Help with importing PDF to Indesign CS5 trial version
Hello: I am in a bit of a quandry. I have numerous PDF's that I want to convert to Epub. I called Adobe and asked them what program I would need to do this and they said InDesign CS5 so I downloaded the trial version to check it out. The problem is, that in the trial version there is no "place" command, which is how I would import the PDF. So I am left unable to run a test with this software and don't want to buy a program that I can't confirm. Any ideas or work arounds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The trial version of InDesign certainly does not have any features disabled. You should be able to place pages from a PDF file into an InDesign document.
File=>Place or Ctrl-D should yield a file dialog for you to select a file to place. Of course, you must already have opened an existing file or created a new file.

Help with numbering lists in Indesign CS5.5 for epub file
I am working with a book in Indesign CS5.5 to export it as an epub file. I have been working on formatting the text and I have run into a small problem. Throughout the book there are multiple lists within the texts that need to be numbered. Each list, however, must start over at number 1 and not be continued on from the previous list. The lists are all unrelated and I need them to be completely separate. I used "Type", "Bullets and Numbering", then "Apply Numbering" to begin with. This had each list in the correct order. However, I also created a paragraph style with the correct font, size, indentation, and spacing that must be applied to all the lists before exporting. When I do this, everything keeps its correct formatting except that some of the lists continue their numbering from the previous list. For example, on page 1 I might have a list of four things all formatted correctly and number 1 through 4. On page 3, I have another list, of completely unrelated items. I therefore would like this list to be started over at number 1, but when I apply the paragraph style to it, it starts at 5, picking up where the last list left off. I need to keep these as the assigned paragraph style but it messes up the numbering. If anyone could help me figure out how to keep this from happening I would greatly appreciate it!
If you don't mind cracking open the ePub and editing template.css, then adding rules like:
h2 {
page-break-before: always;
should force each paragraph whose style is mapped to an h2 tag on to a new page. Whether or not it works will depend on how good the ePub reader is at implementing CSS. It seems to work for Digital Editions and also Kindle, if you convert ePub to Kindle format.
This doesn't help at all if you are trying to force sections into separate XHTML files, though. -
Help with importing .pdf's - flattening
Hello folks,
I just upgraded to Win7 and did a complete reinstall.
I have CS2 that is working fine, however, when I place a .pdf, it automatically flattens. Many customers send .pdf's that I place into a template, however, sometimes flattening will cause lost font attributes. Prior to the upgrade to Win7, I could plad a .pdf and it was intact, unless I "wanted" to flatten.
I've tried everything in preferences to no avail. What do I need to do?

Hi All
I'm tryting to install the InDesign CS5 trial, every thing works OK right up untill it starts copying the files, as which point I get lots of errors all seeming to relate to a 64bit OS.
Im running 32bit Vista OS with the latest updates and service pack installed.
Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this issue?

Exporting PDF problem indesign CS5

I'm trying to export a 72 pages document to pdf in indesign CS5 but during the exporting proces the pdf file disappeares. Who knows a solution to this problem. Thanks in advance for helping me.

After that I wanted to export the HR-pdf document so I started the export and after 15 minutes teh file disappeares when it wasn't finished with saving. When i tried to save it as the smallest file size possible there was no problem and the file was exported correctly. So I allready found out that the problem can be found in de export to HD_PDF.

Forms Warning with Interactive PDF from InDesign
Hi all,
I have created an interactive PDF in InDesign CS5 with a series of buttons, and those buttons link to bookmarked pages within the document. These buttons are setup on one of the Masters. It seems that whenever I get more than 10 buttons on the master, I get the following warning when I open the exported PDF in Adobe Reader:
"Please Note: You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer. If you would like a copy for your records, Please fill it in and print it"
I don't have any form fields in the document that I am aware of. Is there any way to locate form fields if they do in fact exist?
Is there a limit of 10 buttons per master perhaps?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why do blacks turn to grey when I create/export a pdf from InDesign CS5?
Unfortunately, things like this are rarely glitchy little programming errors but deep, by-design, problems with using colour management. Usually you are getting exactly what you asked for, just not what you want, and the more colour management options there are, the more likely this is.
There are many possible causes, but one of the easiest to do is and hardest to spot is applying a CMYK profile in InDesign export, and a different one through Photoshop settings. This is actually demanding that colours be converted for the worst! Since your print workflow will be different, a work-around of rich black is likely to make things worse.
So the first thing to check is whether the colours you indended made it to the PDF, indeed. Output Preview is the first tool to use (as well as inspecting plates, you can hover over points to check the colour mix).
Also, go to your PDF export under the "Output" tab which includes colour and PDF/X. Either send a screen shot, or read off all of the the settings there. -
Can't import psd file InDesign CS5 on PC
Hi I'm helping a friend who has InDesign CS5 on a PC. I worked on 60 images on a Mac and saved them as psd files (necessary for transparency, etc.) but when I try to import them into her InDesign file, I get an error message saying something to the effect that the path is missing and therefore the image will not import. I have lot's of experience on the Mac but have never worked in a PC environment before - never had this problem on Mac. Thanks for any help!!
The only possible invalid part of the file name would have to be an underscore, ie. Image_crop.psd
The files were stored on a removable drive - will try importing from the harddrive in a simply named folder. Thanks! -
I have a book I wrote that I am very close to finishing for print. I only need to justify the paragraphs. How do I import the file to InDesign and format the paragraphs? Please help.
Your subject line says "Import pdf to InDesign", but you say this is a book you wrote. You don't create files as PDF, you export existing files to PDF, so the book must have originated in another program. What program is that?

I downloaded the InDesign CS5 trial. It downloaded fien in Mozilla Firefox and when it begins to go through the installation process, it tells me I do not meet the standard requirements. I downloaded InDesign to run the program anyways and upon opening the program, it immediately errors and quits.
I am running Mac OS 10.6.7. I would like to use the trial until CS 5.5 is available for upgrade, but I cannot figure out what I am missing to get the trial to run. Specs for my computer are below:

Trying Download InDesign CC Trial Version with ACC in Windows 7
Trying Download InDesign CC Trial Version with ACC in Windows 7. After a while an error message occured: Download seemd to be dammaged, try it later again.
Meanwhile i tried it several times in the last 7 days, I also reinstalled the ACC, I deleted the omp.db, deactivated F-Secure, Firewall.... with no result. There is no InDesign log.gz in C.\Programm(x64)\common files\adobe\installers.
I use Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC as Abo, both programms work well, the last automatic update was on 29. december 2013.
Has anyone an idea, how do download the InDesign CC Trial Version manually?

PDF of InDesign CS5.5 has text drift in a table
In InDesign CS5.5 I have a large table (36 rows, 17 columns). The content is prices, right-aligned, two decimal places.
When I export as a PDF, the numbers slowly shift, moving top to bottom, either to the left or right (this happens on many (but not all) different pages), for 20-25 rows, at which point the positioning is corrected. Total deviation from row 1 until the correction varies, from 0.0067 inches to 0.0109 inches.
This happens only when exporting a PDF from InDesign (CS5.5). If I print from the .indd the problem is not there. If I print a .ps and use Distiller, the resulting PDF is fine.
All cells have the same settings as far as padding, tabs, type size.
I'll post this in the InDesign forums as well.Steve, I don't seem to be able to move this back -- missing some privileges I think. This was a cross-post -- already in the ID forum -- and he was hoping maybe someone in Acrobat had more ideas. Can you move it back again?

You mean an image such as a scanned document?
If that is the case, the file doesn't contain any text for Reader Out Loud to read. In order to fix that, you would need an application such as Adobe Acrobat that does Optical Character Recognition to convert the images to actual text.
You can also try to export the file as a Word document or something else using ExportPDF which I believe offers OCR and is cheaper than Acrobat. -

Generally this should work, but of course there may be occasional compatibility issues across the different programs and their different versions.
