Help with iTunes after having to reinstall Windows

I saved my purchased items to Cd's, and backed up the iTunes library to an external hard drive, but here's my problem....
AFter loading a fresh copy iTunes,my playlists are there, but can't play because the file can't be located. In the library, every item is listed 3 times, with one file existing in name only (the one that's linked to my playlists).
Hindsight being 20/20, I realize now that I should have followed certain protocol to back up the files.
I have ALL the files on two different iPods. One a fifth generation video, and one just beyond that (6th?).
I have tried deleting and restoring the iTunes program but each time with the same results.
I am familiar with a program called "iGadget" but cannot get either pod to the point of having the music recognized. Oddly enough, iGadget "sees" the contacts and calendar, but no music files will list.
I'm running Windows XP Media center, and also have a new MacBook Air (first mac). I had instructions on how to copy the music over to the Mac, but had the same problem I had with iGadget.
I also have a 2nd "authorized" PC running Windows XP that has an in-tact iTunes library, but it hasn't any updates since August '07. It's not my primary computer, but if it's my only option in not having to re-load 4,000 plus files (owned, not purchased from iTunes).
If I had had any warning from Dell about the need to re-install windows (on a 6 month old -grrrrrr - PC) I would have updated the iPods to the same version of iTunes as I was running on the PC (only had time to update iPhone) and found through research that there were now certain steps to take in iTunes.
Now that I have mucked it all up, what can I do?

    I have a problem. I was trying to install windows 7 on my MBP, i followed all of the instructions. When i was trying to install the cd it was asking me in what partition that i wanted to install the drivers Partition 0, 1, 2, 3 etc. I had to create a new one and it asked me and gave me and option that it will need to erase mac(journaled) and it gave me another option to create a new volumen, the one that i erased was mac(journaled) i don't know if i was supposed to or not. Now when i click the BOOTCAMP to start the windows set up this is the message that pops up " The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows. "
    I tried everything and it is till doing the same thing i don't know what to do !! if somebody can help me i will very much appreciated.
    Another thing i did not mention. The message started showing up after i click the option erase and mac(journaled) and create a new one and after i installed mac os x 10.5.7 in the bootcamp partition.

    Used Boot Camp Assistant only, and not Disk Utility, to create one volume for Windows? you wouldn't want to erase and use mac extended journaled.
    At this point, you will need to initialize your drive and restore from TimeMachine as one HFS+ partition and redo with BCA.

    Hi, product is HP 655 Notebook pc operating system windows 7 however due to my daughters negligence (dont know exactly what, do know she very rarely if ever shut it down properly) the computer would go on but but only to black screen stating after general info at top (PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable) next line (PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM), on last line (No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key). dint have the boot disc only the product key so downloaded windows 7 home premium, put it on disc to start again.  While trying to install Win 7, I get past a couple of screens in (collecting information) then I get stuck at a "Select the driver to be installed." screen. there is nothing in the box to choose just a statement  "No signed device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK.". Im certainly no expert but can and have followed instruction just dont know if i'm missing something, any help in this matter would be very much appreciated and thank you in advance!

  • How do i reinstall CS6 after having to reinstall Windows 7

    I have my serial number, and also have the program files backed up on a DVD. I have tried downloading the trial software, but cannot get the download files to open. The big file needs the extractor and cannot find it. The smaller file which I think is the extractor gives me an error message "The file archive part of Adobe Photoshop CS6 is missing. You need all parts in the same folder in order to extract Adobe Photoshop CS6. Please download all parts." As far as I can tell I have downloaded the two files I need and have them in their own folder in my Downloads folder. Help.

    Yes, I got the two new files from the location you mention. However, they do not want to open and seem to be missing something. However, I discovered that I still have the original software download files and hope that those will work. Wound up having to resolve a couple of other software issues before I can try to load CS6 again.

    Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
    First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
    Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
    When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

    Hello all, I am writing this message in the hope that somebody can help me to solve my issue with my iPod touch fourth generation. It has been unable to sync with iTunes, but shows up in windows as the iPod touch. I also had this problem with my older iPods as well (Ipod nano 4th Gen, iPod touch 2nd gen(Batteries done for that one)) I can sync music with iCloud, but I have a bunch of songs that are not in the store, and I sincerely want to add those, alot.
    I've checked the "iPod appears in Windows but not in iTunes" with the link here: (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363), and followed that process, but to no avail, it does not solve the problem. I've tried to reset the entire ipod by making it enter DFU mode and then rebooting the entire iPod (shows up in iTunes in temporary mode) but once restored, does not appear in iTunes, but still in Windows detected still as a iPod, looks like the iPod and everything. I also have the most uup-to-date iTunes installed (10.5 I believe, just got it today)
    This is extremely frustrating because that is why I purchased the iPod (and for the games and apps, those are great too). The iPod was also purchased three days ago, and the setup still didn't detect it.  I am not mad at anybody here or the Apple company itself, but I have not found any help online with the browsing option (for support of course).
    Please, I would absolutely love the help, i'd be eternally grateful for it.

    Never mind, turns out that by uninstalling the programs "Megakey" and "Megaupload" it had resolved this issue.

    I'm having problems with itunes after updating. I've lost all my playlists,,finally played around with it and got the songs back but some have an exclamation point beside them and can't be located. they are songs i've purchased. I'm not very computer literate so this is a major problem. I have spent hours with this. I just want all my songs to play even though I'm not happy that I have to recreate my playlists. It would be so much easier if I knew and understood how to correct this. Has anyone else had this problem and if so..is there an easy way to correct it?

    I just want to get some help using itunes.  I have downladed music - paid for music, and can't get it into itunes.  When I used th e'support' thing it just wanted to know my Mac serial numbers!!  I don't have a Mac I hace a standard non Mac PC.  So why can't I get help with itunes?  Its taken me half an hour to get into this support thing because every single name I chose was taken!!!!  Its just a nightmare.  I hate it!
    And now it tells me I must 'choose a community' and itunes isn;t listed!  It gets worse!  So I chose any community because this is just a never ending nightmare.  40 minutes ago now I clicked on support for itunes and I ended up here!

    I am in the UK and its 23.43 so I have to give up and go to bed now.  As I said I have had no probes with Amazon downloads.  I did email CD baby for help but they just sent the links that you offered earlier.
    I have tried to burn to CD so I can listen that way but though I go through all the motions I can't add the tracks to the burn list by copying and pasting, and I can't 'drag the tracks here' beacuse the tracks aren't showing, just the whole album folder.  It looks like this:

    To get my Iphone 4 to show up in iTunes, I have to uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it EVERY single time I want to connect my device to iTunes. I've tried just using a wi-fi connection and that won't work. It's very annoying to have to go through all that trouble of uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes every time that I need to connect to my iTunes account. I first got this phone in Germany when I was visiting my uncle who was stationed there, he had got the phone from AT&T here in the U.S. while in Germany connecting to his computer to itunes was no problem, it'd connect without any issues. Then when I came home back to the states, my phone would no longer connect to itunes on my computer unless I unistalled and reinstalled, but my computer does recognize my device when I connect every time just itunes does not and I don't understand why it's doing that. Is there any way to fix this? How can I get my device to show up in itunes without having to reinstall it every time?

    The ipod is not a backup device.  The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  the exception is itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
    Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old comptuer, to your new one.
