Help with disabling Backup Assistant Plus

Upgraded to ICS last week. Now since there is no Charge Only option when plugging in to PC via USB, is there a way to keep Backup Assistant Plus from always opening the page?

I would recommend you use Google android services for you device. I have used Google in almost all of my phones and with never a problem. Backup assistant plus is not as stable or as easy to use as Google. Just set up a Google account if you don't have one already (and I'm sure you do) .  Give it a try
Do a Google backup
  1. Sign in to your Google's device, online account and go to settings.
  2. Personal, Backup and reset, and select both Backup my data and Automatic restore.
  3. Go to Settings, Personal, Accounts & Sync, and select your Google account.
  4. Select all of the option boxes listed, to ensure that all available data is synced.
  5. Though the specific procedure may slightly vary between Android devices, the process is generally the same.

  • Backup Assistant Plus simply doesn't work, how do I disable it?

I have a shiny new Samsung Galaxy S III and when I set up my contacts, I added them as "Phone" entries with the expectation that the Backup Assistant Plus app would allow me to back them up. Except that it doesn't and, from what I've seen online, it is a miserable piece of junk that simply doesn't work for many people.
    Soooo....
I sent all my contacts as a big V-card to my Gmail account, sorted things out in Gmail, unjoined them all on the phone, and deleted the Phone entries. Now I only have Gmail contact entries and they synch with no issues.
My only question now is, how do I disable/stop Backup Assistant Plus so that it doesn't constantly give me notifications about how incapable it is? I've tried clearing it's data and forcing it to stop. But it comes back from the dead, like a demonic zombie! It appears the only thing the app can do is resurrect it itself for the sole purpose of notifying me that it will fail to do anything useful.
Any and all help with this issue is greatly appreciated.

Your instructions above DO NOT WORK, under Manage Applications I get "Uninstall updates" - I cannot uninstall it. It is a "system application" and I am locked out of that control.  GRRRR.  Clear data does not do anything for performance.
Even when on wifi, this app's backup of data is slower than TAR in January.  Biggest issue is the
The reason the steps to uninstall the app didn't work is because the DROID 3 is running Gingerbread (Android 2.3).  The instructions above were for the Samsung Galaxy S III running either ICS (Android 4.0) or Jelly Bean (Android 4.1).
You can however "Clear the Data" for the app and from that point never use the app.  The phone will learn to not load it into the RAM in case you ever use it.

  • Backup Assistant Plus on Motorola Razr HD won't stop attempting to sync

How do I get Backup Assistant Plus to stop attempting to sync? I've googled this and found it to be a common question, but none of the solutions posted there have resolved the problem that when my phone has been in standby for a few hours (or possibly its when I'm moving around into and out of WiFi coverage) and I wake it up, it attempts a Sync and fails.
I never used to have this problem, but for whatever reason, at one point I attempted to set up Backup Assistant Plus, decided I didn't like/need it, and attempted to turn it off. This has been happening ever since and I'm really tired of having to dismiss the sync attempt page.
In Settings->Apps->All->Backup Assistant Plus and Settings->Apps->All->Backup Assistant+ Contacts, the Disable, Clear Data, Clear Cache, and Clear Defaults buttons are greyed out. Force Stop doesn't seem to help.
I went to the My Verizon page and removed Backup Assistant Plus from my account. Still no help.
One of the suggestions I found from Google was that perhaps one needed to disable backup assistant plus on the phone first before disabling it on My Verizon. Only problem there was that I couldn't find how to disable it on the phone.
I've been putting up with this for nearly a year and I'm sick of it. Any help?
    Thanks.

  • Now using Cloud to backup my contact - how do I disable/remove backup assistant plus

My wifes phone was setup to use backup assistance plus. I set it up to use Cloud -but it is still backing up with BAS. - how do I remove it? G
    Samsung Galaxy s4

You can't completely remove it. However you can default the choice in your 'My Accounts' selection in the Settings menu.
However, I tend to use both due to my free cloud storage is already full and the BAP still is able to back up my contacts.

  • $30 upgrade fee is for Wireless Workshops and Backup Assistant Plus?

I recently upgraded my device, over the phone, using the 2 year discount price of $199. I was completely unaware and never told by the VZW agent that I would be paying an extra $30 to help VZW offset the cost of Wireless Workshops and their Backup Assistant+ crap. The agent on the phone told me to expect a $199 + tax charge on my next bill but failed to mention the extra $30 and, to be quite honest, I'm pretty upset about this. I called the customer support line and was told the $30 free is there to support the cost of the Backup Assistant Plus service (which I do not use and have completely removed it from my phone because it's trash) as well as the Wireless Workshops they offer in their stores. This is complete ** and if I had been made aware of this nickle and dime scheme by VZW when I was upgrading, I would have canceled my upgrade and gone with another carrier instead of signing another 2 year contract. I will NEVER go to a workshop for a device, service, whatever that I know how to use or could spend an hour researching online so why am I having to pay for this? I use Titanium Backup Pro and the Android SDK environment to backup my phone and data instead of the clunky Backup Assistant Plus trash. In fact, I've completely removed all traces of BA+ on my phone...
So why am I "donating" $30 to Verizon for services that I, and I'm willing to bet most people, don't use? Why wasn't I made aware of this by the VZW agent I spoke to on the phone?

The final price of the phone was $260. I was told by the VZW agent to expect a ~$199 + tax ($215) charge on my next bill. There was no mention of a $30 upgrade fee. I was not notified BEFORE the purchase, and if it's listed on the discount upgrade page it's not very clear.
I did not see the articles in the news about this fee in the past and VZW did not make it clear to me that I would be charged this fee. I expect the VZW phone agent to make me aware of the fee's associated with any service I use, like this upgrade, but the agent failed to mention it.
Yes, I am complaining about the discount. I'm already unhappy that I was forced to lose my unlimited data plan when upgrading (unless I paid for the phone in full), but being charged an extra $30 for "services" like BA+ and workshops is absurd. Regardless of how much of a discount it was I don't like having surprise fee's come up on my cell phone bill. Why don't they include that free in the displayed upgrade price? Why not show $229.99 instead of $199.99?
    And it's 57% discount, not 60%+
Well according to the stats you just posted sales tax is 8% so since you insist on including that, then at full price a $600 phone plus 8% is $648. $260/$648 is 40% thus you received a 60% discount. Also even at 57%, you are complaining about a 57% discount? Really? If you went to a car dealer and got a 57% discount you'd be ecstatic. If you got a TV for 57% you'd be ecstatic.
This fee was announced April 11th 2012 It made ALL the major news sources.

There is no way you were not told in some fashion. You say VZW agent. So you ordered this over the phone? Ok so where did you see the phone you wanted? Um at this site? Well the fee is listed VERY clearly on the price of the phone. if youw ent into a VZW store it;s CLEARLY listed on the price tags.

  • I work and live in China and my backup assistant plus isn't working

Here's my situation, I currently am living and working in China so I am no longer with Verizon.  It has been quite some time since I used this phone and because of this I am no longer able to access my backup assistant plus account. I want to recover my photos but I don't remember what my ID is and the phone number Verizon keeps asking for is no longer in service. It's a long shot but does anyone have ideas? Thanks

We're sorry to hear about your backup assistant isn't working. However, since the account is no longer active you wouldn't be able to retrieve any information that was on the website.

  • How do you fix Backup Assistant Plus Lost Network

I have a Samsung S4 Mini.  It came with Verizon's Backup Assistant Plus installed.  I believe it should backup my contacts to a Verizon server somewhere.  However, since the day I got the phones, Backup Assistant Plus fails every night with a "Lost Network Connection. Please Try Again".  It doesn't matter if it connected by WiFi or Verizon 4g data. The error will happen if the Sync Contacts is checked or un-checked.  The only options for this app are a check box for Sync Contacts and the Sync Time. There isn't any option to Remove Account, Disable, or Un-install.  I've tried Clear Data and Clear Cache.  There is some vague information on Verizon saying the Verizon Cloud replaces Backup Assistant Plus.  I enabled Verizon Cloud and it seems to backup my contacts ok.  But Backup Assistant Plus continues to attempt and fail.
    - I do not want Verizon backing up anything, How do I disable, or remove Backup Assistant Plus?
    - If I can't remove Backup Assistant Plus, How do I stop the constant Backup Assistant Plus failures?
    - If Verizon Cloud replaces Backup Assistant Plus, why is it still installed and running?
    - And the obvious question - - Why does Verizon insist on backing up my contacts whether I want to or not?

I just had a similar problem and tried many of the steps on these Blogs. None of them worked. But I did get it working by turning on my Data. I normally keep Data off and use WiFi as much as possible so the Sync was failing and I was getting the Lost Network notice. But as soon as I turned on Data it started uploading and downloading my contacts. That was all BAP. But I could go to the Cloud and update via WiFi just fine.
So, why did I still work to get BAP working? BAP was stuck in a loop to try and get the Backup done. Since it couldn't it tried repeatedly and I believe it is why my battery was draining more rapidly than normal. Hopefully by turning on DATA the battery may last longer. If not I need to turn BAP to manual backups only. I hope I can find out how to do that.

  • Backup Assistant Plus error won't go away.

    Hello,
After Backup Assistant Plus was pushed to my phone i keep getting an application error:
Is there a way to disable Backup+ since i will probably never use it.
This is on a Samsung Stratosphere device.
    Thanks,

        Hi NickM219,
Application errors are no good! I know its important to have a properly working phone at all times. Let's get this resolved. If you are not going to use this great feature, you can remove it via MyVerizon http://bit.ly/xB4iTc . Sign in>Click " " sign next to I want to>Plan>Change features>Remove Backup assistant plus> save changes. The device will no longer prompt you to use this application, however the app icon will remain on the device. Keep me posted.

  • I cannot view my contact list via Backup Assistant Plus

I go to My Verizon, More Actions, Manage My Contacts.  After doing so, up comes a dialogue box which welcomes me to Backup Assistant Plus.  It has an option to add one or more email accts.  I choose Windows Live Hotmail and enter my email address and password.  After doing so, I receive an error message which reads, "Failed to add endpoint due to the following reason:  Missing Device Name.  Please try again."  I am entering the correct email address and password but to no avail.  As a result, it is impossible for me to see the contact list within Backup Assistant Plus.  Has anyone else noted this behavior?  Thanks in advance.

Thanks but I cannot seem to follow the instructions.  I cannot see the Content Management selection you mention.  It seems that I already have BAckup Assistant Plus on my acct. as I can go to that option on my phone and it tells me that the most recent backup was successful.  I can't see these contacts online however.  To review, I choose More Actions - Manage My Contacts - Welcome to Backup Assistant Plus - At that point, a box comes up asking me to add one or more email accts.  I choose Windows Live Hotmail and enter the correct email address and password.  That is when I get the aforementioed message, "Failed to add endpoint due to the following reason:  Missing Device Name. Please try again."
This has become very frustrating as my calls to Verizon have not helped.  However, it is reassuring to know that my contacts are indeed being backed up through my Microsoft Outlook acct. and can be retrieved from there should need be.
Nevertheless, I would sure like to be able to see and manage these contacts on Backup Assistant Plus online.  Thanks for your help.

  • How do you disable backup assistant?

Does anyone know how to disable backup assistant? It doesn't work very well for me and I don't want it messing up
my contacts on my phone anymore.  Thanks, Geoff

How do you turn of the backup assistant on Droid X that is causing issues regarding Contacts?
On your phone, go to Settings (it’s the left button on the bottom of the phone)
    Then click on ‘Settings;
    Then click on ‘Accounts’
There you should see an account referring to an email account. If you don’t see an account referring to an email account, I recommend that you go to a ‘Verizon’ store where they can assist you.
If there is an account referring to an email account, click on that account.
You should see links for ‘Sync Books’, ‘Sync Contacts’, ‘Sync Gmail (for example), and ‘Sync Calendar’If you do not see an account you are looking for, I suggest that you go to a ‘Verizon’ store where they can assist you.
If you have found the account(s) you are looking for, make sure that the check box for that account is ‘greyed out’.  If not, the click on that account and ‘grey ou the check box’.
For those who are having issues with syncing there’re ‘Contacts’ between Gmail and their Droid X, this should solve that issue.  This has been successfully tested.

  • How do i get old contacts off of backup assistant plus

my phone was reset so how do i get my old contacts from backup assistant plus.  i did not have the cloud set up.

Are you sure the contacts are in the Backup Assistant Plus? It is my understanding that the Backup Assistant has been incorporated into the VZW Cloud.
Could the contacts be saved in your Gmail account instead?

  • Why do I get "communication error" when selecting Contacts in Backup Assist Plus?

Have reset Backup Assistant Plus due to sync Errorcode 5 using Verizon response to others in this forum.  After running Backup Assist Plus again, I find that I cannot select Contacts for backup. I get a message that says "Error - There was a communication error".  I was able to select pictures and these were successfully backed up.  Any suggestions?

        Hello BobS3!
We absolutely want to make sure your contacts are backing up as well! I'm sorry you're running in to this concern. Let's figure this out together. Just to clarify, you mentioned you reset Backup Assistant Plus. Was this by following these steps: http://vz.to/14Iv5eS and clearing the data for the Sync Service and Backup Assistant apps?
