Help with importing images in Premiere Pro CS5.5

Hi all... I'm working on a widescreen ntsc project that mixes video footage with power point slides, which have been exported to BMP, JPEG, PNG and TIFF... when I look at the images in an external image viewer, they look great... when I import them and drag them in the timeline in Premiere Pro, they look terrible.  The text looks bad.
Since the dimensions of the power point slides are 960x720, I have used the scaler in Premier, and I've also resized them in an external graphics program to about 720x480, but to no avail.
The vexing thing is, I gave a sample full sized slide and footage to a colleague, and he just dragged the slide into the timeline, resized it to the right size and the text is crystal clear.
Any ideas??
Thanks,
Matt

check your paused and/or playback resolution settings...
I've found TIFF to be the cleanest output from PPT for inclusion in video, and I've also found that the scale to frame size command usually works pretty well within Premiere. However, Photoshop's scaler uses much better algorithms and will give you a much better result. You can do a batch process on all your files and automatically create smaller versions of them if you'd like. Alternatively, you can open PPT and customize the size of your PPT slide, which should scale everything to fit your new size. Then you'll have native 720x480 TIFFs on export from PPT.

  • Importing images into Premiere Pro CS5

Hi all. I have a problem that has just occurred. In an HDV project in CS5 Premirer Pro, I am importing images from a source file into the project window and then onto the timeline. These are separate jpg images, each one with a different filename albeit the first three letters of the filename are the same. When the images are imported, although the filenames are as they appear in the source folder, the actual images are all identical - usually to the first image in the group. It makes no difference whether I import the images separately or as a group - the same problem persists. I have tried clearing the media cache and re-starting the computer. No use. Any ideas?
    Many thanks, Ivan.

Open and resave the images in Photoshop.  This rewrites the header info and usually solves the problem.

  • Maximum File Size of .dv Import File to Premiere Pro CS5?

    Hello Community:
I searched this forum and Google in general, but could not find an absolute limit on the media file size I can import into a Premiere Pro CS5 project.  I'm scheduled to process the ".DV" recording from a conference, which could go on for hours.  I have asked the camera man to break up the recording in one-hour segments, but I'm getting some push-back.
Is there a specific size limitation on importing an NTFS file structure .dv file in Premiere Pro CS5?
    Thanks,
    Rich Locus

Same issue. I previously used  NeoScene to convert .mov files from a Canon 5d mark ii to the easier to edit with Gopro Cineform .avi format in Premiere Pro CC. They used to work fine but now Premiere only recognizes a very small part of the file. The first 18 seconds of an 8 minute file.
I tried importing the file to a new clean scene and the problem remained.
I need to be able to work with this footage. Somehow Premiere is no longer able to properly read clips it used to be able to read.
I would like to hear something from Adobe on this issue.
EDIT: I just updated my GoPro software to 2.0 and the problem was instantly solved. The same might apply to TechSmith.
EDIT 2: Upon rendering the edit I discovered that while the entire length of the clip was represented it in fact stopped playing new frames at the same frame as it had before. So no luck. Updating GoPro Cineform made the length of the file display correctly (7min) but did not actually let me play the file beyond the first 18 seconds - it just showed the same frame.
I deleted all preview files and cleaned Media Cache files (under media/preferences) - this didn't help.
Finally I made the file offline, closed Premiere, changed the file name and re-opened Premiere. Then I right clicked over the file in the Project window and chose replace file to re-connect. The file finally came in correctly. I've now rendered it and it runs through the entire 7 min.

  • How can I create a stop animation video with single images in Premiere Pro?

Let me start off by saying I am 100% new to pretty much all Adobe software as of about 3 weeks ago. I have been doing a lot of googling these past few weeks. With that said, I will do my best to explain my question.
I am making a stop motion animated video.  I am not using several photos to create the look, but rather single photoshopped images that I have deleted the backgrounds out of. Basically the video is single charms "crawling" or flying in individually from off screen into a circle, there is a story explaining what each charm means. I started in After Effects, but had issues with audio... am I right in my understanding that you cannot preview the audio unless you use the preview feature? So my solution was playing a guessing game, rendering/exporting, importing it to Premiere Pro, taking notes and then heading back to After Effects to try to re-do the timing. Obviously this was not working too well.
Then after doing more googling and clicking around I figured out you could layer images in Premier Pro and make them move just as you would in After Effects, which is great! There are two things hanging me up...
    1. I used the wiggle effect in After Effects. For the life of me I cannot find or figure out an effect or preset similar to this in Premiere Pro. Is there such a thing? Or do I have to create rotation keyframes? (I think I'm using keyframes correctly).
    2. Making the images stop-motiony and not smooth.
My question is... any suggestions on how to re-create the wiggle effect easily in Premiere Pro? Or is there away to create the effect in After Effects and then import the image into Premiere Pro and still be able to change the position and timing?
Please help! My deadline is tomorrow by the end of the work day!
Please forgive me if these are silly questions... go easy on me, I'm soo new! Thanks in advance!

Thanks so much for the reply!
I read that... but it doesn't preview the whole thing? It only previews a few seconds and then loops. I tried to figure out how to change the preview settings, but I can't seem to get it to work.

  • Batch import MXF on Premiere Pro Cs5 (Panasonic P2) ?

    HI,
Does anyone know of a way to import more than one mxf file at a time without having import the content folder as separate files? To be clear. I know several ways of import mxf files into premiere. The first is to simply click File>Import and browse for the file. Another way is via the media browser and yet another is to right click on the project panel and selecting import. They all share the same problem. You can only import one file at a time because you need to select the mxf file within the video subfolder. Premiere then composites the audio and the video together. If you instead select the 00#### folders you can select more than one but you get whole bunch of separate audio and video files for each clip. (You do also get a composite file but the extra files are a nightmare when it comes to organizing).  This is what the file looks like when you browse for it using the Flie>Import or the right click>import methods:
The Media browser option is slightly diferent in the once you browse into the 00#### folder you see the composite file instead of the contents folder. But still you can't select more than one file at a time unless you only browse into the 00#####'s parent folder Then you can select all the 00#### folders but you get the same jumbled mess of files you get by trying this the other way. You can just drag them to the project panel or right click>Import to import the files. This is what it looks like:
The problem is this is what the file looks like when you import the folder:
The only necessary file in that whole folder is the last one. So does anyone know a way to import more than one mxf file at a time that only produces one file per clip in premiere pro CS5?

Ah, yes... you're sort of in a tough spot. The Dual Adapter has been the source of much consternation since the advent of P2. Addonics makes an adapter that works decently on PCs, but is also a no-go on Macs.
You have a couple of options, as I see it:
Keep on keepin' on... not fast or friendly, but if it works for you, so be it
Partition your Mac Book's hard drive so that you can install 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard). That way, you could boot into 10.5 in order to use the Dual Adapter to offload cards, and then boot back to 10.6 for editing.
If you are a Mac-only-kind-of-guy, pick up an old PowerBook that actually has a CardBus/PCMCIA slot--it'll work just fine for offloading.
If you are willing to dabble in PC land, do a little research on small, inexpensive Windows laptops that either have a CardBus slot, or have an ExpressCard slot and will work with the Addonics adapter (the Dual won't work on Windows Vista/7, and probably won't since it's been discontinued).
Pick up the Panasonic AJ-PCD2 single-slot USB reader. It's the long overdue appliance the P2 shooting world has been clamoring for.
They're all viable, and arranged roughly in the order from cheapest to "less cheap." Other than #1, I'd say just about any of them are decent solutions. Personally, I suggest the PC laptop route--even if you single-purpose it for offloading P2 cards, it will prove to be the most flexible and robust solution.
As for the logging, maybe we don't need more thrid party software. Maybe
the answer lays in cross compatibility with the current software.
Premiere=FCP=Vegas=Avid. Seems like less steps to me having the metadata
    embed on the clip.
That would be the ideal, but unfortunately, the NLEs are incapable of editing the file metadata for any MXF clip. Rather, they can edit the clip metadata for a particular imported clip, but then that stays with the project itself, and doesn't travel with the files if they go elsewhere. So at this time, logging outside of an NLE is really the only means of associating usable, transferable metadata with a particular shot.

  • Problem with screen size in Premiere Pro CS5?

I'm making a movie in Premiere Pro CS5 and I've ran into a problem with the screen size. The source screen shows my footage in widescreen (16:9) but my project screen is playing the widescreen footage in standard size (4:3) so it is cutting off some of the footage from the screen. I would like to make my entire project standard size so how do I do that? (Most of the chopped off footage was adjusted in After Effects so does that have anything to do with it?)
Thanks for any help you can give!

The properties of the footage are:
    872 x 486
    00;00;25;00, 29.97 fps
    48000 Hz - 32-bit Float - Stereo
The properties of the sequence are:
    Editing Mode: DV NTSC
    Timebase: 29.97 frames/second
    Video:
    Frame Size: 720 horizontal 480 vertical 4:3
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC (0.9091)
    Fields: Lower Field First
    Display Format: 30fps Drop-frame Timecode
    Audio:
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
    Display Format: Audio Samples
    Video Previews:
    Preview File Format: NTSC DV
    Codec: DV NTSC
    Width: 720
    Height: 480
I'm also quite a beginner at Premiere Pro and basically all the Adobe programs, so are there any good websites (preferably free) that give good help and information for beginners like me?
    Thanks!

  • Problems with time lapse in Premiere Pro cs5.5

About a month ago I tried to make a time lapse with my Canon 7D.
I imported the pictures to Lightroom and exported them as JPG. Than in Premiere Pro I clicked on import, selected the first image and checked the "numbered stills" box. It all worked as it should.
Yesterday I tried to do this again. The only different thing is the cameras but I don't think that's the problem (it's the 5D mk2).
When I import the photos as numbered stills in premiere pro it and drop it in the sequence all seems ok. When I move the slider in the sequence forward and backward it also seemed ok at first but now it shows no pictures but only a black screen with some noise (like tv noise). If I export it there is no movie, just black screen with noise.
Where seems to be the problem?
When I drop it into the sequence I can also change the scale of the image to fit the screen and that all seems ok... :/
I can even play a preview inside the premiere pro and it's almost ok (it's not a smooth playback, but it plays as it should...tough it drops some frames).

    Welcome to the forum.
When Still Images show as black, the first things that I investigate is the pixel x pixel dimensions of the images. With many Stills, even if they are within the allowed pixel x pixel range, one's computer's resources can be used up, and an alternate workflow might be useful - Scale the Images to match the Frame Size of the Sequence, prior to Import, in a program, like Photoshop. This ARTICLE might be helpful.
The second thought is that the video driver is no longer performing properly, and needs to be updated. What is make/model of your graphics card, and what is the current number/date of your installed video driver?
    Good luck,

  • I need help with audio in my Premiere Pro edit

I recently recorded a gameplay with a song track in it. In the beginning of my video, i did a voiceover explaining what the video was going to be about. When im talking, i want to lower the song, then raise the volume when im done talking. How can i do this? If i need to be more specific let me know. Thanks!

OK, assuming that the gameplay audio with the song is on audio track one and the voiceover is on audio track two.
All you have to do is to keyframe track one to lower the volume while you are talking and raise it bak to normal when you finish speaking. It is pretty simple.

  • Importing still images to Premiere Pro CS5

I have some still digital images in my computer which I want to use for a project for class.
The problem I find is that when I import the images they are too big and only a portion of shows.
Apparently the size of the image has to be 720 wide x 480 tall.
How do I resize it to that scale?
    Please help.

Correction: I redid the whole thing as I was using the wrong image.  But anyhow, this is the scenario.
My project requires images close to 720 wide x 480 tall.   My image is 3264 x 2448
When I resized I couldn't use 720 width as the "constrain proportions" makes the height 540.
The latter being greater than the 480... so I have selected (with the right image now) 640 width and it automatically inserts a height of 480.
This is better than the previous dimensions with the wrong image so I guess I might be ok.  What do you think?

  • Problems with Premiere Pro CS5

Everyone seems to be getting replies to all questions around here so i hope someone can help me out.
My premiere pro CS5 has decided to act up for the past three weeks: everytime i open an old project, it loads up, opens the project window and timeline, feels like it's all good, but then the spinning wheel appears and all fans go out of control on my macpro, and this process can go on for hours until my only option is to force quit the program, SADLY...
It's almost as if it's trying to conform all items in the project panel, but it mentions "all media loaded", and there are no dinamic link files to find.
There are two projects i'm constantly getting back to: one is a 720P poject which contains two timelines, a 30 min one which only has music now, and a 5min timeline with music, go pro footage and rendered HD animations from AE, all at 720P. Opening this project can take up to 40 min where i'm staring at a spinning wheel and hoping for the fans to not explode, that was not the case three weeks ago; I could close everything, shut down for the night and get back to it the next day.
Second project is a holiday video of Asia which goes for one hour and fifteen min, but it was all shot in 07 with an old Sony DV on standard def of course. Opening this project used to be smooth, even though i often moved things around and had to find them again. But now i want to rework on its sound, noise reduction anf create a nice DVD for my family, but I cannot open the project without having to wait for HOURS, and HOURS and HOURS - the longest being three hours and the spinning wheel was still going and the fans were louder than a lawn mower....
This never used to happen before and it is worrying me as I started editing a short film in 1080P, so far i can open it nicely, but it may turn into a mess like the other two projects.
The two projects used to have dinamic link files as i always had after effects and Encore working along PPRO to avoid rendering. At first, i though ADL was the problem for such a slow bootup, so i got rid of every ADL files and rendered instead, which consequently helped me in the process. BUT NOW, it is impossible to open them without a long and frustrating wait.
If i start a new project, everything is fine and will reopen smoothly - what are your thoughts on the matter guys??? Can a project be too heavy and requires 4 hours to load?...
I have a quad core MaPro with 32gb of RAM, so this should render and locate files lightning FAST....
I already reinstalled the whole suit but the problem still happens, i'm thinking about a complete format and reinstalling eveything from scratch...
thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Try these steps. Something is definately wrong with your loading times.
    1. Delete PrP preferences (Option - Shift when booting up PrP)
    2. Clean Media caches (Preferences Menu/Media)
    3. Delete preview files
You dont mention where and on what system your media files are stored. For best performance a raid array is desirable.
    4. Make new sequence and copy timeline from old to new.Do this if the above stuff doesn't help.
    5. Upgrade to 5.5 where a lot of issues has been resolved.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 takes up to 40 minutes to start up

    Hi everybody,
I am having issues with our copy of Premiere Pro CS5 - as I mentioned above, it can take up to 40 minutes, or longer, for it to create a new or load a previous project. I work at a school and we have a computer lab with 30 iMacs, running OS X 10.6.5, with the Adobe CS5 Master Collection installed on all of them. We also have a Mac server (Mac Mini) that runs Open Directory, which is used for authentication.
The issue only occurs when a networked user logs on - when I log in with a local user account, everything runs fine. I know this has to be some kind of permissions issue, I just do not know exactly what to look for, as I am a bit of a noob when it comes to Adobe, or Apple products, for that matter. I have been looking for a solution for quite a while - I reinstalled Premiere, Googled, and looked on the forums, all with no luck. I found similar posts, but they were not exactly like mine. I would really appreciate any help that I can get on this matter. Thank you.
    Regards,
    Nikita
P.S: the firewall is off on all of the computers.

    >What makes Premiere different
Todd or another employee may be able to give a technical answer
As a user who has been reading in the Premiere forums going back to 2002 and Premiere 6x I will only say that everything I have ever read, in a discussion like this, is that all versions of Premiere are designed to be run by one user on one computer... with local, not network, settings... so the program may be "tuned" to do the best possible job for that one user
This is simply a design decision that has never been changed... the product is simply not designed to do what you want
I am sure there is video editing software written to be multi-user and/or network operated... but I don't have any idea what that might be (if you want Hollywood studio team editing functionality, you'll have to pay Hollywood studio prices)

  • Premiere Pro CS5 confuses images with each other

    Hi Adobe-Community,
I've got a severe problem, that is holding back my whole project at the moment, and I really hope you can help me with this.
Premiere regularly confuses the images I have added to my project with each other. So when I am importing 2 images, let's say CIMG5967.JPG and CIMG5974.JPG, by dragging them into my project, two new elements are created. But when I'm putting these elements into my sequence, both appear as the same image, although they are still properly named after their original file.
Sometimes the very same problem even occurs some days later, so parts of my project, that have already been finished, suddenly appear as if I would have used the same image over and over again.
    I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 - Version 5.0.3
Using the option to clean up the media-cache-db didn't help.

Happened to me once - a corrupt project.
    Unlink all the faulty images.
    Open a new project.
    IMPORT the old project
    Relink the images.
