I would like suggestion on how to delete two items in the Finder. They are listed under 'Shared'
I have to iMac OSX Yosemite. Can you help?
They do not have access to your computer. They are broadcasting sharing services to your network, and your computer is detecting them and showing them to you in the sidebar. This is your computer accessing them, and not the other way around. The first is your Epson printer on your network, which has network printing capabilities that it is broadcasting. The other name is too generic to figure out, but is likely a similar networked device, and can be your router, a scanner, printer, or any other such device.
Configuring the systems to prevent this would be a matter of accessing their setups according to their manufacturers' directions (either by way of a utility program, or a Web page that you log into), and then seeing if there are various network services on them that you can disable to prevent the broadcasting of these services on your network. Unfortunately this is not always possible to do, at least without disabling wanted features (like being able to print via the network instead of using a USB cable), so in general your best bet is to simply ignore these items, or hide them if you do not want to see them.

It would appear under the organizer tab that the photos are organised in the lowest folder in the folder structure within Windows Explorer. How can I use the Windows Explorer structure to organise the photos within Elements.In a situation such as yours, I tend to consolidate items into folders so I have folders of nice workable numbers of images, somewhere between 20 and 200 images. Now, whatever, once you've imported, do your moving within LR, not the OS! I will select all in a folder and drag into a folder a level or two or three above, and then delete the newly empty subfolders. I hope this helps a bit!

Can anyone please help with a problem I'm having with icloud email. I have a number (not all) of messages in junk mail and no matter what I do I can't seem to delete them. I delete them, they are gone, but when I come back they are back again but any other messages I might have deleted at the same time are deleted.
Open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Mail then reselect it.
Give iCloud a few minutes to re sync your Mail. -

I am trying to pull the records with more than 2 entries, and having more than 6 hrs difference between max date and min date. When I am trying to execute this I am getting an error at "(max(a.dt) - min(a.dt))* 24*60*60 > 360".
any ideas how can I pull the records more than 6 hrs?

"hsn-waltev1" This has showed up in my Finder window under Shared items... Anyone know what this is.
Right clicking gives me two choices 'Open in new tab or Get Info' Clicking get info opens a window with the name as above says the Kind is a PC with continual fetching for more info. Finder window has a picture of an old Monitor with a blue screen. Clicking on it says Not Connected, I can't delete it or do anything with it.
Any ideas?

Can see UnMHT with 3.6.18 but can't find it under 5.0.1!!!
I frequently use UnMht to create MHT files. I think FireFox and UnMht are the only properly working combination on the net which is great for FireFox and the author.
Problem is that with 3.6.18 (under Win XP) UnMht is there under "File" as "Save as MHT".... BUT under 5.0.1 and Win7 FireFox tells me the add-on is there but I cannot find how to activate it!! I would have expected to find it under "Page" (and Save As MHT) but it's not there. Certainly, the operational simplicity one got under 3.6.18 seems to have gone missing!Do you have version 5.6.9 of UnMHT installed?? That seems to be the only version that is compatible with Firefox versions above 3.6.
I have always used the UnHMT button for '''Save as MHT''', which automatically appeared in the Add-on Bar when I installed UnMHT in Firefox 5.0. To access the File menu items, when the Menu Bar is hidden and the orange Firefox button is showing, hit the '''Alt''' key, then the '''F''' key to open the Tools menu. BTW, there are additional menu items for UnMHT available in the Tools > UnMHT menu. -

Reboot loop: Help me delete all login items with Terminal
I updated my Macbook (5,1) from Lion to Mountain Lion and began soon thereafter to get the error that the computer had restarted after a problem. For a few days the computer would nevertheless reach desktop after a restart and could be used.
I thought that perhaps the error came from the login items and saw on Rogue Amoeba's site that SoundSource isn't yet compatible with ML. Removing it seemed to cure the problem.
But as of this morning the computer is stuck in a restart "loop". It shows the apple and spinner and a grey progress bar. When the bar is almost completed (a millimeter or so remaining) the computer restarts and does the same thing all over.
I have now managed to get to the recovery partition with cmd-r. I have repaired the disk with DU and I would like to remove all login items using Terminal but haven't got a clue how to do it. I have searched but don't find good walkthroughs. So I would very much appreciate help on how to do this.
My login items are Skype, Dropbox and iTeleport.

@ mende1 - I did hold cmd-R to reach the recovery partition. How do I now leave safe mode (if it is stuck in that) and boot normally?
@ Thomas - DU seems to be successful in repairing the disk. It doesn't report any errors - just says what it is "checking", "updating" and "adjusting" (not a very long list at all) - but it concludes with partition map appears to be OK.
My other Mac has all my files so I don't mind reinstalling on this one, except for the fact that I would have to reinstall all the applications and I don't have them with me where I am at the moment.
If I choose to reinstall when booted with cmd-r will it re-download or install from a local copy? Re-downloading will take forever because I only have mobile (3G) broadband here.
Do I have any other options?

Help with delete duplicate locked files
I'm kinda new at this so forgive me if I'm a bonehead.
I made a contribute site, then wanted to disable check in
check out. All the files have duplicate locked files remaining on
server and they take eons to ftp. Is there an easy way to delete
them all? I delete on server and they mysteriously are still there
the next time I reupload files...I first thought it was a DWMX ftp
problem, but same deal with GoLive.

I have very limited experience with Automator, but my guess is it's not up to the task. I'm trying to do something similar in iTunes but the actions under Finder don't seem to work properly. ( If you select 'Find Finder Items' and set the Whose field to Extension and Is Equal To and use the parameter 'mp3' it seems to work as expected. If you set the Whose field to Name and Ends with it only returns directories.) I'm thinking I need to look into actual scripting. Anyone have thoughts on this?

hello, i recently got two viruses on my Windows XP side. I deleted the one, but i just got the second one today. I rarely use it so i just was going to delete it because it seems to be infecting every file on there. The whole side is a wreck. So, i know its possible to delete the partitioned hard drive and recover the space for my mac side, but im worried about the virus. Its called Antimalware Doctor. I was told that if i delete the windows side that the files will still be there, just very hard to access. But if the files are there will my mac side be at risk? I know its hard to write viruses for mac. i have no problem just deleting the windows side but if someone could help me figure out what to do. If i delete the hard drive, will it delete the files that are infected with the virus as well? Or will they possibly cause harm to my mac. Thanks!!!

you don't have to worry about Virus "crossing" from PC side to MacOS.
Just remove the Windows partition, but you must use the BootCamp application to do this (in other words DON'T use the built-in Disk Utility app. or any 3rd party application for that matter).
After removing the Windows partition just restart your computer & you should have just one happy Mac OS partition on your hard drive. -

I had my Ipod Nano connected to my computer via a USB cable.
I accidentially knocked it out, and my Ipod froze. I reset the Ipod to find that ALL of my music is gone. The Ipod also says that there is mucic there, but absolutely none of it is shown anywhere. All of my pictures are still there as well.
I know I am supposed to restore it, but every time I try to it says:
Itunes cannot read the contents of the Ipod. Go to the summary tab in Ipod preferences and click restore to restore this Ipod factory settings.
The only problem is that my iPod isn't being displayed in iTunes. I can't even access it.
Please somebody help me.Ok, here's the contents of an old post. Have a read through this and see if anything helps.
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter:
-- Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management
-- Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”
-- Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused (Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” or something similar)
-- Safely eject the iPod
-- Reboot the PC
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
Try using another PC if you have access to one. Even a Mac may help. Try Restoring it on the other computer and moving it back to yours.
If you get any message about "Another User", an "iPod Service Error" alert appears, or “Please reinstall iTunes" appears, turn off the 'Fast User Switching' - even if no one else is using the computer (Win XP environment).

If you are getting a ‘Missing Drivers’ message, try this:
1. Go to http://www.driverguide.com and register (free)
2. Download ‘usbstor.sys’ & ‘usbstor.inf’ to your PC and place them in your i386 Folder
3. Update both drivers by selecting the two files you just downloaded
4. Reboot computer
5. Open iTunes and then connect you iPod
If all the above fails, you may have a Virus, Malware or SpyWare problem.
