Help with Lingo

Question

Hi, I am making a program similar to this:

and http://www.geocities.com/no_finish_ss_project/LingoClass.java (in case you cannot extract files)
When running the program click the "Start" button and then enter a 5 letter word in the textfield and click "submit" as you see, for some reason the submit button needs to be clicked 5 times before the word is displayed, and when it is displayed it ends up at the bottom and it should be at the top line of the grid.
If you haven't played Lingo before it works like this: the computer picks a random 5 letter word (in this case from wordlist.txt (included in the textfile version) and then the user must guess a word, if the word has the same letter in the same place as the random word that word displays as green. This is the problem code i assume
(using double buffering).

And what questions do you have for us?
In all fairness, if it works for you, it works for you. Programming in general is concerned with getting the right answer, not necessarily the most efficient way of doing something. The "catch" is that you'd like to get the right answer sometime before the heat-death of the universe. If you have two ways of solving a problem, and one approach takes 5 minutes, and the other approach takes 5 minutes and 2 seconds, don't worry about it - go with what's easier. It's only when you have one solution takes 5 minutes and another solution takes 60 minutes that efficiency comes into play. My point being, If it does what you want it to do, who cares how it does it?
I bring this up because there are other posts in this forum discussing the benefits of double-buffering. In general, most people don't like it because it's slow and does not provide as many advantages as they'd like. But there are some cases where double-buffering is after all, the easiest way to do that sort of thing (fixed frame-rate animation comes to mind).
