Help with internet on iPhone 5

I bought my white iPhone 5 in July of last year from Walmart. I paid $650 for it, then drove to an apple store and purchased insurance directly from Apple for $100. The service provider I have is Straight Talk which is $45 per month for unlimited talk, texts, and internet. The only problem is, my phone is extemely slow when I try to use the internet and often the internet does not work at all. I thought it was becuase of the area I live in, but my dad bought a Galaxy s3 and uses the same Straight Talk service as I do and his internet works almost always. I do not want to give up my iPhone for a different brand because I like it, but I need internet to work without using wifi.

Straight Talk is an MVNO that provides service using other carriers networks. They have service available on both GSM and CDMA networks. The iPhone sold by StraightTalk is a CDMA phone.
Make sure the account is properly provisioned for LTE service. It is possible that your father is using a GSM device which operates on a different network entirely.  It's possible the data coverage in your area is much better on the GSM network than it is on the CDMA network.

    I assume when you say "pin" you mean passcode.  If it's disabled from entering the wrong passcode too many times you'll have to restore it to remove the passcode.  If you have iOS 7 with Find My iPhone enabled, you'll either have to force it into recovery mode to restore it (as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808) or go to icloud.com and use Find My iPhone to erase it.  After doing so, restore your most recent backup.

  • PLEASE help with back up iphone 3gs to windows 7? cant find files!

    Can someone PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I am at my wits end with this. I have an Iphone 3GS with softare 3.1.3 . I am trying to back up my contacts/calendar/apps so I can download the newer software version 5 and so I can get a new Iphone 4S.
    As I have  window 7, when I sync my device. It chooses to sync Contacts to 'Windows Contacts' and Calendar to 'Outlook' and Bookmarks to 'Internet Explorer' and Notes to 'Outlook'
    I do not use Outlook but have it on this laptop. However when I looked at it to find my iphone calendar and notes, they are not there.
    Also I cannot locate my Contacts anywhere on my laptop
    They are not in Users/(username)/ apps
    as I dont have a folder under user name that is called Apps!
    Any help would be much appreciated from anyone

  • Need help with ePrinting from iPhone 5

    I have HPPhotosmart 7500 . And was printing fine from my iPhone 5 in the past. I did the ISO 8 update and now I can't EPrint.
    I reset my internet connection., reset the wifi on phone, deleted the hp printing app and restarted that as well. I even turned my phone off and back on. Nothing is helping.
    My printer is on. Not asleep . I have a wifi connection on the printer as well as my phone.
    If I to the hp printing app , my phone finds the 7520 printer and the small dot beside it will light green. As soon as I go to click on something to print my phone says " AirPrint not found"
    I then go back to the hp printing app , to find that the printer green light is turned off and printer name / printer won't stay on. And Yes , there is wifi connection. It's almost as if ISO 8 , hp printing app , and whatever this "AirPrint " is , isn't connecting or firing together.
    All was well until I did the update.
    What else do I do when I reset everything ???? Totally lost and frustrated with iPhone at this point. I spent 2 days consuming my time to try to figure this out. I'm lost . And beginning to join the hate bandwagon for Apple

  • Need help with backup for iphone 4

    hey all,
    i just upgraded to IOS 5.1.1, and i was pretty mad to find out all my contacts were wiped out after i did this. so i plugged it in my computer, went into iTunes, and tried to restore from backup...well, that would have worked out fine, except it keeps restoring to an old back up from April 17...no matter what i do! i'm trying to use a backup from May 20.
    So here's what i'm doing, if anyone can give me insight, by all means!
    Restore from backup > iphone name: (here on the drop down list, i see my phone name and various dates including april 17, 2012, and may 20, 2012, which is the date of back up i am trying to use. below the drop down menu, it reads "Last Backed Up: 4/17/2012". but if there are more recent dates listed in the dropdown, doesn't it mean the last back up was whatever date listed in the dropdown??
    at any rate, i choose the may 20 back up, and i get a pop up window that says "A more recent backup from 4/17/12 is available for the iphone..." and gives me the option of "use newer backup" or "use older backup". well even if i click the newer backup, it only uses the 4/17/12 backup, not may 20 one. if i click older backup, it gives me a backup from a LONG time ago.
    so does this mean i don't actually have a backup from may 20?? i see that the file from 5/20/12 is there when i go to my mobilesync > backup folder on my computer...so i dont get what the problem is. i even tried deleting the 4/17/12 folder from there, and went back into itunes...no luck.
    i dont think the upgrade in IOS shoudl be affecting this? afterall both of the backups i listed were both of the old IOS...
    any help? thanks a bunch!! i would really appreciate it.

    You do know that contacts are NOT part of the iTunes backup, right?  The only part of contacts that get backed up is the information needed to maintain your favorites and recent call log.
    Contacts are meant to live permanently on your computer (Outlook, Address Book) or a cloud-service (Google, iCloud) for safekeeping and archival.
    Sounds like you might not have been using your phone as recommended and that your contacts are gone.  That's unfortunate.  Now might be a good time to review the User Guide to refamiliarize yourself with the way you should be using your phone to minimize data loss in the future.

    i have upgraded my phone to an iphone 5 and went to sync it and it says i need a new version of itunes and so i went to do that and it needs OS X 10.8 and so i go to update my macbook and that says i have no updates available but my macbook is only 10.5.8 so i rang apple and they said my macbook is too old, its only 5 years old im not happy with just giving up there surly there must be something i can do, u dont just chuck away a macbook after 5 years, please can someone help me?

  • Help with iCal on iPhone

    When I sync my iCal strange things are now happening. The iCal as it appears on my Mac Book Pro is as I want it (all info is up to date and correct). When I sync my phone using iTunes (actually pluged into the lap top) the information on my iCal on my iPhone gets very messed up: events get doubled, events get added that were never ther (i.e.: an event created for a week from now, might show up on three different days at random times), events that were once on my iCal that I have since deleted show up.
    I would like to replace all information that is in my iCal on my iPhone with all the information that is on my iCal on my Mac. When I choose the advanced option it attemps to do the revers.

    You'll find it's the easiest solution.
    I tried resetting many times but it never worked. Finally, I read Phillip's tip and it worked.

    What you did: You circumvented the iCloud and sync manually with your computer. Easy, peasy.

  • Help with contacts between iphone and address book

    I am learning my way through the syncing activities and will say, as some other have, that it is a bit more complicated than I had hoped. I've had a mac for over 20 years and used the older mac.com, which I would sync with my computer. I did not renew it when I found I wasn't using it for the cost.
    I recently got my first iphone and had the contacts moved from my old cell phone by AT&T when I bought it.
    I have a lot of contacts in my imac's address book and I do not want to move all of them to my iphone. Some are just historical in case I want to email that person. For my iphone, I just want the contacts I use most often.
    So, in address book, I made a new group and named it iphone contacts. In this I have about 20 cnotacts with email addresses.
    On my iphone, I have many of these same people listed, but just their phone numbers as I did not send emails from my previous wireless phone.
    So my questions are:
    is there any way to get the two to combine via syncing? I want to keep the phone numbers in the iphone contacts and combine them with the email addresses that are in my address book on the imac. I would like to avoid having to open them both and do a lengthy copy and paste event But unless there is some way to tell the lists to combine with each other, on the iphone and in the group list I made in address book that I name iphone contacts, than that is what I'll do. But I thought it was worth a query here to see what options I might have.

    Bump, I did not get any replies to my query if there was a way to combine my iphone numbers in my cell phone contacts with email addresses in a group list in my imac's address book via syncing, so I am wondering if anyone knows if there is an app that might help me.

    I am currently running 2 iMacs on Mountain Lion, one iMac Mavericks, iPad Air, 2 iPad minis, iPad 2 , 4 iPhones, Apple TV and an Xbox One in my home. I also have a time capsule and an airport Express and an Ethernet switch.
    We recently had an internet switch to LTE from WBBI. Our internet worked great on the WBBI but since switching to LTE, it has been a nightmare for ALL devices. The internet connection is continually disconnecting. I have tried using the Time Capsule as a bridge, taking the Time Capsule and Airport Express out of the equation all together, rebooting, rerouting, you name it and no success.
    My internet service provider put a trace on my line and found it was working normally. No one else in my area seems to have any problems but they are running pcs.  This is the only internet available where I live. When using our personal hotspots, everything works like a dream but since we are running a business, a 10Gb data cap per month just won't cut it should we choose to go strictly to hotspots for internet. Lol!
    The current router is a Huawei For LTE. Devices wired in and on the wifi network are affected the same. The Internet technicians switched out some equipment concerned that there may be a hardware problem and their PC laptop worked perfectly. I am beginning to believe it an apple issue. I have been fighting this for 2 months and cannot find a solution.
    Help?

    Does the Xbox work?  It is not Apple equipment.  That is to say, remove ALL other equipment from the "Huawei For LTE" and JUST attach the Xbox.  Does that work flawlessly?  If it also fails, it is not Apple equipment, and you need to hound your ISP to get this fixed.  Have them prove it work using equipment they bring, and then when they say, yea, it work, have them try your Macs.
    If the Xbox works, then disconnect everything (including your switch).  Now using an Ethernet cable connect 1 Mac.  Can you get that to work?  If no, try the other Mac.  If not to both Macs, then your ISP is rather hostile to Mac   Actually, check your System Preferences -> Network Settings.  Assuming you have the original "Automatic" settings, that should be as standard as it comes.  You might try adding System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> TCP/IP -> DHCP Client ID -> aSimpleUniqueName (long shot to see if it makes the LTE provided router happy).

  • Help with Internet connection (WRT54G)

    Hopefully someone has some helpful advice to my question.
    I'm not too sure where my problem is.  I think it's in the modem, but could be the router (less likely as explained).
    I recently set up to open a few ports (I dont remember the exact #s) through port forwarding for Warcraft III.  To do so, you need to set up a custom IP for your connection through 192.168.1.1xx.  I did all this and was happy to see that I could now host online games for Warcraft III.  Fast forward to a week ago (I probably turned my desktop on about 3 times between the first time of opening ports and from successful uses until now) and I am unable to connect to any sort of Internet, [b]on my desktop only[/b].  My 3 laptops I have work just fine, but my desktop will not connect.  I'm not a computer dummy (but no computer expert either, I know my stuff) and have tried everything I could think of between setting up static IPs (192.168.1.99 is a static IP I do believe?) to obtaining IP addresses automatically to turning off the router and modem, etc. and nothing.  I am unable to even get to 192.168.1.1 to try and change my past changes and see if that would work.  Because of that, I'm at a loss.
    Hopefully someone here will be able to help me.  I can still access everything on my desktop, there's just simply no internet connection.

    there seems to be consistant issues with Linksys routers according to all the posts ive been reading for the past month while i try to fix my on and off again internet connection.  its becomming very annoying.  i have asked my cable company to replace my modem, which they did and that didn't even help.  last year i bought a new linksys router thinking it would solve my problem back then.  it did for a while, then my lap top wouldn't connect any, so i sent it into have it checked and it came back with no problems.  soooooooooo apparently, while i am connected to my neighbors open connection from his BELKIN ROUTER and even though the signal is very weak............amazingly enough!! i am still online while typing this.......funny eh?? WELL........it seems to me......that i guess i wont be buying linksys anything anymore.  Especially after spending hours on the help line (INDIA) trying to reset channels and reset the router box itself.  i give up.......i  have 2 pieces of crap routers for sale cheap......any takers?  dont waste your time.

    Hi, Have just installed a NetgearDG834G to my imac G5 with success as far as the connection was concerned. Safari works a treat and it's nice to have a permanent connection. However when I log onto AOL I cannot get any websites to open no matter how long I wait (password required for AOL).
    AOL were no help. They say that they do not support AOL on a mac (in the UK that is). I am stuck on a 12 month contract after running a windows PC with AOL before buying the mac. Previously I was using a USB modem.
    Being a novice with mac OS and only had the G5 for a month it is probably something I am doing wrong! Can anyone offer any guidance/advice?
    Although I can use safari to browse, when I try to use the login from my bank's website nothing happens, just a blank screen.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    After much of checking this, checking that and searching through manuals ect an article suggested that I change the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit!!) in the router settings. AOL(UK) have a maximum MTU rate of 1400. The router/modem was set at 1458 as default. I went into the router setup and found the MTU in LAN settings and changed it to 1400.
    Apparently changing the MTU setting can help improve performance with an ISP or other internet services. For example Yahoo Mail, MSN and in particular AOL(UK). However it is advised to proceed with caution in every case!!!
    Connection is a lot better now, although not as good as I expected (maybe I'm just expecting to much from a broadband connection).
    Rod - If your reading this I also enabled pop-ups (Java was already checked) Perhaps this helped as well. No doubt there will be something else to frustrate in the near future. Thanks again to those who replied and I hope this thread may help someone else with a similar problem. These forums really are a great help.

  • Help with internet issues.

    It seems every night for a couple of hours our internet drops to nearly unusable levels. See our speedtest here[1] we pay for *up to 18Mbps and this is really getting out of hand. On top of that after our recent move I specifically asked not to be upgraded to TV package or as they call it U-450 I have all the chat logs they emailed me from that conversation and the price will go up after 3 months even though I was told a certain pricing point for 1 year. Here[2] is a snippet from the chat showing the price told for a year and no to the U-450. Any help would be really appreciated.Also this[3] is my normal internet speed which still isn't great. I was already told I would not be put on U-450 which was a lie. And I've never once gotten my *up to 18mbps speed. Now I already looked at comcast and crazily enough I can get the same channels (I don't want) and *up to 75 Mbps for internet at the same price.

    Whilst it may not be your fault I am afraid it appears that your post is on a forum which is not the best for your OS. It will save the time of the unpaid volunteers here, and may resolve your issue faster, if you could examine the list below and see if there is a more appropriate forum to which you could direct your question.
