  • Satellite L300-1EF - Black screen on boot

I have problem with my Toshiba Satellite L300-1EF that appeared suddenly, I didn't have any problem or warning before.
When I start my laptop, I saw the Toshiba logo, and at the bottom saying Press F2 to Enter BIOS, and F12 for boot menu and after that, all I saw is a black screen with a line [*_* ] at the top left corner.
I rebooted and tried to enter the BIOS or the boot menu, but noting a had the same screen again. I can open the CD-rom tray, and when i start the HDD light blinks, then stays for 2-3 seconds, and then disappears.
    Help will be appreciated.

    Hello
Have you tested an external monitor on the notebook? So you can determine if the screen is black due a faulty internal monitor or mainboard/graphic card.
    Check this!!!
But I think you will need help from a notebook technician. It could be a hardware issue and notebook disassembling isnt so easy and should only be done from professional technicians.

  • Satellite L300-1AS - Where to get boot disks?

    Hi,
I have managed to misplace my boot disks for my Satellite L300-1AS, anyone got any idea where i can buy a new one?
    Thanks

Yeah... you can order original disc by toshiba directly but before you do this check if HDD recovery option is available. If yes install OS using this option so you dont need to order recovery disc.

My windows is 7 x64, drivers updated yesterday. Can anyone help me ?

    > Before windows reinstalation with older version drivers worked fine, but only sometimes it wasn't working.. and now it doing nothing all the time.
It looks like a driver update lead to malfunction. so, reinstall OS or restore OS to earlier point. By the way, is it listed in device manager?

  • Help with daughters 366mhz ibook

Hello. I'm in the process of switching to Mac after years of crashing on windows. I'm not sure how the mac software works.
I recently bought my daughter an indigo ibook (366mhz, 10gb, 320ram) It came loaded with OS X. But no Safari. It only came loaded with Windows Explorer. The Explorer crashes alot, about 1 out 3 times it's used.(I hate windows) Can I get the Safari somewhere? I've looked and cannot find anything but updates. Or can I buy it, and where would I find it?
Also some of the websites my daughter loves most, requires a flash plugin. Where do I find one of those?
Last, now that I've decided to switch I feel a little lost with how to do stuff on apples. Is there a good book that I should read. I just bought myself a 2.0 macbook, my 17 year old daughter a 500mhz ibook, and my 10 year old the 366mhz ibook, all of them running OS X.
    Thanks alot. Mike

    Mike,
Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
As Troy says Safari isn't available for such an old version of OS X. In fact very little software will work with OS X 10.0.4. Back when 10.0 was released OS 9 was still fully supported. Only when OS 10.2/10.3 came out a few years back did OS X really become credible. Getting Flash plug-ins or any software will be tough for 10.0.
To that end you need to look at buying a new version of OS X. The good news is that the iBook 366MHz Indigo will support the very latest version of OS X - Tiger (10.4.8) although you may want to just install Panther (10.3.9) as it's a little less intensive. Cheap versions of Panther can be obtained from Apple Rescue. As your 10 year old is undoubtedly in education you can buy Tiger (10.4) at the educational price on the Apple store online - follow the links to the Education store from here. Once you've installed Panther or Tiger you'll find Safari installed and the Flash will just work.
The cost neutral option would be to download Flash and try to find another Web Browser (see the ones in red) that may work on such an old OS.
You may want to read the Wikipedia entry to understand exactly why Mac OS versions 10.0.0 to 10.1.5 were not so good.
Troy, for your information: when you load Apple's Sofwtare Update from the Apple Menu - it connects you to the Internet to get updates.
    Mike,

  • Need help with my satellite a105 not sure what is wrong

I am not sure what is wrong but I think my laptop has viruses and I can not even update my virus software.
When I go to google and type in anything, say I type in virus protection it takes me to the search results but when I click on any of the sites I get redirected to other search pages. I can not get to any page even if I type it directly in the address bar.
I do not have a recovery disk that I know of because I was just going to reformat. Any ideas of what I can do?  a computer guy wants $125.00 to fix it.
    thank you
    Denise

The problem is that, a lot of things work themselves deep into the Registry.  Clearly you have some kind of click hijacker on your system if all your links are going places you don't want.
OK, so you can try a couple of things.
First, figure out if there is a way to update your anti-virus without doing it from within the program.  It may be possible to download the update files on your other computer and burn them to CD.  I would not recommend any method other than a CD-Rom.  If you use a USB flash stick you may transfer the infection back to your other computer.  If that's not possible...
Secondly, you can download a program called Hijack This on your other computer.  http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis  It will tell you what is running on startup, what kind of browser helper objects (BHO's) you have in your browser, etc.  If you can get this installed and run, post the log here, that will be useful to getting it fixed.

  • Help with iphone update to 7.0.4 - wont restore or leave the connect to itunes screen

    Hello,
I am currently overseas in Thailand and decided to try to update my iso from 6 to 7. Initially I went through settings>software update with a strong connection to wifi - it downloaded on my phone but then instead of updating came with the screen connect to itunes (I am thinking because there wasnt enough space on my iphone?). I have now connected it to a computer with the most updated version of itunes.
The screen on itunes looks like this:
    IPhone Recovery Mode
Your iphone software is up to date, iTunes will automatically look for an update again on the 24/2/2014.
The two buttons below say "check for update (grey)" and "restore iphone (can click)" - I have clicked restore iphone and it proceeded to download iphone software update (1.12GB) - once downloaded nothing changes, i cannot apply the download to my iphone and still my iphone has the connect to itunes screen - I have done this twice and nothing has changed.
I would really appreciate any help or advice on what is happening, and why it cant restore my iphone -
Apple tech geeks encouraged to respond!!! please!!! I really need to have my iphone working again.
    Thankyou in advance
    Elyssa
At all stages I have tried holding the circle button and top button to reset iphone but nothing changes!

Put the iPhone in DFU mode, (Google how to put iPhone in DFU mode).
Shift+Restore if using PC, Option+Restore for Mac, point to already downloaded firmware. You may have to un-hide folders to see the .IPSW file

  • Help with iPod 3G... firmware won't boot anymore... please help!

I own an iPod 3G since August 2003.
    It always worked well...
but a few days ago I went to turn it on (after not having turned it on for 3 weeks) and it booted, because the Apple logo appears, but it just won't go in!
So I get the Apple logo all the time, until the battery's flat!
After the battery got flat, I tried recharging, but all it does is run the Apple logo again (but I'm pretty sure it does recharge, even though the bar doesnt appear).
I can still put the iPod on Diagnostic Mode... that still works, but not the actual iPod firmware.
I've tried connecting it to the computer too, but nothing happens, Windows says that the USB device wasn't detected.
    Please help me!
ps: i did an HDD Scan and after about 5 minutes it said HDD Pass (or something like that)
i did a USB disk scan and it kept scanning and after 30 minutes nothing changed so I gave up (the ipod was really heating up)
windows just recognizes that there's a device connected, but doesnt recognize the device
    What is wrong?

  • Vista Recovery Help - Satellite L300-149

    Hi all!
Have tried numerous places and can't find the answers I'm looking for, so here I am.
My nephew has a Toshiba Satellite L300 - 149 that won't boot up past the Windows Vista log in screen.
I want to do a full system restore on it (ie. back to factory settings) .
Now, it was shipped without recovery discs as seems to be the norm these days so, after much seraching I found the directions for pressing either the F8 and the zero key on boot up.
Now.... F8 brings up a menu (zero key does nothing) but the menu (Advanced Options or something) DOES NOT include the option to repair the system. It brings up a list of other things including....
    ENABLE BOOT LOGGING
    ENABLE VGA MODE
    LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION
    DIRECTORY SERVICES
    DEBUGGING MODE
    DISABLE AUTO RE START
There are a couple of other options too, but not a one that offers a complete recovery.
Can anyone shed light on how I can do a full restore via the HDD, or whether this model even supports the option? (There's been absolutely no tampering with the OS since it was purchased.) Failing that, where can I get restore discs from?
    thanks
    Bear

It was a preinstalled Vista - the laptop came via Carphone Warehouse and T-Mobile on one of their deals. It has the sticker on with the key code so it's all legit.
My nephew hadn't created any recovery discs himself, and I didn't think to when he purchased it a couple of years ago.
There's nothing on it that can't be replaced so a full HDD recovery that overwrites everything isn't an issue.
Thing is, I've followed all the instructions I can find and so far none of them have worked, and the "Repair Your Computer" option after pressing F8 is *definitely* not there when I get to that point. If it was, I'd have used it.
Guess I'll have to hunt around for available HDD Recovery discs.
Thanks for your responses folks :)

Do I need to install Windows XP 32bit or install Windows 2000 or any hardware upgrade (memory ... whatever)? I don`t want be disappointed by TOSHIBA!
    Ill appreciate any HELP!

    Hi buddy,
Can you be a little bit more detailed, please? What do you understand with very slow?
How long it takes to startup Windows?
How long it takes to start an application?
I have to say that Windows XP 64bit wasnt popular and there is no official support from Toshiba for this OS. If you want to use Windows XP, I can recommend installing the 32bit version.
Have you tested your notebook with factory settings? Does it work properly with preinstalled OS from Toshiba?
Im also Satellite L300 owner and I use the preinstalled Windows XP 32bit from Toshiba. Im very satisfied with this notebook, its pretty fast and need few energy. :)

  • Satellite L300 - T2FTP Windows sockets initialization failed

After Login I get the following message:
    T2FTP Windows sockets initialization failed
At the same time the system gives a message that it has found a new unknown hardware device and the driver should be installed.
Before I did NOT add any new hardware device.
Clicking the Start Button results only in a message: Windows Explorer does not react.
It is impossible to call any other routine.
    Unfortunately I don't find my Recovery-CDROM.
Is there any chance to save my system?
    Toshiba Satellite L300, Model PSLB8E
    Windows VISTA-32 bit

    Hi
I think its operating system issue something, somewhere was going wrong
I agree with Jeka. The Vista reinstallation would be the easiest and fastest way to get rid of this problem.
If didnt get the recovery disk because the OS was preinstalled and there was an tool which allows you to create an own recovery disk.
You should be able to recover the unit using HDD recovery
Restart the notebook, press F8 and choose repair my computer.
    Then choose Toshiba HDD recovery.
This would recover the OS again.

Hi guys needed help right now just yesterday my windows 8 wont boot up and gives me bsod at startup! (look at the pic)

Pic when starting windows in safe mode

    Hi kinghamster678,
Can we get into the recovey mode ?Have you got a installation media or a recovery disk ?
Resettting the machine is the last option and we will lose all the data.We can try to boot from the installation media or a recovery disk. Then we can choose the recovery mode to have a repair.
    "Startup Repair " ,"System Restore".
