Help with menu customization and video "previews"

Hello. Thanks in advance for any answers to my question that are offered.
I just bought a 160GB iPod classic. I have been busy filling it up with music and videos, and had a couple of seemingly simple questions that I am finding it hard to find answers for in all the documentation.
First: Is there any possible way to separate videos into categories in such a way that they would not all be immediately visible from the video menu?
Second: Is there a way to turn off the splash screen preview shots randomly displayed when "videos" is selected in the menu? This is the same feature that displays random album art from the music library when "Music" is selected. I would be happy to just turn this feature off altogether to avoid those random stills from showing up when "Videos" is selected.
Let's just say that there are some videos on my iPod that I don't necessarily want popping up all the time, either in the menu or in those preview stills mentioned in my second question. Is there no way to somehow compartmentalize my videos, separating them into different categories between those suitable for the general public and those not? And if this is not possible, could I not at least deactivate these still shots that randomly display images from my less than suitable for public viewing videos?

I'm new to the world of iPods too and just got my Classic 160Gb last week. I'd also be interested in learning how to do this sort of categorization too. I hate having all my videos showing up under the "Movies" category and can't figure out how to move them from there to the Music Vid category.
I know there must be hundreds of users on this forum that should be able to advise how to do this. Your input would be great appreciated.

Hello everyone....I am very new to flash and actionscripting
and am self taught using mostly web research.
I am building a site with a menu and a banner that is
controlled by the menu (two swf files). I have managed to get them
to communicate however, I am stuck at this point.

region, (which I am still working on the indivual animations).
I guess I'm not understanding where the movies are loaded and

HT201302 Help with Photo's and Video's on a 2nd gen Ipod Touch?

I have a 2nd gen Ipod touch with no camera on it. You can only snap shot photos off the screen. Somehow i have a video that wasnt uploaded onto my ipod. It is 8 min 30 sec long and is watchable. It is located in the default app Photos. My quastion is was the video snapshoted and how can i snapshot a video again

I have tried many pairs (at least 10) of earphones/headphones sets, that all work on other players, but mysteriously loose the left input when using my iPod. I have tried a restore, but I do not see a difference.

Problem with BBM voice and video on Z10

i have problem connecting on my Z10 with BBM voice and video. before it works fine but i think after an update of BBM is not working anymore. the chat sesion works fine.
i have a second Z10 but that one works fine.
any solution ?

Can i make a project with photo slideshows and videos mixed?

Hi, I just bought my mac yesterday, i'm new at everything then. I want to know if i can make a movie with photo slideshows and videos in between. For example, i would like to place all my photos and videos from a trip in chronological order, so when i click play there's going to be like ten photos, then a 2minute video, then photos again and so on... which program or application do you recommend for this?

Per your description, this should not be a problem from within iMovie '08. Adding slideshows created in iPhoto (contain "Tween" tracks that iMovie '08 doesn't like) or dropping too many photos on top of a single video clip (iMovie '08 can be touchy about initial placement of dropped photos) can, however, create potential problems.

That may be a problem with the VLC plugin. VLC has never worked for me properly on the occasions that I've tried it on Windows and Linux, so I have stop using it. There are usually other plugins or media players available that work better.
What kind of media files are that?
For WMP files you can install the new Windows Media Player plugin you can also try RealPlayer and QuickTime if it is about media that those programs can handle to see if that works better.

New to Macs and need help with communication error in video chat

Hello! I have the same problem with video chatting that many others are having with errors -7 and -8. I am brand new to macs, and while I understand what the other threads are talking about about changing ports and settings, I don't exactly know how to do those things on my new system (iMac with OS X tiger 10.4.8). My quicktime settings are set to 1.5 and my iChat port is changed to 443. I have been able to connect with one person via iChat video on a different network, but I was given the above errors when I tried to connect with someone else tonight. I am using my built in airport with a Lynksys WRT54G broadband router. Please let me know how I can go about fixing this problem. Thank you!

Help with computer setup and PP settings for faster/better previews

I have been using Cyberlink PowerDirector software for video editing. It is very easy to use and can do quite a bit. It was also accelerated by Intel HD graphics built into my system, so I could see a lot of my work at a pretty high resolution in real time.
However, I wanted to see what PP was capable of, specifically the Warp Stabilizer.
So I downloaded PP and have been trying to use it, but it was just slow as heck to preview anything (chop stop chop stop...), with render times being insanely long (12 hours for five minutes of footage vs. about 30 minutes with PowerDirector).
Thinking it was a problem with my system and I needed to get a real graphics card, I got an EVGA GTX 670 (FTW) for $400, and popped it in. I modified the text file so PP would see it as a compatible card, opened up PP and changed the engine to the new card.
Things are faster, but I was expecting a lot more. Here's what I'm doing:
1. Shooting Canon 5D mark II (now III) clips 20-60 seconds long, 1080p.
2. Import to PP and sequence them.
3. Adding effects:
     A. Top adjustment layer for fast color correction (white balance)
     B. Next adjustment layer: 3-way color, shadow/highlight, unsharp mask, fast blur
     C. Video 1 layer has the clips with warp stabilizer applied to each, and dissolves.
My final output will be 720p. ( I shoot 1080p so the Warp Stabilizer will have more to work with, and I can crop without feeling like I'm degrading quality).
My system: i7 2600k, 16GB RAM, GTX 670 graphics, 120GB SSD "Max IOPS", 2TB 7200rpm internal, 2TB 7200rpm external (USB 2.0, backup drive).
I can currently preview at 1/4 res in realtime. I would really like to be able to get to 1/2 res (of course full would be great). One thing that worries me is that GPU-Z indicates that my GPU is only running at about 2% while previewing, while CPU usage is at around 50%. I was under the impression that the Mercury thing would use GPU/CUDA to process previews and effects that are supported (that includes Warp Stabilizer).
I've looked at Sequence Settings and fiddled with Preview File Format and size, but that doesn't seem to do anything. I'm currently looking around at codecs (Cineform, DNxHD), but don't know if those can help.
What settings should I alter to get better previews?

Well I'm still pretty clueless about this, but for anyone who is looking at this and wondering, here's what I've gleaned:
1. After Effects, especially CS6, makes much more and better use of graphics cards than does Premiere Pro. I'm guessing that PP will, in future versions, make better use of them. For now, no need to spend more than a couple hundred bucks on one.
2. Update the software. PP and AE both performed substantially better after installing the .01 update from adobe. After you install the update, be sure to re-do the CUDA hack, if necessary.
3. As it stands, money for a PP system is best spent on a processor, as in the newest Intel (currently Ivy Bridge), and overclocked. This is where performance happens. I'd say on a 2012 system, 16 GB RAM should be considered a minimum for video editing, and 24 or 32 if you can afford it. More than that probably won't be utilized. Hard disks can affect performance, but I don't think it's a bottleneck unless you're doing something that requires VERY fast/large reads and writes (4k source?). Most people who have high-end editing stations also have a bunch of drives in RAID, but if you look at the performance chart, the SECOND highest scoring tester did not use RAID (though did use a presumably fast and large SSD).
Keep in mind that all of this has to do with RENDER speeds. I still don't know what the bottleneck is for PREVIEWS, but I'm just going to assume it's the same.

Help needed for a new Mac user with his photo and video librarys

after swopping my Ericson for an iphone a year ago. then taking delivery of an iPad on launch day. I have finally taken the plunge and swopped my windows pc for a lovely 27" iMac... what have I been doing all these years using windows? using the Mac is a joy.
As I get more involved with their products I am constantly fascinated (and frustrated) by Apples way of doing things. this situation is no exception and I need Apple people with Apple experience to help me make a decision.　
I am looking at software to organise my photos and videos. I have approximately 7000 photos residing on a windows home server. in addition to that there are some 200 or so HD videos taken with either my Sanyo Xacti camcorder or Sony DSC W300 camera. both cameras I think produce MPEG format
my first experience was iPhoto. great for the `price' but not very flexible. single libraries, poor editing facilities. and because I have files referenced and not copied to my iPhoto library, if I deleted from the library its not deleted from the server (and vice versa). this leads to images being displayed in the library that don't exist etc.
then I downloaded the Aperture 3 trial. great until I came across the `Unsupported file format' situation with the MPEG videos that strangely enough, iPhoto will recognise and play (the Apple way of doing things).
1. should I put the photos on the Mac instead of the server?
2. Is there a better way of managing the images for deletions etc
3. should I stick with Aperture because of the editing
4. is there a better software or way of managing the videos
sorry for the ramble but its all new to me

had a good session on all three of the recommended programs and now have a better understanding of the excellent advice I have been given.
iPhoto
great `free' program that is easy to use but somewhat limited on features. think I would always be looking to upgrade from here (feels a bit boring)
Aperture
really enjoyed using this but at £170! a hefty price tag considering its limited file support. fortunately its only my camera video clips (MPEG) that it wont view. my camcorder files (MP4) are fine so this is looking better as a one stop solution.
Elements
much more than just a image touch up. considering what it can do.. very good value at around £60. teamed with iPhoto it becomes even more attractive.
My issue still remains with the masters file location.
I would prefer to keep all my media on the external server to ensure I have a fail safe recovery option. its a 4TB 5 disk affair which contains all the family music, video images and DVD's etc (likely to change to a Mac server in the future!)
one feature that I cant find, (even in Aperture which surprises me), is the ability to automatically manage deletions from referenced locations? i.e. delete a file from the server and when aperture opens up the thumbnails are updated. or, delete a referenced master in Aperture and an option comes up to delete the referenced file on the external drive.
how would a professional photographer or studio using Aperture manage this process (or would they use something else?)
forgot to mention that through our student facilities i can get a discounted copy of Photoshop CS5 for around £175 which is close to Aperture. is this a worthwhile option or overkill
