Help with Jdeveloper

Hi all,
I'm very new to Jedeveloper. I'm serching someone who knows very well Jdeveloper.
My problem is that I can't start with this tool. I need to do an application that uses JSP, JavaBeans, but I don't know how can I start. I've see tutorial, demo on line and the other help on the site, but in my opinion, they are not very usefull.
Thank you very much for the attention.
Caterina

These users have a point. It is a tough learning curve with just the tutorials that tell you which radio button to press with little discussion or why and of the alternatives. I can also see why you do it since you are showing the features, not teaching Java development. Maybe more references to books would help.
My recent experience is with some JSF samples / tutorials. I have a DB with some tables and I want some web pages to query and edit them - pretty basic stuff. I ran 2 tutorials one that did the model as EJB (http://jroller.com/page/cschalk/Weblog?catname=%2FJSF) and another that did the model as ADF BC (from the Oracle site).
Messing around with the View and Controller with the visual tools was great by the way, and obviously is what JDeveloper is trying to do best. This part seemed pretty independent of the model and worked fine. Figuring out why stuff doesn't work is the hard part and usually requires breaking the abstraction and knowing how it works and what it is trying to do.
I didn't really know the difference between the two models and I only tried the second one because the first one didn't work at first - I got "Access Denied" when I run the JSP that used the beans. The second one worked fine.
I messed around with the EJBs some more and it looks like I got the data binding to work better. One failure I noticed when I made a JSF/JSP page and added a 'Editable' table is the following. Note: the read-only table worked fine.
500 Internal Server Error

  • Help with JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 w/ TopLink and renaming datasources

    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 w/ TopLink 10.1.3.1.1
    I am also deploying to a 10.1.2 OC4J with a 10.2.0 Database
    We have a naming convention for our datasources "Lone<APP_NAME>DS". When I create a TopLink map using a database connection within JDeveloper 10.1.3.2 the datasource is named, "<DB_CONNECTION_NAME>CoreDS" by default.
    When I attempt to rename the datasource, as soon as I run/debug the application, the datasource name is reset to the default.
    I can manually create a 2nd datasource with my desired name, which works fine.
    How can I fix this? Is there a location where the default name pattern for the datasources created by TopLink?

    This is really strange - the icons to start/stop the servers are defined as options in the tools->external tools menu option. Try going in there and verifying that they are still defined.
    I never heard of this type of problem before - but you might want to post this question on the WebCenter forum to see if someone ran into this in the past.

  • JMS Help With JDeveloper

    Hi,
    I have set up a topic Queue and QueueConnectionFactory in the jms.xml file that is present under the oc4j-config directory, but they fail to show up in the JNDI tree when I run under JDeveloper (9.052). As a result I cannot actually use the MDBs in my application nor can I send messages to the Queue.
    But it works to some degree because without those entries mapping the destination in the orion-ejb-jar.xml file for the MDBs, it will not deploy.
    So does anyone know how to fix this? Or is this like most Oracle problems (i.e. ORACLE isn't very good at J2EE)? Help!

    I did manage to find out how to setup the application-client.xml and orion-application-client.xml files, but those entries still do not show up in the JNDI tree.
    And, as usual, I post here as a last ditch attempt and I doubt I will get any responses. Grrr...

  • PVCS Version Manager Interface to Jdeveloper -- need help with install

    Several of our developers are using Jdeveloper and we need to know how to install the PVCS Version Manager interface to JDeveloper.
    I have already contacted Merant, the vendor for PVCS Version Manager and they could only confirm that the interface existed but was supported by Oracle.
    I have not been able to find any documentation on installing this interface.
    Can anyone supply directions or point me to someplace to look for them.
    Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
    Ward

    Hi all,
    Ward - Brian is absolutely right. As I said in my first posting on this topic (above), we have
    not yet developed an extension for JDeveloper to enable users to work with PVCS Version
    Manager, which I believe is a specific product, rather than an interface.
    This is why I'd greatly appreciate it if you could possibly provide more details of this Interface
    and indeed what Oracle support for PVCS with JDeveloper Merant referred to. Please see my
    first posting above for more details.
    Brian - I'm sorry you do not agree with our approach of using the open published SCM Framework
    to build your own extensions for using JDeveloper with other source code control tools than those
    we support.
    In an ideal world, we would have been able to offer support for every source code control tool on
    the market with our first release of 9i JDeveloper. We were very keen to be able to achieve this and
    we still plan and are currently looking into supporting more tools going forward and as many tools as
    possible in the long term.
    Unfortunately, we only have limited time available for each release and based on the feedback we
    received, after our committment to support Oracle9i SCM, CVS and ClearCase were the most requested.
    Therefore, we tried to reach a compromise to enable users to provide their own support for a specific
    tool should they wish, if they did not use any of those tools supported. Indeed, our research suggests
    that the market for source code control tools is quite fragmented and that customers use a wide range
    ot tools. So, we decided to publish our own SCM Framework, the same one we used for the SCM, CVS
    and ClearCase support, in order to help users build their own extensions in a similar way to ours.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,

  • HELP: include another page in with JDeveloper and ADF

    Hi all,
    I am trying to make a layout page with JDeveloper and ADF. But I just can't make things work. I have the pre-coded header and footer html pages and want to include them in a jspx somehow. I tried panelPage too, but the rendering style is away from our pre-coded header and footer.
    1. Use jsp:include.
    header works fine but footer is rendered before the page content, even if the footer is placed after the page content. Is there a way to customize the position?
    <f:facet name="footerFacet">
    <f:subview id="footerView"
    binding="#{backing_welcomePage.footerView}">
    <jsp:include page="/footer.jspf"/>
    </f:subview>
    </f:facet>
    2. Use frameBorderLayout.
    I followed the doc and use the document tag. But the frame page is rendered but none of included pages are rendered. So I got a blank page.
    <!-- frame page -->
    <f:view>
    <afh:html>
    <afh:head title="my frame page">
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
    content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"/>
    </afh:head>
    <afh:body>
    <afh:frameBorderLayout height="100%" width="100%">
    <f:facet name="center">
    <afh:frame source="topPage.jspx" name="topPage3"/>
    </f:facet>
    <f:facet name="top">
    <afh:frame source="topPage.jspx" height="200" name="topPage2"/>
    </f:facet>
    <f:facet name="bottom">
    <afh:frame source="topPage.jspx" height="200" name="topPage1"/>
    </f:facet>
    </afh:frameBorderLayout>
    </afh:body>
    </afh:html>
    </f:view>
    <!-- top page -->
    <f:view>
    <af:document title="FrameBorderLayout Demo">
    <af:form>
    <af:panelGroup layout="vertical">
    <f:facet name="separator">

    </f:facet>
    <af:outputFormatted styleUsage="instruction" value="&lt;b>A frameBorderLayout&lt;/b>"/>
    </af:panelGroup>
    </af:form>
    </af:document>
    </f:view>

    for #1 have you tried throwing a verbatim tag around your includes like:
    <f:verbatim>
    <jsp:directive.include file="/includes/footer.jsp"/>
    </f:verbatim>
    it's how we got around intermixing html and jsf

  • Problem with tutorial; "Build a Web Application with JDeveloper 11g Using "

    I've got a rather new installation of Vista Business x64 on my developer rig, and last week I installed the new JDeveloper 11g version. The installation was all-inclusive, no customization on my end.
    In addition I've got a test installation of an Oracle DB 11gR1 on an available server here.
    To familiarize myself with the new JDeveloper I decided to spend some time with the JDeveloper 11g tutorials found here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/index.html.
    I've started twice on the second tutorial, "Build a Web Application with JDeveloper 11g Using EJB, JPA, and JavaServer Faces", and find myself repeatedly stuck at step 19 in section "Creating the Data Model and Testing it".
    It seems impossible to deploy the application to the default application server. The server starts fine on its own, I can access it via the admin console on port 7001 and it looks good. However, when I try to run the HRFacadeBean funny things are happening, symptomized by the following error messages seen in the IDE log-area:
    The "Messages" pane displays:

    I'm not that familiar with these things but it seems to me that there is an issue with port numbers here. The application seems to expect a app.server service at port 7101, but does'nt find one.
    Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated?

    Jupp,
    It fails in a similar way.
    What I did was; create a simle 'Hello World' html file, saving it with the jsp extension. In Jdev11g i made a new application and an emtpy project, then loaded the jsp file and made it the default run-target. This compiles nicely.
    When running the project it first attempts to start the WebLogicServer (WLS). After a few minutes it is started as seen in the "Running: DefaultServer" pane:

    In the "Messages" pane, however, things are not looking so good:

    But, of course, the server is actually running as I can access it via its Admin Console.
    So, I try to run the project again, and this time the following is shown in the "Messages" pane:
    Compiling...
    Context: MakeProjectAndDependenciesCommand application=TestAppJsp.jws project=TestProjJsp.jpr

    The "Running: DefaultServer" now comes up with:
    C:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\base_domain\bin\startWebLogic.cmd
    [waiting for the server to complete its initialization...]
    [Server Instance DefaultServer is shutting down.  All applications currently running will be terminated and undeployed.]
    Process exited.
    The WLS is still running though as I can still access its adm console.
    To me it seems that it is attempting to start a separate instance of the WLS for each run attempt, but then I could be wrong.....:(
    Later I'll try to change the default WLS port from 7001 to 7101 as suggested in another port here.
    I must admit that I'm a bit surprised that the JDev11g doesn't work fine at this very simple level when performing a default install.

  • How to use BC4J with JDeveloper 9i in a Team

    Hello
    I'm not sure if I'm to stupid, but to say the truth I didn't found the clue how to share a BC4J Application between several develeopers. Maybe someone can give me a hint.
    That's my situation:
    Our team is going to develop a web application using BC4J and BC4J-JSP, nothing special I think.
    But my problem is, that BC4J and especially the wizards refer to a lot of different files. Even simple changes often result in multiple files being changed in different parts of the project.
    Creating a view link between view objects in two packages for example changes the view objects in both packages. Also the project (.jpr) file or several "BC4J.xcfg" files are changed very often.
    So it is not easy to find parts of code from which I can say they are owned by one developer and others which are owned by another. Most often, if you have to merge the work of different developers, you have to edit the BC4J-XML-Files using an external editor. Or did someone find a better way? Please tell me!
    So, what is the best way to share code between developers?
    Should I partition the application by packages?
    - advantage:
    it allows a fine partitioning
    - disadvantages:
    it has the great danger that BC4J makes changes in other packages which will be overseen when merging.
    Should I create a projects for each developer and distribute code between the projects using libraries?
    - advantage: no unseen changes will happen, as the libraries are readonly.
    - disadvantages: no view links between view objects in different projects (Libraries) are possible! Also a lot of "load errors" can occure when updating a library, which have to be manually corrected in the dependent projects.
    Are source code management systems a real help in this problem or do they just "manage" the problem? I already tried SCM and PVCS but was not very happy with the way of working. As JDeveloper is not "really easy" to use with theese tools.
    So I would like to get any hints how other developers are dealing with this problem. Are you using BC4J with JDeveloper 9i in a team? Please tell me how do it and how you have partitioned your application.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    I'm not sure whether my answer is good enough for you, but it might help.
    First of all, you have to use JDev 9.0.3, because 9.0.2 has big problems with associations/view links between objects in different projects.
    Creating a view link between view objects in two packages for example changes the view objects in both packages. Also the project (.jpr) file or several "BC4J.xcfg" files are changed very often.This is not completely true in 9.0.3, as you may choose not to create an accessor in the imported object (and usually you don't need it neither!). As for bc4j.xcfg, there is a trick: define a "standard" database connection name to use all over your project! This will prevent modifying these files all the time!
    Should I create a projects for each developer and distribute code between the projects using libraries?
    - advantage: no unseen changes will happen, as the libraries are readonly.
    - disadvantages: no view links between view objects in different projects (Libraries) are possible! Also a lot of "load errors" can occure when updating a library, which have to be manually corrected in the dependent projects.I would say, projects for each application component, which by chance will be managed by a single developer at a time.
    As for the disadvantages, in 9.0.3 you are able to properly create associations and links using read-only objects. Hopefully, the release version will solve some generation inconsistencies...
    Concerning the errors that occur when modifying a library, this might be balanced by the relative independence of the components... If you are able to develop following the dependency tree, you will not meet the problem very often.
    Are source code management systems a real help in this problem or do they just "manage" the problem? I already tried SCM and PVCS but was not very happy with the way of working. As JDeveloper is not "really easy" to use with theese tools.Indeed, I do not have a SCMS really able to manage merges in the BC4J XML files... We rather try not to arrive there!
    So I would like to get any hints how other developers are dealing with this problem. Are you using BC4J with JDeveloper 9i in a team? Please tell me how do it and how you have partitioned your application.I really hope that my hints will help.

  • Is it possible to use SOA Suite 11g with JDeveloper's integrated WebLogic?

    Is it possible to use SOA Suite 11g with JDeveloper's integrated WebLogic? Or do you have to install an external WebLogic?
    Thanks for help.

    Hi
    By default, NO it is NOT possible to deploy any SOA Applications on Integrated Weblogic Server that comes with JDeveloper. This integrated weblogic server is very light weight basic weblogic server with single domain (only 1 AdminServer) to deploy a standard J2EE, ADF Applications like EJBs, WebApps, WebServices, ADF Apps etc. BUT SOA (having BPEL, BPMs etc ) cannot be deployed.
    There is an option to upgrade this integrated weblogic server and install SOA on top of this. Like download soa installer that matches with your JDeveloper version and install soa on top of this weblogic. BUT I strongly do not recommend this, because you will not be able to upgrade iin future to the latest versions.
    Yes, its always better to install the standalone Weblogic Server that matches with your JDeveloper version. Then install SOA on top of this Weblogic Server. Then create RCU Schemas in any Oracle Database. Run config wizard and create a SOA Domain. Now integrate this in your JDeveloper to deploy any soa applications.
    Make sure that JDeveloper, Weblogic Server, SOA Software, RCU all these versions should match and they should be same.
    Thanks

  • How to start with JDeveloper?

    As a straight A student of Computer Science, I put my hands on database development of an information system project for our CS faculty this summer. JDeveloper is used as the IDE for such project.
    I have learnt Java 2 and something about Oracle database in my courses. Now, after reading the product introduction and a short online course outline in iDeveloper2001, I have a brief idea about it. But since I can not afford much, how to learn more about it? Could you offer me some advices?
    Thanks a lot!

    The online users guide and documentation is the best place to
    start to learn how to use JDeveloper.

  • Web services with Jdeveloper using weblogic as server

    Hi,
    I try to test creating PL/SQL web services by using a connection hosted by weblogic server instead of OC4J. The problem is what I try to publish a package of the database in the second stage when it asks for the connection to use, in the list I don't found the connection I create to weblogic . It presents as choice only connections used the server OC4J.
    I do not Know if it is possible to publish a package as web service by using weblogic server connection, and how to do it.
    can anyone help me please .
    Nawal

    Web services can only be published to BEA if you install Apache SOAP on BEA and use the Apache SOAP option of JDeveloper. The J2EE Web Services implementation framework is specific to Oracle9iAS.
    The PL/SQL Web Services server implementation is based on the J2EE Web Services option and as a result is not really portable to BEA.
    To publish a PL/SQL Web service on BEA with JDeveloper you would have to write the Java wrapper code to invoke the stored procedure using standard JDBC and then publish that Java class as a Web service using Apache SOAP. Then if you had Apache SOAP installed on BEA you would be set.
    Portability of Web services implementations is a big feature coming with JAX-RPC - currently what most vendors have is interoperability between implementations because of things like SOAPBuilders and WS-I. When JAX-RPC becomes part of J2EE 1.4 roughly in June and vendors start putting out implementations on it you should get closer to portability.
    In the meantime, the easiest way to get portability is to use the same SOAP server on both servers - Apache SOAP is a good example.
    Hope this helps.

  • Web services with JDeveloper - serialization error

    Dear all,
    I have an issue with web services created with JDeveloper 10.1.3.2.0.
    Namely, this is what I do:
    1. I've created some TopLink classes from tables; one of this classes is called Task (and it's located in a package called "integration")
    2. I've created another class, called Integration, where I use these TopLink classes; in this new class I have a method called getTasksStatus, which returns an ArrayList containing Task objects
    3. I've created a web service from this class (Integration) by right-clicking on the class name in Applications Navigator and choosing Create J2EE Web Service.
    When I call the method getTasksStatus from the test web service (endpoint),
    I get this error:
    Oct 8, 2007 7:14:30 PM oracle.webservices.service
    SEVERE: serialization error: no serializer is registered for (class integration.Task, null) serialization error: no serializer is registered for (class integration.Task, null)
    When I call a method which returns a primitive type, everything is fine.
    I understand the problem, but I don't know a solution yet. Could you please help ?
    Thank you,
    Best regards,
    Sorin

    One solution to this problem is to make sure that the complex type you are using in yous service interface do implement the JAVA Bean as per the spec (at least Oracle's interpretation of it).
    You need to have getter/setter for all members and you need to have an empty ctor() to create new instances of your objects. In some cases, the design time let you get by, but the runtime fails in the code generation.
    In your case, the 'Task' class may have some issue.
    Hope it helps,

  • J2ee naming services with JDeveloper

    I am trying to use the JNDI services of the j2ee specs with JDeveloper and the Oracle Application server (9iAs). Doing this we have the problem that JDeveloper do not support the java.naming package. We have added the package to JDeveloper but we do not know ik Oracle 9iAs will work with this package added.
    Can someone give me some information about the use of JNDI within JDeveloper and Oracle 9iAs

    Hi,
    For information on how connect MySQl to JDev, look in the Help for 'Working with Non-Oracle Databases' under 'Using Application Development Tools | Database Tools'.
    And for Modeling Database Development with JDeveloper, you can find this tutorial useful :
