Help with executing windows command in java

hi, i am trying to execute dos command in java. currently i am trying simply to create a folder in the current directory.
here is the code snippet:

i have also tried using "mkdir" instead of "md". but my code just throws an exception that says:
java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: md myFolder error=2
what have I done wrong? thanks in advance

I have a web application which uses a servlet to execute windows commands, such as "mkdir", "mv", and "rmdir". In my servlet, I use java Runtime() class to implement the execution.
Under jsdk1.4 and tomcat 4, it is fine for the servlet to execute those command. But uncer jdk1.5 and tomcat 5, it gives the following error:
error to execute a command: java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: mkdir c:\m7q28 error=2
java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: mkdir c:\m7q28 error=2

Executing shell commands from Java.

I want to execute shell commands in Java using the Runtime.exec( String ) method.
The method works fine under Linux OS, but under Windows '98 the method didn't work at all!
For example the following call: Runtime.exec( "dir" ) throws an exception showing that the command was not completed. If I replace dir with ls under Linux all is good. What is the problem with the Microsoft Windows '98 ? Is there any solution at my problem ?!

Your code is probably good to run a program, that does not use terminal capabilities.
Program "top" is a little bit more complicated - you have to run it with a real terminal.
Try to run "xterm -e top". You can find an example how to run an external program
from java code in cnd/gdb module on http://cnd.netbeans.org
For example, take a look at openExternalProgramIOWindow() method on this page:

Issue with Executing OS commands from Stored Procedure

I am trying to execute the scripts provided at :

provided by xtender user.
As required, I have asked my DBAs to grant privileges by executing the following scripts:

The error I am facing when I try to execute the following command is:

Could anyone show me how to execute Linux command from Java app. For example, I have the need to execute the "ls" command from my Java app (which is running on the Linux machine), how should I write the codes?

You can use "built-in" shell commands, you just need to invoke the shell and tell it to run the command. See the -c switch in the man page for your shell. But, "ls" isn't built-in anyays.
If you use exec, you will want to set the directory with the dir argument to exec, or add it to the command or cmdarray. See the API for the variants of java.lang.Runtime.exec(). (If you're invoking it repeatedly, you can most likely modify a cmdarray more efficiently than having exec() decompose your command).
You will also definitely want to save the returned Process and read the output from it (possibly stderr too and get an exit status). See API for java.lang.Process. Here's an example

Look in the Runtime class, it is implemented using the Singleton design pattern so you have to use the static method getRuntime to get its only instance, on that instance you can invoke methods like
exec(String command) that will execute that command in a dos shell.

I need a little help with the following command. Im new to PS and I have found this command but it is only one user at a time. I need to be able to update ALL users in AD.
My goal is this. Someone before me set all Users Home numbers to 1234567899 and I need to remove that and leave it blank. The command below allows me to do that but only one user at a time by entering their SAMID.
Is there a way to do this for everyone in AD ?
Set-AdUser –Identity SAMID –HomePhone $NULL

Please help with executing a java program from another java program

Hi, I have tried to execute a very simple java program which is printed out "Hello world" from another java gui program when the user click on the "START" button. However, I don't receive any print out on the terminal when they click it. These two programs are being developed in Unix environment. Here is the code that I am trying to use.
Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
r.exec("java HelloWorld");
p.s. HelloWorld is java class of the HelloWorld.java

I think you have to luanch your MS Prompt first before executing the command.

Problem with executing SPARQL command using jdbc or jena in Java

I am new to Oracle and SPARQL, so I'm sorry if my question is the elementry one!
select s, p, o from table(SEM_MATCH( '(?s ?p ?o) (?s <htt...> ?o) ', SEM_Models('OWlTEST'), null, null, null ))
I have an SPARQL command which runs on Oracle correctly and returns 8 Rows. So far so good!
I tried two ways to use this command in java code:
Using java.sql.jdbc
stmt = conn.createStatement();
rs = stmt.executeQuery(...the whole command above ....);
if (rs.next()){
System.out.println(rs.getString("O"));
Problem: resultset returns only One row, which is the first row, althogh in debug mode I can see validRow=8!!!
Using com.hp.hpl.jena
Model model = ModelFactory.createDefaultModel();
String queryStr = "PREFIX : <.....> SELECT ?s ?p ?o FROM <...> WHERE {?s prefix:property ?o}";
Query query = QueryFactory.create(queryStr);
QueryExecution qexec = QueryExecutionFactory.create(query, model);
com.hp.hpl.jena.query.ResultSet results = qexec.execSelect();
for (;results.hasNext();) {
Problem: it returns nothing!!

I don't know about SPARQL not about jena, but for Java you need to change:
{code}
if (rs.next()) {..
{code}
to
{code}
while (rs.next()) {..
{code}
Otherwise you just fech and see only first row.

Executing System Commands In Java

I am not sure if this is a bug � or I am just doing this wrong. I have
written a program to move files into ~/.trash/ . My problem is that this
works only for files without spaces � but for files with spaces it will
not work. Some of my code is below.

As an example I tried � this with a file that has a space � and I get
the following output.
The command would be -- mv "/home/masca/WORK/Text File"
"/home/masca/.trash/Text File_2005.04.17_04hrs:25mins:36secs"
However the file remains without being moved.
I cannot understand why the mv command does not work in java. If I
manually copy this to the command line I can get the file to work. It
should be noted that this program works perfectly if the file does not
have a space.

Use File.separator or simply / instead of Windows

- SaishI think OP is on a unix machine, and he still needs to escape the spaces. The escape character is, of course, a back-slash.
Depending on the shell (my experience is with bash), to execute the command mv Test File.txt newTest File.txt, the file names either need to be double-quoted so that the command shell will treat them as a single token (I think that will work), or the spaces need to be escaped (I know that will work). In java, to include a single \ in a literal String, you need to escape the escape character, which is why I think two \\ are needed in the String, so that one will survive to be passed on to the exec command.
