  • Help window disappears in iPhoto 6

When I select "iPhoto Help" from the Help menu, the window appears for a couple of seconds and then just disappears before I have a chance to type anything in. I just upgraded my system to Leopard and this started happening. Didn't have this problem in the old OS.

Has iPhoto 8 ironed out this bug (and others, like photos disappearing from the library)?
These are not bugs - they are problems with specific user's systems - millions and millions of people do not see them - only a very few people with problems with their work flow and/or systems see this problem
To the best of my knowledge neither iPhoto 6 nor iPhoto '08 have ever lost a photo - users have lost photos and users and problems have caused database disruptions but the photos are always there unless the user deletes them

  • Help with disappearing photos

Loaded my twins 3rd B-Day photos, all was going well.   Sorting them when all of the sudden a handful disappeared.  I see them at the bottom and when you look at a complete album on the screen, but when I try to click and just look at a single picture, a bunch of them show up with a black screen and a triangle with a ! sign.  No clue what happened and when try to share, these select photos will not 'share'.  They are not in the trash bin either.  Again, the mystery is that I see the photos at the bottom of the screen and when multiple photos are showing the screen.  HELP?????

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Help with 'disappeared' photos after migration to new macbook pro

So I got a lovely new macbook pro and successfully seem to have migrated everything from my old G4 powerbook. But, when I go into iphoto all 3,000 plus pictures have only the slash dotted outline and no images. Any suggestions as how to remedy this. Terence Devlin, you were kind enough to try to help me when I was having trouble with getting my pictures to export edited but we never did figure out the problem, so if you're out there and remember me maybe you can advise me here, as I don't know if anything I did in attempting to resolve that issue would impact the situation now. The pictures still exist on the other computer so it's nothing dire but it's weird to have everything look like it's there (in otherwords, the whole thing is set up exactly as my old one was, with the same albums etc.) but no actual pictures inside.... Thank you!!

    To anwser my own question:
Had to highlight my User Home in finder, and then had to add myself as a user (and click the cogwheel to apply to all files within) and allow myself to 'Read and Write' in permissions.
For some reason, when I migrated across, it didn't add me as a user - even though I was the administrator of both the old and the new MBP!

  • Need help with disappearing header row in tables

    Hey guys.
I'm working on a large document with tables (annual report). I have set up table styles with header and body cell styles. When I apply the table style to a table, then convert the first row to header row, the entire header row disappears...!
If I leave the row as body row and just apply the header cell style to it, it won't disappear. The row will only disappear if I convert it to header row in Indesign.
I checked the Word doc I imported the text from, the first row of the tables is just normal body row.
I dunno where to look so I have no idea how to fix this problem. It happens to all the tables. I was supplied this file. I don't particularly want to recreate the file. The original file was created in Creative Clouds and exported to idml for me as I have CS6.
Has anyone experienced the same problem or know what's the solution? I really need help.
    Thanks in advance.

It may be on the Table Options dailog box on the section of Headers and Footers> Header: Repeat Header the Skip First is check on.

  • Need help with importing into iPhoto.

I have a bit of an annoying problem when it comes to importing pictures into iPhoto (5.0.4). When I plug my camera into my computer, iPhoto launches and presents me with the import pictures option. However, it's not much of an option, as I can only choose to import all my pictures on the camera! More often than not, I only want to import some of the pictures, and rename them as well (instead of just "Image_0001.jpg", "Image_0002.jpg", etc.) To do this, I go through some really annoying steps:
1.) Plug in camera and start the Picture import app (not iPhoto).
2.) Choose what pictures I wish to import, and import.
    3.) Start up Automator.
4.) Tell Automator to get the selected pictures of the ones I have imported, rename them (eg. "Iceland 1", "Iceland 2", etc.), import to iPhoto and finally delete the source pictures.
5.) Repeat with the other pictures (eg. "Sweden 1", "Sweden 2", etc.).
    Done!
Now, my question is... is there an easier way? This method I just described is long, annoying and time consuming! So, is there a way to...
1.) Only import some pictures from my camera (not all), from within iPhoto?
2.) Is there any way to change the name of the actual file (not just the title of the picture in iPhoto) from within iPhoto?
3.) Does iPhoto have to copy all my pictures to a specific folder on my hard drive which I can't change?
4.) (Not relating to iPhoto...) Is there any way of changing the names of a number of files from within the Finder to sequential file names (eg. "File 1", "File 2", "File 3", etc.) without the use of Automator?
Thanks for any help. It's very much appreciated.

  • Help with importing photos - IPhoto assigning file names that already exist

When I import photos from my canon powershot camera, IPhoto has begun assigning file names that are the same as filenames that already exist on photos imported previously. It appears it is deleting those older files (when I go look in my photo library, the older one with the same name is now gone).
I don't know how to name photos as they are imported as it seems to be done automatically and I'm afraid to import more photos and loose my old pics. Can't find anything on the internet when I search on this question - can anyone help?

Thanks so much for your quick reply, TD.
What happens when I plug in my camera is that Iphoto opens, asks me if I want to import photos (and if I want to delete originals), and I click okay or whatever and they are imported. I name the roll/folder, and I photo puts them in the library in that folder in that year.
It makes sense that the camera is numbering them. I think that the ones it is using the same numbers for (ie - IMG0080.jpg) are the numbers on older photos that were assigned by a different camera that we used to have.
So I guess the canon isn't searching on all photo names that have been used, just the ones that it has used in the past.
Unfortunately, when the new photo is named with the same name as an old one, that old one is literally deleted - at least as far as I can tell - and when I go look for it in my photo library, it is no longer there.
I might try to see if there are any help forums for the canon powershot and see what I might learn there.
THanks so much for your help!

  • Help with messed up iPhoto Library

I fear that I have made a horrendous mistake. I purchased a new Macbook Pro and used the Migration tool. I didn't see where the iPhoto Library transferred over. I found my iPhoto Library on the old Macbook and drug it into Dropbox since it would sync with the new computer. When I opened iPhoto on the new computer all of the events were messed up. None of them are named correctly. A lot of them say they have photos in them but the photos show up as a gray triangle with an exclamation point.
I thought I would check the old computer, but because iPhoto Library is in my Dropbox it simply synced and replicated the "bad" one.
Is there any way to get the "old" iPhoto Library back?

What is your iPhoto version that created the iPhoto Library?
Yes, storing the iPhoto Library in the DropBox probably is the reason, that the library got corrupted. Don't store it on network volumes.
The best way to restore your iPhoto library would be to restore it from your most current backup.
Alternatively you could try to rebuild the library. The procedure differs, depending on your iPhoto version, see: iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
If that does not help, you could try to rebuild the iPhoto library using iPhoto Library Manager, but that will not be able to restore your book, cards, ..., only the Photos and events.
How to do that is described here by Terence Devlin,

  • Need help with rebuilding and iPhoto folder

I'm new to this Apple support thing, but sort of desperate. I was an idiot and renamed some photographs in the iPhoto folder that is accessed from Finder.
**(side note: it would be nice if there was something with iPhoto that informed users this is a bad idea. I didn't like the number format used in the iPhoto finder folder, and found it hard to find anything when trying to upload something to the internet, so I tried to change this- using actual iPhoto first, which didn't work- and have now discovered the consequences the hard way.)
All of my photographs are backed up to an external hard drive, but unfortunately they are all still goofed up, as well. (I can open them in Preview, but not in iPhoto). I've gone through rebuild, which didn't work, and am now trying something suggested here, which is to rename the folder "iPhoto Library_old" and then create a new library. This is working to an extent. When I am done, a window pops up telling me that I have unreadable files and that "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
I have definitely learned from this and will never touch the folder in the future, but if anyone has any idea of how to fix this problem, I would be incredibly grateful.

That is an incredibly helpful suggestion; thank you very much! I think the unreadable files are actually thumbnails. Another post explained that iPhoto doesn't re-import thumbnails from an old library because it creates its own.
Just one last quick question- when I've uploaded pictures from my "iPhoto Library_old" folder, for each roll there are the regular pictures and identical ones (unless they've been cropped, turned, etc.) called originals, presumably because they look like the original photo did. Can I delete these originals without hurting my library?
Thank you so much for your help!

  • Can someone help with moving iTunes & iPhoto from a external harddrive to my new computer?

I got my new computer 3 days ago. I'm loving it so far. My question is...I have an external harddrive that I was using as my backup for my old computer. It was running OS X 10.4 My new computer is 10.8.2. I have no idea how to get the info for iTunes or iPhoto off of my external drive. I've never had to do that before so I'm a little lost.
    Thank you for your time.

Migrating from an older Mac OS to a newer one is usually smooth (not vice-versa, there may be problems). Depending on the app used for backup, you may use it in the reverse order (you used to to backup, it must have a restore function).
Alternatively, you may simply copy the iTunes and iPhoto folders into ~/Users/logged in user/Library/Music and ..../Pictures, respectively.
You may also continue to use the folders on the external drive by pressing Option/Alt key upon starting iPhoto and iTunes. You can do that any time you wish to keep these folders in another location than the default one. See screenshots below.
If not clear, please come back with details.

  • Need help with searching in iPhoto

Hi. I have over 15,000 photos/movies in my iPhoto. I have created a Smart Album that will contain only my movie files by entering "Movie" in the Keyword field. I'm really backlogged with organizing all my iphoto files (photos and movies). What's the easiest way for me to pull up ONLY the movie files so I can enter my "Movie" keyword for the ones I haven't entered in yet? I tried to do a search/find in iPhoto, but it doesn't give me the option to search for files using the "Kind" field. All my movies have automatically been labeled by iPhoto as "AVI Movie or QuickTime Movie" in the "Kind" field.

iPhoto automatically tags all movies with a Movie keyword. So a simple Smart Album
File => New -> Smart Album
    Keyword -> is -> Movie
    will find them all.

  • Need Help with importing from iphoto

I am having trouble importing from iphoto it will allow my pics to show up but if I try to drag them to the frame below it will begin to import and then an error message will pop up say import error (-4960) what do i do to fix this.

    Hi bline:
Memory should be a problem (as you have already figured out).
Perhaps you should do some basic maintenance first:
Repair permissions (if you don't know how-look here:)
    http://www.ncmug.org/tips/repair_permissons.html
Perhaps download a free program to clean up unneeded files:
    Cache Out X
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14850&vid=106967
Also, you said "It's letting me see my title options but not apply them. I also don't know how to get that black page in there."
You just drag the titles or transitions to the timeline-no need to "apply".

  • Need help with iPhoto, Need help with iPhoto

    Hey there!!!
When I plug in my iPhone I go to iPhoto and can choose to import the pictures. I also tried Image Capture as it seemed easier to organise my pictures, making folders, sub-folders, etc. The problem with this is everytime I plug my iPhone into the computer click on Import the system automatically makes second, third, fourth, etc copies of each picture. This also means that there is a copy of my pictures on iPhoto and on Image Capture - which I do not really need.
I have tried to make Albums and Folders on iPhoto. Sometimes when I delete a picture as it has been saved in two albums it gets deleted from both albums. Why is this? How can I make Albums or Folders to organise my pictures. If my pictures are transferred directly onto iPhoto, can I find them anywhere else in my computer? If I wanted to burn pictures from various albums on a disc how could I do that on iPhoto? Also I dont want events to create themselves. How can I avoid this?
I would like help with either using iPhoto or know how the stop the duplicating of pictures on Image Capture.
Maybe there is a better way I can transfer the pictures onto my MacBook??
    Thanks a mil!!!

Are you running a "referenced" or "managed' library?
Image Capture does not store phortos in it. It's an application for uploading photos to wherever you tell it to, either a folder on the hard drive or into iPhoto. If you want to use only Image Capture to upload your photos to iPhoto then set iPhoto's General preferences to the following:
Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library:
1 - from an Event or the Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc.: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin.  Then empty the trash bin as above.
NOTE: deleting a photo from an album, slideshow, book, etc., with only the Delete key only deletes that photo from that item. Deleting a photo from an Event deletes ALL occurances of that photo in the library.

  • Where is my IPhoto library? I updated and the last two years of photos disappeared. Help., Where is my IPhoto library? I updated and the last two years of photos disappeared. Help.

Where is my IPhoto library? I updated and the last two years of photos disappeared. Help., Where is my IPhoto library? I updated and the last two years of photos disappeared. Help.Thank you.

Simple and fast solution: restore from your back up.
    Other than that:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
