Help with filling a background

I have photoshop elements 5.0 and I primarily want to use it to create my own custom scrapbooks. Before, I had used microsoft powerpoint. Powerpoint had a very easy way to fill in my backgrounds. You selected background-->fill-->texture-->file. This allowed me to select a custom background tile from my picture documents to fill the entire background. I don't see this feature in photoshop.
I do see a fill layer option which prompts you to select a pattern. I tried to load my own custom pattern but was unable to find any files with the .pat extension. Please help me figure out how to fill in my backgrounds using graphics from my own files.

I use a resolution of 300 for my projects, but I keep them on a portable hard drive and off my c drive.
I think you probably want a resolution of at least 200 if you are planning to print. Check your printer documentation.
If space is a problem you might want to keep just a jpg of your finished page on your hard drive and save the original layered psd (or tif) off line on dvd or cd.

Help with exporting gradient background as jpg

Hi there! I'm totally new to this forum & very new to
fireworks, so go easy on me!
I am designing for QVGA smartphone/PPc screens & find
that when I create a gradient in fireworks MX (version 6) &
then export it as a jpg, on the phone/PPC screen the gradient is
filled with big blocks of colour rather than smooth transitions
between them, making the overall effect more like lines or blacks
of colour than a smooth gradient. I am exporting the jpgs at the
highest quality settings (100%).
Can someone help? Is it just my lack of technique when
blending colours? If so is there a tutorial somewhere? Or can I
export in a different format? The screens I design are controlled
by an xml layout file, & will accept .jpg, .gif & .bmp

Yes, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, the bit depth
could be the
issue. Try setting your monitor to 16 bit and experiment with
gradients
at that bit depth. Keep the color range and the tonal range
less extreme
(light blue to dark blue for example, rather than white to
dark blue)
similar an you might be able to get something a little more
pleasing.

Help With Photoshop CS4 + background image

So I'm trying to edit this background image for my myspace page, it looked fine in photoshop cs4, even when I previewed the image with the save to web and devices , the image looks fine. I also saved the iamge with the highest quality settings I could as a JPG. But when I add it to my myspace page the image becomes blurry , it's hard to see everything

I know it's not the code becuase the code is exactly the same , the only thign I changed was the image adress. The only part of the iamge i changed in cs4 was the logos, i didnt change the iamge size its stil lthe same.

Need Help with Filling in Created Object

I'm trying to fill in this object with a solid color I created just using the arc tool. However, what happens when I use the default fill and stroke tool is that it fills in the shape of the arc rather than just inside the object
Can someone help me figure out how to fill in just inside the object? I have CS6. Thanks

In addition to what Doug said, your screenshot says that you have two paths meeting in the middle. You can just select them and Ctrl/Cmd+J (I think). In earlier versions you needed to Direct Select one set of coinciding end Anchor points (the top or bottom set (dragging over only them after having deselected everything), and then you could (normal) select the whole path and Ctrl/Cmd+J to join the other set.

Help with fill, in shape tool?

InDesign CS 4.
When I drag a new rectangle it always fills with a fade from left to right with a border line that fades as well. It's the same with elipses or polygons.
Trying to change the fill, or the line color has no effect.
I don't know how I got this turned on and I can't figure out how to turn is off.
I'm in the middle of a job, I need to get this fixed.

Here is the image...
As you can see it works fine if I open a new document.
If I open any of the pages then the problem comes back.\
So somehow what ever is happening is encoded into the documents.
I also noticed that the shapes created are transparent.
When I overlapped it with another box I could see it underneath.
Well since it works fine in Windows 7 I'll just finish the job using it and hope that it doesn't happen on the next job.
Weird that it works in Windows 7 and suddenly not in Windows 8.
And if it's an error in the file why does it not open the same in 7.

Need help with filling circle with circular fill animation

Hello, I'm creating an old fashioned movie countdown
animation but I'm not sure how to approach filling a circle with a
radar-like sweep.
If anyone has any sort of clue how to do this I would
appreciate your help. It can be a timeline based animation or an
ActionScript based animation. Either way is fine with me.
I looked on the internet for tutorials but couldn't find

Having trouble with something pretty basic (I thought)...
How do I fill a shape (rectangle, circle, etc) that I create on a Title from the toolbar?
When I select one of the shape tools, I can create one in the Title area but I can't figure out how to fill it with color.
Tried COLOR PROPERTIES but FILL is not 'active'.
Appreciate some enlightenment on this.

My mistake... OOPS!
I selected a TITLE that must have had a transparent background (BLUENOTES_LWR_THIRD).
I usually start by selecting any TITLE then deleting the default graphics in it to create a black b/g.
From there, I make copies of the b/g and use those for my custom titles (Intro, end, etc.) which I add TEXT to.
Once I selected GENERIC1_TITLE, and deleted the default graphics, I was able to add RECTANGLE to it
and modify the fill color.
I know there's probably an easier/better way to create titles; just haven't had the time to 'explore' more.

Help with Web Template background color

Hi,
i'm trying to change by HTML code the background color of a template but it behaves incosistently.
when putting:
<body bgcolor=#000000 ...
the template is white in the background, but with:
<br>
<body bgcolor=#000000 ...
the template is black.
Plus when i see the final code generated in the web result, it seems that the server adds a bgcolor by his own, the code look like:
<body bgcolor=#ffffff bgcolor=#000000...
i think this could be what is causing the incosistence, but i can't find where is this property the server is adding to the template.

Hi Juan,
This could be because of the style sheet you are using. If you want to make a chnage to the colors etc, try doing that in your stylesheet. You can find the style sheets in SE80 in the BW system. You can find out the one being used from your web template properties.

By ArrayList do you mean the hashtable in your code?
Because a hastable is not the same as an arraylist....
For one thing your hashtable is wrong...
The first parameter you pass in a put method is a key, the second is an object...
When you want to get the object from the hashtable you pass it the key.... like so:
hash.put("Str1", new Double(8));
Double l_Double = (Double)hash.get("Str1");With an ArrayList you don't use keys by the way...

Help With Editing The Background Color On PHP-Based Photo Gallery Software!

If you've set up your site definition properly in
Dreamweaver, you should
be able to copy the table in design view from home.html and
paste into
gallery/index.php and DW will correct the paths
automatically. It /might/
even copy the relavent JavaScript over (I don't have DW on
this computer to
test that).
But to answer your question, any path to the images must
point to the site
root (where your images are stored). The links will likely
need to point
there as well. For example, the Home button in your table
gets its image
from:
src="Home Navigation Home01.png"
In order for that to work from pages in the gallery folder,
it will need to
be linked with either a site root relative, or a simple
relative path:
src="/Home Navigation Home01.png"
The above example tells the server to look for the image in
the site's root
folder.
src="../Home Navigation Home01.png"
This example tells the server to get the image from one
folder up from the
current folder.
Likewise for the links. ie: href="Home.html" would become
either
href="/Home.html" or href="../Home.html"
href="phpBB3/index.php" could become href="/phpBB3/index.php"
or even
href="/phpBB3/"

Help with filling form!

I've recently filled a contract and now the form will let me type everywhere except for the ONE line that I need to type in!! Why is it locked on just that one line? It keeps highlighting the two lines above it and there is a blue box around the text on the two fillable lines above it.
