  • Help with Mail Server Setup/DynDNS

I don't have a static IP so I setup an account/registered a domain with DynDNS. The test site is hosted fine via Leopard Server. However, I am trying to setup a mail server to no avail. Configured Mail Server through the assistant and ended up with these settings: domain name - performa460.com hostname - mail.performa460.com POP, IMAP, and SMTP all enabled. Setup a user in workgroup manager and enabled mail. Still Cannot access mail through Mail.app and no users are listed on the Maintenance/Accounts pane. Obviously I'm new to this and need to be pointed in the right direction. Any help is apreciated; thanks!

DynDNS's base service won't work for you if you want to use your own full domain name unless you use their Custom DNS paid service. I'm assuming this is something you've already done. If so, you need to configure both the host name and the MX records for your domain to point to the right places. You'll need to set up DynDNS name servers through whatever domain registrar you use and then configure the CustomDNS service through DynDNS's web interface. Once you can successfully connect using a web browser, then look into your mail settings.
However, depending on what provider you're using for your broadband, you may have the mail ports blocked by your ISP and/or in your cablemodem/router. Be sure to open 25 and 587 and any other ports you intend to use.
Finally, you may find that even if you've configured everything correctly, other providers will refuse your mail as spam (google, yahoo, etc) because your IP address is on a "residential subnet" or because your forward and reverse DNS don't match. That means you'll need a mail reflector to bounce your mail off of with a proper IP. DynDNS has inbound and outbound mailhop services that you can use for an additional fee.
Bottom line is, because spambots inhabit a lot of dynamic IP blocks, you have to jump through a ton of hoops to get it working reliably.

  • Please help with mail server choice and setup

Hello dear arch users, for begining i`ll start with litle intro what i know, and what i dont understand, so it would be easyer to help solve my problem, thanks for reading this.
I've been using arch for some time (few months) but i still dont know very much about it..
I have successfully installed lighttpd+php (fcgi)+mysql+phpmyadmin, ssh and mc allso of cource, serveral times, so i know how to solve little problems
I need everything lightweight because my arch's box is not so fresh as i could want
    p2 350mhz CPU
    192mb of RAM
    8Gb HDD
    10Mbit internet connection
whole project is for personal use only, and it will not even reach 10 user limit (me and some friends are using this..)
Now i`m willing to install mail server with some webmail ( i dont like outlook express thunderbird and other clients, only web acces)
I have googled for tutorials for 2 days now, just looking for best thing for newbie like me, with little knowlage of linux.
SquirrelMail or RoundCube wich one is bether ? I like RoundCube because it has nicer web design, but is it bether that SquirrelMail ?
Postfix and Dovecot are they enough good, or is there anything bether ?
Spamassasin and Graylistening will this work, or i`ll need something stronger?
    Did i miss anything ?
I just want to say thanks for reading this, and helping me out. Thanks!
ps will this be good enough tutorial to follow ? http://www.hypexr.org/linux_mail_server.php

  • Help with OSX server mail setup

Please if anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong, I would be very grateful.  I have a company with an externaly hosted website and an an internally hosted email (OSX server).  I have everything kind of working, but some things don't seem quite right.  I'll explain below:
I have a purchased domain: mycompany.com hosted by godaddy.
I am using Godaddy name servers: ns65.domaincontrol.com and ns66.domaincontrol.com
The external godaddy DNS has an a name entry for my mail server: mail pointing to 123.123.123.123 (which is my companies external static IP address).
There is also a null (@) a name record for my website hosting service (squarespace) pointing to 456.456.456.456
There is a cName record www pointing to the squarespace domain "www.squarespace6.com"  (know this is unusual, but it is how squarespace asks this to be set up and does not work otherwise)
There is an MX record with priority 10 and host name @ pointing to mail.mycompany.com
I have a airport extreme router with the appropriate ports forwarded to the OSX server.
The DNS servers on the router are pointed to the internal IP address of the OSX server
I did not change the domain name on the router (mistake?) it is currently san.rr.com
On the OSX server I have set up host name to be mycompany.comDNS is set up with primary zone being mycompany.com
    Primary Zone entries include
    nameserver = mycompany.com
machine record host name is mycompany.com and the IP address is the internal IP address of the OSX server
another machine record with host name "mail" and IP address is the internal IP address of the OSX server.
Finally, there is a mail exchanger record with mail server "mail.mycompany.com" and priority 10
There are 2 entries autocreated in the Reverse zone
Mail is setup and running on the OSX server providing mail for "mail.mycompany.com"
Users are setup with email address: [email protected] (note: without the mail subdomain - I think this is OK?)
I am using self signed certificate.
In my clients (windows Thunderbird, Mac Mail, iOS mail), the settings are for the incoming mail server host name to be "mail.mycompany.com" and the outgoing also to be "mail.mycompany.com"
I woud have expected this to be imap.mycompany.com and smtp.mycompany.com respectively, but it doesn't work when I input these values and works with the former.  Have I set this up wrong??  imap seems to require SSL on port 993 and SMTP seems to require TLS on port 587.Outlook on PC gives me an error that after googling appears to be a problem with not recognizing a fuly qualified hostname form the SMTP client.  I see the fix, but wanted to know if that meant that my server didn't have a fully qualified host name and whether I should change that rather than just remove that restriction???
The final problem is that my outgoing emails seem to be getting caught up in other people's spam filters too frequently.  What is the main reason for this?  Is it because I have set something up wrong and it brings up flags or is it simply because I am not a huge hosting company, or somethign else althogether?
If you've gotten this far, big thanks!  If you can help me, even more thanks!

Well, actually they are both getting caught up in spam filters and bounced back.  I actually realized that part of the problem is that I have a dynamic IP address, but it doesn't change.  Regardless, on the bounce back it looks like hotmail and other domains are rejecting email from my IP and recognize it as dynamic.  This was a test server that i would by physically taking to my business where there is a static business IP address (Cox).
Sorry for the very long original message, but it seems that most people don't post enough information for the problem to be solved in their original posts and I was hoping to provide as much detail as possible.
The other is the question of "are things set up right?"  It seems strange to me that both my outgoing and incoming servers are "mail.mycompany.com" and not imap.mycompany.com and smtp.mycompany.com and I wonder if this is going to cause me to have problems?
Is it a problem that my email addresses are [email protected] and not [email protected]?
Was I supposed to change the domain name on the router?
Also is it going to be a problem that I am using a self signed certificate?

  • I desperately need help with Mail, specifically sending

For Starters:  I am on OSX 10.9.2 and am trying to use mail 7.2.
    https://discussions.apple.com/post!input.jspa?container=2998&containerType=14&qu estion=I+desperately+need+help+with+Mail%2C+specifically+sending
I cannot send.  I have been at this for hours and hours and hours.  Here are the details.
my mail server however is s1.sistercompany.net
I can receive email just fine.  I can also send mail just find having set this up on my iphone and also in thunderbird (which i hate hate hate hate hate hate hate, which is why I am desperate to set up mail)
The settings in thunderbird are as follows:
    Servername: s1.sistercompany.net
    port: 465
    Authentication method:  normal password
    Connection Security:  SSL/TLS
However, I just can't get this to work in Mail.  When I write an email and hit send I get a popup that says:
Cannot send message using the server s1.sistercompany.net
The certifcate for this server is invalid.
Now, my tech guy says yeah the certifacte is invalid because you are going through sistercompany server, there should be some way to just accept the certifcate anyway (but he has never used mail before).
So I have serached around and come up with this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11706
Which tells me to use the verify certificate dialogue, which I would do except there is no verify certificate dialog.  Any thoughts?

I don't have a problem watching the Lost episode on abc.com, using a stock MacBook with 512MB RAM. I don't know what technology abc.com uses in their viewer, but I have Flip4Mac and the latest version of Flash player installed.

  • I need help with Mavericks Server: an error occurred while configuring your server.  I

I need help with Mavricks Server, I get the following: an error occurred while configuring your server.  I have deleted the Server.app several times along with the associated com.apple and Server folder.  Any more help would be appreciated.

There are usually some log files around, related to the installation.  See if Console.app (Applications > Utilities) shows anything relevant to the error, when you've done a fresh install of Server.app and tried the configuration.

  • Help with mail users and setup 10.6 mail server bound to 10.8 Open Directory

We have a 10.7 Open Directory server which was upgraded from 10.6.  We have had some Open Directory issues since the upgrade.  I am manually creating a 10.8 server as a replacement for the 10.7 server.  All settings for services are running as expected and we are ready to turn over to the new server except for a problem with the ability to receive email.
Setup in both the original and the replacement has the OD server with DNS running with a correct MX record pointing to our 10.6 mail server.
In the replacement OD server the mail users were created as network users, with no userhome, with access to the mail service, and email addresses given.
The mail server was unbound from the original OD server, bound to the replacement OD server without SSL exactly as with the original, and restarted.
Initially the mail service said that mail clients had the wrong name or password.  Opened WGM 10.6 on the MAIL server and checked the OD records.  They showed the mail users not having the checkbox saying they were set up to receive mail selected.  Selected the checkbox to receive mail.
Now the mail client seems to connect to the server correctly but does not show the emails in the system for the users.  It is as though there is no email and the account is brand new.
Unbind the mail server from the replacement OD server, rebind it to the original OD server, and restart.
Mail clients connect and receive the mail in the accounts as expected.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I figured out what the mail server is doing.  It has created new email stores for each of the new users.  If we bind to the original OD it uses the original set of email stores.  If we bind to the replacement OD it uses the new set of email stores.
I have tried to make sure that the userIDs match in each OD but that did not help.
The server is working for each OD.  Does anyone know if I can tell the 10.6 mail server to use the old emails in the mailstore for the new user in the new OD?
If nothing else I can solve the problem by archiving the emails and copying them into the new user when running the new OD.

  • Problems with mail server and clients

I have set up OS X server on my iMac with 2 MacBook Pros as clients. I have set up the server to be a mail server.
    I have two problems.
    1. I can successfully send and receive emails between the server and one MacBook Pro but neither send or receive mail on the other even though the settings are identical. I get the standard dialog box 'cannot connect using Port 25'.
    2. On the MacBook Pro that will send mail I can also send mail out of the LAN but mail sent to me is bounced back to the sender.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am new to OS server my learning curve over the past week has been vertical!!!

You are not alone. I have started a current thread because of the same problem, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1278072&tstart=0.
Another thread ended with the poster claiming to have things working after a clean install, but I have had no such luck with any of my installations so far.
Do you have only one domain on your server, or are you hosting virtual domains also?
    /Lars

  • Server log showing problems with Mail Server

Ok, so I followed the instructions in that PDF about how to make virtual mail users in 10.5.1 since they are broken. So I did it in the WGM and the Postfix stuff as the document said. Now I get all these errors in the server log and I have no idea how to fix the problem or if what I did was even done right. Here is the error log below:

I did what you said and I don't see all those weird messages anymore, but we switched over our MX records today to our mail server in hopes that it would all work and now no one can get their mail. I can log into the mail server no problem via IMAP, but to send messages is not working. And those using POP don't seem to work at all. Even to send messages the Server is rejecting saying that my messages isn't addresed right. Which it is. I can't even send something to myself. I'm trying not to be frustrated with this thing. I'm just not sure what to do since we have a whole bunch of people needing mail and it doesn't seem to be working and I'm not a mail server expert. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Help with MAIL and Address book

    Hello
I am starting a Mac mini server, I have setup Ical and Itunes, but I have no manage to setup Mail.
Can somebody post screen samples of the setup on the MAC mini and on the client ?
What do you do to share an existent address book within users ?
Thanks in advance for your help
    Best
    Cyril
My mail is : cb dot pub at numericable dot com
my MX (domain) is : mx dot cyrilblanc dot fr

You need to have a stable and correct DNS services configuration. This is a prerequisite for mail.
The following is a result of an incorrect DNS services configuration:
    $ dig +short MX cyrilblanc.fr
    1 mx.cyrilblanc.fr.
    $ dig +short mx.cyrilblanc.fr.
    87.231.239.246
    $ dig +short -x 87.231.239.246
    87-231-239-246.rev.numericable.fr.
    $
Your reverse DNS is 87-231-239-246.rev.numericable.fr. and this translation does not match your forward DNS mx.cyrilblanc.fr. and correct DNS is a common prerequisite for the receiving mail servers; for those services that will receive and process your outgoing messages when your server is sending mail.
Your MX record for the subdomain mx.cyrilblanc.fr is targeting mail servers at 1and1, and that may or may not be your intent. (Given your name, I'd assume you want to have [email protected]+ as your email, which means the MX record that is applicable here is the MX record associated with cyrilblanc.fr domain and not the MX record with the mx.cyrilblanc.fr subdomain.
To configure your reverse DNS, you will need to contact your ISP.
Further, your ISP may or may not allow mail servers. Many ISPs can require a commercial tier of service, and can firewall the mail ports within a non-business service tier. Check with your ISP here.
An "A record" is basic DNS construct; it is a machine name record. Your current DNS record for your mx host is an A record, and not a CNAME ("alias") or other format record, which is good.
Given you want screen shots, you may want to subscribe to the Lynda video library. (I have no experience with those, but there are folks around that have referenced them as a simple approach for configuring your Mac OS X Server box.) I'm not in a position to post screen shots from my servers, and it is exceedingly likely that how I have my mail clients configured will not match your requirements. And I'll end up explaining the differences.
Please also take the time to Google the forums. There are similar discussions. Google specifically for that string I provided earlier, as that's a commonplace response to somebody that's trying to troubleshoot a mail server problem.

  • Help with mail and webmail

    Hello everyone,
I will need your help on some things regarding mail and webmail.
First of all I am not an expert on mac as it is the first time that I'm setting up a server so please be lenient with my mistakes.
    OK let's begin.
    I have a mac mini running 10.6.4 and I have setup 2 domains. www.domain1.com & www.domain2.com
    2 DNS zones.
    1st zone hostname: domain1.com
    Nameservers:
    zone: domain1.com Nameserver Hostname: server.domain1.com
    Mail exchanger: mail.domain1.com Priority: 10
    1 Machine: Machine Name: mail.
    IP Address: my external IP.
    2nd zone hostname: domain2.com
    Nameservers:
    zone: domain2.com Nameserver Hostname: server.domain2.com
    Mail exchanger: mail.domain2.com Priority: 10
    1 Machine: Machine Name: mail.
    IP Address: my external IP.
    Mail Service:
    Domain name: mail
    Host Name: server.domain1.com
    SMTP: ON
    Allow incoming: ON
    IMAP/POP: ON
    Security:
    SMTP IMAP/POP:
    Kerberos: ON
    CRAM-MD5: ON
    APOP: ON
    LOGIN: ON
    SSL: Don't use
    Hosting:
    Enable virtual hosting: ON
    domain1.com
    domain2.com
    I have create 4 users:
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
In Workgroup Manager I have also added a second short name for each user for overlapping, in the mail option the mail server for users in domain1 is the default: sever.domain1.com and for users in domain 2: server.domain2.com
    The problems are:
    1. When I send a mail from my users in hotmail it returns back as: Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender.
2.How can I configure this emails on PCs?
3.I want to create web services for both my domains without the users from domain1 can log in domain2.
When I tried to active 2 separate web services for each domain the user from domain1 had access to domain2.
    For example
In https://www.domain1.com should only login users who belong to this domain (domain1).
    Thanks for your time!!

To control access to your web pages use Server Admin, select the sites tab, and then select realms.
Add a realm for each of your domains, and then exclude all users except the ones applicable to that domain.
Have you enabled mail for the users in Open Directory? What does your smtp log say when you try to send email?

  • Need help with Mail

    Hi:
Need your help with something I don´t understand: we try to set up a new hotmail account in Mail (we have used both Preference Panel and directly in Mail) but it never recieves the Inbox. I can send but don´t see anything in Inbox.
I looked into User/Library/Mail/V2/accountname/INBOX.mbox/ and the folder with the xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx name structure is never created.
I tried to set up another hotmail account and it works ok, only this specific account fails.
I Used a Permissions repair, didn't worked. Erased all data in V2, again not worked. Tried to "cheat" Mail setting up another hotmail account and then changing info to the specific account failing, not luck. Also reset sync services (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627?viewlocale=es_ES), still not work. Rebuild inside Mail also didn´t worked. Any idea to get this account working?
BTW, sorry for my bad english...

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.
