Help with displaying an object from one class to a text box in another

Hi everyone,
Just a quick question
I have a public class called Order which is in a processing folder;
within this class I have a method which gets a sold basket (which is just a list of items sold)
and adds it to another array list;
public synchronized SoldBasket getOrderToPick()
throws OrderException
if (theWaitingTray.size()>0){
thePickingTray.add(theWaitingTray.remove(0));
System.out.print(""+toBePicked);
return toBePicked;
else{
return null;
The other class is a GUI which has a button called CHECK which is for the warehouse stock picker to see if any orders have been placed on the button I have this code;
public void actionPerformed( ActionEvent ae ) // Interaction
if ( theStock == null )
theAction.setText("No conmection");
return;
String actionIs = ae.getActionCommand();
try{
if ( actionIs.equals( Name.CHECK ) ){
theOutput.setText(""+theOrder.getOrderToPick());
catch(OrderException e){
System.out.print(e);
However I am still getting a null pointer exception any ideas??
Thanks !!

I don't see enough information here to be able to answer this question. Try
1) posting code here with code tags by using the CODE button above the Message window and checking your post with the Preview tab before posting it.
2) Posting a small bit of code that compiles without need for other files, classes or non-standard classes and illustrates your problem, an SSCCE.
Good luck.

  • Help with displaying image received from socket on Canvas

    Dear programmers
    I know that I'm pestering you lot for a lot of help but I just got one tiny problem which I just can't get over.
    I'm developing a remote desktop application which uses an applet as it's client and I need help in displaying the image.
    When a connection is made to the server, it continuously takes screenshots, converts them to jpg and then send them to the client applet via socket communication. I've got the the server doing this in a for(;;) loop and I've tested the communication and all seems to be working fine. However the applet is causing some issues such as displaying "loading applet" until I stop the server and then the 1st screenshot is displayed. Is there a way to modify the following code so that it displays the current image onto a canvas while the next image is being downloaded and then replace the original image with the one which has just been downloaded. All this needs to be done with as little flicker as possible.
    for(;;)
        filename = dis.readUTF();
        fileSize = dis.readInt();
        fileInBuffer = new byte[fileSize];
        dis.readFully(fileInBuffer, 0, fileSize-1);
        //Create an image from the byte array
        img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(fileInBuffer);
        //Create a MyCanvas object and add the canvas to the applet
        canvas = new IRDPCanvas(img, this);
        canvas.addMouseListener(this);
        canvas.addKeyListener(this);
        add(canvas);
    }

    Anyone?

  • How do i use objects from one class in anohter?

    Hey
    I have two GUI classes ShowWhiteGUI and BasketGUI and then a control class ShowWhite. The control class calls all the method from anohter class's which the GUI classes are gonna use.
    The basis idea with this script is it shall be a very very simpel Shop. Where you can add items to a basket and then show the items in a new window(BasketGUI).
    So here is the problem. I cant create an object in both GUI classes, because then im working with two sets of data, right? So how do i do this?
    Here is my code:

  • Help with Moving Entire Library from one account to another - Same computer

    Ok. I have read and searched but have had little luck with finding info on how to...
    I have 1 computer, an imac. We have two logins and each have a itunes account. How can I move EVERYTHING from one account to the other? I just want to close up one of the accounts and have everything in one place under the same library.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks

    Hi JS,
    I'm assuming that you simply want to move all of your music from one library to the other and operate iTunes ONLY from THAT library. If this is the case then follow these steps..
    1. Make sure that you place your iTunes Library to be copied into a location where you can access it while logged in from the OTHER account. The only two options you have are the "Public Folder" ~Users/YourUsername/Public or the "Shared Folder" ~Users/Shared. These are the only two folders where you have access when logged into another account.
    To do this open iTunes and go to preferences, selecting the "Advanced" tab and then the "General" tab. You will see the location of your iTunes Music folder and next to it a "Change" Button. Select the change button and a window will appear where you can choose to navigate to the desired NEW location for your Music Library. Once you have navigated to either the "Public Folder" or the "Shared Folder, select "Choose" and your library will be moved to the new location. Before you close the preference window make sure you have "Copy Files to iTunes music Folder when adding to Library" and "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" both CHECKED. Now close that window.
    2. Go to the iTunes menu again, this time under the FILE menu, there you will see the option to "Export Library." Click this option and a window will appear with a "Library XML" file highlighted at the top of the window. Change the name if you like or leave it as it is, but make sure you leave the xml at the end. Save this document to your Hard Drive. ( Click on your Hard Drive in the window and save the document there)
    3. Log out of this account and into your second account.
    4. Open itunes and go the Preferences in the menu bar. Again select the "Advanced" tab, and then the "General" Tab. Make sure that the same two boxes are checked. "Add Files to itunes Folder" and "Keep iTunes Folder Organized" Select OK and close the window.
    5. Now go the File Menu in iTunes and "Add to Library." In the pop-up window navigate to the Location of your first account (either your Public or Shared Folder) and select "Open." This will add all of your music from the original account.
    6. Now go back to the iTunes File menu and select the "Import" option. Navigate to the location of the xml file you saved inside your Hard Drive, select it and choose "Open". This will transfer all of your playlists and restore your iTunes library to its exact same state as the first account...
    It took a little while, but that's IT. Now if you no longer desire to use the original iTunes library, just log back into your first account and drag the iTunes Music folder in your "Public" or "Shared" Folder to the trash and delete it. Your new library already holds copies of those files so you won't lose anything.
    Hope this helps you achieve what you desire..
    Regards,
    Ben.

  • Help with migrating user data from one account to another

    I am on a G5 with 10.4.11. I installed FCP studio 6 and everything works fine except compressor. I have had only one user account on this mac (i will call it account 1). I was told to create another account (account 2), log on and see if compressor works. It does. Basically there are files missing on account 1 and compressor won't run. I have installed 3 times and no change.
    Anyway I was told to migrate all my user data from account 1 to account 2. I have been looking at threads and want to make sure I am doing the right thing. I found a way to close. Please see if this works. IT may be from the tiger forum:
    pick a short user name for your new account. then run the following terminal commands
    sudo mkdir /users/newshortname
    sudo ditto ~ /users/newshortname
    You'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see) after the first command. that's normal. This will copy your current home directory to /users/newshortname. Then go to system preferences->accounts and create a new account with the short name newshortname. You'll get a popup saying that a home directory by that name already exists and asking if you want to use it. say yes.
    Anyway, I would like to migrate everything from account 1 to 2 and have all preferences...everything. I would also like to be able to delete the old account...account 1 and rename account 2. Since this is a home MAC, I really don't need it PW protected. I would like this MAC to just use my new account 2 at start up.
    Please ask me any questions. This is my editing MAC, and I can't get around inside the OS. I know FCP like the back of my hand, but don't want to screw up this computer.
    Thanks in advance.

    Yeah, you should be able to move most of it by changing permissions.
    Network settings could be any/all of these though for instance...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.networkConnect.<12 digit number>.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconnect.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.nat.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.FaxPrefs.plist
    As well as the old Keychain & cookies from your Browser.

  • Passing a parameter from one class to another class in the same package

    Hi.
    I am trying to pass a parameter from one class to another class with in a package.And i am Getting the variable as null every time.In the code there is two classes.
    i. BugWatcherAction.java
    ii.BugWatcherRefreshAction.Java.
    We have implemented caching in the front-end level.But according to the business logic we need to clear the cache and again have to access the database after some actions are happened.There are another class file called BugwatcherPortletContent.java.
    So, we are dealing with three java files.The database interaction is taken care by the portletContent.java file.Below I am giving the code for the perticular function in the bugwatcherPortletContent.java:
    ==============================================================
    public Object loadContent() throws Exception {
    Hashtable htStore = new Hashtable();
    JetspeedRunData rundata = this.getInputData();
    String pId = this.getPorletId();
    PortalLogger.logDebug(" in the portlet content: "+pId);
    pId1=pId;//done by sraha
    htStore.put("PortletId", pId);
    htStore.put("BW_HOME_URL",CommonUtil.getMessage("BW.Home.Url"));
    htStore.put("BW_BUGVIEW_URL",CommonUtil.getMessage("BW.BugView.Url"));
    HttpServletRequest request = rundata.getRequest();
    PortalLogger.logDebug(
    "BugWatcherPortletContent:: build normal context");
    HttpSession session = null;
    int bugProfileId = 0;
    Hashtable bugProfiles = null;
    Hashtable bugData = null;
    boolean fetchProfiles = false;
    try {
    session = request.getSession(true);
    // Attempting to get the profiles from the session.
    //If the profiles are not present in the session, then they would have to be
    // obtained from the database.
    bugProfiles = (Hashtable) session.getAttribute("Profiles");
    //Getting the selected bug profile id.
    String bugProfileIdObj = request.getParameter("bugProfile" + pId);
    // Getting the logged in user
    String userId = request.getRemoteUser();
    if (bugProfiles == null) {
    fetchProfiles = true;
    if (bugProfileIdObj == null) {
    // setting the bugprofile id as -1 indicates "all profiles" is selected
    bugProfileIdObj =(String) session.getAttribute("bugProfileId" + pId);
    if (bugProfileIdObj == null) {
    bugProfileId = -1;
    else {
    bugProfileId = Integer.parseInt(bugProfileIdObj);
    else {
    bugProfileId = Integer.parseInt(bugProfileIdObj);
    session.setAttribute(
    ("bugProfileId" + pId),
    Integer.toString(bugProfileId));
    //fetching the bug list
    bugData =BugWatcherAPI.getbugList(userId, bugProfileId, fetchProfiles);
    PortalLogger.logDebug("BugWatcherPortletContent:: got bug data");
    if (bugData != null) {
    Hashtable htProfiles = (Hashtable) bugData.get("Profiles");
    } else {
    htStore.put("NoProfiles", "Y");
    } catch (CodedPortalException e) {
    htStore.put("Error", CommonUtil.getErrMessage(e.getMessage()));
    PortalLogger.logException
    ("BugWatcherPortletContent:: CodedPortalException!!",e);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    PortalLogger.logException(
    "BugWatcherPortletContent::Generic Exception!!",e);
    htStore.put(     "Error",CommonUtil.getErrMessage(ErrorConstantsI.GET_BUGLIST_FAILED));
    if (fetchProfiles) {
    bugProfiles = (Hashtable) bugData.get("Profiles");
    session.setAttribute("Profiles", bugProfiles);
    // putting the stuff in the context
    htStore.put("Profiles", bugProfiles);
    htStore.put("SelectedProfile", new Integer(bugProfileId));
    htStore.put("bugs", (ArrayList) bugData.get("Bugs"));
    return htStore;
    =============================================================
    And I am trying to call this function as it can capable of fetching the data from the database by "getbugProfiles".
    In the new class bugWatcherRefreshAction.java I have coded a part of code which actually clears the caching.Below I am giving the required part of the code:
    =============================================================
    public void doPerform(RunData rundata, Context context,String str) throws Exception {
    JetspeedRunData data = (JetspeedRunData) rundata;

    //String userId = request.getRemoteUser();
    /*String userId = ((JetspeedUser)rundata.getUser()).getUserName();//sraha on 1/4/05
    String pId = request.getParameter("PortletId");
    PortalLogger.logDebug("just after pId " +pId);  */
    //Calling the variable holding the value of portlet id from BugWatcherAction.java
    //We are getting the portlet id here , through a variable from BugWatcherAction.java
    /*BugWatcherPortletContent bgAct = new BugWatcherPortletContent();
    String portletID = bgAct.pId1;
    PortalLogger.logDebug("got the portlet ID in bugwatcherRefreshAction:---sraha"+portletID);*/
    // updating the bug groups
    Hashtable result = new Hashtable();
    try {
    request = data.getRequest();

    ===============================================================
    In the bugwatcher Action there is another function called PostLoadContent.java
    here though i have found the portlet Id but unable to fetch that in the bugWatcherRefreshAction.java . I am also giving the code of that function under the bugWatcherAction.Java
    ================================================
    // Get the PortletData object from intermediate store.
    CacheablePortletData pdata =(CacheablePortletData) PortletCache.getCacheable(PortletCacheHelper.getUserHandle(
    //rundata.getRequest().getRemoteUser()));
    ((JetspeedUser)rundata.getUser()).getUserName()));
    pId1 = (String)portlet.getID();
    PortalLogger.logDebug("in the bugwatcher action:"+pId1);
    try {
    Hashtable htStore = null;
    // if PortletData is available in store, get current portlet's data from it.
    if (pdata != null) {
    htStore =(Hashtable) pdata.getObject(     PortletCacheHelper.getUserPortletHandle(
    ((JetspeedUser)rundata.getUser()).getUserName(),portlet.getID()));
    //Loop through the hashtable and put its elements in context
    Set storeKeySet = htStore.keySet();
    Iterator itr = storeKeySet.iterator();
    while (itr.hasNext()) {
    String paramName = (String) itr.next();
    context.put(paramName, htStore.get(paramName));
    bugwatcherRefreshAction bRefAc = new bugwatcherRefreshAction();
    bRefAc.doPerform(pdata,context,pId1);
    =============================================================
    So this is the total scenario for the fetching the data , after clearing the cache and display that in the portal.I am unable to do that.Presently it is still fetching the data from the cache and it is not going to the database.Even the portlet Id is returning as null.
    I am unable to implement that thing.
    If you have any insight about this thing, that would be great .As it is very urgent a promt response will highly appreciated.Please send me any pointers or any issues for this I am unable to do that.
    Please let me know as early as possible.
    Thanks and regards,
    Santanu Raha.

    Have you run it in a debugger? That will show you exactly what is happening and why.

  • Transportation ( how to transport objects from one server to another)

    Hi BW guru's
    Please tell me the steps to transport objects from one server to another server.

    Follow the steps.
    1. RSA1 > Transport connection
    2. In the right window there is a catagory "all object according to type"
    3. Select required object you want to transport.
    4. Expand that object , there is select object, double click on this you will get the number of objects, select yours one.
    5. Continue.
    6. Go with the selection, select all your required objects you want to transport.
    7. There is icon Transport Object (Truck Symbol).
    8. Click that, it will creat one request, note it down this request.
    9. Go to Transport Organiser (T.code SE01).
    10. in the display tab, enter the Request, then go with display.
    11. Check your transport request whether contains the required objects or not, if not go with edit, if yes "Release" that request.
    Thats it, your cordinator will move this request to Quality or Production.
    Hope its helps.

  • How to transter contents of itab from one class to another...

    Hello experts,
    I am currently having problems on how to transfer the contents of an itab or even
    the value of a variable from one class to another. For example, I have 10 records
    in it_spfli in class 1 and when I loop at it_spfli in the method of class 2 it has no records!
    This is an example:
    class lcl_one definition.
    public section.
    data: gt_spfli type table of spfli.
    methods get_data.
    endclass.
    class lcl_one implementation.
    method get_data.
      select * from spfli
      into table gt_spfli.
    endmethod.
    endclass.
    class lcl_two definition inheriting from lcl_one.
    public section.
      methods loop_at_itab.
    endclass.
    class lcl_two implementation.
    method loop_at_itab.
      field-symbols: <fs_spfli> like line of gt_spfli.
      loop at gt_spfli assigning <fs_spfli>.
       write: / <fs_spfli>-carrid.
      endloop.
    endmethod.
    endclass.
    start-of-selection.
    data: one type ref to lcl_one,
          two type ref to lcl_two.
    create object: one, two.
    call method one->get_data.
    call method two->loop_at_itab.
    In the example above, the contents of gt_spfli in class lcl_two is empty
    even though it has records in class lcl_one. Help would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot guys and take care!

    Hello Saqib,
    The requirement to transfer asset with value date in the past year contradict the objective of audit trail established in the system although it is technically possible to do. Perhaps you should convince your client to adopt the standard approach, i.e. value date as at the date of asset transfer.
    Kind regards,
    John Chin

  • Calling a drawLine() from one class to another from an ActionEvent

    I have several JPanel objects called and placed on a JFrame. The JFrame has a RadioButton group with radio buttons. If I select a radio button and call a drawLine() method from a JPanel, I receive a "NullPointerException". Is it not possible to call this graphic method from one class to another?
    Thanks for any input you can provide.
    John

    Remember that each panel draws it's own current state. So you need the ActionPerformed to change the state in your target panel.

  • Passing Variables from One Class to Another

    Hello, I am new to Java Programming and I'm currently starting off by trying to build a simple application.
    I need help to pass variables created in one class to another.
    In my source package, I created 2 java classes.
    1. Main.java
    2. InputFileDeclared.java
    InputFileDeclared reads numerical data from an external text file and store them as string variables within the main method while Main converts a text string into a number.
    Hence, I would like to pass these strings variables from the InputFileDeclared class to the Main class so that they can be converted into numbers.
    I hope somebody out there may enlighten me on this.
    Thank you very much in advance!

    Values are passed from method to method, rather than from class to class. In a case such as you describe the code of a method in Main will probably call a method in InputFileDeclared which will return the String you want. The method in Main stores that in a local variable and processes it. It really doesn't matter here which class the method is in.
    You InputFileDeclared object probably contains "state" information in its fields such as the details of the file it's reading and how far it's got, but generally the calling method in Main won't need to know about this state, just the last data read.
    So the sequence in the method in Main will be:
    1) Create an new instance of InputFileDeclared, probably passing it the file path etc..
    2) Repeatedly call a method on that instance to return data values, until the method signals that it's reached the end of file, e.g. by returning a null String.
    3) Probably call a "close()" method on the instance, which you should have written to close the file.

  • Creating an arrays of objects from a class

    I was wondering does any one know how to create an array of objects from a class?
    I am trying to create an array of objects of a class.
    class name ---> Class objectArray[100] = new Class;
    I cant seem to make a single class but i need to figure out how to create an array of objects.
    I can make a normal class with Class object = new Class

    There are four lines of code in your for-loop that actually do something:
    for(index = 0; index < rooms.length; index++) {
    /*1*/  assignWidth.setWidth(Double.parseDouble(in.readLine()));
    /*2*/  rooms[index] = assignWidth;
    /*3*/  assignLength.setWidth(Double.parseDouble(in.readLine());
    /*4*/  rooms[index] = assignLength;
    }1.) Sets the width of an object, that has been instantiated outside the loop.
    2.) assigns that object to the current position in the array
    3.) Sets the width of a second object that has been instantiated outside the loop
    4.) assigns that other object to the current position in the array
    btw.: I bet you meant "assignLength.setLength(Double.parseDouble(in.readLine());" in line 3 ;)
    Since each position in an array can only hold one value, the first assignment (line 2) is overwritten by the second assignment (line 4)
    When I said "construct a new room-object and assign it to rooms[index]" I meant something like this:
    for(index = 0; index < rooms.length; index++) {
        Room aNewRoom = new Room();
        aNewRoom.setWidth(Double.parseDouble(in.readLine()));
        aNewRoom.setLength(Double.parseDouble(in.readLine());
        rooms[index] = aNewRoom;
    }1.) Constructs a new Object in every iteration of the for-loop. (btw: I don't know what kind of objects you're using, so this needs most likely modification!!)
    2.) set the width of the newly created object
    3.) set the length of the newly created object
    4.) assign the newly created object to the current position in the array
    -T-
    btw. this would do the same:
    for(index = 0; index < rooms.length; index++) {
        rooms[index] = new Room();
        rooms[index].setWidth(Double.parseDouble(in.readLine()));
        rooms[index].setLength(Double.parseDouble(in.readLine());
    }but be sure you understand it. Your teacher most likely wants you to explain it ;)

  • Pass a object from one jar to another jar file

    I have a common jar file which will communicate to the server for data validation purpose.But after validation it has to invoke different different jar file based on its response from the server.So, I might have a object which has to pass from the common jar file to a specific jar file.So, I like to know what will be the best procedure to achieve it.
    Please help me out.

    Yes,jar file holds class files.one of class files wants to trigger a method of a class file which resides in different jar file.this is the situation I tried to describe.Let consider there are three jar files like JAR A,JAR B ,JAR C.Here JAR A is a common jar where other two jar could be used as a plug in. So based on the condition any one of them (JARS) will be triggered by the common jar(JAR A).this is the situation.The class file of JAR A will trigger some method or main method of the JAR B/JAR C.So,here how could I pass a object from one jar to another is my main question.
    Is it clear now?
    I need a solution for this very urgently.Are you looking for a plug-in framework? That is, dynamically discovering and loading plugins. I am not experienced in developing or using plugins. However Googling "java plugin" brings up JPF.
    If you just have multiple jars that have different classes, the JVM will load the appropriate classes if it can find the jars through the standard classloader on the classpath or through a customer classloader.
