Help with missing files within lightroom

I need help locating the missing files within lightroom. When I click on the question mark to locate the files, it opens up a window and I click locate, and then the files are no longer there. This happens even on files that I have not moved out of lightroom. How can I make all of my files appear as they used to? Thanks so much!

You have to find the photos on your hard disk, somewhere. At this point, Lightroom can't help you because it doesn't know where the photos are. If they haven't been renamed, you can have your operating system search all of your hard disk(s) for a specific photo name. Then, you can reconnect entire folders (or folder hierarchies) via

  • Help with missing files in Elements 3

I am not a computer wizard an dI am trying to catalogue my digital photos. I have almost 2,000 photos in Photoshop elements. All the photos are in the browser and I have created folders for each holiday, wedding, graduation etc. and copied photos into them. Suddenly a lot of the photos have a red rectangle on the bottom of them with a jagged line running diagonally across them which I have now learned means that there is a missing file. I have tried to reconnect the missing file following the help program but nothing happens except the 'torch' searching for the file. I can't do anything with these photos, I can't edit them or print them of copy them to a flash drive as back up. All these photos are precious and I can still see the image in teh browser. Have I lost them?

OK I consider myself severely reprimanded!
Sorry to appear dim but all I have ever done is:
    1 open photoshop elements
    2. take the card out of my camera
    3. put it into my computer.
    4. click 'get photos'
    5.save photos to my browser
    6. create new folders as previously described.
Photoshop Elements toolbar has the camera to 'get photos' so that's what I did, I didn't put them anywhere else first and then copy them into there.
The photos in my browser and the copies in my folders all have the 'missing file' icon so I can't drag the folder one back into the browser it just keeps saying 'missing file'. Plus some photos I haven't copied to folders also show the same icon. Can I say goodbye to my photos or are they there somewhere but I just can't find them? I haven't deleted anything.

  • Please help with "Missing File" on iMovie 10.0.2!

After importing clips from my GoPro to iMovie 10.0.2, the clips along with others in the same events are not available. The preview screen and thumbnail both say, "Missing File." Many of the clips that are now "missing" were uploaded and edited months ago

Beat markers are not included in iMovie 10. Another nice feature that has gone missing in this upgrade.

  • Help with "Missing Files" message

My blog has been giving me an error message when I open it: "The following errors occurred when trying to open this document", "Missing file 'Pinstripewelcometile-15.jpg". It's one of the background pinstripe graphics for the "formal" theme that has an "x" and a question mark - it's used on all the entry pages. (http://web.me.com/mikejdunlap/Site/BLOG/Entries/2010/4/27ChocablockCookies.html) I've added new pages and republished, but the "number" of the missing graphic keeps changing every time I open iWeb: "welcomepinstripe15.jpg" etc - I think it started at "_9.jpg". I can't "replace" the file or add them again to my page - since it's a template graphic, rather than my own that I can choose in the media browser. How do I get iWeb to put this background image back in the entry pages? Thanks in advance for any help!

UPDATE: I restarted my computer and went through the exact same process outlined above and now it looks like it resolved itself; the error message no longer appears after I turn sync back on. I believe everything is working correctly now. Basically, it looks like the solution is to completely reboot your computer.

  • Help with missing files

I had a folder saved on my desktop and it showed in the side bar on lightroom as such. I dragged the folder to the be under "pictures" and suddenly the file just disappeared. I have a Mac and when I search for the file, the folder comes up but instead of having the photo icons it has two icons that say "Lightroom Catalog" and "Lightroom Data." When I click on these nothing happens. Do you know how to help me find the missing photos?
    Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. Here is the Lightroom folder. Under "desktop" there was a folder entitled "Katie's Baby Shower." I did not want it on my desktop anymore. I wanted it to be saved under "Pictures." I attempted to drag the folder to be under the "Pictures" heading so that it would be in the same location as the "Februrary 2014" folder. When I did this the folder just disappeared.
I can find the folder in Finder under "Pictures" and when I open it it looks like this:
When I open each of these icons it brings me to the Lightroom library screen but says "no pictures found"
Appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks!

  • SOMEONE PLEASE HELP WITH MISSING FILES XP PROBLEM

i recently purchased an ipod touch, and all i want to do is get some music on it, and update the firmware, but i cant use itunes, cuz im getting 'there are some files missing' problem.
I swear to god, if i dont get this fixed by the end of the week, im gonna post the latest video on youtube... on how to smash up apple products.
Ive been trying NOT to buy apple products since the first dawn of time, but i do actually like the ipod touch. But, low and behold... the very reason why i never buy apple products has been confirmed!
can someone PLEASE tell me if there is a solid fix for this? i have literally tried EVERYTHING before you ask. im at my wits end.
Using XP home, all updates installed... latest itunes,

It will probably help if you'll post the exact error message and when it's occurring. Otherwise we'll just be guessing, not that someone here might not have a good guess. I'm going to guess that this thread might help:

  • Help with importing files into Lightroom 3.2

Nothing has changed on my Mac for a year, except installing Lightroom 3 two months ago. I have had no issues importing till yesterday. Imported 300 .CR2 files, installed another card into my card reader and it will not import the files from the same camera, same shoot, done same day.
I have tried to copy the files over to my hard drive and import from there. Failed again.
I can open the files in Camera RAW and convert them to PSD files on a different drive and they still will not import from there.
    Any suggestions out there/
I am begging to hate LR3 more and more and more every day.

Copy the files from your card reader or camera to your Mac then import the files into Lr. You can configure Lr to import where to a new location or leave them were they are.

  • Can some help with CR2 files ,Ican`t see CR2 files in adobe bridge

can some help with CR2 files ,I can`t see CR2 files in adobe bridge when I open Adobe Photoshop cs5- help- about plugins- no camera raw plugins. When i go Edit- preference and click on camera raw  shows message that Adobe camera raw plugin cannot be found

That's strage. Seems that the Camera Raw.8bi file has been moved to different location or has gone corrupt. By any chance did you try to move the camera raw plugin to a custom location?
Go To "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats" and look for Camera Raw.8bi file.
If you have that file there, try to download the updated camera raw plugin from the below location.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5371&fileID=5001
In case  you ae not able to locate the Camera Raw.8bi file on the above location, then i think you need to re-install PS CS5.

  • How to fix 'missing files' in Lightroom 4? [was: adobe lightroom 4]

    Hi,
I have the scenario whereby all the images, I assumed, on my hard drive were as I imported to my  catalogue.  but it now appears that all of my images, are showing as previews but some are showing as 'missing files'.  Attempts to reconnect are proving futile as the usual click on and find previous file location location point me to the 'c' drive with a request for the file name.  On doing this, the 'C' drive doesn't appear to the have file name I require.  Have I in-advertately scrubbed something?  I have a lot of images of my grandkids, some of which I can delete but there is one particular image of my premature born grandaughter in the hospital I really need to keep.
I can't do any saving, moving of files whilst these question marks are in place, can someone help as this software, is not as user friendly as I first assumed.  All I want is a simple walk thru explanation of saving images from a camera and sorting of existing HD files,(many from past shoots on different cameras), to enable me to sort into some kind of format.
Would it be a good idea to completely scrub all of my images from the 'C' hard drive, (I have a backup on my external deskstop drive), and start afresh?
I have a external drive connected to my laptop and all those images are showing ok with no missing file links.   It's only the laptop internal drive that is showing the problem.
any help would be a bonus as the online youtbe video instructions don't answer my problem.

    Thanks Jim for your response,
    I will upgrade to 5.3

  • How do I move images between files within Lightroom 4?

  • Locating and reinstalling missing files in Lightroom 1.4 ....

I would like to know how to re-install missing files once you locate a missing folder or set of files, I don't understand what to do next (once you have found the files) in order to put the file back into it's original location so the files will work in Lightroom (i.e. change the "red" wording back into "white wording" in the folder column). Initially I click onto the red word and a"locate missing folder" window pops up indicating the files original location at the bottom of the window. I have tried putting that file back into it's original location but nothing changes in Lightroom.
Also I notice that the file will still be listed in the library so when I have tried to just drag that fie back into Lightroom, I am unable to because a window pops up saying the file is already in the catalog. At which point it ask me if I would like to see that file in the Library. Once I see the file in the library I have to delete it in order to re-install the original file.
EEEEKKKKKS there must be a simpler way than this just to re-locate files and make the work again ????? I have tried finding information in Adobe's support manual for Lightroom but can't seem to find the answer. I have also tried using other sources like Scott Kelby's book on Lightroom.
This seems like such an obvious problem that would occur with all users so I know I must missing or overlooking something here. I love Lightroom but this is one of the little frustrations I have with the program. I wish a better manual came with the program when I bought it......
I would appreciate any help anyone has on this topic..... Wesley Wong

  • Help with selecting files from script menu or drag and drop

I found this scale images applescript online. It works great when a bunch of files is dragged on top of the script but I would like it to also work when a folder or group of files is selected in the Finder and I activate it from the scripts menu.
I can't get my on run statement to work. I'm not really an Applescript guy so I'm really just asking if someone can help finish what I started in this on run.
-- save in Script Editor as Application
-- drag files to its icon in Finder
    property target_width : 120
    property save_folder : ""
    on run
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
set folder_path to quoted form of (POSIX path of (the selection as alias))
set theItems to every file of folder_path
    end tell
    end run
    on open some_items
    -- do some set up
    tell application "Finder"
-- get the target width, the default answer is the property target_width
set new_width to text returned of ¬
(display dialog "Target width:" default answer target_width ¬
    buttons {"OK"} default button "OK")
    if new_width as integer > 0 then
    set target_width to new_width
    end if
-- if the save_folder property has not been set,
-- set it to the folder containing the original image
    if save_folder is "" then
    set save_folder to ¬
(container of file (item 1 of some_items) as string)
    end if
-- get the folder to save the scaled images in,
-- default folder is the property save_folder
    set temp_folder to ¬
    choose folder with prompt ¬
"Save scaled images in:" default location alias save_folder
set save_folder to temp_folder as string
    end tell
-- loop through the images, scale them and save them
    repeat with this_item in some_items
    try
    rescaleand_save(thisitem)
    end try
    end repeat
tell application "Image Events" to quit
    end open
    on rescaleand_save(thisitem)
    tell application "Finder"
    set new_item to save_folder & "scaled." & (name of this_item)
    end tell
    tell application "Image Events"
    launch
    -- open the image file
    set this_image to open this_item
set typ to this_image's file type
    copy dimensions of this_image to {current_width, current_height}
    scale this_image by factor (target_width / current_width)
save this_image in new_item as typ
    end tell
    end rescaleandsave

When items are dragged to your script's icon they are passed in to the on open handler, so this triggers:
    on open some_items
and the dragged items are passed in as some_items
In contrast, when you double-click on the script, or invoke it via the Script menu, this runs the on run handler:
    on run
      tell application "Finder"
        activate
folder_path to quoted form of (POSIX path of (the selection as alias))
set theItems to every file of folder_path
      end tell
    end run
However, there's nothing in this block that actually does anything with the selection - you (dangerously) assume that the selection is a folder (you really should check first), and just set theItems to every file in that folder then you exit.
So to do what you want you'll need to edit your run handler to filter the selection and pass files over to the code that does the hard work.
You already have the basis for this - your rescaleandsave() handler, so it's just a matter of identifying the files in the selection and passing those over to that handler:
    on run
      tell application "Finder"
set cur_selection to (get selection) -- get the selection
repeat with each_item in cur_selection -- iterate through
if class of each_item is folder then -- do we have a folder?
set theFiles to every file of each_item -- if so, get its contents
repeat with each_file in theFiles -- iterate through them
my rescaleand_save(eachfile) -- and process them
            end repeat
else if class of each_item is document file then -- do we have a file selected?
my rescaleand_save(eachitem) -- if so, process it
          end if
        end repeat
      end tell
    end run
So the idea here is that the run handler gets the selection and works through the (potentially-numerous) items. For each selected item it checks whether its a folder or a file, if its a folder it gets all the files within and passes them to the rescaleandsave handler.
Note that this is not recursive - it won't catch files within folders within folders - since it only looks at the top level of selected folders, but it wouldn't be hard to rework the script to handle that if that's what you need.
