Help with Mainstage 3 RAM (12GB!!!)

I have a mid2010 iMac (iMac11,2) running Mavericks with 12GB RAM, yet it is unable to run mainstage 3 because of memory issues.  I'm using the program for a pit orchestra, so I have over 40 unique patches, and because they need to be ordered and changed quickly, I have 100 "patches" on mainstage.  I am using a lot of Kontakt 5 (NI New York Grand Piano, Project SAM concert harp, Project SAM truestrike, NI session strings, and NI Vintage Organs)  How on earth can I make this playable, because right now, this setup is unpredictable, glitchy, and unusable in a live setting.
ANY help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Wow - you're pushing that thing hard!
Mkae sure you have good airflow, of course.  Also make sure that you're only running MainStage and have elminiated all other bottlenecks.  I have a separete user account for perfomances that loads as little as possible.
Also, check into this list from the good people that write QLab.  It has some good tips for squeeing out all the juice you can.  Some are intended from using a Mac for projection, but you get the idea...
Ensure Screen Savers never start.
Turn of the translucent menu bar - this isn't a big deal, but every bit of graphics power counts, and that effect uses graphics resources.
Turn off all keyboard shortcuts for things like Mission Control, Exposé, Dashboard, etc. Also turn off Hot Corners.
Add the system hard drive and any hard drives used for media to the Privacy pane of Spotlight preferences. Spotlight indexes the files on your disk periodically, and if that happens during a show, the disk access could cause a bottleneck when you're trying to read media files for playback.
Turn off any Universal Access assistance.
Set all CD and DVD automatic options to "ignore".
Configure displays.
Set all Energy Saver preferences (battery and power adapter) to Never, and uncheck "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible".
Kill extraneous keyboard shortcuts and mouse/trackpad gestures.
Set the Sound alert volume to mute, turn off user interface sound effects and volume feedback.
Remove any network devices that aren't used during the show.
Turn off Bluetooth.
Turn off Sharing of anything.
Remove any unnecessary applications from the Login Items pane of the Users preferences.
Turn off automatic time updates.
Turn off automatic Software Updates and checks for updates.
Turn off Time Machine.

  • Help with Mainstage 3.1 CPU overload issue

I was using Kontakt 5, UVI Workstation and Pianoteq 5 in MainStage 3 without any issues.
Since I updated to MS 3.1, The CPU is always above 100% !!! I am facing audio dropouts and it is absolutely impossible to play a show
Is anyone else facing the same issue? Any tips to help reduce CPU overload will be helpful.
I have Contact and UVI workstation running from an external hard disk. I thought that might be the issue but i tried with a keyboard template set in MS 3.1 and still while playing CPU usage shoots to 100% plus!
    I am on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.

Try to get the Mainstage 3.0.4 from a timemachine backup.
Try to update all your programs like pianotec.
For me, 3.1 feels better concerning timing/ latency. This might cause more stress for the processors.
My system i7 2,2 GHz is always getting hot, fans go crazy. There's a limit: Better than 64 Samples buffer is not possible.
To be serious: A real Piano needs  0,25ms to produce a sound. We have to deal with 4ms. That's bad. So you could increase buffersize to 128 and try playing? It makes no big difference if you play the poor 4ms ore poor 6ms for example. In every case we are far away from the real thing.
Check, if you activated the "savety buffer" checkbox in audiodriver window.
If you can't find 3.0.4., you could try to reduce the installed channelstrips in your patches. Effects in concert level should be reduced. Evt. you have Efx in busses that are not needed in most patches. So cancel them in concertlevel and install them in selected patches.
I replaced a spacedesigner reverb with an reverb outside the system, it's processed from the interface. Same with a chorus.
I tested a newer MacbookPro retina, that was not better than mine. The difference was, it produced little dropouts every 10 seconds.
Hopefuly there will be a update for 3.1 soon.
And be serious: Before 3.1 you could play a show without dropouts, but was it fun? Mainstage urgently needs better latency capabilities, generally.

  • Help with the DvD Ram driver for Satelite P10

On my notebook (Sattelite p10) is Windows 2000 Professinal running, but the DVD Ram driver from the Toshiba Homepage does not work...
Where I can get a driver which is working on my notebook?

    Hi Val,
The correct driver for your notebook running Wnidows 2000 should be version 3.0.8.0 and is available for download from the Toshiba website.
I presume that this is the one which you have tried, so I am not sure what you mean when you say that 'it doesn't work'.

  • Need help with ram on bootcamp

hey guys i need help with getting more ram on the pc side of bootcamp.
it says i have 1.99 of ram on the pc side
then on the mac i got this
    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
wanting to know how to get more ram over to boot camp

    Rodney:
You cannot physically or via software add/move RAM from OSx side to Windows side. This is because you run Leopard and Windows separately and therefore when one is running the other is not active. The only thing that controls how much RAM Windows sees/uses is determined by the type of Windows you have installed (32BIT or 64BIT). Please do not confuse that with Gigabytes of RAM or disk space.
32BIT Windows has a maximum limit of 3GB of RAM (it often uses only around 2GB of RAM when it is sharing the system RAM with your video card. I believe this is the case with you.
64BIT Windows will be able to sees/use all of your 4GB of RAM.
Leopard sees/uses all of your 4GB of RAM.
If you have installed Windows XPSP2 and it is working properly on your boot camp partition then I can assure you that it is the 32BIT version.
FYI - The only time that one can select/decide how much RAM Leopard uses and how much RAM Windows uses is when one is running Windows as a Virtual Machine under software such as Fusion or Parallels. I have assumed that you are running windows on a boot camp partition (from your posts) and therefore this does not apply to you.

  • Will additional RAM help with Illustrator crashing?

I just started a new job for a company that didn't have a graphic designer so they had to buy my all new equipment. Nice right? Except when the tech guy gets me an iMac instead of what I requested: a Mac G5 with a Power PC processor. Anyways I have the iMac which is nice, but not so quick when it comes to running Adobe CS2 programs...Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop to be specific. THUS causing me major problems, cause those are the programs I need to use. I've only worked with this computer for a little over a week and Illustrator is consistently crashing when I open a file in Photoshop. This is getting slightly annoying. Will maxing out the RAM help with this problem? I figure it's the fact that Rosetta has to run in the background to run my Adobe programs which is causing the slowness and crashing. I'm used to using a G5, I had one at my previous job and it was pretty nice. AHH! Can I fix it with 2gigs of RAM or will I have to wait for Adobe to release CS3? boo.

There is being able to run, and there is waiting or not realizing the benefits CS2 + Tiger offer when working on large documents. With small files, under 4GB RAM is desirable, with large files, sometimes you want/need 8 or 12GB RAM.
And running XP on iMac for those applications while they are still not optimized - but it depends on what your time is worth. Maybe they are waiting for Mac Pro and don't want to invest in G5 (a Quad G5 isn't going to be obsolete tomorrow).
The lack of 2nd drive or external SATA or FW800 is... odd. Even a MBP can add an ExpressCard w/ 32-bit SATA or FW800.

You would only save about 500MB by deleting MS 2.1.3. You may find it useful to keep the application, or perhaps to make a zip and then delete the original

and in the new bios there is the REFRESH RATE (TREF)  and some crazy numbers, how should i know what to set it,
in A64 TWEAKER there is same option, Refresh Rate (TREF) , of course i am using the 200mhz, but can the 200mhz 15.6us cause to instabilty instead of the 3.9us ?
when ocing or not? how should i know if it causing any problems?
I am very very confused because i don't know how to oc right, i sometimes have crashes and blue screens when trying to oc, because always there is one option or setting that can make the instablity and to get real, there too Freaking many,
and how do i know for sure that Agressive timing doesn't causing to any errors or anything else? crashes and all kind.
PLZ if someone could answer those question i will be greatly happy, because i have no idea what to look for and i have some anoying problem with that, my ram is good for ocing and i really want stable ram with max speed.

I am upgrading from Tiger to SL in a MCBPro with 2 gb ram and an intel chip and I get the following notice:  Installation failed.... THE INSTALLER COULD NOT COPY THE NCESSARY SUPPORT FILES. Any help is appreciated...

Yes.   I've found that works best.  Especially if the drive is external, since external connections are typically slower, and Spotlight loves to eat up space going back and forth.   Time Machine will eat up as much space as it can, and typically needs drives at least twice the size of the original hard drive that is being backed up, if being backed up in full.   So unfortunately there is a lot of empty space that is needed for smooth operation.

  • Help with Ram question.

I have the 15" Macbook Pro with 4 Gigs of ram. I was wondering if it is worth paying 100$ to upgrade to 8 Gigs of ram since I do play a bit of video games, Thank you.

Well if you got the 2.0 Ghz 15" 2011 MacBook Pro it can help as you got a lousy video card that shares memory with the main memory. So a little more memory might help.
If you got the 2011 2.2 Ghz 15" MBP or better, then it can help, but not on the graphics as you got the 1GB Radeion 6750M and it's a beast.
See Crucial.com, punch in your machine and they will recommned the 8GB kit you need.
(you have two 2-GB modules with only two RAM slots, so you need two 4-GB RAM modules now.)
Next time, read the specs of the machines, ask online and compare what each machine can do before going and wasting your precious money.

  • Help with controller/mainstage

I'm using an M-Audio Axiom Pro 61 with Mainstage 2 and my problem is that the controller seems to be mapped to play notes a half-step above normal. When "G" is played on the controller "G#" is played on mainstage. "A" is "A#", "D" is "D#", and "E" is "F"...and so on.
Just not sure how to fix this so that the controller maps correctly to the program. "E" plays "E".
    Help would be appreciated.

    Hi
So the issue really i sthat you cannot find/get Omnisphere to open in Mainstage?
You load Omni as you would any Instrument plugin, by click-holding on the I/O slot of an Instrument Channel Strip:
You'll get a list of 3rd party AU plugins at the bottom:
If it does not show up there, you may have some issues with your installation:
Does Omni work in both Logic and Live an the same Mac?
Go to Mainstage:Audio Unit Manager: does Omni show up in here at all, and as 'successfully validated'?
If NO: go to Library:Audio:Plugins:Components and check that Omni is actually installed
Then run Mainstage in 32bit mode to force the AU Manager to re-check all the plugins.

If that does not fix it, there will be some more work to do.

  • ( K7N2G-L ) Help with ram Please guys

    Hi,
Basically, i need some help in finding some ram that is gonna work with my board.
For quite a while now i have had 2 x 512 Pc2700 sticks of crucial and a stick of 256 pc2700 crucial all working happily together in my board @ 166 mhz fsb . But all that ram is going in a computer i am building for someone as is my current xp2400 cpu . What is replacing it is a xp3000 and i was going to use a 1gb pc3200 dual channel twinmoss set but the board don't seem to want to know about it, and that is now being rma'd.
So as i refuse to pay the premium for corsair or ocz ram or buy generic shite that leaves me with either some adata ram (don't know much about this) some geil (which i fancy) but don't know if it will work, or some more crucial but this time pc3200, but they only have that at cas 3 , which is quite slow imo, but the benifit of the crucial being that it will more than likely work.
Decisions decisions, so can anyone help me here ??

    Maxp0w2h,
If you skimp on RAM you will get nothing but headaches with nForce. If you live in the U.S. do yourself a favor and get the Mushkin Level II Black RAM. It is 100% Rock Solid Stable with nForce.
    Take care,
    Richard

  • Noob needs help with Logic and Motu live setup.

    Hello everyone,
I'm a noob / semi noob who could use some help with a live setup using 2 MOTU 896HD's and Logic on a Mac.
    Here's the scenario:
I teach an outdoor marching percussion section (a drumline and a front ensemble of marimbas and vibes). We have an amazing setup of live sound to amplify and enhance the mallet percussion. There is a yamaha PA system with 2 subs and 2 mains which are routed through a rack unit that processes the overall PA balance. I'm pretty sure that the unit is supposed to avoid feedback and do an overall cross-over EQ of the sound. Other then that unit, we have 2 motu896hd units which are routed via fire-wire. I also have a coax cable routing the output of the secondary box to the input of the primary box (digital i/o which converts to ADAT in (i think?)..?
    Here's the confusion:
There are more then 8 inputs being used from the ensemble itself, so I need the 16 available inputs to be available in Logic. I was lead to believe that the 2nd motu unit would have to be sent digitally to the 1st motu unit via coax digital i/o. Once in Logic, however, I cannot find the signal or any input at all past the 8th input (of the 1st unit).
    Here's the goal:
All of my performers and inputs routed via firewire into a Mac Mini running OSX and Logic pro.
I want to be able to use MainStage and run different patches of effects / virt. instruments for a midi controller keyboard / etc.
I want to be able to EQ and balance the ensemble via Logic.
    Here's another question:
How much latency will I be dealing with? Would a mac mini with 4gb of ram be able to handle this load? With percussion, I obviously want the sound as latency free as possible. I also, however, want the flexibility of sound enhancement / modification that comes with Logic and the motu896hd units.
Any help would be REALLY appreciated. I need the routing assistance along with some direction as to whether or not this will work for this type of application. I'm pretty certain it does, as I have spoken with some other teachers in similar venues and they have been doing similar things using mac mini's / logic / mainstage / etc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

You'll definitely want to read the manual to make sure the 896HDs are connected together properly. ADAT is a little tricky, it's not just a matter of cabling them together. Go to motunation.com if you need more guidance on connecting multiple devices. Beyond that initial hookup, here are a couple of quick suggestions:
    1. Open CueMix and see if both devices are reported there. If not, your connections aren't correct. Be sure to select 44.1kHz as your sample rate, otherwise you are reducing the number of additional channels. For instance at 88.2kHz you would get half the additional channels via ADAT.
    2. You may need to create an aggregate device for the MacBook to recognize more than the first 896HD. Lots of help on this forum for how to do that. Again, first make sure you have the 896HDs connected together properly.
    3. As for latency with Mainstage on the Mini, no way to know until you try it. Generally MOTU is fantastic for low latency work but Mainstage is a question mark for a lot of users right now. If the Mini can't cut the mustard, you have a great excuse to upgrade to a MacBook Pro.

  • Help with build

    Hi all,
I need a little help with building a new comp and any help will be appericiated.
My wife is a video editor and she needs a new CPU.
She is editing HD films from various cameras (she have several clients).
The budget is around 1500-2000$ for the CPU without screens and software which she already owns.
She is working with CS5.5 and using windows 7 pro 64bit.
I read quite a lot in the past few days and I ended up more confused then I was, this is the setup which I thought of:
    CPU:       I was thinking about the i7 960 3.2 (310$) or the i7 2600k (330$).
    MB:         Asus p6x8D 1366 ddr 1600
    Graphics: Gigabyte nVidia GTX460 1gb gddr5 (210$) or gtx560(230$) the 570 is way off the budget (440$)
    BLURAY: Pioneer BDR-206
RAM:      I don't know really.. I was thinking about 12gb but I am cluless about it.
Power:     AX 850W Gold Active PFC 12cm Fan Modular (No particular reason, when I'll know my final setup I'll check the power I need with http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp).
Case:      Antec / Thermaltake, No idea which model..
OS HDD: I'm still puzzled weather to go for the small (60gb) ssd for the OS and programs or go for a 7200 rpm hd.
HDD:       W.D Caviar black 1tb 7200 rpm, 64mb, Sata III * 4 with raid on board (Raid 0 or Raid 5?  - I'll save it for another thread).
    Coolers:   Help needed
Any help will be more then welcomed.
