Help with monitor calibration - simulating NTSC on computer monitor

I know the proper way to monitor video is using an external NTSC production monitor. Since I don't have one I'm wondering how I can get the closest to simulating an NTSC monitor on my Apple Cinema Display. I have made a monitor calibration using gamma 1.4 that seems pretty good except the shadow areas are too dark. If I can resist the temptation to lighten the dark areas, based on what I see on my computer monitor, my results look pretty good on a TV played from a DVD. If there was some way I could set up my Cinema Display to be closer to an NTSC monitor it would help me a lot. Any ideas?
As a related question: If my video project is not destined for TV but played on a laptop and shown on a screen using a projector maybe I can use my computer monitor as more of a guide to what it will look like on screen.
Another related question: How do the modern flat screen TVs relate to the older CRT variety in terms of calibration. Do the new flat screens still use the same NTSC calibration? The flat screens seem more like computer monitors to me.

If the program won't be viewed on TV, using the computer monitor should be fine ... but keep in mind that Windows system's use a different gamma.

They aren't. They are designed to reproduce the NTSC/ATSC color space and gamma. However, like most later model consumer CRTs, flat panel TVs have built-in circuitry designed to artificially enhance/correct the image. That's the primary reason to use a professional monitor, be it a flat panel or an older CRT.

  • Help with 2 iTunes accounts on 1 computer

    A few questions here
Gfs laptop has broke so to replace going to get an iPad so she wants to put her iTunes account on my computer.
I am assuming the simplest way to do this (windows 7) is to create her own user name, sign herself in, download iTunes and put her apple I'd in?
Also before syncing her iPhone to her iTunes account on my computer, she wants her photos/videos backed up without using iTunes for fear of losing them when updating to iOS 5.0.1 (currently using 4. Something)
I am assuming to do this you need to check make iPhone storage device then my computer select her phone then drag n drop to a new created folder for he iPhone photos?
Next is she has very little music not purchased through iTunes which is obviously on her iTunes account.  Can she somehow copy Music that I have on my iTunes that has been either imported from cd's or downloaded (not from iTunes store) from my iTunes to hers? Possibly copying the files somehow
Apologies to the community but I am a total novice at this and any help will be much appreciated

  • Need help with Westell Versalink 327w on new computer with Windows Vista

    Greetings!
I'm having trouble trying to connect to my Westell Versalink 327w with my new computer. My old computer and laptop work perfectly fine in connecting to the router. However, when I plug in the Ethernet cable to the router on my new computer, the computer doesn't recognize that a connection is even established. (As if it's not actually plugged in.)
The port on the back of my computer is perfectly fine, as it works with another internet connection I have setup. The cable and router work fine on both my old computer and laptop. (In fact, I'm using the laptop to post on the forums right now.)
The Router itself shows the Ethernet connection that's plugged in as a blinking green light.
Is there a driver or some software I need to install on the new computer? Any specific settings?
I'm using Windows Vista on the new computer, and the old computers both have Windows XP. Is there some sort of complicated new setup that Vista has which is preventing the connection, or like I said, is there software or a driver that I didn't install on the new computer that's making it not recognizing the router at all?
Any help would be much appreciated!

    IceSage,
Hey there!  Drivers would not required for an ethernet connection to the Versalink.  This appears to be an issue with Vista specifically.  If you have not already done so you may want to disable IPv6 in the TCP/IP settings of your LAN controller:
Network and Sharing Center > Manage network connections > Right click on "Local Area Network" > Properties > Uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) > Click "OK" > Reboot > cross fingers
Let us know if that works.

  • Need help with Imovie before I throw my computer out the window!

Ok so I got a canon fs200 for christmas and supposidly it works great with imovie. Now when I first hooked it up it kept crashing saying "IMovie quit unexpectedly while using the Sonix SN9C201 Webcam Plugin." I do not understand why its trying to use that plugin but anyways. So I messed with it some more and thought I figured out the problem and that it was plugged into my mini stack instead of directly into the computer. So when I tried that it loaded up great and worked, now today when trying to bring in videos from the camera it has gone back to crashing with same error! This makes NO sense...it is plugged directly into the computer it comes up as its own drive on my desktop yet crashes everytime I try to bring video in. Please help me with what I can do!

Wow..I feel like a idiot..I had my webcam plugged in and totally forgot about it b/c I never use it. Unplugged that and bammo works like a charm. Thanks for makin me realize it hah

  • Help with importing music from your old computer that is on cd rw's

When you import music from your old computer that is on cd rw's how do get all the song info back?
For example when you plug your ipod in (after you've imported the music) that already has on the songs on it and the titles will it just automatically update it? I have soooo many songs and I'm really not looking forward to having to fill in all the information now myself.Music was exported from my old computer from itunes on to blank cd's. Now I'm in the process of importing the cd's into the itunes library. The songs do not come with titles. They just say track 1, track 2, for example. From my understanding itunes can only pull up the cd info for the actual cd that you buy in the store. I would really appreciate anyone's help.

I'm not sure. I burned the songs on a cd-r through itunes. What do you think?
Sadly, this is not a good way to prepare for transfering your library. If your music still exists on your iPod then the easiest thing is probably to look at this post from Zevoneer which gives details of various methods for pulling data back from the iPod.

  • Newbie: help with accessing itunes account on another computer.

I've got itunes installed fully working on my computer.
Yesterday, I realised I could install itunes on my laptop and it automatically synced in with all my music and podcasts - great!
However, when I attempted to use itunes on my laptop today, none of the music or podcasts appeared?
I do not understand why it did this automatically yesterday and now today, there is nothing showing.
Once I logged onto my laptop yesterday, everything just showed automatically. I've made sure I've logged into itunes today etc but nothing.
PLEASE can someone help. Many thanks.

If  you want it on a second computer, put it there.

  • Need Help with parallel parking simulator

    Hi,
i am currently working on a Parallel Parking simulator project which involves hardware and software.
The hardware part involves real driving equipment interfaced to the PC and connecting Via USB port ( on windows XP )
and the software which involves Java3d API for graphics.
i have trouble with the physical car Model , for straight line motion i am using Newton;s equations, however for car turning i cannot find a suitable model, i have been browsing and googling a lot , i came across many Physics Engines like ODE java, however i am totally new to this whole Java3d , as well as gaming experience, i apreciate any help regarding modeling car turning ( cornering) or an advice about physics engines, and by the way , any USB advice welcome since JUSB package doesnt support Windows. i have been able to emulate a Serial Com Port for communication, however i cannot even find an API for this ( again for my OS Windows XP) why i am limited to Windows is that the USB driver is only available for windows.
    Any Help ???
    Thanks a lot

Can't say I've done this myself, but this would be my approach.
To rotate an object, you normally need to find the midpoint, or centre of gravity.
In this case, you will want to rotate the car around the midpoint of the back axle.
This is because the back axle is fixed, and the car kind of pivots around it.
So, the "origin", where you will rotate the car, will be the midpoint of the back axle.
That's as far as I've caught on this thought.
I'm not sure how you'd map the steering wheel direction, to a rotation of the car. Unless you say that 30 degrees on the steering wheel = 5 degrees car rotation, or some other crude mapping. You'd have to take into account whether the car was going forward or backwards.
    So forwards = 5 degrees, backwards = -5 degrees.
This library mentions support for steering wheels under Java.

  • Help with two ipod users on one computer???

Ok heres a quick rundown of the problem. My girlfriend and i both have ipod minis and i am having difficulty getting I tunes to work for me. Her I tunes works fine for her I pod, but when i try to add music files to my ipod using her I tunes, it keeps telling me that my ipod is attached to another music library, then it asks me if i want to erase the music on the ipod and download her music. I thought that maybe i was doing something wrong so i decided to install my copy of itunes to remedy the problem. I tried to install my ipods i tune disc onto the computer, everything looks like it installs well but for some reason its seems as though you can't have two versions of itunes on one computer. Can someone help me? Is there an easy way to fix this?

OH good lord! Go into your start up menu and find Tour Windows XP and it will show you how. OR GO into your Control Panel, click on USER ACCOUNTS and go from there...its not rocket science, trust me

  • Help with CS 6 on a second computer

My daughter has Photoshop CS 6 installed on her 64 bit Windows 7 Pro computer.  She now has a new computer (also 64 bit Windows 7 Pro)  and would like to get CS 6 on it too.  I have been led to believe that she can have the program on two computers as long as only one copy is in use at one time. As a matter of fact, I have my copy of CS 4 installed on two computers. The problem my daughter has is that her copy of CS 6 was downloaded and she does not have a disk.  Is there a way she can get CS 6 onto her second computer?

  • Need help with download error on windows 8 computer.

I have a windows 8 computer, and I have been trying to download Itunes to my computer but am getting an error that apple support was not included or that apple application support software was not found to uninstall and try again same thing several more times.

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Help with syncing my ipod to new computer!!!!!

I got a new computer recently with windows 7 installed. however, it doesn't have my itunes library from my previous computer. This is only on my ipod touch. I have put a few new albums onto my computer, but can't put these onto my ipod; i would sync the ipod with my new library, but i think that would get rid of all the music that's already on my ipod? What i would like to know is how i can get all the music on my itouch onto my computer's itunes library (i'm not bothered about losing the few new albums i've just put on there)
    thanks very much, Simon

Where is your backup? You should always have a backup.
Itunes store does not keep a copy of your music for you. The only way it would be on the new computer is if you put it there. Once you download a song once, then you must keep up with it and move it wherever you want.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:
    Without syncing - File>Transfer Purchases
When you sync your ipod to a different computer, it will first erase the content from the ipod, then replace it with content from the new computer.
