Help with GeForce 8400 GS on K9A Platinum

Hello,
I changed my video card to PNY GeForce 8400 GS, the machine boots up fine but doesn't look like the video card is being recognized properly. I get only 800x600 and the colors are all messed up. In Device Manager, when I click on the video card it says "Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. ... (Code 35)". I have the latest drivers from NVIDIA, I just updated my BIOS to the latest version (1.9), but still the same problem.

Corsair 2GB DDR2
Samsung DVD RW Drive
Antec Truepower Trio PSU 550W

Sounds like there could be a conflict with the old driver fragments from the X1900 GT. Uninstall all graphics drivers, run >>Driver Sweeper<< and this time install the graphics drivers supplied by MSI.

Help with Geforce 8400GS

Hello archlinux! I need a little advice. I'm using nvidia-proprietary drivers with a geforce 8400GS, the card has a tv-out via s-video, a quick scan of Xorg.0.log shows that "nvidia tv encoder" is listed as a connected display device on GeForce 8400 as (TV-0) (it also lists my acer LCD). -- my problem: In gnome system settings (gnome-shell/3.4) in details it shows graphics: unknown", and in gnome 3 display settings it only recognizes my acer LCD monitor. I can get multihead working using nvidia-settings to make an xorg.conf(twinview), but is this the proper/only way to do this? it seems Xorg is detecting/loading my TV-out without an xorg.conf file? ...
Shouldn't I see my second display/TV in gnome system settings and be able to just enable it if things are set up properly?

NOTE: Using twinview, and nvidia-settings as root to generate an xorg.conf works fine, I just have a feeling that there is a better(newer) way to accomplish this with the proprietary drivers, especially considering the way that large xorg.conf files have been deprecated in favor of hal/evdev stuff, and how they are now separated in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d, It seems like I should be able to do something a little more simple in 10-monitor.conf file like add a screen section only Vs. a giant/full xorg.conf file generated by nvidia-settings.
Lastly, I can't play fullscreen flash videos @ youtube(or anywhere else) on my second screen (TV-0) using twinview and work on my first/main LCD, as the flash-beta 11.2 from AUR loses focus whenever I click an icon on my main LCD. There are fixes for this for flash focus issue on windows that relate to modifying a DLL file, but I can't find a fix for flash on linux. Supposedly adobe added this functionality in flash 10.2 but it's not working for me.
Is this fullscreen issue because I am using proprietary drivers & twinview? would using the nouveau drivers & xinerama fix this flash losing focus problem?
In the meantime I have been using a firefox add on that automatically opens flash movies in totem and starts playing them, but this is not ideal as doing things like playing a playlist on youtube is not possible, and obviously embedded video links and things of that sort on youtube don't show in totem, etc.

nvidia-settings is the proper and clean way to make changes to your display settings. You don't need a xorg.conf file and your displays should be correctly autodetected, but I feel X loads up faster with a xorg.conf in place. I use Xfce4 and my LCD monitor is simply detected as "default". Not sure about the flash issue, just a guess, do you have hardware acceleration enabled? check in /etc/adobe/mms.cfg and if it is enabled I would set it to 0 (off!) and see if that would fix the issue.

HP m9040n with GeForce 8400 GS

Have m9040n as subject line states, this unit comes with a GeForce 8400 GS graphics card and I wanted to upgrade to a GeForce 240 with 1 Gig of DDR3 memory. Got a Galaxy brand card and it states on the box the requirement of a minimum 300 Watt power supply but when calling the company because the fan didn't run they told me that I really need a 450 Watt power supply. Has anyone upgraded their power supply to be able to use a higher graphics card? Or has anyone here been able to upgrade their graphics card over the GeForce 8400GS card. Looking for graphics which will make game playing much better.

Click on Specifications tab and scroll down to Thermal and Power Specs...it states that this video card needs only 300W power supply.
Your unit m9040n comes with 300W power supply....you should be able to use this video card on your Pavilion desktop without any issues.

Need help with drive installation for K9N2 SLI Platinum

This is my 6th computer build and first time using SATA and PCIe

The board set up fine, but I can’t figure out how to install my drives. The MSI directions are the worse I’ve ever seen, or should I say non-existent. They don’t even describe the bios entries… I am familiar with the bios, but don’t know all the settings for the board. I set the time and date and had to rearrange my drive placement on the board to have my 2 DVD drives show up on the secondary IDE Channel instead of the primary IDE. The Western Digital 200MB7200 ATA133 is on the primary master IDE. I’m old fashioned so I still use FDISK to erase the old OS and partition the drive… I couldn’t see my SATA drive in FDISK even though I could see it in the bios. Now I want my Western Digital 500GB 7200RPM 16MB SATA II HARD DRIVE to be the system drive and the Western Digital 200MB7200 ATA133 to be a slave drive. My previous boards had raid but I just used them as additional slave drives.
My goals: I want to have redundancy for my personal audio/video and my work. I will use the 2 Seagate 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB SATA drives for that.
I also want 2 additional drives not purchased yet for my other data storage needs and for games
My questions are:
Can I use the SATA drive as the system drive if a drive is connected to the primary IDE?
How do I set up Raid on this board? I actually want to use its capabilities this time.
Does this board present any special problems with dual booting XP sp2 and Vista 64bit.
If I put another set of Corsair XMS2 TWIN2X4096-6400C5 in anticipation of installing Vista 64bit will this cause a problem other than windows XP not seeing the additional memory.
Is there additional documentation for this board somewhere?
Please help…I have been working on this thing for 4 days straight. My last build took 2 hours not including software installation. Hope I stated everything you need to know. Thanks in advance

Advice no. 1 will be not to have everything connected at once. Have the chosen SATA and one of the DVD:s connected and install Windows. (Windows can only boot from bootable devices. It "jumps" all un-bootable.) Once you have a successful boot and happy with it, remove other things from the boot-sequence.

Help with geforce 5700 msi video problems

im getting video problems with msi geforce 5700 td 128 im not using the drivers supplied with the card because it messed up my system and couldnt run different res and colours. im using nvidias latest drivers instead. i dont have probs running games and such but the problem comes from playing videos. i tried many types of players and it seems that everytime i play something, it becomes very white and the colours dont match right they warp and such.. please help me

My problem.
I'm working on a PC for a doctor friend. It's a Gateway P4 dual 3.0 gHz "Media Center" unit.
He let the antivirus proggie lapse and it was full of spybots, trojans and some missing stuff his kids (he says) had done (little kids like to click on stuff and he has 4 kids under 6 years old...).
Anyway, I needed to re-install the whole system back to the original state. GW2K docs seemed to make that a piece of cake.
Everything went well until the turkeys at GW2K threw me a curve - their CD re-install system just stinks. The CDs don't seem to AUTOSTART very well, the OS looks different than original (fo example - just plain ole XP Home instead of the neat-looking "Media Center" branding on the startup splash page), and then I got to a real problem.
The SB0360 Audigy 2 ZS (Platinum Pro, I think) driver from GW2K installed OK, but the associated apps CD keeps spitting back that it doesn't find a "Sound Blaster" card.
The Device Manager says its a Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS.
I've tried to use updates from CL but they also spit at me - "No Sound Blaster found, Exiting".
It seems that the Plug and Play only likes the GW2K driver, but the Apps CD don't like the "Creative" part, and so it balks. The CL drivers give the same message.
GW2K tells me to contact Creative Labs or (haaaa) SAM'S, the purchasing store.
Talk about the royal runaround...
Anyway, anyone got any good ideas?
I can't seem to find anything on the net to help.
I'm about Google-ed out.

I do have sound, Music CDs play fine and Windows sounds work OK.
I just need to install those Audigy Apps from the GW2K CD...

Need help with a SB live 5.1 Platinum card.

Hi all. I'm running an XP-SP2 system, and I've tried un-installing and re-installing this soundcards software at least 3 times. Everytime I get through, reboot, and look in sbli've folder for the Soundfont Manager.. its not there or it cant be located in AudioHQ. To make matters worse, theres No AudioHQ item in the control panel. This last time around, I spent over an hour using a registry cleaner to remove all the soundcards old entries, hoping to re-install next time with some advice - without a hitch - from scratch.
What could I be doing wrong?
I tried the Full Installation mode this last time.
Does this item require a separate installation from everything else?
In the SFBank folder on the CD there appears to be some kind of setup, but when you click it nothing happens.

Try go to The Sound Manager (window sound setting) then see is your sound card is selected as your default driver or application!
if it doesnt listed there, i dont think the driver is being installed.
lastly, COME ON MAN, WINDOW 2000?? format a new copy of window and see how it goes.

Where should I go from the K9A Platinum?

I am getting ready for the Windows 7 transition and although my board itself should not have any issues with Windows 7(x64), my VGA cards are incompatible with the WDDM driver that drives Win7...very sleek BTW.
So, with that in mind, Im ready to step up to the x4 (or more) cores with DDR3 memory, yet I can noly find two or three AMD chipset boards that have onbaord VGA...which I will need if I want to use my system by the time I can afford a VGA card two. I would like one that the onbaod VGA is Hybrid Crossfire but not a nessecity.
I have been WAY impressed with the stability of my baord, other than the pain of removing all my RAM cept one stick to reset my BIOS...what a pain.
Anyhow, what MSI boards are FULLY Win7 compliant, and is that going to increase soon...I will by other components first...ie. memory, HDD, etc.

Have all W7 drivers, why the need to certify a board?
If you mean they work with Windows 7, yes all new MSI boards do.
I dont know if it was my 1950RadeonPro's or not buit I could not boot to safe mode via my K9a. None the less, its still time to UPGRADE...YAAAY!
They did have two boards from my memory that were stamped Win7, so I was just wondering if anymore are slotted in the next few months...I would hate to go with somone else as this K9A Platinum has been VERY stable but my brother is in more need of this particular set than me, and I can deal with onboard VGA now.
So all in all, maybe this thread can die off for a month or two, Im not ready RIGHT THIS MOMENT to buy but am looking at all options so when I am, I pick another winner.
---about the onlt thing I dodnt like about the K9A is every time you re-fresh the BIOS, or wipre CMOS, its a pain of removing memorry sticks then putting them back in. Unless I missed the work around for that. But its still been the best computing experience Iv had since leaving the Corps.

I BUILD the system a few moths ago, in the first two moths everything was just runing nice and smooth, and suddenly the system didnt post me at all, for no reason, i mean, the last time i used i did turn it off like allways, i did try a few things, like test the procesor, memorys and video card in a friends pc, and everything was ok, them i did rebuild it and the same problem, a few hours latter, it just start... and everything work fine, i experienced the same problem a couple of more time, but a week ago give me the same problem again and nothing yet
the problem in question is
I pressed the power button, I got the LEDs, and fans on for about a second, then poof, dead again. I pressed the power button, and nothing happens. If I unplug and plug the power cord back in, it happens all over again, no sounds, no leds, no fans, even the PSU fans are dead, nothing on the screen, some one says the may be the ram, but i dont think so cuz i try it with other diferent module and didnt work, and with out the ram at all, and the same problem, and if the ram were the problem at least without any of it, the system will let me know the is not ram place it, with a sound alarm or something like that !!! i think .... well i Really hope the some one can help me please and thks

thks, i allready try with two diferent PSU one of those PSU i use in a system the runs a EVGA X280 as u know is far more energy demanding tham the x1950pro, and about the OVER HEAT, well i did try it in an other mobo and runs just find, i did check the fan just in case, but all of these seens to be ok, and i been serching for an ansewers about this problem and theres some few other pple the have the same problem...

K9A Platinum with PCI VIA 6421A SATA Controller

Hi everyone, I have a problem, I was using a VT6421A VIA Sata Controller with K9A Platinum FW 1.1 without any problems, I upgraded to 4 GB of RAM with Vista x64 then flashed the motherboard 1.7 firmware, mother recognizes full 4 GB of Ram. After upgrade firmware to 1.7, PCI VIA Sata controller doesn't recognizes both Pioneer 112D attached to it, before firmware update it was working perfectly.
I'm using RAID configuration in the motherboard, could be a problem betwen the motherboard's RAID and the VIA SATA Raid controller?
Since the upgrade to 1.7 firmware, POST doesn't show the VIA Controller menu with the attached devices, Windows Vista can see the card installed but no drives attached to it :(
Any help will be much appreciated!

Yes name of option is correct, but think its not available in BIOS if im correct.
Can you test with 2GB of memory only to see if the problem will be duplicated there too?

K9A Platinum help

Hi! I have the same problem as you did, my K9A aint POSTing... My spec is:
K9A platinum
AM2 X2 6400+ BE
TWIN2X2048-6400C5 (5-5-5-12 800MHz)
Sapphire HD 3850 256 MB
Apevia 500W PSU
Anyone believe it can be the same reason, that the memory timings aint set right?
I've tryed these things in other ppls computers:
GPU: OK
RAM: OK
PSU: OK
Everything starts (fans, dvd, hdd etc...), but the monitor is black... i've tryed the monitor in another comp too, and it works together with my GPU...
It says the 6400+ processor should be supported from v1.7, but i don't know what BIOS i've installed since i can't see anything. Can this also cause the problem, wrong BIOS version i mean. Any other ideas? i've tryed installing everything out of the case with only GPU, CPU, Ram and MB... with PSU connected ofc . I've sent the MB back to the retailer and they tested it OK... i've no idea what spec they used and if they flashed my BIOS, but probably they didn't. Any help would be appreciated, i'm getting kinda desperate.

K9A Platinum with 2 Sapphire X1650XT crossfired but CCC will not see them?

A Newbie here, so sorry if I sound thick. I have a K9A Platinum with 2 X1650XT DDR3 installed and windows see's them both but ATI Catalyst Control Centre tells me the interconnect cable are not attached?? Both the cables are connected (ATI Genuine). I have installed all the latest drivers and checked that my bios is up to date, I only built/purchased the parts 4 days ago.
Hope you guys can help??

HI AaronYuri, thanks for the response but I have tried the cards switched and the cables swapped/reversed, I have tested the cards on there own in the board, I have just noticed that when I do system information it can see the both cards on the board but it only give me the memory information for one of the cards, not sure if this is relevant but assume that because I am using the main card for my display the others is not being used.

I need some help with my system, actually I'm having troubles with my machine, often it restarts or freezes so I have to restart it manually.I own a MSI K7n2 Delta2 Platinum, AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 1 GB DDR-400 CORSAIR, ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB AGP. Recently I did a clean install of Windows XP but usually I work for an hour and suddenly it restarts, and after logging in, Windows reports a log event problem; I think I have this problem because of the drivers, so I would like you to help me. Where I can get the best/last drivers for the mainboard and video card? Should I flash the bios? Is common this kind of problems? Help me please.

Again prob with K9A Platinum BIOS ....

After the 1.5 BIOS of the K9A Platinum , BIOS went downhill .... I'm not using either 1.6 or 1.7 now cause my 8800GTX doesn't run ok.It seems it runs downclocked.For example when 3Dmark06 starts , with 1.5 i have 65FPS , with 1,6 and 1.7 i have 37FPS .I had in the past opened a thread here having that prob and in the end it was the BIOS.I was really hoping the 1.7 would solve this issue , but no ... And except that i have an AMD X2 5200+ and i wonna put extra voltage to o/c it but 1.25 is way low.My pc posts just fine in the beginning but doesn't boot on windows.I really think that if the highest vcore voltage value to set to M/B was 1.5 i would be able to o/c my CPU and boot in windows.Hope 1.8 will fix those probs ...

Stick with the BIOS that works best!
BIOS versions are NOT updates! they are bug-fixes....
Newer revisions doe not nessesary offer better OC or better workings...
Also, do not count on too much OC fixes, as they don't make new revisions to solve OC problems.
(They might, but normaly not)
So go back to 1.5
