Help with DisplayPort to HDMI display settings

I am using a 50" Sony LCD TV with Mac Mini via DisportPort to HDMI adaptor. I am getting parts of the Dock and none of the top menu bar, why? The only setting that looks right is setting the display output to 1080x720 (overscan on). Any other settings will not fit the screen and crops both top & sides. Here are the TV specs. What am I doing wrong?

The only time I can choose a PC setting is if I plug it in the VGA port. The problem with that is that it will not fill the screen no matter what combination of TV, and Mac OS X settings & that's why I am using a DVI to HDMI cable. Video looks pretty good, but text looks horrible.
What can I do to improve the look of text so when I browse safari I can actuallly read it. Right now all text on any white background looks like there is a RGB blur filter. Text on grey (like on system preferences), look like there is a blue & emboss filter. Is it possible to get my mac mini look incredible the way it would look if I hooked it up to a regular apple monitor using HDMI or is that just impossible? Video looks pretty good as I said so it's not bad for watching podcasts or Hulu, but it looks horrible when I want to Surf, and I don't know if my expectation to replicate what I see on an apple monitor is doable via HDMI with my 2006 Sony Bravia.

Need Help with DVD recorder (HDMI) to record off DVR

I purchased a philips dvd recorder a few years ago and need help in setting up to record my DVR program recordings. The philips user manual is not very helpful being I'm trying to set-up with just using HDMI cables. I have a HDTV (Vizio) with a HDMI port; a DVD recorder with HDMI port and my Verizon set-top box have a HDMI port. How do i get it all to work and be able to record/copy programs from DVR to my DVD recorder? Do anyone have suggestions on how to set up wiring. Thanks.

First keep in mind that DVD is not an HD format, so you will not be able to record HD shows in HD; they will be in letterboxed 4:3.
The FiOS STB only has one HDMI (out) port. Therefore, you will need to use some other output from the STB to the DVD recorder. Component, or even composite/RCA, because it's not going to record in HD anyway to DVD, will work just fine. Then you want to set your DVD player to whatever input you used to connect from the STB; i.e. mine uses "Input 1" for my composite connection.
If you turn on your STB and DVD, this will record whatever the STB is outputting to a DVD if you press record on the DVD recorder. This includes all of the program menus and any other on-screen graphics on the STB, and this means you cannot change the channel if you are recording from your STB. You can shut your TV off, but you will not be able to watch another show while recording one to DVD.
Your DVD player might give you an HDCP message at first when the recording starts if it's getting an HD input, but that should go away after a few seconds, at least for my Panasonic DVD recorder with a composite connection.

Please help with Firewall and/or other Settings to Chat (MSN Messenger).

I've tried to chat on all (I think) the messenger programs available for Mac that use a hotmail account or .net passport - Adium, Fire, Mercury (current) and MSN itself - and I have the same problem with all of them: I keep getting cut off/disconnected from MSN! No problems with Yahoo messenger or Yahoo ID (although it can be a bit slow sometimes), just with .net passport account.
I'm pretty sure it's got something to do with Firewall and/or related settings, but after months of trying to fix it, I'm about to give up... please help!

Help with Title and Author Displaying on the iBooks Bookshelf.

I have created a book using iBooks Author and connected my iPad to my iMac to Preview my book, the book previews correctly the information I have entered into iBooks Author, however when you look on the iBooks Bookshelf it says UNKNOWN TITLE and UNKNOWN ARTIST even though I have entered this on my title page in iBooks Author, however the icon of my book on the iBooks Bookshelf is showing correctly the photo on the cover and the title and author, can any one help with this please?
Also no Category is showing against my book onthe iBooks Bookshelf how do I add one please?

It sounds that you haven't defined the book title yet.
Open your book in iBooks Author and go to the panel on the left-hand side of your screen that shows your page thumbnails. Scroll to the top of this box, and find the panel that has the:
Book Title
Intro media
Table of contents
Glossary.
If your Book Title here says simply 'Book Title', then define it by double-clicking on the 'Book Title' text in the thumnails panel, and type in your book's title.

Help with if/else in displaying data - (possibly foreach)

Hello all,
I've been trying to set something up, and I'm having difficulty getting it to work.
Lines 84-111 have become my biggest difficulty. I've got an if/else statement set up so that if one record has an image located on the localhost that image is pulled up. The way I have it now, this works great.
If I swap lines 93-96 with 102-105, and just tweek line 90, I can get it to work if the image is located on an alias and not the localhost.
The problem is that if I have it like it is now, I can't get both to work at the same time. So, I'm trying to get the if/else statement to apply to each record that is being pulled up. It seems like what it is doing now is choosing which part of the if/else statement it needs to use for the first record, and then applies that for all records.
Is there a way to have it coded like it is now for the if/else statement (because I want to be able to add multiple alias' and just check to see if the image is on the localhost or not); but have the image be displayed no matter if the image is located on the localhost or an alias?

I've looked through a number of tutorials and it's been indicated to use a for each loop. However, I can't seem to get this to work. Is there anything I can do to get this to work the way I am trying to? Is it a problem with my if/else or do I need a for each? If I need a for each, how do I do that?

When the records are pulled, it seems like only the first part of the if / else statement is being applied to every record that is being pulled. The problem is if I've got records like the following:
Record one - (file on the host computer)
needs to be displayed from the condition
src="movies/coverart/<?php echo $row['art']; ?>"
Record two - (file on networked external hard drive)
needs to be displayed from the condition
src="http://<?php echo $row['ip_address']; ?>/<?php echo $row['alias_name']; ?>/coverart/<?php echo $row['art']; ?>
The way it's coded now, only record one will display the image (record two will not display the image). If I swap the order of the conditions, only record two will display the image (record one will not display the image).
How do I get both record one and record two to display the image when both appear on the same page from a single search query?

Help with computer setup and PP settings for faster/better previews

I have been using Cyberlink PowerDirector software for video editing. It is very easy to use and can do quite a bit. It was also accelerated by Intel HD graphics built into my system, so I could see a lot of my work at a pretty high resolution in real time.
However, I wanted to see what PP was capable of, specifically the Warp Stabilizer.
So I downloaded PP and have been trying to use it, but it was just slow as heck to preview anything (chop stop chop stop...), with render times being insanely long (12 hours for five minutes of footage vs. about 30 minutes with PowerDirector).
Thinking it was a problem with my system and I needed to get a real graphics card, I got an EVGA GTX 670 (FTW) for $400, and popped it in. I modified the text file so PP would see it as a compatible card, opened up PP and changed the engine to the new card.
Things are faster, but I was expecting a lot more. Here's what I'm doing:
1. Shooting Canon 5D mark II (now III) clips 20-60 seconds long, 1080p.
2. Import to PP and sequence them.
3. Adding effects:
     A. Top adjustment layer for fast color correction (white balance)
     B. Next adjustment layer: 3-way color, shadow/highlight, unsharp mask, fast blur
     C. Video 1 layer has the clips with warp stabilizer applied to each, and dissolves.
My final output will be 720p. ( I shoot 1080p so the Warp Stabilizer will have more to work with, and I can crop without feeling like I'm degrading quality).
My system: i7 2600k, 16GB RAM, GTX 670 graphics, 120GB SSD "Max IOPS", 2TB 7200rpm internal, 2TB 7200rpm external (USB 2.0, backup drive).
I can currently preview at 1/4 res in realtime. I would really like to be able to get to 1/2 res (of course full would be great). One thing that worries me is that GPU-Z indicates that my GPU is only running at about 2% while previewing, while CPU usage is at around 50%. I was under the impression that the Mercury thing would use GPU/CUDA to process previews and effects that are supported (that includes Warp Stabilizer).
I've looked at Sequence Settings and fiddled with Preview File Format and size, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I'm currently looking around at codecs (Cineform, DNxHD), but don't know if those can help.
What settings should I alter to get better previews?

Well I'm still pretty clueless about this, but for anyone who is looking at this and wondering, here's what I've gleaned:
1. After Effects, especially CS6, makes much more and better use of graphics cards than does Premiere Pro. I'm guessing that PP will, in future versions, make better use of them. For now, no need to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on one.
2. Update the software. PP and AE both performed substantially better after installing the .01 update from adobe. After you install the update, be sure to re-do the CUDA hack, if necessary.
3. As it stands, money for a PP system is best spent on a processor, as in the newest Intel (currently Ivy Bridge), and overclocked. This is where performance happens. I'd say on a 2012 system, 16 GB RAM should be considered a minimum for video editing, and 24 or 32 if you can afford it. More than that probably won't be utilized. Hard disks can affect performance, but I don't think it's a bottleneck unless you're doing something that requires VERY fast/large reads and writes (4k source?). Most people who have high-end editing stations also have a bunch of drives in RAID, but if you look at the performance chart, the SECOND highest scoring tester did not use RAID (though did use a presumably fast and large SSD).
Keep in mind that all of this has to do with RENDER speeds. I still don't know what the bottleneck is for PREVIEWS, but I'm just going to assume it's the same.

operates normally in other embeds - I guessing that it has
something to do with your BB settings somewhere.

Please help with videos not being displayed

I bought two videos at videohive. All i have to do is put my photos at the placeholders and render the videos.
I did with three other videos and all went fine.
but these two that i bought today are being displayed like this:

We can't know anything. You are not telling us what is involved in the projects or any other details like system informtaion. Perhaps you forgot to download some complimentary footage, perhaps you are missing a CoDec to use footage that comes with the project, perhaps there is some other technical issue like some CoDec or effect not being compatible with your render settings.... In any case, you will have to spill a lot more details and provide more screenshots.

Help with Dynamic Code not displaying only ASP Shields???

Started working with some .asp pages today and it is not showing me the record set in the brackets. Like this {Recordset.Field} Only giving me the little ASP shield. Looks like this. I have search on google and in dreamweave in the pref's thinking something was not turned on. Can any one help this is driving me nuts.

I have been working with DW since UltraDev days and I have never had this issue. I did a fresh install of Win7 Pro and now I get this instead of the dynamic info in the window. I really do not think that it matters what view you are in. I do not want to se what is generated by the DB I just want to see what is supposed to be re-ferenced by the DB in the WYSIWYG.It should not matter if I am working in the Designer or classic or what I usually work in the Dual Mode
It is killing me becasue I can't apply style to the shields it won't let me.
If I run live view I get the proper info. displayed but I should get something like this in the WYSISYG window {rs_innentory.inv-LG-Image} not the damn ASP shield.
I know that I am missing something simple that a tick box or something....it is driving me crazy!

Help with image query and display

I want to show clients a few proofs. I've created a dropdown
list of Projects. That calls a CFC query to search for the related
image names within the DB. The images are stored locally/within my
Flex Application File Folder Structure. After querying the DB I
need it to return the list of images, and then display them from
the folder location. Can this be done and how? So far I can't even
get my CFC to return an Alert.show(imageList).toString(); So... I
missing something somewhere. I had to change the returntype to
query... but I've got a variable set as an imageList:image;??? Any
help or comments would be greatly appreciated!

new assembly, monitor cannot see card with either the reg vga or dvi with vga adapter.
-monitor does work, tested with other system
-ps appears good the fan on vga card turns
-cleaned pins and reseated
-mobo setup is correct i think, checked it 3 times. it

Just a thought - had a friend with an FX5900 on an nForce chipset which would not show anything on the display. Another VGA card put in its place had the same problem. The mobo (an MSI) had two jumpers to set it in safe mode (100Mhz bus speed). After flipping these into position and turning it on there was the display!!
Reset items in BIOS and jumpers and the system went on without problem. Maybe your board has the same jumpers.
Just a thought!

Problem with Displayport and HDMI on 15pro Late2013

I just got a new 15pro few days ago(the one with 750M video card)
When I trying to connect it to my external monitor(DELL U2913WM 2560 x 1080) by miniDisplayport(to miniDP port), everything shown on my external monitor looks like I'm using a VGA cable instead. All images and texts are not clear.
I have another windows PC, whcih is using HDMI-HDMI with this monitor, everything are very clear. ==> No problem with the HDMI cable and monitor.
Then I tried to connect my MBP with HDMI-HDMI cable, both screen went dark for every 3 second peroid(and it is still not clear when the screen is on), again and again
Any suggestions?

Need some help with all of the jumper settings.

Wow, this has been some ordeal. I inherited a G4 iMac from a friend, which has been a great deal of trouble to me, particularly with the jumper settings. Anybody like dealing with that? Come on down...
So here's my situation. The hard drive in the iMac was dead. No big deal I'll just replace it, so I got a drive which I'm SURE is compatible. I plugged it in paying little attention to the jumper settings on it because until the beginning of this ordeal I knew nothing about jumper settings.
Now this is where it starts making no sense... I booted the computer while holding down the mouse button to eject, then put in a 10.2 OS disc, and then restarted holding C to boot from the install disc. It loaded fine but when I got to the installation step where I pick a drive to install it to, there were NO drives in the menu.
Maybe it needs to be formatted, right? WRONG. From the install screen I clicked open disc utility, and found the drive there in the list. It recognizes the drive, so why can't I install to it? I tried reformatting the drive as Mac os extended or whatever, and this made no difference.
This is where the jumpers come into play. I can't find jumper settings anywhere online for the DVD-RW Pioneer DVR-104PC Superdrive, so I've left the jumper on the optical drive alone and tried toying with the jumper settings on the HD instead, but I tried every possible setting and none of them worked to allow the installer to see my hard drive.
So what do you all think the deal is? If you know what the various jumper positions are for this particular optical drive, by all means let me know so I can toy around some more. Or if you know an alternate solution other than what I've suggested, please share. I've already invested money in a drive, some thermal paste, and Torx screwdrivers for this thing, so I really just want to get it working.... Let me know...

My experience with WDs is that when they need to be "Master single" I use no jumper. That's in most Mac setups including the iMac G4s. Which drove me nutz until I figured that out. All other manufactures I've run into need a jumper across the first pair on the left as you look at it from the back. WD is the odd man out.
Also if you Google:
"western digital jumpers" the 2nd response you get is from OWC (macsales.com) and they're telling you to use the slave setting. Don't know about that I've always used no jumpers but I see a lot of hard drives so next time..

Need help with Cluster of Buttons displaying a message to which button is being pressed.

Create a VI with a cluster of six buttons labeled Option1…Option6. When executing, the VI should wait for the user to press one of the buttons. When a button is pressed, use the Display Message To User Express VI to indicate which option was selected. Repeat this process until the user presses the Stop button. The parameters of the problem needs me to use a while loop, case structure, a shift register and search 1d array. I'm just having trouble setting up my case structures and how to get the search 1d array to work with the cluster to find which button was pressed. I've attached a picture of my VI and also a VI I made without the cluster that does what I want the Cluster VI to do which is to recognize the button being pressed and bring up a prompt.

Okay so i moved the cluster into the while loop and wired a boolean true constant to the element of the search 1d array and now I can at least get the prompt for button 1 to display, but when I press the other buttons which I have set up the same way as button 1 I get no prompts so how can I get it to recognize the other buttons. Am I implementing the shift register incorrectly?

Need Help with selecting the proper output settings

I am new user of Final Cut Studio and the problem that I am running into is with the final version of a dvd I have created.
Situation: I have files imported(Final cut studio) in MP4 format (they look perfect), once im done editing and export to dvd studio pro the files look fuzzy and pixelated. What are the proper settings to stop this from happening?

MP4 is a highly compressed format designed to deliver files over restricted bandwidth media. So yes, file sizes will increase when converted to an editable format.
Whether the file sizes you quote are "accurate" or not, I leave to your judgement.
