Help with Image format

I have some graphics that were created in Photoshop with an
alpha channel for transparency and I need to insert them in my
Captivate project. What file format should I use to insert them in
Captivate? (Or perhaps the question is, CAN they be inserted in
Captivate?)
Thank you in advance!

Hi again
Admittedly you have me on that one! I'm no graphics expert. I
know probably enough to be dangerous.
I'd suggest trying a 32 bit image and see. At the worst, it
won't render very well or possibly it will reject it outright. You
may need to adjust the image quality settings for a higher quality.
You do this in two places.
1. Edit slide properties and click the Quality drop-down.
There you may choose between Standard, Optimized, JPEG or High
Quality.
2. Edit Project Preferences by clicking Project >
Preferences... > Preferences tab. There you may configure JPEG
image quality.
Please do report back with what you discover regarding "32
bit quality" so we all may learn.
Hope this helps... Rick

  • Help with images format

    I'm creating some images with transparent background to
    publish on a website using dreamweaver. The problem that I have is,
    if I publish in a png format it's a bigger in size and when I'm
    going to print the site in color the image doesn't print. If I use
    the jpg format the transparent background become white but it can
    be printed.

    Is that a PNG file you have saved or exported? It's important
    to export
    it as a PNG file. JPEG format doesn't allow for transparency.

  • Help with image ready on ps3 extended

    I am pretty new to photo shop and have cs3 extended.
    I have a Yorkie website where I cut out my Yorkies and paste them to differnet backgrounds.... a lady that does the ANIMATED pictures  HAS DID A COUPLE FOR ME ....BUT I NEED TO LEARN TO DO THIS MYSELF.  She will not tell folks how to do:)
    The problem is once you work with a pic that is animated already then try to  add a dog.....by pasting....it removes the animation in the background pic.... and the picture no longer moves once the dog is added ?....She said she puts thru IMAGE READY...which I do not see anywhere on CS3 extended.  I will try to insert a pic she did for me and any help would be greatly appreciated....as I can do but then the picture is no longer animated once altered in my photoshop but she is doing somehow.....so has to be poss ?  If I were to do this pic it would stop moving once the dogs were added....plus not as good as her but practicing........could it be the fact she is doing in layers and I am doing copy and paste...I do know she puts thru Image ready and I do not know where this is located on cs3 extended or how to do?

    I'm not sure anyone mentioned this but if not to open GIFs using the import you have to enter the GIF name as GIF isn't listed as one of the options.
    It sounds like you are viewing the images in a maximized screen mode. To view more than one document, press F to cycle through the screen modes. FYI, only the contents of the currently selected document can be viewed in the layers palette.
    I'll just talk about copy/paste so as not to confuse...
    If you are going to copy/paste, click the frame around the dog document to target it. Your layers palette will now contain the contents of the dog document. Click on the layer in the layers palette with the selected dog over transparency. With that layer highlighted in your layers palette, press Ctrl A; then Ctrl C. (Select<Select All; Edit<copy if you prefer using the menu.) This will copy that layer into your clipboard.
    Next, click the frame of the document containing the animation. Click the topmost layer in the layers palette because we want you dog to be in the top layer. Press Ctrl + V. (Edit<Paste if you prefer using the menu).
    Your dog is most likely going to be too big. Use Edit<Free Transform to size and move the dog to the desired location.
    At this point, your dog should be showing in each frame in the animation palette.
    Example:
    http://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/25315/with-palettes-open.jpg
    I'm using the older Image Ready me method. The highlighted place in the palette is where you switch methods between the old method and the new timeline. Notice, I have the layers and animation palette both in the workspace...and I'm not in a maximized mode. The red arrow shows the correlation between the frame and the layer represented by it in the layers palette.
    Image:second-image.jpg
    Here I have a second image to slip into my animation. I have the creature selected and on it's own layer with transparency around it. Notice that the the layer with the isolated creature is highlighted. At this stage, I'll press Ctrl + A; then Ctrl + C to select and save this image to my clipboard.
    Image:creature-added.jpg
    Here, I've pasted (Ctrl + V or Edit<Paste) in my creature and resized it (Ctrl + T or Edit<free transform) so he can be jumped. I also added a shadow under my creature which I added to a layer under my creature. Notice that when Frame on is selected in the animation palette that the eye is on both the creature and the shadow. If I click the eye to turn them (creature and shadow layer) off, they disappear from the entire animation. I can make them appear at any frame by clicking the desired frame in the animation then turning on the eye icon for the creature and shadow layer in the layers palette. I can also adjust opacity if desired.
    You could even more than the one image if you want the dog to appear to move. Use the eyeball visibility to determine which pose will be used for that frame.
    Example:
    Image:jump-creature-gif.gif
    Here, I used transform warp to adjust the pose of the creature for a few frames as he's jumping the creature...just for fun.

  • Help with images in Spry menus

    I need help making this work: I want my menu buttons and
    submenu buttons to be images rather than text. I've been able to
    set it up to use different images for each of the main and
    sub-level buttons, but only for the active state. I cannot figure
    out how to use a different set of "hover images" for the hover
    state. Note-- Each button and submenu button in the entire menu are
    different images, so I suspect I need to use different ID's for
    each, but I am not sure how to set that up in the
    SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css file for each different button in, at
    least, the active and hover states. Can anyone offer some help with
    this?:

    V1 - Thank you for the suggestion, but this does not exactly
    solve my dilemma. In its simplest terms, this is what I want to do:
    Create a single drop-down menu where there is "Item 1" with
    submenus "Item 1.1", "Item 1.2", and "Item 1.3". But, I want to use
    different images for each item and subitem in their Active and
    Hover states. So, in this example, there would be 8 different
    images... An Active and a Hover image for each of Item 1, Item 1.1,
    Item 1.2 and Item 1.3.

  • [CS3][JS] Help with image resizing

    I'm still a newbie of ID scripting.
    I'm using js scripting in Indesign CS3 to make an auto-impaginator and I have a problem with images.
    I charged my contents from an xml set of tables, that I put into a fixed textFrame of the master page.
    Because of the table needs to fill multiple pages, I made a function that keep creating pages and link the textFrames so that the table continues in various pages.
    In this whole process I have some images too, that I need to resize them to fill the cell, because now they pass the parent cell.
    I found a method that looks at the bounds and resizes the image and the rectangle too, but it doesn't work always, because if a image is overflowing, it hasn't any bound and it fails, and this causes other problems in my process, so I would find another method.
    So:
    Is there another way to resize an image on-the-way while importing it? Some xml attribute or preference?
    Or some method that works also if the image is overflowing?

    These forums are pointless. Adobe must believe that other users will cut the mustard. Absolutely a waste of effort for everyone. Adobe should PAY at least a junior developer involved in the projects to monitor and help with these posts. FLEX rules yeah and thousands more do scripting than develop plug ins...
    Come on Adobe, step up your better than this. Customer Service can be free to the customers ... we are not talking about GET IT ALL FREE, talking about buy it and create a community and support it, but then again LAYERS and INDESIGN SECRETS have people who actually want to help users rather than rabbit hole everything.

  • Urgent Help with Image Gallery

    Hi,
    I really need help with an image gallery i have created. Cannot think of a resolution
    So....I have a dynamic image gallery that pulls the pics into a movie clip and adds them to the container (slider)
    The issue i am having is that when i click on this i am essentially clicking on all the items collectively and i would like to be able to click on each image seperately...
    Please see code below
    var xml:XML;
    var images:Array = new Array();
    var totalImages:Number;
    var nbDisplayed:Number = 1;
    var imagesLoaded:int = 0;
    var slideTo:Number = 0;
    var imageWidth = 150;
    var titles:Array = new Array();
    var container_mc:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
    slider_mc.addChild(container_mc);
    container_mc.mask = slider_mc.mask_mc;
    function loadXML(file:String):void{
    var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
    xmlLoader.load(new URLRequest(file));
    xmlLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, parseXML);
    function parseXML(e:Event):void{
    xml = new XML(e.target.data);
    totalImages = xml.children().length();
    loadImages();
    function loadImages():void{
    for(var i:int = 0; i<totalImages; i++){
      var loader:Loader = new Loader();
      loader.load(new URLRequest("images/"+String(xml.children()[i].@brand)));
      images.push(loader);
    //      loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS,onProgress);
         loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,onComplete);
    function onComplete(e:Event):void{
    imagesLoaded++;
    if(imagesLoaded == totalImages){
      createImages();
    function createImages():void{
    for(var i:int = 0; i < images.length; i++){
      var bm:Bitmap = new Bitmap();
      bm = Bitmap(images[i].content);
      bm.smoothing = true;
      bm.x = i*170;
      container_mc.addChild(bm);
          var caption:textfile=new textfile();
          caption.x=i*170; // fix text positions (x,y) here
       caption.y=96;
          caption.tf.text=(xml.children()[i].@brandname)
          container_mc.addChild(caption);

    yes, sorry i do wish to click on individual images but dont know how to code that
    as i mentioned i have 6 images that load into an array and then into a container and i think that maybe the problem is that i have the listener on the container so when i click on any image it gives the same results.
    what i would like is have code thats says
    if i click on image 1 then do this
    if i click on image 2 then do something different
    etc
    hope that makes sense
    thanks for you help!

  • Help with images.....pliiiizzzzzz

    Im new to java and need help inserting images on a GUI! Does anyone have any programs or snippets of code that've done this successfully - preferrably using the GridBagLayout as well as in swing? If you have anything that works well, feel free to send me the entire java file ([email protected]) or just post it!

    Just create a JLabel with an image icon and you are able to display any JPEG and GIF image. You might take a look at the following:

  • Help with re-formatting a PDF for easy printing by anyone?

    Hello,
    I used a template to create a new professional resume, and edited this template in Adobe Fireworks CS3.  It looks good now, but when I try and create a PDF with it, I can't seem to figure out how to make sure it will print properly on a 8.5x11 without the document shrinking or getting skewed.  Can someone help or recommend a service that can optimize my PNG or PDF file to that whoever I send it to will be able to easily view and print it on most any computer?
    Thanks!

    Michael,
    Thanks for your response.  My OS is Leopard I believe, but am not at my computer right now.  I took a template from a website which must've been in PNG format, and the default application to edit it with was Fireworks I guess. I have it both in PNG and PDF format, I'll forward it to you if you have a minute to take a look.  My whole idea was to create a newer PDF resume with style/format that will stand out far above from my word resume (boring).
    Thanks,
    Jack

    In the future, Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
    Whenever i browse and select a .jpg it displays "to\[+pB3+pB3" You can read in a jpg file and treat it like a text file.

  • Help with Images Maps,

    Hi,
    I have an HTML page where an IMG is loaded:
    <img src="images/renders/Main_Image.jpeg" alt="Main Image" name="Main_IMG" width="800" height="600" border="0" usemap="#Main_MAP" id="Main_IMG" />
    Then I have 4 images maps laid on top of the image:
    <map name="Main_MAP" id="Main_MAP">
      <area shape="poly" coords="--some numbers--" href="Area1.html" target="_parent" alt="Area1 Button" />
      <area shape="poly" coords="--some numbers--" href="Area2.html" target="_parent" alt="Area2 Button"  />
      <area shape="poly" coords="--some numbers--" href="Area3.html" target="_parent" alt="Area3 Button" />
      <area shape="poly" coords="--some numbers" href="Area4.html" target="_parent" alt="Area4 Button"/>
    </map>
    See Example:
    Each area is essentially an invisible button. I want to make it so when the mouse hovers over the areas, I want the background image to display something different. On mouse out of the area, I want the image to go back. When the user clicks the Area, the user is moved to another part of the site.
    Area 1 should change Main_Image.jpeg to Main_Image1.jpeg
    Area 2 should change Main_Image.jpeg to Main_Image2.jpeg
    etc.
    I thought I could do this with Images Maps, but I can't figure out how. Is there an easier way? I have Dreamweaver CS4.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hey CF. Thank you very much for the reply! I thought I was losing my mind trying to figure out a way.
    I'll try out the slice and dice approach... where's a turtle when you need one.
    Cheers Dude.

  • Need help with adding formatted text and images to Crystal Report?

    Here's my scenario:
    I have a customer statement that's generated as a crystal report and that has a placeholder for advertisement. The advertisement is mixture of formatted text and images. Until now we only had one advertisement that was always used on the report. The new requirement is that we would have a pool of hundreds of advertisements and would need to display one specific advertisement on the customer statement based on various marketing criteria. They key is that the advertisement content will be determined programmatically and cannot be hardcoded into the report. I'm using Crystal2008 with .net SDK.
    Here are the solutions I thought of, but I'm still rather lost and would appreciate your help/opinion.
    1) Pass HTML or RTF to the report
    Not really sure if this is possible and how to get it done. Also how would I pass in images? Would display formatting be reliable when exporting to PDF?
    2) Create each add as a subreport and append it programatically
    I actually have this working, but I only know how to append a new section to the end of the report and then load the subreport to the section. I have no other controll of the placement. Is there a way to dynamically load a subreport to a predefined section in the main report? How about adding a dummy subreport in the main report as a placeholder and then replacing it with a different subreport? How could I do this?
    3) Pass an Image to the report
    I would create each advertisement as an image and then would somehow add the image to the report. How would I load the image and control the placement? Could I somehow define a placeholder for the image in the main report-maybe a dummy image to be replaced?
    Thank you.

    Hello Pavel,
    I would got the third way.
    You can use dynamic images in your report.
    Just by changing the URL to the image the image can be changed.
    Please see the [Crystal Manual|http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/cr2008/en/xir3_cr_usergde_en.pdf] and search for images.
    or directly here

  • Need help with column formatting (see image)

    I am trying to make a spreadsheet that calculates proportional image sizes of a fixed original size. I have it set up so you enter an original size on the left (see image below) and the spreadsheet calculates the proportional sizes on the right (in the pink column). I would like to know how to get Appleworks to re-list the proportional sizes while omitting the size pairs that = 0. Basically i want to display the proportional sizes in a new column without the zeros. This way the proportional sizes list is much smaller and easier to read.
    Thanks for any help

    g5   Mac OS X (10.4)
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4)
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Part 2
    The method indicated in your original spreadsheet, and after the refinements suggested earlier, is essentially a sieve—calculate all the values, then strain out the chaff (ie. the results with non-integer values for one or both dimensions).
    A more efficient approach is to calculate and display only the cases where both dimensions are integers.
    Here's one way. You may want to move some of the calculations and revise the formulas accordingly.
    Data Entry:
    Cells B4 and C4 are used for data entry, as in the original.
    Initial calculation: Find the LCF (largest common factor) Columns J, K, L and cell M1.
    J1: =(B$4/ROW())=INT(B$4/ROW())
    K1: =(C$4/ROW())=INT(C$4/ROW())
    L1: =IF(J1+K1=2,ROW(),"")
    Fill these three columns down to the largest short side dimension you expect to use (ie. if you'll use 39 x 78 inch original images, fill down to row 39).
    What the formulas do:
    J1: The ROW() function returns the number of the row in which the formula is located. B$4/ROW() divides the number in B4 by the number of the row. INT(B$4/ROW()) does the same division, then strips off any fractional part of the result. The second = sign is a comparison operator. The formula compares the results of the parts on each side of the sign and, if they are equal, returns TRUE (or 1), and if they are not equal, returns FALSE (or 0).
    For the example (6), the formula would return TRUE in rows 1, 2, 3 and 6, marking the four factors of 6.
    K1: Does the same, but for the number in C4.
    For the example (8), the formula returns TRUE in rows 1, 2, 4 and 8, marking the four factors of 8.
    L1: This IF() formula checks for common factors. If the cells in both columns (J and K) in a particular row contain TRUE (ie. the number of that row is a factor of both the number in B4 and the number in C4), then the sum of the two cells will be 2 (TRUE=1, FALSE=0, TRUE + TRUE = 2), and the formula will return the result of the ROW() function (ie. the number of the row). For any other result, the formula will return 'empty' (ie. what's between the two double quotes "" ).
    For the example, cells L1 and L2 will contain 1 and 2 respectively; the rest of the cells in column L will be empty.
    M1: =MAX(L1..L39)
    M1: This formula completes the search by picking off and returning the greatest number in column L, or the Largest Common Factor for the two numbers. Adjust the second cell reference in the formula to reflect the largest original image size you'll use.
    Final Calculations
    D4: =B$4/$M$1*(ROW()-3)
    E4: =C$4/$M$1*(ROW()-3)
    D4: The formula divides the number in B4 by the LCF determined above to determine the size increment that will give integer results for both dimensions of the final image(s). It then multiplies that increment by 1 in row 4, by 2 in row 5, by 3 in row 6, and so on, for as many rows as you wish. The -3 in the second part of the formula is an offset to make the value of the multiplier three less than the row in which the formula is located.
    E4: Same formula, but acting on the number in C4.
    The first five results for the example ( 6 and 8) are:
    3 4
    6 8
    9 12
    12 16
    15 20
    and for a 4 x 6 initial image:
    2 3
    4 6
    6 9
    8 12
    10 15

  • Help with export format - can I meet ad requirements?

    Help!
    I need to create a color ad for magazine. Starting with a file in either PDF or EPS. Need to tweek existing file by changing some of the text and adding a logo. Final product is for magazine ad with media requirements:
    Preferred High Resolution PDF
    Embedded fonts - no true type fonts, only Type 1 or open Type fonts
    300 DPI
    supporting images must be CMYK, not RGB
    I also have PS CS3. I have experienced output issues with printers in past, especially using the PDF export format from Pages (problems with fonts and layers).
    From reading other posts my plan was to start in Pages, insert PDF file, overlay text and logo, print to Postscript, then open in PSCS3 where I would "save as PDF." Only concern is uncertain resolution of original PDF which is a small file (about 100k for quarter page color ad).
    Other thought was to start with EPS in PS, save as PDF or TiFF, open in Pages to ad text/logo, then back to PS. Trying to avoid PS for main editing, just more versed in PAGES.
    Will this work?
    Any comments appreciated!!

    Good evening from Normandy
    In response to Barbara's point:
    It is serious. At an early stage in my magazine project I lost a client because the background colour in his ad had changed after CMYK separation, and when I noticed it was too late. The client is with us now and very happy with the quality of his ad.
    Pages colour palette allows adjusting CMYK separation WITHIN Pages (note: it is also available in other Mac applications, even in SimpleText). Click on the rainbow circle in the tool bar to open it. Click on the second icon with colour sliders, in the drop down menu click on CMYK sliders. They show percentage content of the four colours used in professional printing - Cyan(blue), Magenta (purple), Yellow and Black.
    With Pages you work in what-i-see-what-i-get mode (WYSIWYG) which is wonderfully intuitive and the results in print are satisfactory more often than not. As a general rule of thumb, however, I would recommend avoiding sharp, vibrant colours. What looks exciting on screen comes out dull on paper. Mind physiology here: screen colours are generated to go staight into your eyes, but the colours on paper are a reflected and refracted sun- or electric light.
    It also makes sense to avoid colours that are too feeble. I used light blue colour wash for background with Cyan reading of 8 percent and it completely disappeared in print. After consulting with my printers I had to change the reading to 15 percent.
    Another printers tool is colour-code or colour-guide tablets. They are like a stack of cards with changing colour sequences with exact CMYK percentage reading for each shade of colour. They can be purchased at specialised shops and web-sites, but are costly. Weigh your needs against costs. In my work I have to pay more attention to general lay-out rather than to colours, so I decided against investing in colour tablets.
    Another work-around here is to use colour combinations from Apple's own templates that come with iWork suite. Copy colours that work nicely together from templates to your colour palette (I wish there was a feature allowing to give custom names to composite colours) and they will be available for use in your projects.
    Re ColourSync utility mentioned here by Dragon. I agree, it is a powerful tool, but Barbara's point is especially relevant here: you have to know what you are doing. I invested some time in creating new workflows with ColourSync. The improvement in quality was dramatic, but while some problems were solved, others appeared. A short article I wrote re using Colour Sync is here:
    i-work-in-pages.blogspot.com/2006/10/preparing-colour-separated-pdfs-using.html
    So after a while I dropped ColourSync method and started using Enfocus PitStop which allows adjusting PDFs right at the CMYK conversion stage.
    Another work-around which makes life even easier is to ask your computer service people to prepare Distiller settings exactly to your requirements as a separate folder which you can install as default in your Distiller settings. That way you just drag-n-drop your files onto the Distiller icon in the Dock and get perfect press quality PDFs in no time.
    It is worth remembering that we are mostly end-users, not developers or technicians. Remembering this saves a lot of heart-ache. I call it the Renaissance Man dilemma - if you spend to much time chasing too many things your main goal is not achieved. Leonardo da Vinci was famous for not finishing his projects, because he always got distracted by exciting technical solutions that he stumbled upon while working...
    This is more in response to Angiomans thread than to Barbara's comment now, but I assume he followed Dragon's invitation to this thread.
    Cheers everybody - it is really exciting to share things with people who have similar experiences.
    Alex,

  • Help with text formatting in Stickies

    I just discovered the Stickies app and it's almost perfect for helping me keep track of my tasks and to-dos. However, I'm slightly obsessive on minor details so I have a few questions:
    Is it possible to center the text without having to paste from another source? I've set the style the way I want it in Word and then paste it into a new note where it looks perfect. Large bold centered text. I go to Note > Use as Default but the text alignment isn't saved. I saved the style as a favorite but have to drill down the styles dialogs just to center text. I'll be creating an deleting a lot of these during the day and it's actually easier for me to read these when the text is centered.
    Same as 1 but for line-spacing. When I try to set the default with 1.5x line spacing new notes are created in 12pt Time New Roman
    Is there a way to set it so that Command+Shift+Y always does a Paste and Match Style? My current workaround is to select all and then paste style to set them as the default font.
    Thanks!

    I had the same problem with CP7 and just upgraded to CP8.01. This version seemed to format my long answers almost perfectly when I imported the first two question pools - then it reverted back to the same old CP7 behavior. This makes me think that there must be a way to do this.
    Update: Here's the workaround that I've used to get these "long questions" and "long answers" to fit into the multiple question Master Slide. I copied then duplicated the "MCQ, T/F, FIB, Sequence" Master Question slide. On the new one, I expanded the Question area box, both horizontally and vertically so it will accommodate even very lengthy questions.
    I then did the same for the answers area - I have to adjust both so they didn't overlap - and I reduced the size of my "Review Area" since I won't be needing it in my exam format. After saving my project, I then imported a new question pool that was in GIFT format. Of course all of them are imported using the original "MCQ, T/F, FIB, Sequence" Master Question slide format. But now I can view my "Question Pool"  (Windows > Question Pool), then select all of them (Control, A) then in the "Properties" tab you should have a pull down that allows you to select the new question master slide you just created. Select it and all of your imported slides now should display properly.
    Note that this seems to work only when your answers can fit on two lines - not three lines or more. But if you've stretched wide the answer area box in you master slide this will work for most long answers.

  • Help with text format

    I am attempting to emulate an example in shown in:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/Books/gui/swing2/swing2_chap11.pdf
    With the following code
    fieldFormat = new NameFormat();
    JFormattedTextField rField = new JFormattedTextField(fieldFormat);
    rField.setColumns(15);
    rField.setValue(initialValue);
    class NameFormat extends Format {
         public StringBuffer format(Object obj, StringBuffer toAppendTo, FieldPosition fieldPosition) {
              fieldPosition.setBeginIndex(toAppendTo.length());
              String str = obj.toString();
              char prevCh = ' ';
              for (int k=0; k<str.length(); k++) {
                   char nextCh = str.charAt(k);
                   if (Character.isLetter(nextCh) && prevCh == ' ')
                        nextCh = Character.toTitleCase(nextCh);
                   toApendTo.append(nextCh);
                   prevCh = nextCh;
              fieldPosition.setEndIndex(toAppendTo.length());
              return toAppendTo;
    }I get the following error:
    FormattedField.NameFormat should be declared abstract; it does not define parseObject(java.lang.String,java.text.ParsePosition) in java.text.Format
    Therefore I determined there must be methods missing. Upon looking I find the following two other methods defines for Format .
    formatToCharacterIterator(Object obj) {}
    parseObject(String source, ParsePosition pos) {}
    The problem is I am unable to determine what the methods should do or look like if added to NameFormat.
    Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
