HELP WITH INTERNAL UPGRADES TO MY LAPTOP

I WOULD LIKE TO UPGRADE MY SPEAKERS IN MY LAPTOP, THAT I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED, HOW CAN I DO THIS? AND WHERE?
ALSO I WANTED TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL FAN AS WELL, MY LAPTOP IS PRONE TO OVERHEATING HOW CAN I DO THIS?

Just as a polite request: Please use mixed case. Using all upper case is the equivalent of shouting. It's considered impolite.
Be sure you've removed the clear plastic strip that covers the rear air vent on the computer just below the lid.
If you believe the computer is not functioning properly then take it to your local Apple service center for repair. All Intel laptops (even those not made by Apple) run hot. It's not abnormal. If you want a cooler computer you'll need to get one that doesn't use an Intel Core 2 Duo chip or is twice as thick and 2 pounds heavier for the heat sink.

  • Help with system upgrade for CS6

Hello. I am hoping you can give me some advice on what to do (or buy) to improve my video editing system.  I am a bit of novice when it comes to the technical/hardware end of things and I’m having some issues with my current system.
I working in Adobe CS6 Master Suite on a Windows 7 Ultimate PC.  I mainly use Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and Audition.  I create very complete animations and videos with many layers and effects (via Boris & Red Giant).  I also use Skype to record group video calls (with the program Evaer) for a reality T.V. recap show which I also edit with my Adobe suite.  However I have two main problems.
When I render out a 20 minute premier pro project (with several HD video layers and effects) it takes almost 13 hours.  It seems like this is very long considering my high end components, and set up.  For example I run ONLY my OS off an SSD.  My programs are on another SSD.  The files I use for the video are on another HDD, and I render to another HDD.  I was told by keeping all the aspects on separate hard drives it would speed everything up.  Is that true?  I also am now reading that rendering to a SSD would speed things up.  Should I consider changing my workflow/hard drive set up that way?
My other problem is that when I record my Skype group calls of 4 people (with Evaer) to my SSD the audio is always off when I bring it into Premiere.  I don’t know if this is a problem with Evaer, a codec (it records it as H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Codec.  At 1280 X 720 and 30fps), that SSDs auto compress files, or that my system just cant handle it.  Plus Soundblaster & Nvida both seem to active as audio features on my system I don’t know if that effects anything.  Is there any advice any of you have on this issue as well?  Perhaps another program to record skype or group calls?
Finally… all that aside.  Considering the work I am doing should I just upgrade my system to a better Mobo and graphics card.  I see a lot of people are recommending a dual processor work station.  If so what is a good motherboard, and processor(s) I should get if I build my own workstation?  I have about $4000.00 I could invest in building one if you think would greatly improve my work flow and render times.  I also have a quadro k5000 on the way, and id like to be able to use the memory I have already.
I realize I am asking a lot of questions.  I would truly appreciate any help, advice or just a point in the right direction.  I have included my current system specs below incase that helps with any of my questions.  If you have any other questions or need more information just let me know.  Thank you again in advance for any help you can provide.

    Eric,
I would hardly call the Quadro card an upgrade to a GTX 680!
Regarding getting more speed from a faster MB / CPU, since you already have a 6-core rig with 24GB of RAM I would think that any gains you would get would not be that dramatic.
Check out your cpu usage (Task manager) and see how busy your cores are during a test render. I am guessing that the Boris and / or Red Giant effects could be jumping your projects from gaining the full multi-core capabilities of the Adobe software.

  • My 1st iMac, need help with the upgrade to Leopard CPU Drop-In DVD

Hello all, my 1st post as a new Apple switcher!
I just received my new iMac 24" today, and I am not sure about the upgrade to Leopard. (Came pre-installed with Tiger, and came with a Leopard CPU Drop-In DVD). I have read about a few issues with the upgrade / re-install process to Leopard, stemming from the rumor that the Leopard CPU Drop-In DVD is not a full version, but an upgrade only.
First of all, obviously I am supposed to put in the "Drop-In DVD" and let it rip, but there are several options to pick from. One of them is upgrade, and another is to erase the hard drive and perform a clean install.
    My questions are:
If I perform the erase and install, I have heard that iLife 08 will not be installed. If so, where / how do I reinstall that and any other apps that are left out?
Secondly, in the future, if I need to re-install again, will this "Drop-In DVD" work because Tiger has been removed from the hard drive? Will I just pop in my Tiger disks like the old Windows stuff required?
I plan on just doing the upgrade, but I would like to know what to do in the future if I have to do an erase / install.
Thank you, and the iMac 24" is gorgeous!

Hey, I know what you mean.
I upgraded to Leopard after buying my first mac with Tiger.
I rang customer service and asked how do I install iLife 08 if I do a clean instal,l as when i upgraded my Safari would not play flash, quicktime or open certain websites. Also I had a very long load up period with Blue Screen which bothered me a lot. (I know I am fussy)
Anyway my brother suggested I use Pacifist to get the .pkg files from the Tiger boot disk. He took control of my machine as he has Leopard and did this for me remotely as I am not a wizard like him.
By the way that is a great feature of Leopard.
Anyway this worked for me, only iMovie would not start properly but when I download the updates to iLife 08 they all work perfectly now. Saved my 79 euro as well instead of having to buy again as I think iLife should be supplied on a separate disk, (bad form apple) as they know for many a clean install is likely if they experience serious issues upgrading.
Anyway pacifist http://www.charlessoft.com/ is worth a try if you can't afford to fork out for iLife again like me.
Just make sure you select all the iLife .pkg files and composer files. when it installs if the files are already there just click leave alone and it will install only what it needs. Then run the updates if you have any issues opening any of the programs such as imovie and this should replace any missing files.
I have open and run all the iLife programs and so far so good.

  • Need help with backing upgrading iphone

    Hi Forum community!
So I finally decided to upgrade from the 1st gen iphone to the 3GS. The problem is that the laptop I was syncing my old iphone on crashed and I lost everything >:^(
So basically I have all the videos and songs stuck on my old iphone. When I try to sync with another laptop I get a message that all of my old songs will be deleted since none of them are in the new laptop's itunes playlist.
Question: How do I get all my media off of my old iphone and onto my new one without losing any data?? (again, there is no backup of the songs or videos)
thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated.
    -MO-

The problem is that most of my music was unpurchased (they are uncopywrited live DJ mixes). The videos are DVDs that I converted so that I can watch them on the iphone.
Any ideas on how I can transfer the files to my computer?

  • Need help with internal HD memory problems when using Premiere Pro?

When using PP I keep loosing memory on my HD.
Now this seems strange to me since I have every thing, all my video and audio files on external HDs.
Each time I time I make a new project I end up with less space on my internal HD.
Information related to these projects is somehow remaining on my internal HD.
Anyone got any ideas about what I might be doing wrong?
    Dimitrije

Premiere will slowly compile various files to help the project along, and the default place is usually your internal hard drive. Make sure your scratch disks are pointed to an external hard drive if that is what you want, also, make sure the Media Cache Files are being created on your external as well (and not the default location which is on your local drive).
    Premiere Preferences > Media
Media Cache Files & Media Cache Database should be changed to an external disk if you don't want them created on your local disk. There are many tutorials and explanations about all of these aspects of Premiere on these forums and from other sources. Hope that helps!

  • Help with international settings - the menu bar flag is gone!

The flag no longer appears in my menu bar, nor does the "show input menu in the menu bar" check box in the international section of the System Preferences stay checked. I no longer seem able to type in Chinese, which is what I really need to be able to do.
    Help? Thanks!

Hi Crimsoncat and welcome to the forums!
Seems your Chinese has been taken away...
    (Sorry, just could not resist!)
Now for solving your problem! When did this start happening? Have you tried a bit of maintenance, like:
Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.

An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Help with International Spam

    Hello,
I have tried multiple attempts at writing rules that absolutely block international spam. Seems most of it is in French. I've set rules to delete mail with certain characters, etc. Nothing seems to work. I just want the Mail application to delete each one, not even show up in my junk folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't found a decent solution to foreign-language spam other than to use a bayesian anti-spam filter such as SpamSieve.

It's well worth the price, IMHO.

  • Help with Adobe CC on my laptop in Win XP please?

I have to go to Fla and can't take my desktop, but I still need to work. It's a HUGe Alienware computer. I wondered if I can put a second copy of Adobe CC on my laptop and use it there? It's kind of old, and runs on Windows Xp. Will that work? Can I do that? oh, and umm, how would I do that? And while I am pestering you wonderful helpful souls, does anyone know how to get Adobe CC to work with windows 8 so my screen doesn't flicker when I am using my wacom tablet and pen?? That just drives me crazy...Thanks so much!
    Lauera

Windows XP may or may not work for the CC version of the product. You can check the System Requirements from the Products page https://creative.adobe.com/products. Choose a product and then select the System Requirements tab.
You should be able to use Windows XP with the CS6 versions of the products which are available by selecting CS6 from the product page and then choosing Download.

  • Need help with a upgrade problem

    Hi Guys,

  • Help with Logic 7.x on laptops

I have two laptops both running 10.4.3 and logic pro 7.1.1
titanium PowerBook G4 1 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 100GB 7200 rpm internal HD.
(one firewire 400 port, two usb 1.0 ports)
aluminum PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 120GB 5400 rpm internal HD.
(one firewire 800 port, one firewire 400 port, two usb 2.0 ports)
I currently have protools LE 6.9.2 and an mbox. i also have a 250GB firewire 800/400/usb2 hard drive i can put into service. I took the plunge with logic because it was half price when i bought the powerbook.
i'm reading some people having trouble using an mbox with logic pro, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus. are there some success stories out there?
going forward, i'm thinking i might like something more os x compatible and i may be doing some movie soundtrack work so i've been investigating the firewire-based focusrite saffire as a possible purchase.
with the newer aluminum powerbook, am i asking for trouble if i set up the 250GB drive on the fw 800 port and the saffire on the fw 400 port? if they share the same bus, will there be trouble? any experiences out there?
with the older titanium powerbook, there's only one firewire port. can a hard drive hang off the saffire (or any fw interface) and work without issues?
    and just as an aside...
    XSkey - usb
    MIDI keyboard - usb
    hard drive - firewire
    saffire - firewire
    mbox - usb
is anyone noticing a port shortage on their laptops? too bad the XSkey can't function as a thru. i know usb doesn't really permit that though. hey apple, can you make my bluetooth phone an XSkey?
    -n.

The Saffire is supposed to be excellent. The M-Box works with Logic, but it's nowhere near the level of the Saffire.
You may want to spend $20 on a USB hub. It'll give you like 4 more USB ports.
There should be no hassles running a FW800 HD and a FW400 Audio interface on your Aluminum PB cuz it has two ports and that's ideal. Why would there be probs with that.
On your TiBook, you may want to go with that last recommendation and connect the drive after the Audio Interface on the FW chain. Obviously, you'll have to use the FW400 port on your LaCie when using it with the TiBook/Saffire. No biggie. Just slower audio.
Why do you want/need to use both laptops with the same Audio interface and hard drive? Are you doing nodes?

  • Seeking help with software upgrade questions for my PowerBook G4

I am seeking help/advice for a very low tech guy. I upgraded my PowerBook G4 (ancient I know but I have trouble with our thow away society), to Leopard 10.5.2. However, my iDVD no longer works. I plan on upgrading to iLife'08, but based on the system requirements, I am not certain all of the features (i.e. iMovie'08) will work on my older processor. Before I upgrade to iLife, can anyone tell me if I should do it and if they will work on my all the features will work on my PowerBook G4?

Many prefer iLife'06 to '08, but we went from '05 to '08.
You are correct in that iMovie'08 will not run on your Book, but when you install iLife'08 you are given the opportunity to download iMovie'06 for free.
I can't vouch for it fixing your iDVD however.

  • Need Help with Internal RAID

I'm working with 1080i HD footage (captured from a Canon HV30) and output through an Intensity Pro PCIe card to a 1080p display while working on Final Cut Studio 2. I have two separate monitors outputing 1920 x 1080.
I'm working on a 2.8GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeo Mac Pro with 10GB of RAM and a 320GB Hard Drive. Quicktime stumbles over 1080 footage from FCP, skipping frames, so I need to stripe some drives, internally if possible (there's three slots available for drives).
I already own an additional 1.5TB SATA hard drive, and am wondering...
What size drives would be ideal to handle 1080 footage? Would 500GB drives be enough, 1TB, or 1.5TB? Should the drives all be the same size?
Do I need a PCIe card to stripe these drives together or is the OSX Disk Utility sufficient?
Will I need to stripe three drives, or is two sufficient? Should I stripe together the main drive too or stripe the drives separate from the main hard drive?
Help on any one of these questions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Ok, now that you have freed up some space on your system HD, the next thing would be to do a little system maintenance.
First, shut down your Mac and restart it. Don't just log out. Shut it down. Power it off. Then restart. In System Preferences, turn off Time Machine if you have it running. Also put your system HD in the Spotlight privacy list (aka System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy > Prevent Spotlight from Searching These Locations.)
Then, if you don't already have one, download a utility like Cocktail, Onyx, MacJanitor, etc. and run it. (You have Leopard, so make sure you download the appropriate version of the utility.) Make sure there are NO other applications running when you run the utility. When you run it, accept all the default operations and also check the option to clear the system cache; you want to clear the system cache. Also set it to shut down your Mac after running. (If there is no such option, you should manually shut down your Mac after the utility runs - and I mean shut down, not just log off.) The first time you restart after running the utility & clearing the system cache, your Mac will take longer than normal to boot; don't worry, that only happens the first time, as your system will be rebuilding the system cache.
Next, you should probably delete any render files that currently exist and re-render your video.
Then try exporting your video again, and see what happens.
