Help with iPhone 4 back up/syncing with a different computer

I have an iPhone 4, however the laptop that I used for my iTunes and syncing my iPhone etc was stolen a few weeks ago.
My problem is that I want to wipe my iPhone because my memory is being taken up by deleted apps that I do not know how to get rid of. I will happily wipe my iPhone to sort this problem but I want to keep all my pictures/music etc. Is it possible to back up my photos/music onto a different computer without everything syncing and being replaced with the files that are on this computer?
Thanks

I know this is tough but you may have to Restore as New...
As to Losing your Photos... the iPhone is not a Storage Device...
If you Regularly Sync your iPhone... your Photos, Contacts, Etc.. will be on your computer...
So after a  Restore as New they can be Re-synced to the phone...
You are probably aware of all this and it doesn’t help your particular situation...
But... if you don’t have a Backup you can use I don’t know what else to suggest...
maybe someone else has a better suggestion...

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Can i activiate my new iphone4s with a different computer that i activated my first iphone with as long as i'm using my itunes account?

can i activiate my new iphone4s with a different computer that i activated my first iphone with as long as i'm using my itunes account?

I sync my iPhone with my MacBook Pro.
I installed the 3.1.2 firmware update today with a PC laptop running Vista that I haven't synced my iPhone with. I made sure the Windows laptop was running the current iTunes version, and before connecting my iPhone, I disabled automatic syncing when any iPod or iPhone is connected which is done via iTunes preferences under the Devices tab.
I took a risk and didn't create a backup for my iPhone when prompted. The firmware update followed by installing the AT&T carrier update was done without a hitch.
This is risky without having a backup (which I could have done beforehand) and without having any of my iTunes content available on the PC if there was a problem installing the update.
Do the same at your own risk. The worst would be not having any iTunes content to transfer back to your iPhone in the event you needed to restore your iPhone with iTunes on a different computer but if you allow iTunes to create a backup for your iPhone in advance, at least you could restore your iPhone from your newly created iPhone backup in the event of a problem.

  • HT1535 I own an iPhone4, an iPod 3rd generation and an iPad 2. I use the same iTunes library but unfortunately synced iPad with a different computer before syncing to my own. Do I risk losing the films/apps I've downloaded onto my iPad if I sync with my i

I don't want to sync what is on my iPod to my iPad. (I have a 32gb iPod but only 16gb on iPad. The iPod I use mostly for music.) I can't seem to add the films I have downloaded onto iPad to iTunes. If I could do that, I could erase them from iPad to create more storage.
    This is intensely confusing, sorry.

    Question.....

    Answer.....
Yes you will lose the films that you downloaded to the iPad when you sync with your own iTunes unless you transfer the purchases into your own iTunes library. Were these movies that you purchased? If so, you might be able to download them again for free. Do you have multiple computers that you sync from or is this someone else's purchased content?
You can select whatever you want to sync to all of your devices in iTunes, you do not have to sync the same content to all device.

  • I forgot my passcode on my iPad and it was synced to a different computer that I no longer have. What can I do about this?

I have forgotten my passcode on my iPad. It was synced to a different computer that I no longer have. What can I do about this and if it at all possible without losing everything that was on it. Thanks for the help.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

You may have to do this several times.
Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • I need to transfer my music form my IPod Touch which is synced with ITunes to my IPhone 5 which is synced on the same computer

I had limited hard drive space on my old PC so I synced it to my IPod Touch. I have since bought a new computer and an IPhone 5. I was able to transfer the music back from the IPod Touch to the ITunes library on the new computer where the IPhone 5 is also synced, but I cannot transfer the music. When I open the IPhone in ITunes and ask it to syn the music, ITunes wants to delete all my contacts and notes. Is there a way to import my IPhone 5 contents into the IPod ITunes library and then syn my IPhone with that library which would also have my music?

    Morning @mb,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

iTunes cannot transfer this media back to a computer. Make sure to back up your iTunes Library, or you can use iTunes Match2.

  • Cannot drag/drop music from iTunes onto iPhone (synced with a different computer)

I have a library of music already on my iPhone that was synced with another computer. I am working on a different computer and bought some music that I thought I could just drag and drop into my iphone from iTunes. I have read that you need to check manually manage music but when I do that it says it will erase everything on my phone. I don't want to do that because I have music on my phone that isn't in the library I'm using. Is there anything else I can do?

you iphone does not work like a regular ipod, where you can drag and drop music, you must sync it with itunes. plug it into your computer, click on the icon that is labeled iphone. when you do this there is a section on the top that says music. click on that, then you can select playlists and artists, etc. then click apply. it should work then

  • IPhone 4 back up syncing error

    Dear users
I downloaded iTunes latest version . I also downloaded OS 5 from when the PC prompted me to update iPhone software . Somehow OS5 hasn't been updated on my iPhone 5 .
Whilst syncing , my iPhone 4 gives a backup error -43 . Please advice

Everything on your iphone should be on your computer as all data is not includded in the iphone backup.
You should always maintain a backup copy of your computer as well.
All pics taken with the iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as with any digital camera.
Contacts and calendars ahould be synecd to your computer.
Any music purchased on teh iphone should be transferred to your computer.
All of these things along with all other content from your computer should be backed up to an external source as always.

  • Syncing with a different computer after the death of the first?

*How do I sync my ipod with another computer?*
I've searched the internet and they're all about saving the songs from your ipod and putting them on another computer, but I don't care about that much.
All of my songs were backed up, so syncing with this library is almost the same as my other one.
Anyway, so my other compuyter died and now when I click sync on this coimputer, my ipod does the whole "Do not disconnect" thing, but the music on it stays the same.
Oh, and my ipod went through the wash, but that was like a month ago, and it synced fien with my other computer after it had dried.
Any help would be like really appreciated as this is frustrating me to pieces.
    Thanks,
    Amanda.

    Whoa, sorry.
