Help with Imports

Ok my problem is hard to explain but I'll do my best.
My iTunes is brand new. Yesterday I downloaded and installed it. As soon as I opened the program it started moving my music from Windows Media Player onto iTunes. This was all well and good but then it started to convert the WME (or WMA, whatever they're called. You get it). Not knowing why it said converting I exited the program. I come to find out that the vast majority of my songs on Media Player needed to be converted to make it to iTunes. Now when I open iTunes I only have a small fraction of my total songs. How do I make iTunes finish importing and converting ALL the songs from Media Player (so far I can do one at a time and I have over 1000 songs).
Anyone that can help PLLLLLEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSEEEEEEE do so. I may just love you forever.

Not knowing why it said converting I exited the program.... How do I make iTunes finish importing and converting ALL the songs from Media Player
For one thing, maybe exiting while it was doing exactly what you wanted was not the greatest idea! But, nothing lost. Do the following: Close WMP; it has no role in what you are doing. Make sure you know what folders your WMA files are in. Use the iTunes command File > Add Folder to Library, and point it at your song folders. As iTunes processes each WMA file, it converts it to your preferred import format (see more on this below), adds the converted version to your library, and leaves the WMA files where it was.
Regarding file format, if you plan to be moving around among Apple and non-Apple products, as you have been, you will find that mp3 is much more portable than AAC. So before doing anything else, go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing, make sure you have set to mp3 encoding at your preferred bit rate. (For bit rate, if you don't know what I am talking about, use 192.)
There is one other catch. Music imported with WMP may have been created as protected WMA files, rather than unprotected files. If that is the case with any of your files, iTunes cannot convert them, and other measures must be taken.
Hope this helps.

  • Can you please help with importing CDs and audio books?

I tried to search for this topic, but had no luck.
Have been happy with IPOD until today. On trying to import a new audio book to iTunes and then updating IPOD to install on it, I can see the title in both the iTunes Library and menu of IPOD. However, instead of seeing a normal 57:32 (or similar stop time), I am seeing 789:57:13.152. When I try to play it through iTunes or IPOD, it skips it as if it wasn't there and plays something else. I checked out importing a music CD, and find the same problem.
Appreciate any advice you can give.

let's first see if you can get the CDs to import normally if you switch off "error correction" in the iTunes Advanced-Importing preferences subtab.
but if no joy there, try checking through the other suggestions from the following document:

  • Help with importing PC photo files and then organizing it all in iPhoto

    Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to mac but I am just loving my purchase! I need some serious help with getting all of my photos organized though so I can easily find it for editing in iMovie.
I've accumulated over 10,000 photos stored on my PC which I've since transferred over to my LaCie external drive for my MacBook Pro via a wireless network connecting my PC & Mac. Some of these I've put onto my laptop internal hard drive and those I've imported into the iPhoto library. However, do I need to move the rest of the photos from my LaCie drive into my internal hard drive to import the photos into iPhoto, or can I tell iPhoto to look for the files in the external drive. If so, how do I do that? I know I'll then have to create albums in order to sort them, which I know how to do. Is there any fast way to do it by date? I had it sorted into different file folders by month & year so I could easily find them on my PC and would like to do the same using albums.
I am quickly running out of hard drive space on my laptop which is why I've put most of my photos on the external drive. Once I organize my existing collection, I would like to be able to import new pictures and have it stored on my external drive, not my internal drive. How do I do that?
Any other tips on organizing a massive photo library would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Karen,
Is there any fast way to do it by date? I had it sorted into different file folders by month & year so I could easily find them on my PC and would like to do the same using albums.
This is where you get to enjoy the power of iPhoto's database. You can change the Sort in the View menu. Check out View > Sort Photos > by Date.
Or, click the little calendar icon near the lower left corner of the iPhoto window. This allows you to filter the library by year, month, week, or date. You can Command-click to add another date to your filter. You can Option-click to choose a recurring date: you get that month or date for all years in your library. [Want to see your kid's birthday for every year? Just Option-Click that date. Cool.]
The keywords filter is similar. There is a preference setting where you choose to filter based on ALL keywords chosen (where by choosing more keywords you narrow your field) or ANY keyword (where the more keywords you choose, the larger your field will be). Click on a keyword to filter your library by all photos containing that keyword. Use Command-click to add more keywords to the filter. A difference is that Option-click will eliminate photos with that keyword from your filter. [You can find all pictures of your kids with your dog but NOT at Halloween.]
You can create Smart Albums to combine the use of dates, keywords, ratings, titles, comments and more. The more information you enter into the database, the more powerful the tools become.
When your task of importing is complete and you are ready to play with iPhoto's features it may help to look at the iPhoto multimedia tutorial. Better organized than trying to read through the Help files, it can help you get acquainted with many of iPhoto's features.
    Have fun.

  • Help with importing files

    Hello everyone,
    FYI
[I'm running RoboHelp 5.0.2 - Flash Help. We have purchased
the Bronze help package and the support doesn't know why we are
having problems. We are using Visual Source Safe on a Windows
    server]
I work for a small company that is planning to "roll-out" our
new roboHelp site within a few days. We are having trouble with
importing our .doc, pdf, and xls files. Here's what happens:
I have a topic and I go to create a text.
I highlight the text I want linked
    go to "Insert hyperlink"
    choose "Link to file"
    Browse to my file.
When I click on Okay it ask if I want it brought inot my
    project. I click yes.
I then notice that RoboHelp puts it in the baggage files (
well most of the time it does)
    I save, check everything in.
When I go to v iew it in Primary layout it saids "file not
    found"
Help I'm going crazy. My boss thinks I don't know what I'm
    doing. :(
    Thanks,
    mj

    Hi MJ,
Not sure exactly what the issue is with your help project,
but I have links to pdf and doc files in my project and they work.
When I click View Primary Layout, it brings up the output files
that are generated to a different location than where the working
files are. Is that how your project is set up? Because when I open
a file via a link within the output, it calls the file from the
same directory where the output files live (not from a baggage
file). Is this what you are doing as well? This process has been
    working for me.

  • Need help with importing into iPhoto.

I have a bit of an annoying problem when it comes to importing pictures into iPhoto (5.0.4). When I plug my camera into my computer, iPhoto launches and presents me with the import pictures option. However, it's not much of an option, as I can only choose to import all my pictures on the camera! More often than not, I only want to import some of the pictures, and rename them as well (instead of just "Image_0001.jpg", "Image_0002.jpg", etc.) To do this, I go through some really annoying steps:
1.) Plug in camera and start the Picture import app (not iPhoto).
2.) Choose what pictures I wish to import, and import.
    3.) Start up Automator.
4.) Tell Automator to get the selected pictures of the ones I have imported, rename them (eg. "Iceland 1", "Iceland 2", etc.), import to iPhoto and finally delete the source pictures.
5.) Repeat with the other pictures (eg. "Sweden 1", "Sweden 2", etc.).
    Done!
Now, my question is... is there an easier way? This method I just described is long, annoying and time consuming! So, is there a way to...
1.) Only import some pictures from my camera (not all), from within iPhoto?
2.) Is there any way to change the name of the actual file (not just the title of the picture in iPhoto) from within iPhoto?
3.) Does iPhoto have to copy all my pictures to a specific folder on my hard drive which I can't change?
4.) (Not relating to iPhoto...) Is there any way of changing the names of a number of files from within the Finder to sequential file names (eg. "File 1", "File 2", "File 3", etc.) without the use of Automator?
Thanks for any help. It's very much appreciated.

  • Please help with importing and using imovie and idvd

    Hi,
Please forgive my lack of knowledge. I previously had a mini dv camcorder that was so easy to use with imovie hd. Now that I have switched to an HD Usb 2.0 camcorder that has built in 16gb memory and memory cards, I have had such a great deal of trouble. I really hope you can help and point me in the right directions.
Importing movies are fine, but they take so long! Currently, when I import a movie, I set the camcorder to PC mode and import through imovie. But the camcorder stays on, and I'm not sure if this is the best way or healthiest for the camcorder. Do you have a better/faster way to import movies? Is there a way to drag the video from the memory onto the computer, and then from there import the movie? I think at least I wouldn't have to leave the camcorder on.
Also, one major issue I have is that each movie is broken down into 100 or so clips. I coach basketball, and videotape the games. When there is stoppage, I pause the camcorder. I guess that creates so many clips, so that when the film is imported, there are over 100 clips for the entire movie. Is there a way of making that just 1 entire movie/clip?
Once I have imported the entire movie, which is 100+ clips, I want to simply create a dvd of the game. I know I have to share it, but do you have a better suggestion as to how I should handle this?
In the past, all I did was import the mini dv movie into imovie HD, share into idvd, and then that was it, dvd made. This process had become so time consuming.
    Please help!

Yes, I recognized there would be a slight pause between clips - but after all - you paused the camera at those points.
Putting them all in sequence in iMovie and then encoding in iDVD will take a lot of time.
An old favorite saying of mine is "not every job worth doing, is worth doing well'. The meaning being sometimes 95% is good enough so you can go on to the next job.
How much work do you want to put into each DVD? Can you live with the slight pauses?
would you suggest using a memory card?
Yes, but 16GB cards aren't cheap (yet).

  • Help with importing DVD for edit

Hey guys, i need to re-edit a film that i made using final cut pro but i deleted the rough file with all the footage and things in it and exported the final product to a dvd. i know how to import the Video_Ts and audio_ts files back on to my computer and copy the dvd but i dont know how to make that information available to put back in to fc so that i can take out some scenes that im not too happy with so i can send it to colleges. If anyone know how to do this i would be most appreciative. thanks

One clumsy but effective way to do this is:
put the dvd disk into your stand alone player.
hook the video and audio outs from the player to the a/v ins to your camcorder.
set your camcorder to do Analog/DV conversion.
connect your camcorder to your computer through firewire
in fcp set your capture to NON-CONTROLABLE device with a capture limit of the length of the DVD.
Start capturing in FCP and hit play on the DVD player.
Hit stop when you have your material.
For what it's worth - throw the camera that records mpeg2 (aka DVDs) into the nearest large body of water (lake, ocean, whatever) and get something useful. This will be a continual pain.

  • Help with importing multiple folders

    Hi,
I've just bought a new computer which has come with PE9 pre-installed. It looks like it could be a great program but ...
Two big problems. Firstly, I tried importing all my pictures from "My Pictures". All my pictures are neatly arranged into their various folders so I clicked on "My Pictures" and it imported all 2000+ photos straight away which was great. However, the big problem is that it has copied every picture individually i.e. it hasn't imported the 20 odd individual folders I had those files arranged in. So firstly, and most importantly, how do I import multiple folders at the same time or can't I? Do I need to remove everything and just copy each individual folder across one by one? Because that sounds like an awful lot of work! I'm assuming it should import multiple folders at the same time but, as usual, there's nothing I can find on the forums or the FAQs to answer the question.
Your help and advice would be gratefully received.
    Many thanks.

Elements will simply mirror your hard drive making links to each image.
When using File >> Get Photos & Videos >> From Files & Folders
You can navigate to your system folders and then check the box to include all sub folders.

  • Help with importing video; smaller F.O.V. than recorded.

I am importing clips that I shot on my Canon EOS 60D.
They are 1080p 24fps .MOV files. I may have trouble explaining my problem, so bear with me.
The image that is given to me in Premiere is considerably smaller than what I originally recorded on the camera. I am only given a portion of the image. For example, I have a shot where my parents were at the edges of the frame on my LCD. I imported the clip to Premiere and cannot see them at all, I can only see the very center of the shot.
I'm not sure if I'm shooting with the wrong settings on the camera, selecting the wrong sequence options, or importing the clips incorrectly or something.
If anyone can help me, it would help a lot! Thank you in advance.

Your sequence preset doesn't match your footage. Pick a sequence preset that does match from the New Sequence dialog, or drag a clip to the New Item button (looks like a dog-earred sheet of paper) at the bottom of the Project panel. A sequence will be create that matches your footage.
Also, make sure to set the Program Monitor zoom to "Fit."

  • Help with importing

I am attempting to import over a couple hundred GB of photos into Aperture. The current set-up is this, I have a terabyte RAID mirrored RAID (RAID 1) set up within my MacPro using disk utility. This is where I keep my images, neatly organized, in a directory structure that makes sense. I am wanting to use Aperture but I want to manage my own image library (masters) and utilize the referenced option in the software. I have attempted to import a sample test run of folders containing around 7K images in two different ways.
First: I selected File>Import>Folders as Projects and then in the Store Files option, I selected "In their current location" I would assume this would set up a referenced Aperture library that would not grow by leaps and bounds.
**It appears the files were added to the Aperture Library anyway, the library file in the Pictures directory grew to 10GB.
Second: Import Icon in tool bar. Created a new folder in Aperture and then selected the folder I wanted to import and used the following settings: Destination "The New Folder I just Created in Aperture"
Project Name: "Left as the name of the folder on the RAID"
Store Files: In their current location.
Please Help. I really want to use the software but I want to manage my own library and do not want to add hundreds of GB's to my Aperture library. In other words, I work off this master directory structure on the RAID, have the files backed up to a SAN, and dont want the computer to slow because of a huge library.
    Thanks
    Chad

    Hi Chad,
Welcome to the user-supported Aperture discussion group.
I would assume this would set up a referenced Aperture library that would not grow by leaps and bounds.
This isn't relevant to your question, but I just want to make sure you know that the adjective "referenced" applies to individual photos, not to your library. You can, of course, choose to make every photo referenced, which is your goal.
**It appears the files were added to the Aperture Library anyway, the library file in the Pictures directory grew to 10GB.
If my math is correct, your 7000 pictures made your library grow by a little over 1 megabyte per picture. It does not sound like the photos were copied to your library. 1M per picture is pretty small these days for a photo. How large are your photos to begin with?
You are probably seeing growth in your library because of new database management, as well as thumbnail and preview pictures.
You can check to see if the photos are actually referenced by option-clicking on any photo and selecting "Show in Finder". That option is available only for referenced files. (Aperture will not open a Finder into the innards of your Aperture library for managed masters.)

  • Help with importing AVHD lite

Ok.. hopefully someone can give me some help. I have a panasonic ZS3, and am frustrated with the importing of my video files.
I have read and re-read the posts on this. My problem is that sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.
iMovie, iphoto Appeture.... Right now, the videos are on the camera, but I cannot get iMovie to recognize them. I have tried just dragging files, but when I look in the AVHD folder, I cannot see any video files. What is the extension of these files?
I had a similar problem a week ago, and I tried this and that, and then by chance they showed up on iMovie.
    VERY FRUSTRATING...
is there a special sequence to make it work? ie iMovie open before plugging in camera, or keep iMovie closed and open after plugging in?
If I change to taking movies in jpeg mode, I have no problem. What is the difference ?
Any other suggestions? Love this camera, but ready to throw it out the window!
    Thanks for any help possible..

    my sharona,
I also have the ZS3 and I recently moved onto an iMac. One of the things I did that perhaps has prevented problems, is to set iPhoto->preferences->General->"Connecting Camera Opens" to "no application". I always remove the SD card from the camera, insert into the card slot, then in iMovie->File->import->Camera Archive... (the "No Name" SD card will already be selected, with the status "Camera Archive detected")->Import.
You cannot drag the camera files to iMovie. I had success bringing former ZS3 .m2ts footage from my PC and 0000.MTS off the SD card with HandBrake transcoding the files to .mp4 and then importing the .mp4 into iMovie, but this is not a good workflow. I just wanted to see how it worked.
I use VLC to view the former .m2ts footage on my iMac, but VLC does not convert.
(I did manage to fool iMovie by filming dummy footage a second or two longer than a clip I wanted to import. I then renamed the 00000.MTS file to 0000x.MTS and copied on my .m2ts file to the SD card, renaming it to 00000.MTS. When I asked iMovie to import Camera Archive... from the SD card, it imported my clip. I haven't played with editing the clip to see if the fact that the metadata did not exactly match the MTS file, messed up anything.)
You might try copying your SD card contents to a temp folder on your hard disk, then in in iMovie->File->import->Camera Archive... and point to the temp folder. iMovie should recognize the files as a camera archive and let you press the IMPORT button. (Then you can reformat the SD card in the camera since you have the files off it...just don't forget to use iPhoto or Aperture to get any photos off first.)
I hope that turning off the "open application" for iPhoto, and Aperture will solve your problem. It sounds like you could have a race condition between two applications trying to grab the camera to import.

  • Help with importing .mov file from iphoto

I have a casio exilim ex-z1080 digital camera. I have imported the jpg and mov files into iphoto, but can't seem to get it to import into imovie. i read a similar post to mine but could not understand. can anyone help in lay person's terms?
how do i get imovie to recognize the file?

What do you think is the best program to do this? is it QuickTime?
You can use MPEG Streamclip (free), GarageBand (part of iLife), or QT Pro ($30). Each will allow you to convert to any of the iMovie '08 compatible compression formats. (Just avoid Apple Animation and Apple Video which import and edit but do not export properly.) For simplicity, I would normally use use MPEG and convert to DV. This work flow produces a file that can be handled by almost any video editor and, since the format is very standardized, leaves few settings for the use to enter. All you really ned do is select the "Export to DV" File menu option, select any of the compression pop-ups (default DV25 is okay), enter your standard (NTSC or PAL), and set your aspect ratio (either 4:3 or 16:9). It is also a good habit to resample the audio to 48 Khz for consistency. Other that that, you can generally ignore the other settings. (You can also make adjustments to volume, brightness, contrast, and saturation as part of the conversion, but this isn't necessary if you are going to edit in iMovie '08 anyway.) The nice thing about this application is that it sets the anamorphic flag as part of your conversion which iMovie '08 uses in conjunction with the project properties to properly preview (or pad for preview when aspect of project does not match aspect of source file) and to set proper export dimensions (padded or otherwise) for the project aspect ratio output.

  • Help with importing photos - IPhoto assigning file names that already exist

When I import photos from my canon powershot camera, IPhoto has begun assigning file names that are the same as filenames that already exist on photos imported previously. It appears it is deleting those older files (when I go look in my photo library, the older one with the same name is now gone).
I don't know how to name photos as they are imported as it seems to be done automatically and I'm afraid to import more photos and loose my old pics. Can't find anything on the internet when I search on this question - can anyone help?

Thanks so much for your quick reply, TD.
What happens when I plug in my camera is that Iphoto opens, asks me if I want to import photos (and if I want to delete originals), and I click okay or whatever and they are imported. I name the roll/folder, and I photo puts them in the library in that folder in that year.
It makes sense that the camera is numbering them. I think that the ones it is using the same numbers for (ie - IMG0080.jpg) are the numbers on older photos that were assigned by a different camera that we used to have.
So I guess the canon isn't searching on all photo names that have been used, just the ones that it has used in the past.
Unfortunately, when the new photo is named with the same name as an old one, that old one is literally deleted - at least as far as I can tell - and when I go look for it in my photo library, it is no longer there.
I might try to see if there are any help forums for the canon powershot and see what I might learn there.
THanks so much for your help!
