Help with installing new graphics card

Hi I have a 3 year old hpe575a (hp pavillion)
Intel i7 2600, 8gb ram
Orginally had a ati hd radeon  2gb (not sure what model)
in it
after 2 years the radeon finally melted ( always had overheating problems in the australian summer )
so I bought a nvidia gtx630m which had the same connections and power requirements and connections as the radeon
I csnt seem to get it working, despite the card powering up, and loading the splash screen it doesnt go any further, I can get to the network boot screen or the hp splash screen but no further, and I cant find any bios updates for my mptherboard (pegatron) so do I need a new motherboard? The computer works 100% fine without the new graphics card
Should I get a new motherboard. Or graphics card? which would be cheaper? or is there someway to get the current system to work with the new graphics card? thanks -zac

Hi,
The existing card is an "AMD Radeon HD6570 (2 GB)". I don't know how you can fit a Nvidia GTX630M to your machine because this card is for laptop:
     http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-630m/specifications
Probably you are talking about the following card:
    http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gt-630/specifications
The card should be able to use 300W PSU on your machine (no need new PSU). My suggestion:
(a) Update BIOS to the latest one, please check, should be "Version7.15 Rev. A" the motherboard is Cleveland
     http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=cp-101150-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
(b) Install driver for new card
Hope this helps.
Note: Autumn now but still hot isn't it ?

  • How to install new graphics card

Hi everyone. I have an intel mac pro and i want to install my pci express ati xtx 1900 card into it. It fits in the slot nice and snug but requires the 6 pin power cable to run the card. I have no idea where this is inside the mac and need help getting my new graphics card to work. i know this card works on a mac so how to i do this. please, please someone help. thank you

If you click on the "manuals" from the small strip above, then click on Desktop -> Mac Pro ->

There is a pdf. You should also have a small booklet that came with the Pro, and I am surprised the card doesn't come from Apple with a guide and photos.

  • No Signal after installing new graphics card

Hello and thanks in advance for your help!
We have a 2yr old HP p6540y.  It has an ATI integrated Video Card. When we recently turned it on, we got a 'no signal' message on the monitor and then it would go to sleep.  We have tried several things to fix...listed below, in order, and are still getting the same message.  Please advise!
    1) No Signal: DVI, VGA, HDMI.  So we unplugged and restarted, no change.
    2) Checked monitor and DVI & VGA cords with another computer: They all work.
    3) Installed new Graphics Card: NVIDIA GEForce GT 610.  Still got same 'no signal' message.
    4) We plugged/unplugged all other cards/cords/anything we could and cleaned out.  Then, finally, the monitor turned on! But not for long....
    5) After restarting computer after installation of graphics card driver, we got the 'no signal' message again.  We once again, pulled out other cards/plugs and again the monitor/computer came to life.
    6) We unistalled the integrated ATI graphic card.  When we go to Display, Advanced Options, it lists our new NVIDIA as graphic/display card.
    7) We turned computer off overnight and this morning when we turned on, we once agin got the 'no signal' message.  We unplugged/plugged computer in several times.  Also tried the trick with pulling out cards/plugs and we got nothing.  No Signal.  After doing this several times (about 10), it finally worked again.
    8) We changed sleep settings to: Screensaver=Never; Sleep Mode=Never.
    9)  We restarted again to once again get no signal message.
So...what do we need to do?
    Thanks so much!

    Triusa, welcome to the forum.
I suspect that your problem is caused by the power supply unit (PSU).  Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot the problem:

Also, the existing PSU is 250W.  The GT 610 requires a minimum of 300W.

  • 3000 j115 A11 stopped working after installing new graphics card

I thought i would be slick and install a new graphics card (asus GEForce 8500GT) after i put it in my 3000 j115 A11 everything stopped working. I can turn the tower on and it gives two beeps. Nothing displays on the monitor (it doesn't leave powersaving mode). It is also very quiet like it is not even trying to work. Did I just destroy my computer? Is there anything I can do?
PS. I did take the asus card back out, so I'm not that lucky
PSS. Got back to being able to boot but now I can't get back into bios to switch from PCI back to original built in card. If I try it just hangs after pressing enter to interupt normal setup

I find this thread very interesting. I am assuming this system (3000 j115 A11) is the same as one I mentioned in a post from June 12 (7387A11... Graphics upgradeable?).... and is still hanging out there. Perhaps if Lenovo, or anybody else for that matter, could/would provide SPECIFIC upgrade instructions we could all be enlightened. (In my case I do not own a Lenovo computer but I am hoping to help my sister-in-law with her Lenovo and don't look forward to a major meltdown if the systems are not capable of this, otherwise, simple upgrade.)
Niether of the 2 previous posters mentioned if they upgraded the PS in thier respective systems prior to the graphics card installation (although ala17 "recently" did.). One had issues and the other didn't. If that should be the first step toward the upgrade, it would be helpful to know beforehand.
Thanks and good luck. Post back if you get to the bottom of it.

  • How to install new graphic card?

I would like to try to upgrade my graphic card (currently have a GeForce 7300) to run newer games on my pc, but have never opened the back of a computer before.  I was hoping someone might be able to help.  Is it as easy as just removing the old card and installing the new one?
I was thinking of replacing it with a Geforce 9500 or 9600.  My computer has an AMD 6400 dual processor 2.80 ghz with 2 GBs of RAM so the new graphics card should fit, right?
Much thanks for any thoughts and advice.

Yep just remove and replace. Just make sure its the correct type (AGP, PCI-e, etc) thats already in there.
The instructions with the card are pretty simple.
    1. unplug computer and remove all cords.
    2. lay computer on table.
    3. unscrew case screws and slide cover (side cover or whole cover depending on make) off.
    4. lay computer on side so you can see the mother board.
    5. touch metal chassis before touching any component.
    6. unscrew screw that holds the part of the vid card at the back slots.
    7. unplug any cable to the vid card.
    8. theres a latch that needs to be unlocked before removing card. unlock it (usually slides to the front of the computer, dont force anything)
    9. pull vid card straight out.
install new card in reversed order. Make sure you install the new cards software/drivers according to instructions.

  • Installing new graphics card in hp p7-1155

I have a new EVGA GEFORCE GT730 2GB GDDR5 graphics card and am ready to install it in the above box.
Haggiscat suggested this board thru a previous post on this site. I have printed out the install directions from the hp help so I have the mechanics of how to install this thing. Those directions say to disable the on-board graphics card first, then go into the box and install the new card. My question is: Do I need to do anything else first such as downloading the driver first/delete the old driver first.etc? Also, I have a disc that came with the new card. Do I use that to get the drivers or go to the invidia website? I want this install to go as smoothly as possible so expert help would be appreciated.
I'm not sure how to direct you to the previous post but it's in this section. Take a look for some background.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I suggest that your carefully read the instructions published by EVGA.   I have multiple EVGA graphics cards and none of the directions ever suggested to uninstall the old video drivers prior to installing the new graphics card.  Use the drinver disk that comes with the graphics card after your boot up. The default Windows drivers will work and then you can install the EVGA supplied drivers.  EVGA also has a web site that you can obtain later drivers that have been tested by EVGA for your graphics card.
The modern HP motherboards will automatically switch to the discrete graphics card if detected and if it is compatible with the BIOS and motherboard.
The NVIDIA 7xx series graphic cards have been problematic with HP motherboards using a version 7 BIOS.  some may work and some may not work.
The reality is that there is no a guarantee that any particular graphics card will work in any particular PC even if the graphics card works in other PCs or even the same or similar model PCs. Know what the return policy is before you buy.

Based on the specs for your HP Pavilion p6-2160eo Desktop Computer, this model has 1 PCI Express x16 (Gen2.0), 3 PCI Express x1 (Gen2.0) and, 1 PCI Express Mini Card x1slots. This model also has a 300 watt power supply which will limit your choice of retail graphics unless it is replaced with a more powerfull unit.

  • Crashes ather installing new Graphics Card

    Hi;
I have installed a new MSI 6600GT AGP to my mobo yesterday. Everyting worked fine that day. But today my PC randomly stops responding, totally freezes. My Old GPU was a fx5600 and there was no problem with it. But I  had a bsod problem that time and solved it by increasing my RAM voltage to 2.7(thx to this forum)
With my new video card my PC totally stops responding. The screen freezes. I am using two sticks of Kingston Value RAM 256x2 at 400mhz Dual and PAT enabled. I tried removing one of the sticks and my problem dissappeared. Both of the sticks run fine this way. But When I use them together my PC crashes. changing the voltage, ram slots, single mode or disabling the PAT didnt worked. As you may understand 256 is not enough for a gamer. I want to use my two sticks in dual mode (I am using default timings CL3 so on) In fact I dont even know if it is a RAM problem at all.
I thought about PSU issue or a overheating issue. But there is no fluctiuation in voltages, no overheating on GPU, RAMs or GPU. My PSU has
    +12v  18A
    +5v    28A
    +3.3v  30A
It is a Aopen/FSP AO35012APN(PF) with Passive PFC 350 watts.
I couldnt find an option on my bios to disable fastwrites for my card. Fastwrites can be disabled any other way?
I have also format my machine but it didnt work.
I beg your help. or i will go mad..
    My system specs:
    P4 2.8 Presc. HT@Stock HSF / MSI i865PE Neo 2 PLS / 256x2 Kingston DDR400 RAM / MSI NX6600GT VTDR 128 AGP 8x VIVO / 80GB Samsung SATA 7200@8MB / 52x Aopen CDROM / 52x32x52x16 Samsung Combo / Creative Audigy 2ZS / Philips MMS 460 5.1 / Datron DpF7700 / Pikatel Quartet ADSL Router / Hw hosting by Aerocool AeroEngine Mid-Tower case powered by Aopen A0350PN(PF) 350W PSU and cooled by 2x 4cm(NB-VGA), 2x 8cm(Case), 2x 12cm(Case, PSU)

Of course it'll be good if the card was the problem .
Btw, those are just "reported" numbers for the "card's power consumption" and should not be trust. Didn't Intel previously mentioned about low heat and low power consumption for their E stepping CPUs? What turns out was a minimum of 20A is needed on +12v and expecting to see 50c on the CPU temp idle...
To say that FX5600 consumes more power than NX6600, I don't think I can agree with that since NX6600 is at the higher end core than FX5600 but if you want to have the figures of power consumption, sorry that I can't produced any just that it is true. Just think of why would PSU manufacturers comes out with more high power PSU rather than improving on the low power PSUs?

  • 6 beeps after installing new graphic card

Hi I just bought a new graphic card for my p6-2055sc and it makes 6 beeps when trying booting up.

  • Problem with installing new line card 7600-SSC-400

    Hi all,
I have a trouble when trying to install new line card 7600-SSC-400 on Cisco 6509. Here was the message displays on the screen after I finished installing the line card : "%C6KPWR-SP-4-UNSUPPORTED: unsupported module in slot 7, power not allowed: The image for the card is not bundled in image." I tried to install this line card on another slot, but it doesn't work. The attched item is logfile which I saved in the installing session. I don't know what I hvae to do now, please help me to resolve this problem !
    Thanks so much,
    Hieu

    Hi Hieu,
You might want to run the following to see more detail of the error:
show diagnostic result module all detail
And I would also suggest that you reseat the 7600-SSC-400 line card firmly back to the switch, and check the status again.
If it's still showing the error, maybe you can try seating the module on a different slot, and check if you have the same issue.
If the issue still persist after reseating and testing it on different slot, then it might be a hardware issue, and you might want to open a TAC case to further investigate it.
    Hope that helps.

    Hi,
I just bought the ASUS Geforce GTX 750ti STRIX OC Edition (without external power connector).
After I installed it, I wont get past the HP welcome screen. It gives one beep 3 times, and then 1 and 2 short before the screen turns black.
    My computer is:
    HP P7-1072sc
    (I have installed a 500w power supply.)
    Running on windows 7
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
There is a BIOS update posted for you PC but I don't think that it will solve your problem.  You might want to install it and see if anything changes.
You may have to RMA the graphics card back to ASUS.  ASUS may be able to flash the BIOS on the card to make it work or replace it with a different graphics card that will work.
Many of the NVIDIA GTX 750 graphics cards are enabled for a full UEFI BIOS PC and your PC is not at that level.

  • Need help with power supply & graphics card upgrades

I have a HP Pavilion p6320y that I bought 8 months ago. AMD Phenom II x4820 Quad Core processor.   I play WoW and since the last big patch, have been suffering with low fps. I updated drivers and followed all the advice given to me by Blizz and finally figured out that my Nvidia GeForce 9100 (integrated graphics) isn't good enough anymore.
I checked my computer and discovered that I have a 300w power supply (12V) and read on another post here that something stronger than 300w is needed to run a decent graphics card.
    Now for my questions:
How much of a power supply can I upgrade to without hurting my computer, but will be enough to run a good card?
What would be a good graphics card for this computer?
I've been looking at the Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express graphics card and wonder if that will work on my computer.  Most of the nicer cards seem to be the PCI Express and I'm not sure if that will work.
Any advice will be most helpful. I have some experience with the inner workings of my PC and would like to fix this myself instead of running to the closest computer shop and paying someone else to. Thanks!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Well, you are starting out from a fairly low baseline with the integrated graphics. It will not cost much to have a substantial increase if all you want to do is run WoW without error messages. Yes, the 300w power supply is an issue and rules out any card that will require its own power (i.e. needs its own power cord like a hard drive) but there are several mid-grade cards that can run off bus power alone (i.e. just from the pci-e slot itself). Just taking a quick look at newegg.com I see the following:
    GeForce 9400 under $50
    Radeon HD 4650 under $50
    GeForce 9500GT a little over $50
Any of these should get you where you want to be and not require a PS upgrade. The slot you have available is a PCI Express x16 slot so don't look at AGP cards; they will not work. If you want to install the card you mention you need to get a better PSU.

  • Hard drive issue since installing new graphics card

    Hello,
I've just bought and installed an MSI GeForce GTX 770 GAMING to replace my old SAPPHIRE HD 4890.
I uninstalled the ATI drivers and the version of PhysX already on the machine and have installed the latest drivers from the NVIDIA site and when I try to load Windows the hard drive appears to spin down and Windows just sits there (animations continue and I can move the mouse around). I can get into safe mode without a problem.
The rest of my setup is:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS
    Dell 2408WFP monitor
    Antec Three Hundred case
750W Be Quiet Dark Power Pro power supply
    6 GB Corsair DDR3 RAM
    Gigabyte EX58-UD4 motherboard
    Intel Core i7 920 D0 processor
640 GB Western Digital Caviar Black hard drive
    Samsung SH-223B optical drive
I have the latest BIOS update for my motherboard.
I was a bit concerned that a power supply issue was causing the hard drive to spin down when the graphics card comes into use, i.e. as soon as Windows starts. I can get to the login screen before it happens.
I wondered if the fact that the card connects to the power supply via two 12V x 20A connections and the graphics card requires 42A might be the problem. I think I misunderstood this when I checked the power supply initially as the table in the manual shows 60A total between all 12V connections, but I didn't notice that the individual connections are only 20A. Hope that makes sense, I'm a bit new to this!
If I need a new power supply can someone suggest one? If not can anyone think of any other reason for this problem?
    I would appreciate any advice.

The card itself doesn't require 42A on +12v. These requirements are for an entire system with a GTX770. While we recommend single rail psus your one should still be sufficient.
Use >>Driver Fusion<< in safemode to safely remove the AMD and Nvidia driver and reboot. Then install Nvidia latest: http://www.nvidia.com/object/win8-win7-winvista-64bit-320.49-whql-driver.html

  • Msi-6714 motherboard trying to install new graphics card

    can anyone help me
i have tried installing an ati radeon 9600 graphics card on my msi motherboard and it wont take it
it will find it in bios but as soon as it boots in to windows it throws it out
the motherboard currently has onboard graphics which i have tried disableing but still cannot get the card to work
know the card is ok as it has been tested on another machine
    yours hopefully

Normally, on-board VGA should get disabled when inserting a Graphiccard in AGP slot.
If not, this is done in bios.
According to your info, Looks like the Powersupply could be the issue.
Even if you don´t have the latest highperformance components, you still need at least some 400w with 18amp on the 12v line and 28amp on the 3,3v / 30amp on the 5v.
If it still not working you could remove PC powercable and clear CMOS jumper on MoBo ( read manual )
Please make full system spec incl. Powersupply.
