Help with Freezing? (eMac OS 9.2)
Hi Everyone,
I'm a bit of a PC guy, but I'm working as a contractor for a local private school that has a pair of eMacs which need repair. One of them, I've found from the research I've done, most likely has a fried logic board. The other one is running OS 9.2 using Kidsdesk, which is a piece of software that overlays finder and only allows kids access to the games listed under each grade. The problem is, this machine keeps freezing up under normal use from the students, and I have no idea what to do. I've considered wiping the machine and reinstalling OS 9.2, but I have no idea where I could obtain a disk for it in 2011. Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips for this machine, or hints on where I can obtain a legal disc for OS 9.2 other than Craigslist or similar?

Hard to tell what might be causing it to freeze up without more symptoms. Are there any specific conditions under which it freezes? Something like following a specific action or set of actions by the user... always within the same program... etc.
If you boot it with Extensions Off, does it still freeze up? To do that, restart or boot, press the Shift key and keep it held down until the desktop appears.
How full is the hard drive?
Re a replacement install CD, all eMacs which are OS 9 bootable can boot only to OS 9.2.2. Since there is no retail version of OS 9.2.2, you will need to use only the original model-specific disk that came with such a machine when it was new. They're not easy to find.
You may be able to acquire or borrow such a disk from an Apple User Group near you - most large cities and universities have one.

Ok, so my iPod works fine when it is connected to the computer, but it dies as soon as I disconnect it. The screen slices diagonally and freezes, and the picture slowly fades away.
My computer says its fully charged, and I've tried resetting it and putting it into Disk mode, but still no luck. And it has been charging for quite a while now. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!
Oh, and when I re-plug it into the computer, I have to re-select the language, as if it totally resets. It does this even when I dont reset it. By the way, I only reset it when its plugged into the computer, because it doesnt work at all when it isnt plugged in.

Need help with freezing...please respond!
I just got my reconditioned ipod mini yesterday. The problem is that at the main menu the scrolling mechanism works (thumb rotation), but the select button does not (I can't get into any submenus). I called Apple support, and they said to reset. I did this; the mini worked OK once, but then started to freeze up again, and now, no matter how many times I reset, it doesn't help...I'm stuck at the main screen, and the select button won't do anything. The apple support guy says he has to reset his mini 2-3x a week, but I've been able to make my ipod work only once or twice, and I've had it a day. PLEASE HELP.
I keep trying that too...doesn't seem to help. Have tried plugging it into the AC adapter and resetting; doensn't help. Updated my ipod/itunes software; doesn't help. I don't want to try restarting the ipod; I just spent 6 hours putting music on itunes today, and don't know how to create a backup...and I read the restart instructions and don't know how to do all of the steps. Its amazing to me that this unit works so poorly literally the first day out of the box. How disappointing.

Ok recently I've replaced the screen on my 3gs, and when I've come to reboot its stuck on the apple logo with loading circle. I've put phone in dfu and installed everything over and over and it seems to install fine but then stuck on the apple again.

I don't know enough about these codes to do anything about it without advice. It seems there is a problem with Kerberos(?) which I think is something to do with computer security.

But, have you done this.....
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them.
Then Repair Permissions.

Same here, have the same problem with my new GT72 currently on windows 8.1.
The freezes happen randomly and the system reboots eventually after some time.
Happened for me on:

Sometimes when I use freeze frame the still image is great. Other times it is fine when rendered but then blurry on a DVD.
Is there a way to create a single frame still from a video clip?

Help with Premiere Pro freezing after importing MPEG files

had some files sent for me to edit which are MPEG I believe. They will import, but
as soon as I try and do anything with it, the whole thing freezes for several minutes! It is unworkable. I have tried waitin
g for the audio file to conform. I have tried rendering the work area. None of this helps. If it does play, it lasts for a few seco
nds with sound playing at what appears to be twice the speed! I normally wortk with DV files and these are fine. By the way, the files I am struggling with do play in media player/real player etc. I cant believe that premiere would not support this format. Even Movie Maker just about manages it! When it does freeze, it really freezes! As in it wont even let me shut down without literally ripping out the power cable!! Please help with simple English if possible, and sorry if I havent given you specifics that you would need. But I honmestly dont know as these were just files sent to me on a memory stick. It was filming from a camcorder, but not sure what type. The thumbnail says MPEG and the properties just says movie file. It is about 2GB for an hour I think. Thanks for any help. Photoshop is split-screening & freezing causing me to lose work? "Support" did not help with this.
I have Photoshop CS5 and the problem started about a week ago.
I opened an image, got 3/4s of the way through it, and the computer screen "split into two" and froze. Causing me to shut down my computer, entirely, and lose an hour and half's worth of work. I shut my computer down, completely and did a full system reboot, and tried again. This time I didn't even get a full step into editing before the same thing occured.
Worried, I had contacted Apple Support because I thought it might have been something with the video card. After putting me through various tests, all of which turned up clean, Apple said it was something that showed it wasn't with Mac, it was with CS5 itself (or at least with Adobe's Photoshop application). They told me to try calling Adobe. However, they only have certain hours, so I tried chat support - which was hysterical, becuase they kept sending me over here to the forums. (Apple's support takes much better care of their customers, I've noticed, at least when it comes to full "chat support".) Anyways, I had given this computer a break for a day or two, completely shut off. Today, I turned it on, and the same thing happened. Opened a .Raw image, got it into the Photoshop main screen, got a step into editing, had the computer screen split again, and freeze.
I would greatly appreciate anyone's help with this subject. I have been unable to work for about a week, which is completely devastating to someone who runs their own business. Advice, or thoughts?You say it only happens when you work on raw. Is this only when you’re using the Camera Raw plug-in? If you work on a small JPG in the ACR plug-in, does it happen?
Have you tried turning off the OpenGL acceleration in PS / Preferences / Performance as Mylenium suggested?
I would agree it sounds like a video hardware failure, due to it locking up your computer. Do you have a way to photograph and share what the screen looks like when it is locked up? -

What can I do to boot?Restart with the Option key held down.
If the internal drive shows up, it's the PRAM battery.
If it doesn't, insert a compatible Mac OS 9 or X install disk, click the button with the circular arrow, and either repair the internal drive or install a new OS on it. If it doesn't show up in Disk First Aid(9) or the Disk Utility(X), it's either not plugged in or needs to be replaced.

Does anyone have any advice for an iPhone that is consistently freezing? When this occurs a white flickering bar appears across the top of the phone and the phone becomes unresponsive to touch. This happens randomly but frequently and lasts from a few seconds to a few minutes.

After reviewing your post, it sounds as though your device is frequently becoming unresponsive. I have located an article that can help with software issues. Have you attempted to restore the device to factory settings without restoring from a backup? Test the issue on a new installation, and make sure that it works. Then use the same article to restore from your backup to either verify it still works, or isolate the issue to the backup itself.

I'm new right here, and i'm not very good at english, but I have problems with my eMac so I hope that someone can help me!
When I boot my Emac there's a screen that says:'
'to continye booting, type 'mac-boot' and press return.'
When I typed mac-boot I pressed enter(because I don't know the return-button) and then I get this screen:
'panic(cpu0): Unable to find driver for this platform: PowerMac6,4'
and other text with a lot of numbers.
Also in that screen stands:
'you need to restart your computer. hold the power button for several seconds or press the restart button'
I hold the power butten for several seconds and I put the computer on again, but than I'm getting the same texts&things.
So, can anyone help me, or do I have to go to the Macstore?(Does anybody know how much that costs?)

You may be able to get 10.4 Tiger disks from an Apple store, but that depends on where you live. Apple usually only sells their latest OS which is currently 10.5 Leopard, but I would think your eMac would be best with 10.4 Tiger. If you can get them from an Apple store, ask if they give a student discount if you are eligible as that can be a saving.
Normally every Mac, _new or used has its own disks,_ including an Apple Hardware Test CD. These disks are useful if you want to reinstall your operating system, but also useful for diagnostics and and some software repairs. The thing is, you could get hold of some disks and still find your machine has something broken in the hardware, and you will have spent money on the disks for nothing.
It would be better to determine if the computer is fixable before you purchased any OS disks.
Do you know anyone with an Apple computer who has some disks you could borrow? Or do you know someone who has an iBook which you could use in
FireWire target disk mode to connect the two together , and use the Disk utility in the iBook to run a test on your hard drive.
Even without a disk, you could still try starting up your computer in single user mode and perform some of the steps in this article.
