Help with event in iMovie '09 event library?

I am going nuts with an iMovie project!
I am trying to make a movie of my recent vacation (which I do every year). I have already invested about 15 hours in the project. I opened iMovie tonight and tried to view it. Immediately, I noticed something was odd because as my cursor ran across clips in my project they did not show in the viewer and where ever the cursor was over a clip (either in the project or on a clip in the event I was working from) the thumbnail image in the filmstrip switched to light gray.
When I play my project all the music and titles I added play but the clips are blacked out AND the clip's audio doesn't play. The source clips in the event library also play the same in the viewer (blackout and with no audio). The problem seems to relate only to the event I am working with to create my project. I checked some other events in my library and they play fine in the viewer (although I am not using any video from those events in my current project).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just for the record I am running OS 10.5.8 on a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I am using iMovie '09 v. 8.0.6. Also, the clips were imported directly into iMovie.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I wound up resolving this on my own. I finally went to Time Machine and restored the folder "movies" under my account name. I went back about an hour before I stopped working on the project. This restored the project and allowed me to continue to work on it. I only lost about 3 minutes at the very end that I had to recreate (much better than recreating the entire project over). It has been about a week since the restore and (knock wood!) all has been well. I have learned the value of a Time Machine back-up.
One thing of note: Immediately after the restore I did have an issue with iMovie not recognizing my iTunes library. Once I opened iTunes and went back to iMovie the library was there.
Hope this helps someone else.

  • Help with iTunes 2.0.4 and library on networked Mac

    Hello, I was given an old Powermac G3 (blue and white).  It's running Mac OS 9 and iTunes 2.0.4. I have it hooked up in my garage. I want to listen to my iTunes while I'm out there working on stuff. My iTunes library is on my MacBook Pro in the house. I cannot get the G3 to see my iTunes library, or my MBP. I have sharing enabled on my MBP. Both computers have internet access through the network, and I have no issues using my iPhone 5 with my MBP. I don't understand what's going on, but I would love to get the garage computer working! Help, please!

    What kind of networking?  When I think of G3s I do not think of wireless capability, so do you have some kind of Ethernet LAN?  Can the G3 "see" the Macbook Pro for anything?
    What kind of sharing?  General file sharing?  iTunes Library sharing (again not sure when this came in and if it was present with iTunes 2)?

  • Help with Sharing iPhoto 9.5.1 library between users on same computer

    Hi,
    I have upgraded operating systems to Maverick on my macbookpro which also upgraded iphoto to 9.5.1.  Previously in IPhoto I could choose to share the library in each of three user accounts.  The third account was used only for gathering photos to make books, calendars etc.  There does not appear to be a way to do this now.  How do I share libraries on the same computer without creating a library on a separate device?
    So frustrating....I was right in the middle of creating a book.
    Thanks for any help.

    That particular feature has been discontinued with iPhoto 9.5.1.  However, you  can use iCloud to share photos via  Shared Photo Streams. Each user account will need their own iCloud account and each user can create Shared Photo Streams to be shared with the other accounts.  The photos in the SFSs can be downloaded by any account with access to the stream.
    Anbother option would be to create a Dropbox account and when the 2 accouts come across photos to be used in a project they can export the original file to the Dropbox in the account so they can be downloaded into the 3rd account and imported into the project library.
    If you have an external HD you could put the project library on it and access it from each of the other 2 accounts. Project photos could be added to that library directly by the other 2 accounts by exporting to the desktop and importing into the projects library with an easy library switch.  Or one can use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to copy selected albums between libraries.

  • Help with Annotations in iMovie to Quicktime Pro to iPod Workflow

    This is what I want my content to do:
    a) play in a webpage
    b) be downloadable and open automatically in iTunes/play on iPod
    c) additionally, I want the content to be annotated, so that when it is download and opened in iTunes automatically (rather than Quicktime) the Artist, Title and Album show up.
    I plan to create two different containers for my content - one for the webpage, one for iTunes. Currently, I am editing the content in iMovie.
    Having never done this before I am getting bogged down with the workflow variables.
    For example, this is my plan to make the webpage content:
    1) Export iMovie content into DV
    2) Open DV content into Quicktime
    3) Enter annotations and "Save As", creating a 1.5GB .MOV
    4) Export 1.5GB .MOV as "Movie to Quicktime Movie" with "Fast Start" and the appropriate comression levels.
    My workflow for the iPod is similar:
    1) Export iMovie content into DV
    2) Open DV content into Quicktime
    3) Enter annotations and "Save As", creating a 1.5GB .MOV
    4) Export 1.5GB .MOV as "Movie to iPod."
    Does this look right?

    Only the Export to iPod or Export to iPhone appends the .m4v file extension and those exports do not allow any adjustments to the compression settings.
    iTunes and the iPod (and the iPhone) can all import and open .mov files. As long as you don't exceed the specifications you won't have any trouble:
    Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
    My point was that you don't need to make more than one file for both the Web and the iPod.

  • Help with Aperture/T2i/iMovie/large file ( 2GB) issue.

    I am having an issue with a very large file (3.99 GB) that I shot with my Rebel T2i. The file imports fine into Aperture, but then it isn't recognized at all by iMovie. I found out that iMovie can only handle files that are 2 GB or smaller.
    So now, I am trying to figure out how to chop my mega file neatly into a pair of 2GB halves. When I use the trim function, that does not seem to do the trick -- this may be a case of Aperture's non-destructive nature actually working against me.
    Does anyone have a solution for this? My intuition suggests that this may be a job for QuickTime Pro -- but I wasn't sure how that works now that we all have QuickTime X.
    Much appreciated.

    The file may well be in the wrong format, can you tell us more about it. See This

  • Help with installing digital edition from the library

    Im at the library trying to install the digital edition installer and I get thru to the very end and it gives me an error...the library says its an abode error ..it says something about ...something expired...

    There are a number of discussions around the problems with downloading. These are mainly in the 'Problems with Downloading' forum, since (apparently) that forum has been set up to discuss problems with downloading.
    The current suggestion that seems to work is to do the following steps:
    - clear all cookies and temp files
    - exit (close) all copies of browser
    - restart browser, go to http://otn.oracle.com and sign in
    - go to http://downloads.oracle.com and download

  • Help with the missing file in iTunes library on Mac

    My recent purchase, a movie, from iTunes does not appear in the library.  It shows up on my other devices, iPhone and Apple TV, though. There's an exclamation mark next to the movie file in the libaray and I did try to locate the missing file but it didnt work out. It seems that it hasnt even downloaded the pertaining *.m4v file. I also checked for any incomplete downloaded file, but there wasn't any... Is there any other way I can retrieve/redownload the missing file from my Apple ID account (because I have the movie on my other devices) to my library on Mac?

    Well it started working for me today, out of the blue.
    The only thing that I think could be a coincidence is that I recently installed Adobe CS6 on my Mac (it's likely that this is when the problem started), but today I had to open a CS5 product. The next time I looked at iTunes everything was working.
    I doubt that has anything to do with it, but hey maybe! I hope others are experiencing the fix too

  • Need help with subtitles in iMovie 08'!

    I'm trying to add subtitles to a single clip. I have realized that you can use "titles" as subtitles, but that only allows 1 per clip. Suggestions?

    Hi
    My suggestion is that You do this in iMovie HD 6 where it is so much easier and intuitive.
    iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4) http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html
    Here You use the Text tool - Subtitle and You make a cut in the video-clip down
    on TimeLine with [cmd-T] exact where You want the Text to start. Then drop the
    icon (left of Subtitle letters) where the video-clip starts.
    Plasy forward till You need to apply next line/lines (two).
    Text tool in iMovie HD 6 orients after cuts in the video-clip.

  • Help with quicktime in iMovie 9

    In imovie 9 i use quick time to export my videos ready for uploading to Youtube and i noticed that the dark areas in my videos look grainy and not in HD like the video should be..is there something i should be doing to the setting to make this work? I did read on youtube this see link https://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en-GB&answer=1297408&hl= en-US
    I have done all this accept for "Select Size and choose the original size of the video." I'm unsure which option i should choose? my video is 1080p but i have no idea what size the video is when i right click my video files it gives me some information, yet I'd have to type that in the setting box which then dosent allow me to make it HD :/ or maybe thats not were i should be looking? So please help and tell me what i need to do in order to export using quicktime and be able to upload in HD to Youtube.
    Also is there a way to make the file size smaller to reduce uploading time yet at the same time not make it a super small video and reduce the quality as i want to keep it in HD to Youtube sometimes my videos take a full day to upload

    I'm not sure about the problem of graininess. I assume your video was already in 1080p quality before you tried uploading. If it is originally less than that, you can't mae it any better. Ther is no way to make uploading to YouTube faster without losing quality...

  • Need help with "Copy items to the iPhoto Library" option

    I originally unchecked the "Copy items to the iPhoto Library" option because I wanted to keep my own file structure; however, I now want to get rid of my file structure and just import all pics into iPhoto library without losing all the editing and face recognition work I did.  If I create a new library, I will have to redo all the editing which is a massive amount of work.  I have a 50+GB library.
    iPhoto 11 on MacBook Pro - Lion OS.

    Unless you can hack an sql database, there is no way to do what you want, I'm afraid.

  • Need help with audio in imovie

    Allright for some reason my new not even a month old macbook has stopped including audio when i use i movie. what i mean is that it will record videos just fine but will not carry the audio with it. it used to i did some beatbox videos and it was great but then it stopped im not sure what i did. im rather new with this thing ive had windows for 17 years. but ive got the hang now. I just dont understand why the mic wont record the audio. it will respond to voice commands annd stuff but not when recording a movie whats up with that??

    Hi DJ
    Vild guess.
    A program has probably changed audio in port.
    Go up left to Apple menu
    down to System pref
    select Audio
    select in - What is it set to ? Mic or Line ?
    Change and test - eventually increas sound input and output adjustments.

  • In the iMovie 11 event library, how can I get the iPhoto video clips to combine with my camcorder pics listed below and in chronological order?

    In the iMovie 11 event library, how can I get the iPhoto video clips to combine with my camcorder pics listed below and in chronological order?

    Try forcing iPhoto to load the Library on the External Hard drive by launching it while holding down the Option key. Choose the Library on the External HD, and quit iPhoto, see if iMovie can see the Library with the iPhoto Videos contained inside.

    I'm trying to add a listener to [this JOptionPane pane dialog box|http://beidlers.net/photos/d/516-1/search_screenshot.JPG|my dialog box], so that when it pops up, the cursor is in the text box, but then if the user clicks a button other than the default, the cursor reverts back into the text box.
    The code I have is this:
      // BUILD DIALOG BOX
    JLabel option_label = new JLabel("Select a search option:");
    // Create the button objects
    JRadioButton b1 = new JRadioButton("Search PARTS by name");
    JRadioButton b2 = new JRadioButton("Search ASSEMBLIES by name");
    JRadioButton b3 = new JRadioButton("Search DRAWINGS by name");
    JRadioButton b4 = new JRadioButton("Search all by DESCRIPTION");
    b1.setSelected(true);
    // Tie them together in a group
    ButtonGroup group = new ButtonGroup();
    group.add(b1);
    group.add(b2);
    group.add(b3);
    group.add(b4);
    // Add them to a panel stacking vertically
    JPanel panel = new JPanel();
    panel.setLayout(new BoxLayout(panel,BoxLayout.Y_AXIS));
    panel.add(b1);
    panel.add(b2);
    panel.add(b3);
    panel.add(b4);
    JLabel name_label = new JLabel("Enter a search term (add *'s as required)");
    JTextField name = new JTextField(30);
    name.addComponentListener(new ComponentListener() {
    public void componentHidden(ComponentEvent ce) { }
    public void componentMoved(ComponentEvent ce) { }
    public void componentResized(ComponentEvent ce) {
    ce.getComponent().requestFocus();
    public void componentShown(ComponentEvent ce) { }
    Object[] array = { option_label, panel, name_label, name };
    // GET INPUT FROM USER
    int res = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog(null, array, "Select", JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION);
    String searchTerm = name.getText();This sucessfully has the focus in the text box when opened; is there a way to get the focus to go back into the text box after the user clicks a radio button?
    Thanks!

    you will need to add ItemListener to the JRadioButtons

  • Need help with custom event from Main class to an unrelated class.

    Hey guys,
    I'm new to Flash and not great with OOP.  I've made it pretty far with google and lurking, but I've been pulling my hair out on this problem for a day and everything I try throws an error or simply doesn't hit the listener.
    I'm trying to get my Main class to send a custom event to an unrelated class called BigIcon.  The rest of the code works fine, it's just the addEventListener and dispatchEvent that isn't working.
    I've put in the relevant code in below.  Let me know if anything else is needed to troubleshoot.  Thank you!
    Main.as
    package
        import flash.display.MovieClip;
        import flash.events.MouseEvent;
        public class Main extends MovieClip
            var iconLayer_mc:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
            public function Main()
                Spin_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,fl_MouseClickHandler);
                addChildAt(iconLayer_mc,0);
                placeIcons();
            function placeIcons():void
                var i:int;
                var j:int;
                for (i = 0; i < 4; i++)
                    for (j = 0; j < 5; j++)
                        //iconString_array has the names of illustrator objects that have been converted to MovieClips and are in the library.
                        var placedIcon_mc:BigIcon = new BigIcon(iconString_array[i][j],i,j);
                        iconLayer_mc.addChild(placedIcon_mc);
            function fl_MouseClickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void
                dispatchEvent(new Event("twitchupEvent",true));
    BigIcon.as
    package
        import flash.display.MovieClip;
        import flash.events.Event;
        import flash.utils.getDefinitionByName;

    My apologies, I should attempt to compile my example code before I ask for help...
    Alright, this compiles, gives me no errors, shows my 'book' and 'flowers' icons perfectly when ran, and prints 'addEventListener' to the output window as expected.  I get no errors when I press the button, 'dispatchEvent' is output (good), but the 'twitchUp' function is never called and 'EventTriggered' is never output.
    How do I get the 'twitchUp' event to trigger?
