Help with importing audio...

Hi, i've been doing some foley work and using Garage Band to capture my sounds. I'm recording in and exporting in 24 bit and saving as uncompressed to maintain highest clarirty. Now I need to import it into final cut. The files are already saved from Garage Band as AIFF files. But I've been told i need to adjust the bit rate to match my sequence in FCE.
Does changing the bit rate effect quality? and why does it need to be adjusted?
Can someone please tell me how to convert the bit rate? I'm surprised you can't simply do all this via exporting from Garage Band to save another step of converting.
Thanks

I've been told i need to adjust the bit rate to match my sequence in FCE.
Whomever told you that probably meant SAMPLING RATE and/or BIT DEPTH. The sampling rate should be 48khz and the bit depth should be 16 to work best in FCE or FCP as Michel has indicated.

    Hi,
I need help with optical audio on my X-Fi Elite Pro, and Logitech Z-5500 speakers. I have everything connected, and sound comes out, but NO 5. Surround. This is pissing me off beyond belief. I have it all connected, and set to 5. Surround, and on my Logitech's I have it set to opical in, and have tried ALL effects, stereo, strereo 2x,[Dolby Sign] PL II Movie, [Dolby Sign] PL II Music. I have tried the sound card set for an external decoder, and the sound cards' decoder, and tried both with all optical settings on the sound card. It doesn't give me surround with optical... And I would REALLY appreciate help.
My drivers are up to date.
    Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!

Except if you send DD/DTS multichannel sound to your receiver, you'll not have surround sound with digital connection. did you read the stikies?

  • Can you please help with importing CDs and audio books?

I tried to search for this topic, but had no luck.
Have been happy with IPOD until today. On trying to import a new audio book to iTunes and then updating IPOD to install on it, I can see the title in both the iTunes Library and menu of IPOD. However, instead of seeing a normal 57:32 (or similar stop time), I am seeing 789:57:13.152. When I try to play it through iTunes or IPOD, it skips it as if it wasn't there and plays something else. I checked out importing a music CD, and find the same problem.
Appreciate any advice you can give.

let's first see if you can get the CDs to import normally if you switch off "error correction" in the iTunes Advanced-Importing preferences subtab.
but if no joy there, try checking through the other suggestions from the following document:

  • Having some trouble with importing audio and editing it in iMovie (iLife '11)

Hey guys. Hopefully some of you will be willing to help me with my problem.
Basically I have a video that I've imported into iMovie just fine, and I have a separate audio file that I want to lay over the video. I've figured out how to do this (throw the audio clip into iTunes, then import audio from the iTunes library browser within iMovie). My problem is that I want to have the audio clip I've imported from iTunes come in at a certain point on my video clip, and I want to completely mute the video's sound so that I can ONLY hear the audio clip I've imported from iTunes when that starts playing.
If anyone can help me on how to do this, or if I was confusing and anyone needs clarification please let me know and I'll do my best to replay as quickly as possible.
Thank you very much for any and all input!

Drag your audio track from the Music Browser directly onto the point on your video clip where you wish the audio to start. Don't drag it into the background, but onto the clip thumbnail in your Project. I'm assuming that you have already created a Project and dragged clips from the imported Event. All the editing has to be done in the Project - not the Event.
You will now see a green bar (ribbon) beneath the clip thumbnails, representing the inserted audio. If you click on the small waveform icon at the lower right below the Project thumbnails panel, the audio waveforms will appear (coloured light and medium blue).
You can slide the audio back and forth. You can trim the ends by hovering the playhead (red vertical line) over either end of the green bar until you see a cross-hair icon - click and drag inwards or outwards (subject to audio being available at either end). You can also click on the small gear icon at the start of the audio track and select Clip Trimmer - here you can trim the ends by dragging the yellow handles whilst viewing the corresponding video.
You can split the audio - place the playhead at the proposed split point on the highlighted audio track, right-click (or Control-click) and select Split Clip from the pop-up menu.
If you click on the small gear icon at the start of the track, you can select the Clip Inspector. Click on Audio Adjustments. Otherwise just double-click the green bar and select Audio from the Inspector. In the Inspector you have many choices for editing audio, such as, volume levels, ducking, fading, enhancement, equalizer settings and so on.
You can mute the original audio by double-clicking the video track (or using the gear icon), then reducing the volume in the Inspector's Audio tab. Another way is to use the Ducking feature. Open the Inspector for your added audio track and move the Ducking slider to the zero position - this will mute all other tracks running in parallel with the track you've inserted.
You can easily fade audio tracks in and out without using the Inspector. Open the waveforms by clicking on the waveform icon (as described earlier). At each end of an audio track you will see a small greyish coloured box as you hover over that area. Click and drag as far as you want to create an audio fade. As you do this you will see the waveforms drop in volume.
You can also select sections of audio in the audio track. In the bottom half of the audio track (with waveforms selected) click and drag to surround the selection with a yellow border. Now you can click on the volume line to adjust the volume up or down for that section. Drag the yellow dots to extend or reduce the fade on either side of the selection.
Hope this helps! I think I've covered the essentials.

  • Help with importing PC photo files and then organizing it all in iPhoto

    Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to mac but I am just loving my purchase! I need some serious help with getting all of my photos organized though so I can easily find it for editing in iMovie.
I've accumulated over 10,000 photos stored on my PC which I've since transferred over to my LaCie external drive for my MacBook Pro via a wireless network connecting my PC & Mac. Some of these I've put onto my laptop internal hard drive and those I've imported into the iPhoto library. However, do I need to move the rest of the photos from my LaCie drive into my internal hard drive to import the photos into iPhoto, or can I tell iPhoto to look for the files in the external drive. If so, how do I do that? I know I'll then have to create albums in order to sort them, which I know how to do. Is there any fast way to do it by date? I had it sorted into different file folders by month & year so I could easily find them on my PC and would like to do the same using albums.
I am quickly running out of hard drive space on my laptop which is why I've put most of my photos on the external drive. Once I organize my existing collection, I would like to be able to import new pictures and have it stored on my external drive, not my internal drive. How do I do that?
Any other tips on organizing a massive photo library would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Karen,
Is there any fast way to do it by date? I had it sorted into different file folders by month & year so I could easily find them on my PC and would like to do the same using albums.
This is where you get to enjoy the power of iPhoto's database. You can change the Sort in the View menu. Check out View > Sort Photos > by Date.
Or, click the little calendar icon near the lower left corner of the iPhoto window. This allows you to filter the library by year, month, week, or date. You can Command-click to add another date to your filter. You can Option-click to choose a recurring date: you get that month or date for all years in your library. [Want to see your kid's birthday for every year? Just Option-Click that date. Cool.]
The keywords filter is similar. There is a preference setting where you choose to filter based on ALL keywords chosen (where by choosing more keywords you narrow your field) or ANY keyword (where the more keywords you choose, the larger your field will be). Click on a keyword to filter your library by all photos containing that keyword. Use Command-click to add more keywords to the filter. A difference is that Option-click will eliminate photos with that keyword from your filter. [You can find all pictures of your kids with your dog but NOT at Halloween.]
You can create Smart Albums to combine the use of dates, keywords, ratings, titles, comments and more. The more information you enter into the database, the more powerful the tools become.
When your task of importing is complete and you are ready to play with iPhoto's features it may help to look at the iPhoto multimedia tutorial. Better organized than trying to read through the Help files, it can help you get acquainted with many of iPhoto's features.
    Have fun.

  • Help with importing files

    Hello everyone,
    FYI
[I'm running RoboHelp 5.0.2 - Flash Help. We have purchased
the Bronze help package and the support doesn't know why we are
having problems. We are using Visual Source Safe on a Windows
    server]
I work for a small company that is planning to "roll-out" our
new roboHelp site within a few days. We are having trouble with
importing our .doc, pdf, and xls files. Here's what happens:
I have a topic and I go to create a text.
I highlight the text I want linked
    go to "Insert hyperlink"
    choose "Link to file"
    Browse to my file.
When I click on Okay it ask if I want it brought inot my
    project. I click yes.
I then notice that RoboHelp puts it in the baggage files (
well most of the time it does)
    I save, check everything in.
When I go to v iew it in Primary layout it saids "file not
    found"
Help I'm going crazy. My boss thinks I don't know what I'm
    doing. :(
    Thanks,
    mj

    Hi MJ,
Not sure exactly what the issue is with your help project,
but I have links to pdf and doc files in my project and they work.
When I click View Primary Layout, it brings up the output files
that are generated to a different location than where the working
files are. Is that how your project is set up? Because when I open
a file via a link within the output, it calls the file from the
same directory where the output files live (not from a baggage
file). Is this what you are doing as well? This process has been
    working for me.

  • Need HELP with importing high definition tape

I am using Imovie 6HD - and trying to import a high definition tape from a CanonHV20. After importing the first tape I had a screen saying LETTERBOXING which went on for ever. I noticed it made black border tp/botom on the frames. I don't want that. What should I do - I have more tapes to import.
What settings do I need? As mentioned I used High Definition Tapes so I would like to have a high definition movie/dvd. Also after burning the dvd I suppose I can play that on any tv?? Please help with detail explanation!!
    Thanks.

    wrong setting on Import/New Project:
    • select in New Project dialog 'HDV 1080i' or 'HDV720p' (=depends on your settings on your camcorder...)
    ... I would like to have a high definition .../dvd. ..
no such thing.. DVDs are allways 'Standard'-only.
    • drag iM project file into iDVD = automatic conversion from HD>>SD ..

  • Help with importing DVD for edit

Hey guys, i need to re-edit a film that i made using final cut pro but i deleted the rough file with all the footage and things in it and exported the final product to a dvd. i know how to import the Video_Ts and audio_ts files back on to my computer and copy the dvd but i dont know how to make that information available to put back in to fc so that i can take out some scenes that im not too happy with so i can send it to colleges. If anyone know how to do this i would be most appreciative. thanks

One clumsy but effective way to do this is:
put the dvd disk into your stand alone player.
hook the video and audio outs from the player to the a/v ins to your camcorder.
set your camcorder to do Analog/DV conversion.
connect your camcorder to your computer through firewire
in fcp set your capture to NON-CONTROLABLE device with a capture limit of the length of the DVD.
Start capturing in FCP and hit play on the DVD player.
Hit stop when you have your material.
For what it's worth - throw the camera that records mpeg2 (aka DVDs) into the nearest large body of water (lake, ocean, whatever) and get something useful. This will be a continual pain.

  • Help with importing .mov file from iphoto

I have a casio exilim ex-z1080 digital camera. I have imported the jpg and mov files into iphoto, but can't seem to get it to import into imovie. i read a similar post to mine but could not understand. can anyone help in lay person's terms?
how do i get imovie to recognize the file?

What do you think is the best program to do this? is it QuickTime?
You can use MPEG Streamclip (free), GarageBand (part of iLife), or QT Pro ($30). Each will allow you to convert to any of the iMovie '08 compatible compression formats. (Just avoid Apple Animation and Apple Video which import and edit but do not export properly.) For simplicity, I would normally use use MPEG and convert to DV. This work flow produces a file that can be handled by almost any video editor and, since the format is very standardized, leaves few settings for the use to enter. All you really ned do is select the "Export to DV" File menu option, select any of the compression pop-ups (default DV25 is okay), enter your standard (NTSC or PAL), and set your aspect ratio (either 4:3 or 16:9). It is also a good habit to resample the audio to 48 Khz for consistency. Other that that, you can generally ignore the other settings. (You can also make adjustments to volume, brightness, contrast, and saturation as part of the conversion, but this isn't necessary if you are going to edit in iMovie '08 anyway.) The nice thing about this application is that it sets the anamorphic flag as part of your conversion which iMovie '08 uses in conjunction with the project properties to properly preview (or pad for preview when aspect of project does not match aspect of source file) and to set proper export dimensions (padded or otherwise) for the project aspect ratio output.

  • Help with importing videos

Hey all, just got a brand new iPod 30 GB video.
first off, I made sure it was updated with my Vista system, so there wouldn't be any problems. Works perfect, but when I imported a .mpg-4 video, it wouldn't immediately import. no biggie, right? I just used that "right click- convert to iPod" selection. then, I placed the small 5 minute music video into my iPod.
Here's where my issues start. Why is it incredibly laggy? you can hear the audio perfectly, but the video just doesn't seem to catch up. Any tips???

It may need to be converted using a 3rd party converter.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • Help with editing audio files (please)

    hi there,
firstly sorry for posting in this section but i had no idea where else to do it.
i recently went to an acoustic gig and recorded some songs from it using a sony ericsson phone. i have blue-toothed the files to my mac. there are a few songs on each recording are two things i would like to do with these files.
    1. i would like to split the files so they are separate for each song.
    2. i would like to try remove as much background noise as possible i.e. crowd making noise, or at least focus it on the actual music being played.
i have download audacity but have no idea. i am looking for a possibly free way to do this and simple too. i am not going to go hardcore with the editing, just want to do it quick and easy.
any help much appreciated, thanks, ravi.

You need to import your song to iTunes first.
Than open Garage Band and click on bottom Right button (View/ Hide media browser).
Click on Audio>iTunes>Music, and choose the song you want to edit. Then Just drag to your board and this will open new track, you will see line running vertically on your screen, this is showing you at what measure your song will start, just move to the beginning of a track (if you drop it too soon, just "pick" it up again and move it). This is very useful when you are trying to merge several track (e.g. for your iMovie, as you have only two tracks on it).
Than Split and delete portion you don't want any more.
To Slit a track, adjust your measure where you want to split it and go to Edit>Spit.
    Hope this helps.

  • Please, help with Live Audio/Video example from jmf solutions

    Hello,
Im desperate looking for a solution for a particular problem.
Im trying to feed JMF with an AudioInputStream generated via Java Sound, so that I can send it via RTP. The problem is that I dont know how to properly create a DataSource from an InputStream. I know the example Live Audio/Video Data from the jmf solutions focuses on something similar.
The problem is that I dont know exactly how it works, os, the question is, how can I modify that example in order to use it and try to create a proper DataSource from the AudioInputStream, and then try to send it via RTP?
I think that I manage to create a DataSource and pass it to the class AVTransmit2 from the jmf examples, and from that DataSource create a processor, which creates successfully, and then find a corresponding format and try to send it, but when i try to send it or play it I get garbage sound, so Im not really sure whether I create the DataSource correctly or not, as Ive made some changes on the Live Audio/Video Data from the jmf solutions to construct a livestream from the audioinputstream. Actually, I dont understand where in the code does it construct the DataSource from the livestream, from an inputStream, because theres not constructor like this DataSource(InputStream) neither nothing similar.
Please help me as Im getting very stuck with this, I would really appreciate your help,
    thanks for your time, bye.

  • Help with mediaelement audio player, iPad resizing, and lytebox.

I'm a noob but trying to build my own site in iWeb and using Coda to edit code.
I am a music producer and my website has a page on it that showcases some audio.
I have 3 issues that after about 30 hours of research and fiddling...I can't for the life of me figure out.
I am a music producer and my website has a page on it that showcases some audio.
    1. Lytebox - I am using a lytebox to open a page I designed (HTML page in iWeb) that has 2 links on it so the viewer can choose where they want to go. When said lytebox opens and one clicks one of the two links, the linked page will open within the lytebox. I dont want this. I want the lytebox to close and the linked page to navigate normally in a regular web page.
After much research I have found a code that lytebox posted to be able to do such a thing. They posted this code:
              <a href="javascript:void(0)"
onclick="parent.$lb.end()">End Lytebox from my page inside Lytebox</a>
I have pasted that code everywhere I can think of and it doesn't work. I'm not even sure where to post it (on the first page where the lytebox links from? on      the page that opens in lytebox? on the page lytebox is linking to?)
Here is the page i'm referring to: http://dallaskruse.com/dallaskruse.com/dallaskruse.html
The lytebox link is in the Gramophone at the bottom left of the page.
    2. MediaElement Audio Player - I am trying to build a page where I can showcase about 15-20 audio clips (about 20-30) seconds each.  It is very important to me to be able to hear/view this page correctly on multiple browsers along with tablets and mobile phones. Someone recommended medialement.js.
After HOURS of trying to figure this out, I finaly found a way to add multiple players but not have them load the audio so as to not slow down the web page...and it just was simply not loading on an iPad.
    Here's my issue:
I couldn't figure out how to design (in code) how to add text (song name, artist info, etc) that was to my liking in the HTML so I added the <audio> player via <HTML> and just added text around it in iWeb manually. Problem: iPad is somehow resizing the layout and by the time you get to the bottom of the page, the <audio> players have moved and are now covering up the text. Its all a big mess.
Question: can mediaelement.js use a jukebox style playback?
Here's a link to the page in question: http://dallaskruse.com/dallaskruse.com/arrangements.html
    3. MediaElement Not Playing Back on iPad - I've ran some tests and when I just have 1 <audio> player on the page, it'll play fine on the iPad. But when there's more than 1 player then none of the <audio> players want to work. I'm not sure what's going on but even after about 20+ hours of sitting at my laptop, I'm thinking of searching around for a jukebox that has HTML5 and Flash fallback that looks NICE and easy to modify for beginners.
If ANYONE has ANY pointers or can help in ANY way ... I'd be forever greatful. Sorry for the long post.

in iWeb, on the page in question, i've only got 2 HTML snippets (windows). One for the "Vocals" and one for the "Orchestrations".
In the HTML snippet, I've coded in 12 players for the "Vocals" snippet and 10 in the other snippet for the "Orchestrations" players.
So, I guess I only have 2 snippets.
    heres the "Vocals" code

  • Need help with this audio!

Hi! I recently took a video which I then put on my computer (Mac OS X) and I just want the audio from it for my iPod (it has some music on it which I can't find in the iTunes store). I've tried extracting the audio from it using iMovie, but it won't import it with sound for that. It won't play the sound with GarageBand either. It won't let me share it with QuickTime either and I'm not allowed to buy QT Pro (I'm still a teenager and my parents say no) So does anybody know how I can get the sound from my video for my iTunes library and iPod? Thank you if you can help!

Well, I have never tried to do this, but I have an idea. Keep in mind I really don't know if it will work, I am just suggesting it.
I am not sure, but I would think that Adobe Premiere would have this functionality. Obviously you aren't going to buy the whole app (few hundred bucks), but they do offer a 30-day trial, which you might be able to take advantage of.
You also might want to Google something like "extract sound from movie OSX" (or something like that).
    I hope this helps!

  • Need help with Conditional Audio

Hello again! So early on into a course, after a couple intro slides, I have a sorting slide to direct users to other parts of a course (self-led learning in a way). However, I have an audio narration that plays on entry to that slide (not slide audio, it plays via advanced actions). I'm trying to figure out a way so that once they have viewed that slide once and heard that audio the first time, any time they get sent back to this sorting slide, they don't hear the audio again. How might this be done?
What I have already tried: I've tried two things, first I set up a variable called Sort_Audio. On exit of the slide previous, Sort_Audio would be assigned a value of 10. On entry to the sorting slide, an advanced action would check if Sort_Audio is equal to 10. If it is, it plays audio (and clears another variable that is unrelated, I just needed to do both things, so I combined them). I have On Exit from the sorting slide an advanced action that resets Sort_Audio to 0 so that when a user gets sent back to that sorting slide, it would theoretically not star the audio. Problem with this in the first place is for some reason it won't even play the audio the first time.
The other thing I tried was quite similar, but instead of assigning values to slides I tried cpInfoLastSlideViewed and equalled it to the name of the previous slide, as well as doing the same thing for cpInfoPreviousSlide. Neither seemed to work.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

The problem is resolved. Using TTS, the audio went onto the slide. I had not removed it from the slide audio so that the Advanced Action could work. Lieve, I got it to work by being extra careful to get each step correct and complete and assuring that the slide didn't have audio attached to it. Rod, I could not get the test project to work with audio attached to a smart shape. I believe it is because I am not controlling visibility of the smart shape--a logic test for another project and another day.
Here is what I finally got to work:
I created a project to get the procedure working before I put it into the big project. Here is a description of the test project.
Slide one has a smart shape (not used as a button) and a button which goes to the next slide. There is slide audio that plays when the slide is viewed.
Slide two has a smart shape that is used as a button to go back to slide one.
First Test with simple Advanced Action (no increment of variable):
    Variable used is called "v_visit"
Conditional advanced action is called "checker"
If v_visit is equal to 0
Then Play Audio "text to audio X" (created with TTS. I also tested it with recorded voice in a second test, "RecordingX.wav")Assign v_visit with 1
    Else Continue
Slide one, on enter, execute Advanced Action "checker"
                        on exit, No Action
Second Test with different Advanced Action (variable increments):
    Variable called "v_counter"
    Advanced Action (conditional) called "menuAudioChecker"
    First condition ("setCounter")
If 1 is equal to 1
    Then Expression v_counter = v_counter + 1
    (Else not used)
    Second condition ("checkCounter")
If v_counter is equal to 1
Then Play Audio "Text to AudioX" or "RecordingX.wav"
    (Else not used)
Slide one, On Enter Execute Advanced Action "menuAudioChecker"
    On Exit, No Action
On this "Second Test" I added a smart shape to display the contents of v_counter and it counts as expected. As Lieve has indicated in other posts, if one desired a different audio to play based on the value of v_counter this would allow that to happen. In my case in the production project I could play audio associated with section 6 when they return to the menu after completing section 6.
Thank you for patiently working with me to resolve this issue (mostly due to my own oversights).
Most importantly, thank you for the excellent Advanced Action model to use for the project.
    Michael
