Help with iTunes update and accidentally syncing phone to another iTunes account
I'm really hoping someone can help me.
Earlier tonight I updated iTunes on my laptop. I synced my phone and backed it up only to find an hour later when I was going through my messages that all of my contacts were gone. I read up online and apparently this was a common problem with the new update. I've tried the suggestion of going into settings>icloud and turning my contacts on but my numbers are still gone. When I plugged my phone into my computer again to restore the backup, It automatically started to sync again. I clicked cancel straight away but the previous backup changed from earlier on in the evening to the current time. So now I've no backup from earlier, Just from after I realised my contacts were gone.
I also noticed when I was clicking around that my partners email was signed into the itunes account, not my email. I signed him out and signed myself back in but nothing has returned.
Does anybody have a solution for this? I know I can't use a previous backup because it updated the backup to after I noticed the contacts were gone. I also tried restoring my computer to an earlier time from before I backed up iTunes but there's no recent backups of my computer. I also tried signing into iCloud but theres no contacts there either.
I have a feeling all of this was caused because my partners email was signed into iTunes when my phone backed up but I'm curious as to why it would just delete my contacts and nothing else?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

Thanks heapsFirst, authorize your new computer in itunes: Store>Authorize this computer.
Next, make sure that auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected is "NOT CHECKED" in itunes>preferences.
Next, connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC!
Go up to file "Transfer purchases made on this ipod to this computer"
All of your purchased music & apps will then be transferred, music you ripped on your own won't, you'll have to restore that from a backup.
As for your contacts, before you sync make sure you have at least one contact in whatever program your computer uses for that purpose, outlook/address book.
At the prompt for merge or replace, select merge contacts. -
Help with live updating and downgrade
Since upgrading to the latest firmware I lost the ability for my smart playlists to be updated on the fly as before. I want to restore my original firmware if possible since I don't see anything new or better with the newest firmware. Is it possible, and if so how. I see the restore function for the firmware updater but I wasn't sure if that restores the firmware too or just removes files only. TIA
you will need to restore and then update with the updater for the version you want.
Rememeber that doing a restore will erase everything on your iPod -
How to transfer library with play count and top 25 playlist to another itunes library?

I would like to transfer all my music, with the play count and top 25 most played and other playlists to another iTunes library on a Mac. How would I go about doing this?What exactly are you trying to do? You already have another library on the computer and wish to add items from another library? This is not easily done and meeting all the requirements you have posted. While it is possible to transfer play count I think it is one of the things that requires Applescripting knowledge.
If you are just wanting to move a library from one place to another that is possible, though still tricky because you start encountering user permissions. -

Windows 8.1 need help with Windows Updates and Start menu Or fix my old Windows Xp system
My beloved windows Xp has gave up after many years of working well. It stopped working a few days ago after a lightening strike.
I got this Windows 8.1 computer a few month ago but it seems to have a problem. I stopped using it after could not get start menu to work and when back to my Windows XP system.
First problem is the start menu is not there. I tried installing something and it says it will take control or something and screen goes black. I clicked canceled quickly in order not to get a virus.
Where is the start menu?
Second problem, Windows updates does not want to update because it needs Windows 8.1 update. This computer is already Windows 8.1. There I canceled it since it was mostly a virus. Now updates are not working.
If those can not be fixed, how can i fix my Windows Xp to get it back. It does not turn on, I press button and nothing happens. Is this something easy to fix?Another user discovers that Windows 8.1 is not at all of what it should be.
There is no Start Menu in Windows 8 or 8.1. However, you can restore your desktop start menu with a very good freeware application:

Windows Update comes with Windows 8.1. There is nothing special you have to do.
It kind of sounds like you've been a bit too quick to download and run whatever you find on the Internet. You should always research any software you're considering downloading/installing ahead of time. Google it. See what others say
about it. Ask on forums. In order to use Windows effectively and safely you need to expand your knowledge and become a more sophisticated user.
If you think your new system has become infected, you might want to consider Refreshing or Resetting it to a clean state, or at least visiting one of the anti-malware forums and getting some advice on cleaning it up. But beware, a lot
of "blind leading the blind" happens on forums. Always try to read between the lines, and question what people say.
You could consider leaving XP behind. Its time has come and gone, and pretty much any newer version of Windows can actually give you better service than XP - once you get it tuned up.
It's possible to make Windows 8.1 more functional than XP and about as functional as Windows 7, but it takes a fair bit of effort in reconfiguration and installation of some well-known 3rd party applications that are good (which, unfortunately, most
on the internet are not).

My OS is windows 8.1. Today when going onto itunes it asked me to update to 11.something so I dd. Now I can't access itunes at all. Keep getting an error message. error 127. I've tried repairing. Uninstalling and re installing. Can't seem to contact anyone at apple to get support - just keep going around and arond on their contact page.
Log in to the Developer forum. You will find instructions on how to install the lastest beta. Your problem is the beta you have installed has expired. All of them did on October 5; you will find hundreds of threads discussing this. If you have a beta it is assumed that you will continue as a beta tester, so a simple update using iTunes will not work.
If you no longer want to be a beta tester install the GM 7.0.2 by restoring from iTunes using DFU mode. -
I use outlook 2007to manage both contacts and calendar. I have a new iPhone 5. Is the bestr way to update iCloud to do manual iTune updates and then sync to the iCloud.
You want to avoid syncing calendars and contacts with both iCloud and iTunes. Doing so will result in the creation of duplicates. If you want to sync your iPhone calendar and contacts with iCloud, consider also syncing your computer with iCloud (requires Vista SP2 or higher and Outlook 2007 or higher). iCloud will then keep the calendar and contacts on your phone in sync with Outlook without using iTunes. (You would still, of course, continue to sync with iTunes for your other iTuens media.)

All media should be in the iTunes library on your computer.
Syncing is ONE way from computer to iPhone.
If the media was on your device, but not in your computer, then it's likely gone.
Do you have a backup of your media somewhere else? Like an external drive? -
Itunes updated and now it won't work. I unstalled it and reinstalled the older version and reinstalled a older version and it still won't open. Says the itunes

In using it, I found out other's have had this issue and it likely means you have a 3G iPad? If you do, go into settings and turn off cellular data, then try to update again and you should be OK........ -
