  • How to install 64bit Windows 7?

Related to my other thread but a separate question (if I could delete the other thread now I would).
    My question is:
How can I install Windows 7 64bit on my new 27"iMac with pre-installed snow leopard 10.6.2?
What I have tried so far:
Tried to install 64bit Windows 7 using bootcamp. After the computer restarted itself a couple of times during the installation I got the black screen of death. I eventually had to force shut down and when restarted it said 'windows was not shut down properly'. I tried to start windows in normal mode but it didn't work (black screen of death again) I then tried to boot in safe mode but that didn't work either, the error message said it couldn't boot in safe mode and needed to restart. Went round the same cycle a couple of times but eventually I just had to hold the option key down to choose to boot from macos.
    Thanks in advance.

Here is the apple thread that i used to get past the "black screen of death".
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2207823&tstart=0
Specificly what mpuck972 says. He gives a link for the how to and he tells you what ati file you will have to delete, as the link gives you the nvidia file, which is wrong for the 27" iMac. As for the mouse and keyboard, when i first did windows 7 i had a wired keyboard and installed bootcamp 3.0, after that the keyboard and magic mouse worked fine in both windows and OSX, Its the same bluetooth chip so you shouldn't have to re-register them in either system. the only thing is you have to click the mouse once to get it to turn on in windows 7. I hop this is helpful.
P.S. in windows 7 after you get it installed there is an updated display driver available through Windows update that will give you the correct resolution, however don't do anything in fullscreen mode in windows 7 as on occasion when yo exit your video or game from full screen the screen becomes "cut" in which the top 1/4 of the screen is at the bottom, but this is fixed by a simple restart.

  • Installing Elements 11 on Mac. Need help with install error "Setup wants to make changes."

Installing Elements 11 on Mac 10.8.2. Need help with install error:  Setup wants to make changes. Type your password to allow this."  After entering Adobe password, nothing happens.  Locked from further installation.  Any ideas?  Adobe phone support could not help.

Just before letting changes (installation in this case) be made on the system, Mac OS prompts for password & this has to be the Mac system password. This password prompt is the system's own native prompt & would accept the system password only. Please make sure it is the right system password (all/admin rights) and the installaion should run.

  • Help with installing 10.6.3

Hello, I'm looking for a bit of help with installing Mac OS X 10.6.3 without screwing up.
I currently have a Macbook with 10.6.3 on it, and I want to COMPLETELY reset my Mac. I want to have a pretty much brand new Mac with 10.6.3, which I have the disk for. I actually just updated from 10.5.8, hoping that it would erase my hard drive and re-install, but it didn't. So I would like help with how to completely reset my Mac, and re-install 10.6.3.
    Thanks in advance!
    ~Dan

Use that disk, but after booting from it and before running the install, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and erase the drive.

help with installing 2 os on one hd

    RedMoose:
Congratulations on installing an upgraded HDD into your PowerBook.
I am not sure exactly what happened in the formatting process, but here are some directions that should help:
Formatting, Partitioning Zeroing a Hard Disk Drive
Warning! This procedure will destroy all data on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure you have an up-to-date, tested backup of at least your Users folder and any third party applications you do not want to re-install before attempting this procedure.
Boot from the install CD holding down the "C" key.
    Select language
Go to the Utilities menu (Tiger) Installer menu (Panther & earlier) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select Partition tab in main panel. (You are about to create a single partition volume.)
Select number of partition in pull-down menu above Volume diagram.
(Note: 1 partition is normally better for an internal HDD. External HDDs usually have more than one. See Dr. Smoke’s FAQ Backup and Recovery for tips on partitioning external HDD.)
Type in name in Name field (usually Macintosh HD)
Select Volume Format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Click Partition button at bottom of panel.
    Select Erase tab
Optional: (Select the sub-volume under Manufacturer ID (usually Macintosh HD).
Check to be sure your Volume Name and Volume Format are correct.
Select on Security Options button (Tiger) Options button (Panther & earlier).
Select Zero all data. (This process will map out bad blocks on your HDD. However, it could take several hours. If you want a quicker method, don't go to Security Options and just click the Erase button.)
    Click OK.
    Click Erase button
    Quit Disk Utility.
Open installer and begin installation process.
Please post back with further questions, comments or an update.
    Good luck.

  • Re-installing windows 8 on SSD

hello, i recently received my Lenovo Y500 (1tb, i7-3630QM, gt750m) and ordered a 120 gb samsung ssd with a HDD caddy to replace the cd/dvd drive. i managed to make Windows detect the SSD,but  when trying to migrate the C: disk, with Samsung migration software, it failed, other migration softwares also failed to migrate. i've read this has to do with the difference in cluster size so the only option i have is re-installing windows. but Lenovo didn't gave me any installation disk/recovery.. the upgrade assistant doesn't work either, gives me the error i can't use the serial to install the Retail version of windows (pre-installed serial key). so how do i get Windows 8 on the SSD?
    Solved!

    hi gashuno ,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
You can try calling your Technical Support in Your location to check If they have available Recovery Disk for WIN8.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/feedback/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76613
If not, If you know Someone or If you have a legit Windows 8 Retail Installer Disk then you can install that and the Pre-installed product key on your MOBO should Re-activate.
Please make sure to install the same exact WIN 8 version.
    Best Regards

  • Blue Screen with installing new Windows on already pre-installed one

Hello everyone, I am sorry if that topic has already been dealt with, and if I am asking about the same thing. I found a few posts relating to my problem, but it did not fully help, so...
I bought a M70 in Germany, it has Win XP HE already installed, but I wanted to install my Windows with a different language. When I boot the computer from the disk, there is first this blue screen saying that it is loading many drivers, etc. Then, it suddenly stops when it finishes loading all the stuff. There is only a cursor in the upper left corner (the one in DOS operating mode) and nothing happens. What could be a problem?
Is there some kind of blockade on the hard disk preventing me from formatting the partition and installing a different system? My own windows does not include SP2 on the cd, usually I install it later on.
I saw at least one similar post, someone suggested browsing the download section on the website to find some information, but I failed in doing that. Can someone help me? I would be extremely grateful for any information!
    mike

Hi guys, unfortunately, I am still in Germany, and I have limited access to any windows software. I can use a Win XP SP2 install cd only when I go home next month, so right now I am trying whatever else I can. I thought of installing the Windows from the recovery cd on another partition, but it stubbornly wants to do it on the main one, wanting to completely remove everything from the main partition. At least, then I could format the C partition using Windows installed on another partition, but it does not work anyway. I guess I have no other choice but to wait until I have access to a cd with Win XP SP2 on it. I really hope that is the cause of the problem. I will try to get any other copy of Win just to try it out, and I will keep you guys informed. If you have any other ideas, share them with me, please.
    Regards, Mike.

  • Help with Installing flash error- metafile cannot be loaded

I read the forum on this but it ended last year and there was no response to some recent questions on this and the direct email to the Adobe rep. on there got no response.
I am having this problem with installing Flash- it gets about 30% of the way and then a message comes up that says the metafile cannot be loaded.
I am running 10.7.5 on Mac, all browser software is current. I use both Safari and Chrome. After it said Flash was out of date I tried to update but got the metafile error. So I uninstalled Flash to install it fresh but the same error came up. I tried everything recommended from the forum. I also did all the steps from the help list direct from Adobe ( deleting Flash files, folders, rebooting, etc.) The offline link Adobe provides says the "file cannot be found" so I can't download that either. So I tried the online link download, but even after doing all the steps in order etc. I still get the error when I try to install it.
I have no firewall and have no virus software running. I also tried the direct offline links that others have provided from 2013, (unfortunately they are old)  in both clicking on them and also downloading by right click but they are dead links and even  the download for it has no content.
Any help that is more recent than last year? If this is in the wrong place, apologies. New to the forum.

I tried all solutions but one posted in adobe support. I am local administrator but IE security settings are set by group policies and buttons in tools security setting are grayed out.
After three days with "The ActiveX control for Flash Player could not be registered" message I tried registering the activeX control manually.
    Bingo! that made the trick.
So open a DOS window, type "regsvr32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash10d.ocx" -first check if this directory exists and contains the Flash10d.ocx (no quotes needed) and you should receive a confirmation that it registered correctly.
I must say that I've tried so many ways that I cannot repeat the correct order before this has worked ;-(
Hope it works for you all

  • Help with installing trail

i need help installing my after effects cs5 on my windows xp serves pack 2. when i go to setup it says that i need to exit installer and try again but that does not do any thing so i just click the ignore and continue button. once the installer is done, a new page shows up and says that there was an error and "Adobe After Effects CS5 is installable only on a 64-bit system". I looked on my control panel to see what i am running on and it says an 64 processor. i am stumped please help!

CS5 is not compatible with XP. XP was only available in 2 64 bit versions. Chances are you do not have one of these versions unless you specifically installed either Windows XP 64 or Windows XP Professional 64. Both of these versions only worked with certain processors.
On the Adobe site the System Requirements specifically do not mention XP so I don't believe that any flavor of XP will allow installation.

  • Need help with Verizon DSL & Windows XP

    Hello All,
I am personally running Verizon FIOS without any problems. However, my father-in-law still has Verizon DSL, which he has been using without any problems for the last 4 years until now.
To make the long story short, it seems that the LAN card that came with his old Dell PC died. I pulled it (there is no LAN NIC on the motherboard), and installed a new LAN card, which supports 10/100 MBps and is RoHS complient. However, for some unknown still to us reason, he is getting the LAN "Limited Connection" error.
I have tried everything I could think of, and spent over 6 hours with 3 different Verizon DSL tech support folks. However, we cannot even get to 192.168.1.1 (which is the address of the Westell 6100). I have tried even slowing the LAN card to 10 Mbps / Half-Duplex (or Full). TCP/IPv4 is set to obtain IP / DNS automatically and etc...  It's also set to DHCP.
We know fo sure that his Verizon DSL connection does work. Why? Because when I plugged in the same Ethernet cable into a laptop that I brought with me, we had an instant Internet connection (running Windows 7).
So it must be something within Windows XP that is blocking access. I am trying to do everything to not having for him to buy a new computer at this time and save the current system.
I have deleted any and all Network cards drivers in the Control Panel / System / Devices. I have NOT messed with any registry tricks, but am now willing.
Any and all help with suggestions is greately appreciated.

Best guess is that you need a WindowsXP compatible driver for your new LAN card.   You definitely need a driver, so if you "deleted any and all Network cards drivers" it isn't going to work.  Go to the company website for the new LAN card and they should have a suitable driver.
There should not be any need to mess with the registry.

  • Help with Open Browser Window

I built a site named greenscapepump.com. I used the behavior
"Open Browser Window" that allows a photo to be viewed in a smaller
window. I have it set up to double-click the photo name to go to
the browser window. It works on some computers but not others. I
used the same behavior on other pages in the same web site and it
    is working on all computers.
The three pages under the menu "Portfolio" are: Architectural
Fountains, Waterfalls and Streambeds, and Floating Fountains, are
the pages that have problems with this behavior on some computers.
Is this an individual computer problem, or do I need to do
something in Dreamweaver to fix it?

OMG - the code on the architecturalfountains page is a horror
Why do you need to use doubleclick.... most users are
    accustomed to clicking
on a link wait for something to happen....
Also, the code for that dropdown is massive... are you really
    committed to
    that menu?
The validator found quite a few errors on that particular
    page - I didn't
test each page (that's up to you :) these errors aren't
    helping with your
page load also - one of the pages (can't recall which now)
    just kept trying
to load and never did stop... try fixing the errors (some
    more important
than others to the well being of your page) and then see
    where you are at
with your pages... I'd also suggest changing the
    'doubleclick' to just the
one click - really no need for anything else.

Hi Rory, be aware that running CS2 products on Snow Leopard isn't going to be a supported combination. Here's a related thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/499253. Apparently some customers have been able to run CS2 software on Snow Leopard. You can also check with our chat support at http://adobe.ly/v6wfLL. However, I can't be certain that they'll be able to assist you. You might want to consider upgrading.
