work with without rendering. It's 2048 X 1152 for a 16:9 image... Just guessing, but bet I'm close to right here. Filling your CD though will not be a standard video size at all, because it isn't 16:9... it's 16:10 so might not be able to do what you like to see I'm afraid without rendering.

  • Help with correct sequence settings for exporting QT

    hi -- I am about to export a QT movie of a sequence in FCP. There are three different properties of clips in the sequence -- footage I shot on a Panasonic HD HMC150 was compressed with Apple ProRes422 and footage I shot on the JVCHD - can't remember model - uses the 720p24 codec. All other properties for these clips are the same.
    I also use some archival footage in the sequence was shot at 29.97 fps, 720x480, compressed using the DV/DVCPro NTSC and a different pixel aspect.
    I also use jpegs.
    Here's the question. The Sequence Settings are HDV 720p24. Do I need to change the properties for the clips that don't match the Sequence Settings BEFORE I export a QT File? Or, do I export a QT file then import it back into FCP at the 720p24 setting and export that sequence as a QT file.
    Thanks

    ok here's the info everyone has been asking for -- and, please remember, I have solved the exporting QT to make a DVD now . . . .
    The pressing issue is that, somewhere in the process -- the images that fit within the 16:9 got bigger so that less of the image is in the frame.

    I made stills from the same frames in the different sequences to show the difference between them. Unfortunately, I can't attach these images in the forum.
    So here's the sequence settings as of now for both the original and current sequences:
    Easy Setup:
    Format - HD
    Codec - HDV 720p24
    23.98 fps
    1280x720
    Sequence Settings:
    1280x720
    Aspect Ratio - hdtv 720p 16:9
    pixel: square
    compressor appleprores 422
    Field Dominance - none
    editing timebase: 23.98
    Render Codec - same as sequence codec
    Clip Codecs:
    Primarily HDV 720p24
    Some Apple ProRes 422
    Archival Footage - Dv/DVCPRO NTSC
    Okay, now here's where things start getting hairy. I read in the FCP manual today that I should convert the sequence setting to the same codec as the majority of the clips -- in this case that was 720p24. So I changed the sequence codec from AppleProRes 422 to 720p24. Then I rendered the sequence before exporting it as a QT file. -- not noticing until after I burned a DVD about the image size problem.
    Now, this evening, while I was checking the settings of the older original sequences -- trying to figure out what went wrong -- I realized that the original sequence used the AppleProRes 422 codec!! So, I converted my current sequence from the 720p24 codec BACK to Apple ProRes 422 - hoping this might solve my larger image problem -- BUT the image size stayed the same. Am I just compressing over and over again and screwing up my sequences.
    The weird thing is that MOST of the sequence copies that are not the original -- converted to the changed codec even though I had only the sequence I was changing open ---- there must be a reason for all this. I hope you all can figure it out for me. I've been spending hours at it.
    Thanks again.

  • Need Help with Clip/Sequence Settings

    Okay so I have a video with three or four sequences and all the clips are from the same tape and camera. The only problem is that about 2 or 3 clips in one sequences have black bars on the top and bottom of them (letterboxed?), only when they are on that sequence. So, I could take these clips that are i letterboxed in sequence 2, put them in sequence 1, and they are normal, no longer letterboxed. Please help, I have no idea what to do, and have been trying to fix it for hours.

    Okay I just fixed it by going to that clip in the browser and un-checking anamorphic, even though every other clip has it checked?
    Maybe someone could clear this up?
    Thanks

  • Help with Selecting sequence settings

    Hi
    I apologize for my apparent lameness. I'm new to FCP and am just about to mix my first project in HD. I have a Canon XH A1. I imported the footage a few months back and am finally ready to make my first foray into HD editing.
    The footage has been captured in 1080i50 - 1920x1080.
    So i select ASPECT RATIO HDTV 1080i - it gives me a frame size of 1920x1080
    But under that for the PIXEL ASPECT RATIO I only have the option of.....
    HD 960x720
    HD 1280x1080 or
    1440x1080
    Shouldn't this match the frame size? If not, which one should i choose? It also has an anamorphic checkbox next to it. I thought HD video was natively anamorphic?
    Please help as i've made the mistake of going ahead with incorrect settings only to find myself rocking in the fetal position moaning while chewing Big Ted's ear when it all came undone weeks down the track!
    Sorry - one last thing - I'm trying to re-mix a stack of stuff in Livetype to match my new HD settings. In FCP my pixel aspect currently is 1440x1080. When i select HD1080i50 in Livetype the pixel aspect is 1.33??? When i export it comes up as a square?
    These setting are doing my head in...can anyone recommend a course or book that might explain this to me..."A morons guide to aspect ratios"?
    I'm not even going to think about the problems i'll no doubt have when it comes to exporting this baby......does anyone really understand this or are you all being too cool to say that you, like me, are totally lost !
    Please help.

    HDV footage is actually 1440 x 1080 and should be captured at that HDV setting. The Easy Setup should be HDV - 1080i50. If you look in the "information" box below it you will see that it captures in these dimensions.
    The pixels are rectangular (wide) and when played on a TV etc. they take up the same space as 1920 pixels.
    So don't worry, everything should be fine.

    Do you even know how to nuke and re-set Photoshop's preferences, colorplak?  Your last post seems to reveal that you don't understand what I'm talking about. Here's a link you can click on:
    Preference file functions, names, locations | Photoshop CC
    To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
    Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
    Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CC Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
    Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
    Note for Photoshop 14.1 and later: If you use Generator and reset your Preferences, Generator is disabled. Choose Preferences > Plug-ins to turn it back on.
    Video: Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here.

    Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • I need help changing the sequence settings to my video

    I shot on a JVC Everio in 720x480 29.97fps. I normally shoot in 1080x420 so I know the picture quality isn't going to be AS good. Normally, when I drag my clips into the timeline Premiere changes the sequence settings for me and everything looks fine. However when I drag  this footage (the 720p) in, it becomes elongated and fuzzy.
    I've messed around with the sequence settings by using DV-NTSC widescreen 48kHz and DVCPRO50 480i NTCS widescreen. When I drag my clips in they're cropped really close and they still look a bit off when I change the image to fit the screen (DVCPRO 50 looks a little bit better).
    When I shot the video it looked crisp and clear on the monitor. I'm wondering if it looks strange because of the sequence settings and if so, what would be the best settings for this video.
    The final video is going on youtube and I would like to make it look as good as possible!
    Please let me know if you can help me out!

    However when I drag  this footage (the 720p) in, it becomes elongated and fuzzy.
    What 720p? You gave us two frame sizes. Neither of them are 720p.
    1080X420 is a very strange frame size. And you say it is normal? A 720p video is 1280X720 non-interlaced.
    Chances are very good that it is 480i video you shot with a frame size of 720X480 and it is interlaced.
    That video should be interpreted with a Pixel Aspect Ratio (PAR) of 0.9091 (rectangular pixels that are taller than they are wide) - and what that means is that it isn't 16:9 it is 4:3 and should be edited in a 4:3 sequence. If, however, Premiere Pro is seeing the footage as having a PAR of 1.0 (square pixels) then you may have to right click on the clip in the Project Panel and select Modify|Interpret Footage and set it to D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)

  • I think I need help with driver (software) settings for D110a

    I think I need help with driver (software) settings for D110a all-in-one
    Product: D110a all-in-one
    OS: Windows XP Professional
    Error messages: None
    Changes before problem appeared: None--new installation
    The quality of photo images (mostly JPG files) in printouts is awful even though the files display beautifully on the PC screen. I am using
    IrfanView software for displaying/printing. As far as I can tell, IrfanView is not the problem.
    When I print the same images on a Deskjet 5150 attached to a different PC also running XP Pro and IrfanView, the quality of the printouts is at
    least acceptable, Some would probably say good or very good.
    It's dificult to explain in words the problem with the printouts. A picture of really pretty vegetables (squashes, tomatoes, watermelon, etc) comes
    out much too red. Moreover, the red, which appears shaded on the screen, seems to be all one shade in the D110a printouts.
    Something similar happens to a view of a huge tree in full leaf. On screen, there are subtle variations in the "greenness" of the leaves. In the
    printout, all green is the same shade. In the same printout, the trunk of the tree is all a single shade of grey. It isn;t even obvious that the
    trunk is a round, solid object.
    I liken the effect to audio that disappears entirely when you lower the volume and gets clipped into square waves in even moderately loud passages.
    I don't know whether the D110a driver software permits adjusting the parameters that appear to be set incorrectly, and if adjustments are possible,
    how I would identify which parameters to adjust, how I would access them, or how I would adjust them. I'm hoping that someone can help. Thanks.
    I forgot to mention that I have used the diagnostic application and it tells me that there are no problems.

    Please refer to /etc/rc.conf on how to define a single wired

    Then I realized the way network settings should be written in rc.conf has changed. But I can't figure out how this should be done.
    Currently, my set up is the following (old way):
    INTERFACES=(eth0 eth1)
    eth0="dhcp"
    eth1="eth1 192.168.0.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"

    eth0 is on DHCP because the IP is dynamically assigned my ISP.
    eth1 has a fix IP because it's on the LAN side.
    No problem to use DHCP on eth0 with the new settings.
    But for eth1, I don't know what I am supposed to write for gateway.
    Wiki isn't clear on that one either, and it looks like many articles still refer to the old way.
    Any guidance appreciated, thanks.
    brazzmonkey,
    you can't define 2 interfaces the old way (even though I saw some tricky workaround somewhere in the forums).
    Use, f.e., netcfg:
    Comment your old lines.
    In /etc/rc.conf insert:
    NETWORKS=(Eth0-dhcp Eth1-static)
    DAEMONS=(..... !network @net-profiles ....)
    In /etc/network.d create 2 files:
    First one is named  Eth0-dhcp.
    Contents:
    CONNECTION="ethernet"
    DESCRIPTION="Whatever text"
    INTERFACE=eth0
    HOSTNAME="your hostname"
    IP="dhcp"
    DHCP_TIMEOUT=15
    Second one is named Eth1-static.
    Contents:

    GATEWAY='192.168.0.1' # your gateway IP
    DNS=('192.168.0.1') # your DNS server
    The names Eth0-dhcp and Eth1-static are not magic. They just must be the same in rc.conf and in /etc/network.d.
    Hope it helps.

    PS: netcfg must be installed.

    Hi folks,

In FF 3.6.x we've extracted the setup.exe file and with sources we deployed our customized firefox. Now in FF 4.0 there are some folder missing in the new sources. Are there any documents which explain the deployment of FF 4.0? thanks a lot

    Hello All,
    I need some help with custom tables. I have created a custom table to maintain names and I also did table maintenance generation so that the user can maintain names in this table using SM30 transaction.
    The question is, in my program on the selection screen when the user press F4 I need to display the values maintained in this custom table...
    Can anyone help me with this.
    Thanks
    Pavan

    If I understood you correctly, you have a program in which one or some of the selection screen fields refer to a custom database table field(s).
    You want to implement a F4 functionality.
    Fill an internal table with the values you want to show.
    Call the function module 'F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST' in the event AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE-REQUEST FOR MYPARAM as follows.
    call function 'F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST'
           exporting

  • Exporting multiple sequences from Premiere with Match Sequence Settings...

    If I individually select a sequence in Premiere and Export Media I have the option of checking Match Sequence Settings but with multiple sequences selected the option goes away. So I have to individually select the sequence, check the Match Sequence Settings box and add to the queue for every. darn. sequence. All I want is to export multiple sequences to Media Encoder with Match Sequence Settings (or add multiple sequences to the Media Encoder queue, same thing). Am I missing something? This seems like it would be used a lot...

    For PC users, of which I am one, the Preview Render codec in the Sequence is usually MPEG so best to avoid it. If you can actually use ProRes, then it's understandable that you'd want to "Match Sequence" if possible.

  • Help please with capture / sequence settings for DVCAM PAL 16:9

    Simple question but I'm baffled by choices for capture/sequence using FCP6 to capture 16:9 PAL DVCAM. Have tried esay set up (not enough options) and also sequence and capture settings manually too many options ) and always seem to end up with borders top and bottom, not full viewer / canvas at correct aspect ratio. Can someone tell me correct settings. I'm baffled by inclusion of 5:4 aspect ratio and whether in the compression box under advanced settings in the sequence settings bow I should select 4:3 or 16:9 and in the seq. settings box itself whether I should check anamorphic 16:9.In audio/video settings (summary tab) there's also a question about playback settings which is set to '(missing) apple firewire pal 720x568'. What's that about. Any assistance much appreciated.

    Don't over think it. There's no reason why you should have to modify a capture preset in your situation. Use the easy setup for DV PAL 48 KHz Anamorphic (assuming your footage is anamorphic and not letterboxed). If you're seeing gray bars at the top and bottom of the canvas, hit ctrl-U to have the windows automatically adjusted to the right size. If you're seeing black bars, then your footage is probably letterboxed. You should use the regular DV PAL easy setup to capture that. If the Video Playback device is set to (missing) it's because your deck or camera is not turned on, or isn't connected to the computer.

  • Custom Sequence Settings for Split Screen

    Hello all,
    FCP 6. I am doing a split screen where I am combining two 720x480 videos side by side. I did the whole project by scaling down both videos to match whatever the sequence settings were. How can I create a custom canvas/ sequence size to avoid scaling down the frames and cutting on the image quality?
    I created a custom sequence setting doubling the width to 1440 and keeping height at 480.
    Can I copy and paste the clips from the old sequence without the scaled down quality to the new sequence? How can I do that?
    If I open a new sequence is the new setting going to be in effect?
    Any other suggestions on how to deal with custom size frame/ split screen?
    Thank you!

    Dear Jim,
    Thank you for help! Does make sense. I did all like you suggested. After removing 'basic motion' and pasting into new sequence, the clips appeared big default size instead of small. I re-applied motion attribute like you said, but isn't it scaling down again since I am sizing from big to small (50%) again?
    It looks good on the screen but I am not sure about actual resolution of the clip. In clip-item properties-format I read frame size but I am not sure if this info is about the source file or the clip.
    I would like to get around this issue without scaling down (keeping the scale in motion tab at 100%).
    The way I tried to deal with the scaling and res before I got your answer, was after I changed the 'global' settings for the custom 1440x480 sequence, and after creating a new sequence, I went to sequence settings again (from top menu) and set to custom (1440x480) (with just global settings the pasted clips looked like before). After copying and pasting with removed attributes-distort, all was in the original right/left order normal size and resolution.
    The way I tried seems to meet my need (as pasting attributes-motion to all again would be complicated as the design of the project does not stick to the clearly left/right pattern but fluctuates back and forth at times and there is too many short clips).
    The only problem I have now is with the RENDER.
    After I rendered what I did to your suggested solution and mine (two sequences), the whole project shows in low res. I checked the render settings in Sequence-Render Control, and both resolution and frame rate are set to 100% so I dont know what I do wrong.
    Any suggestions??
    THANKS!!!

  • Help with custom page size support for non standard paper

    Firstly, we appreciate any support you may be able to provide, we have already thrown considerable effort at this and it has been very time consuming and frustrating.
    To support a number of business functions need to print to (non standard) continuous and mulitpart paper on a dot matrix printer. The (test) Mac is a 10.4.11 G4 laptop, the printer is an Oki Microline 520 (9 pin 80 column, IBM Proprinter, Microline or Epson FX personalities with a parallel interface) which has been networked via a HP JetDirext Ex Plus print server. That part appears to be operating correctly.
    We have tried a number of drivers / printer personalities with varying levels of success:
    ESP / EPSON 9-Pin Series CUPS v1.1 / Epson FX personality
    ESP / OKIDATA 9-Pin Series CUPS v1.1 / Oki Microline personality
    Ghostscript / epsonc / Epson Dot Matrix Foomatic PPD / Epson FX personality
    Ghostscript / ibmpro / IBM ProPrinterII Foomatic PPD / IBM Proprinter personality
    Ghostscript / okiibm / Oki Microline IBM compatible 9 pin Foomatic PPD / IBM Proprinter personality
    There were no appropriate drivers in Gutenprint (5.2.3 version) The most successful is the okiibm / Oki Microline IBM compatible 9 pin settings, it can print A4 and honors the Printer Features Resolution settings in the print dialogue.
    Q1: Should we see anything in the Printer Info / Installable Option, it is always blank ?
    The issue is custom page sizes, we can manage / add Custom Pages Sizes via the Page Setup / Paper Size interface and they draw on the screen OK but they do not work at the printer (various issue at the printer such error messages, junk printing and wrong orientation):
    Q2: Are we heading in the right direction or is there a better way to handle this ?
    Q3: Would 10.5 solve all our problems, are the print drivers any better ?
    Q4: Is this the correct way to specify custom page sizes, is this all we need to do ?
    Q5: Is so how do we get the driver to respect the size, do we need another filter or something ?
    Q6: Is it possible to add (by hand) custom page sizes to the ESP drivers or Foomatic PPD files so they they appear as a "standard" offering in the Page Setup / Paper Size interface ?
    Sorry for the long / complicated post and thanks in advance for any advice / assistance.

    Testing on 10.5.7, Tried both Oki 9-Pin Series 1.3 / Microline personality (no joy) and Epson 9-Pin Series 1.3 (this is a much better driver than 1.1) / Epson FX personality but not much joy with custom page sizes,
    The Oki 9-pin Series 1.3 and the Epson 9-Pin Series 1.3 should produce the same results. The only difference in the PPDs is the printer model name.
    After some testing, I find that the output is not the same despite the two PPDs being virtually identical. I did spot in the CUPS source code for the rastertoepson filter that there is some model name matching for Epson printers. Thus I can see where the output using the Oki 9-pin PPD could be different than when using the Epson 9-pin PPD.
    but again once I imbedded the page size into the ppd some (but frustrating) luck. I can get it to respect the paper orientation and it prints well but I could not get the form length to work properly. At best over a print run of 7 labels it would creep up the label by about 0.1 inches / 2 mm.
    Just for the fun of it, I made some additions to the Epson 9-pin 1.3 PPD. All I can say is that I could print a job to file. I have no way to know what it would look like on paper.
    I did find that using a custom paper size did add some unwanted margins to the output bounding box. Putting the custom page size into the PPD seemed to get around that issue.
    I added the following lines to the Epson 9-pin PPD 1.3--
    <pre style="overflow: auto;font-size:small; font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; color: #222; background: #ddd; padding: .3em .8em .3em .8em; font-size: 9px;">*PageSize Label1/Label1: "<</PageSize[288 107.8]/ImagingBBox null>>setpagedevice"
    *PageRegion Label1/Label1: "<<PageSize[288 107.8]/ImagingBBox null>>setpagedevice"
    *ImageableArea Label1/Label1: "0 0 288.00 107.80"
    *PaperDimension Label1/Label1: "288.00 107.80"</pre>
    This adds a paper size with the 4 inch (288pt) width and 1.5 inch (107.8pt) height. That represents the 1.4 inch label and the 0.1 inch gap between labels. I set 0pt margins except for the bottom where is set the 0.1 inch (7pt) gap as the bottom margin.

  • Problems with custom paper settings

    I have a C3135 all in one printer.  I am trying to print invitations that were bought at Hallmark.  Hallmark.com/templates  invitation:  prt1132.  So I go and add the custom paper settings and do all that and when i go to print it pops up that something is outside the print margines.  I go double check everything and under page set up and printer set up everything looks like it is supposed to.  The invitation is a 5 5/16 x 5 5/16.  So I am putting a custom paper size of 5.31x5.31 and then the template says I should have a header of 1 3/16 a footer of 1/2" right and left margins of 1/2".  so I am putting a header at 1.19 and the rest set to .5.  I don't know what I am doing wrong.  It is something stupid I know it and I can't tell you how FRUSTRATING it has become, I have worked at this for three nights.  Please help.....

    I have had the same problem, and with the same result; Adobe Tech Support can't help or fix, after 15 hours on phone, Level 2 support. It is a software bug Adobe has, and can't seem to fix.  I just upgraded to Lightroom CC, and my problem migrated with the upgrade.  I print in Photoshop fine.
    If you found an answer, I would appreciate  knowing how to do it!
    Thanks
