Help with MSI P8T Neo-V P4 Board

I just purchased this new board to replace a bad one.  I have a P4 Prescott 2.8 ghz with OCZ PC4200 2x512 mb on it.  I can't get anything overclocked on this board, not even a slight overclock which is what I am looking for.  Any ideas.  I don't see anywhere to change the CPU voltage, I suppose I can't with this board, maybe thats the problem.  I am running the memory at 2.75 but can up it to 2.85.   Even if I don't get an overclock, I can't get my memory to run as dual channel either.  What is Top Performance?  Also board doesn't like Turbo, Ultra etc on the memory.  Any help, I mean there has to be some one who is still running something like this.
MSIuser2k7

Leave as standard and buy a good cpu cooler for best performance....... prescott run very hot.
No reliable OC on prescott, as voltage is dynamic and not static like Northwood.........

  • Help with MSI K8N Neo Platinum

HELP please- motherboard MSI K8N Neo PLATINUM: I tried to take away the backplate for the heatsink (on the back side of MB) in order to install the zalman HS beafore i read the forum (use a fan...) and the worst of all happend:
I scratched the back surface!! the scratches are minor, that is 4 scratches half a milimeter long each and not deep but i can see the copper of some lines leading from the memory slots to the processr. My question is : can I try and build the computer on that motherboard anyway or better buy a new one? is there a risk of dammaging other components? oh god what a mistake!

Make sure the new backplate is non-conductive. The backplate for the Hyper 6 has a non-conductive sticker on it. Make sure to keep it on if youve got one... If the lines are exposed even with the back-plate on perhaps you should cover them with some non-conductive (100% non conductive!) tape or something.
Then it doesnt matter if they are exposed, as long as they are ok.
A good tip, which got when i was removing my backplate, is to use a blow dryer to heat it up and the remove it with your fingers. That way youll also notice if it gets to hot
The glue gets sticky at blow drier temps. And pls, dont singe the MB with your blow dryer, you only have to make it hot, and if you cant touch it, how can you remove it with your fingers?
I guess theres no way of telling if you have a serious prob and no way to tell if your cpu will be ok. I guess you could (?) try and start it wíthout anything (cpu, mems) but a PSU, and then, if it (and maybe the PSU) goes "!Pfsssssss!"  or "bang!", youll now you will have to replace it.
I put a screwdriver through an asus board once, and it still worked...

    memory voltage 2.1
Make sure that the memory timings are not set to 4-4-4-x but that they are set to the defaults values (5-5-5-x).  Also ensure, that the memory clock speed is not set to anything higher than 400 MHz (=DDR2-800).  The voltage at these settings should not need to exceed 1.95V.  So please lower it accordingly.  In case the freezes still occure, please run memtest86+ to check your memory for errors.

Please get rid of that tool for all further tests.  Uninstall it completely from your system as it is known to cause crashes and freezes on its own terms when running.

  • BUG with Memory CAS-Latency with MSI i848P Neo-LS BIOS

I have a bug with MSI i848P Neo-LS BIOS. I try many MSI i848P with same trouble : the CAS Latency is always set to 2.0 even if the memory is CAS Latency 2.5.
It doesn't depend on PSU or others things (graphics card,...).
    Try with Pentium 4C 2.6 or 2.8
But I have just one brand of memory (but many different sticks). Chips reference are VT56DD32M8PC-5 (256 or 512 Mb). This memory are reference as Cas Latency 2.5
If I set memory timings on SPD or manual : same result !!!
If I set memory speed on AUTO or 400 MHz : same result  !!!
If I set other timings, then they are save correctly (ie : RAS# precharge set to 3 or 4).
    I check timings with latest version of Memtest86+ V1.0 : http://www.memtest.org/
and of course, I get many errors.
The same memory tested on others mobo, give good results.
I try Windows XP installation and I get....  blue screens.
With some memory sticks : I have this message "memory timing too tighly",
if I press F1 to continue: then I get a memory cas latency of 2.5 with memtest86+ and then no error.
I try BIOS revision 1.0 (default) and 1.2: same result !!!
So, as I said before, I think this is a bug with the BIOS. I agree that a BIOS cannot detect correctly all kind of memory, but if you set memory timings manualy, then it must be set as you want ! ?
    Any idea...
    Thanks

    H0 Alex,
You are correct.I have the same problem with my 875p neo lsr on bios 1.9. TH0S 0S B0OS BUG.but everyone says your psu is not enough or your rams isnt  on the MSI Memory Compatability List.
why all of rams I try give same result?
MS0 boards works only with 10 or 20 ram.you don't say customer why you use this rams?
why in asus boards many os these rams working properly. This rams isnt on the MSI Memory Compatability List.but working.I try many no name rams and results are very good in all of the tests.
In my opinion MS0 bioses doesnt work good enough.

  • MOVED: Need help with msi mega 180 + athlon xp-m combo

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
Need help with msi mega 180 + athlon xp-m combo

AFAIK, you shouldn't need a pinmod for a Mobile Athlon XP CPU to work in a nforce2 mobo
did you have any other CPU installed prior to this one? if so, refer here to clear the CMOS: Clear CMOS Guide
next, refer to your manual, or download from MSI, for location of the FSB jumpers; ensure J8 is shorted across pins 1-2, and J7 is shorted
finally, enter your BIOS setup menu, and under Advanced Chipset Features, set CPU FSB to 133mhz (or even 166mhz if you have DDR333 memory). the only thing i can't see in the Mega 180 manual is where you set the multiplier...
which is where the BIOS has limited overclocking features, and you might have a problem here
i think i'll pass this over to the Overclockers forum, where someone may be able to give a better answer....

    Hi,
I would love to overclock my q6600 from 2.4 to 3.0 Ghz.
I've bought a new cooler and placed it.

    Q6600 , 2 Gb ram, nvidia 9800 GT, 500GB.
    Motherboard:

    Thats right, as 10acjed said
    (2x) 1 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (6-6-6-18 @ 400Mhz) (5-5-5-15 @ 333Mhz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266Mhz )
I can also choose 800 Mhz like the picture of his, but the adjusted dram frequency differs and 800 will result in like ~999.
Btw the dram Mhz is on generally on [auto], but that is the same as 800.
So I set it to 667, So the adjusted dram freq will be around 830.
that could be your problem right there. Is that when you are running at 300 FSB??
Try it at 533 and see what happens... If it is at 830 when set to 667 and you try and raise the cpu  higher its also raising the ram higher, probably causing an issue..
I am still pretty sure you are hitting a wall with that board, its just not a great overclocking board. I am extremely disappointed with my NEO-F as far as overclocking goes. But its been running stable for about 3 years now so its a good board....
If all else fails run it at 300 - 320 (as high as you can get stable) and put the ram at 667 so it runs around 830, ou will have a nice moderate OC...

  • VCORE PROBLEMS WITH MSI P35 NEO F

To see if I can help or at least explain what's happening, buy a MSI P35 NEO F for using a quad, the topic is as follows handling vcore is rare
First thing I can not put less voltage that the cpu brings default, second what happens next if bios setting 1.3250 vcore for Quad, once in both windows everest, cpuz, like others programs tell me that this placed on 1.40 vcore which is excessive for the speed at which the quad, this is so in this mobo? Their story that was installed version 1.20 bios which handled vcore%, the upgrade to version 1.40 and is now handled in decimals (numbers) vcore, but still the problem
You pull more vcore which setting in bios and if you want to download the vcore eg put 1.26 vcore not let you because it takes the vcore default of cpu minimum.
i'm  not crashing or problems with the temperatures, but nobody likes to have more vcore's necessary.
Wonder because being rookie of this mobo, maybe there's some bios version that fixes this bug or someone knows something else, thank you guys
    C2Q Q6600
    2 X 1GB G.SKILL 6400
    PSU 550 MODULAR TOPOWER
-- SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH --

You can slap 1.6v in that CPU and temps won't rise that much.
Core 2 Duo/Quad operates @ 1.250-1.425, anywhere in between those values is perfectly stable for Intel stock cooler and frequency.
Absolutely nothing to worry about. But if you want to complain about >1c I really can't see the sense in that.

  • Really need help with MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5/OC:(

    Greetings to all,
I really need help with my brand new MSI R7970-2PMD3GD5/OC. I've purchased it two days ago and I didn't really have time to test the card until yesterday. The card is I think way to hot for my "liking". It idles at 56c-60c, at full load in Heaven benchmark 3.0 in 1920x1080, extreme tessellation and 8xAA card reaches 95c-97c. Stock cloacks are 1010Mhz/1375Mhz and stock voltage is 1,174v. Case is being cooled by two Noctua NF-P12 fans. Also I tried lowering the voltage and "underclocking" the card to a standard 925Mhz in small increments, but it doesn't help at all. Each and every time it results in BSOD and dx dll errors and complete system failures. Replacing the card wouldn't be a problem if I lived in a "normal" country that has access to a steady supply. Retailer that sold me a card told me that only 5 cards total have been imported from the launch day and told me that i bought the "last" card in my country. They could order a replacement but it would take them more then a month to do so.:( Ohhh and one more thing I don't overclock, everything in my case is at their default values.
Recently, I read that "Amd released" a bios update for a standard reference boards that turns them into a "GHZ editions". Also lot of users report a lower voltage requirements and lower temps with that "boost bios". As I understand this card pcb is not Amd's reference board design, I could be wrong it's not that uncommon.. So I didn't want to risk warranty by flashing it to a position 1. Will MSI release the boost bios for this model of card? I am humbly asking MSI staff on how to proceed regarding this problem. I would be immensely grateful for any help you could provide.

what PC case you use exactly?
have you tried to open PC case side door and to retest?
    Hi,
it's open case. If i close it the temps get even worse:(
They get better for other components, but not for gpu. Two Noctua NF-P12's are cooling the case, first one is positioned above gpu, left side next to cpu. Other is right beneath the gpu, right side of case. Just under the hdd section of the case. I tested each and every component with my backup card nv 8500gt. They function within the specified parameters. I'm getting somewhat worried.

  • Q6600 OC Voltage with MSI P45 Neo-F

    Hi Guys,
This is my first post, so bear with me a little!
    First, my system:
    Intel Q6600 G0
MSI P45 Neo-F mobo with 1.9 BIOS (factory installed)
    Thermaltake Soprano case
    8GB Kingston HyperX T1 1066 DDR2 (@ 800)
Changed the 120mm case fans for Thermaltake ISGC 12's
Changed the Stock Cooler for a CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 with an additional BladeMaster 92 fan in a push/pull config.
    Used MX3 thermal paste.
Everything is running fine at stock settings.
I would like to get a bit more juice out of the CPU if I can - The PC is mostly used for work and general internet/mail, but I do game on it and I would like to get as much out of it as I can.
I've done quite a bit reading, and looked at a lot of other posts/forums, but I just can't replicate what others are doing with similar setups.
    My problem is this:
I can get the chip stable at 3200 in Prime95, but only if I ramp the core v up to 1.4850. Most people with the same setup and similar cooling seem to be able to achieve this at a much lower voltage - usually around 1.37v or so.
Can anyone point me to where to start looking for the problem here?
I haven't done a lot of overclocking before and I'd appreciate some advice.
    Thanks,
    SeraphTC

Set the board's OC jumpers into the 266->333 MHz position and clear CMOS after that.  See if the system boots and if it does, try overclocking it from the 333 MHz strap.
I did as you suggested - booting at 266->333 is actually completely stable.  The system boots at 3Ghz and seems fine with no adjustments.  Once I tried to OC though it looks like the same old story - the system isn't stable until we hit 1.4850.
I didn't think it was possible to obtain stable OC by simply increasing the VCore any longer...everything I've read says I should have to play around with other settings....but this system is proving me wrong!!
The problem is, it's not getting stable fast enough for my liking.
I'm happy it's stable with my OC settings - 360x9 FSB, 3.2Ghz, VCore at 1.4850v, RAM at 4-4-4-12 at 864 with 2.1v (The RAM is rated at 2.2v), but I don't like having to feed it so many V's really.
    Any other ideas?

  • Probems with msi 875p neo Fis2r and network controller driver

Hi guys just wondering if anyone could help me with my msi 875p neo FIS2R and problems with the network controller driver/network card.
I'm running xp on a computer my nextdoor neighbour gave me. I got it working fine  with service pack 3 installed but then installed a bunch of windows updates last night and the computer would switch itself off before windows could start. Now I reinstalled xp and unfortunately it does not recognise the network controller/card at all now. I tried installing the intel network controller drivers but it stopped because it said no intel adapter/card was installed/present. Could anyone please help with suggestions? I tried running everest and under newtwork it doesnt list intel network adapters but I'm pretty certain it is. Again any suggestions?

  • Problems with MSI P31 Neo mobo

    Hello all,
I just received my new MSI P31 Neo motherboard today and have spent nearly the whole day trying to get it to work.
My problem is that when you turn the system on about 4/5 times there is no graphics displayed what so ever. When the graphics do come on and you can go through the BIOS it quite often jams. If occasionally you do get past that, when the Windows XP disc starts to load the files for the installer, it Jams and you need to restart, restarting this long process.
My CPU is supposed to be supported, it's a 3.6ghz Intel Pentium 4 chip. I am using 4 x Samsung Original 1024MB DDR2 PC5300 RAM though it only shows 2gb of it in the BIOS. The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 512MB PCI-E.
Can anyone tell me how to get this mobo to work? Things to try? Otherwise I think I will just have to send it back...

    UPDATE:
I tried booting with 2 RAM Chips and it works great! This seemed to be the problem.
The ram IS double sided which would explain it.
If you are wanting some more system specs, just ask and I will try and get the most I can.

If I could run 4gb it would be great but I cannot seem to find the SPD in bios. My BIOS is American Megatrends Inc. v02.61 so it would be great if you could help me with that!
If all else fails I might either just settle with 2GB or buy some new RAM chips. Can anyone please tell me some Ram chips which would be able to give this mobo 4GB?
    Thanks

  • Help with msi 970 gaming

I have a msi 970 gaming, I am having some problems with it, I made a usb bios stick which has now become corrupt, so I got in touch with msi and am still awaiting a reply. I was told to clear the cmos jumper of which I have, I have also taken the battery out for five mins and that hasn't changed anything.
so I am sat with a board that powers up okay but have no video output. anyone willing to help me with some suggestions please I have tried everything from taking my two gtx770 and amd fx6300 and amd phanom ii x4 black edition check all power outputs to the board and cards and hd and dl dvd, so any help would be most appreciated. Dave

The bios update failed and due to not having a backup bios the board is now bricked. You need to rma it as it is beyond things you can try yourself.

  • Clock speed problem with MSI K8M Neo-V

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie on all this tasks of mounting my own PC, so I'm very sorry if my question is stupid and is already answered in the forum (I didn't find it).
    I have the following components:
    - MSI K8M Neo-V
    - 2 SATA HD 160 Gb
    - AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
    - 512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
My problem is that I cannot get my AMD 3200 to run at 3200 Mhz. What I
    only get is:
    - CPU ratio x11
    - CPU FSB clock 210
    - Dynamic overclocking colonel (my BIOS doesn't have general or
    commander, as shown in manual)
That makes a total of 2.31 Mhz, far away from the 3.2 desired.
If I try to change this values to others higher (such as FSB 230), I get a black screen
and I need to reset BIOS.
Please, could you help me solve this situation? I find it really
disturbing to have bought a new AMD 64 3200 with a good motherboard,
and not being able to make it run at the appropiate speed.
Thank you very much in advance.

3.2GHz.  Wow.  I would kill to have an A64 at that speed.  :D

AMD's don't run at the speed they have listed on the CPU, rather that is a performance equivalent number. In this instance your CPU has the equivalent performance of an Intel that runs at 3200Mhz.
Actually I believe the Performance number equivalent to the MHz an AMD Thunderbird would be at, NOT an Intel CPU.

  • Help with MSI K7n2 Delta2 Platinum

    Hi everyone,
I need some help with my system, actually I'm having troubles with my machine, often it restarts or freezes so I have to restart it manually.I own a MSI K7n2 Delta2 Platinum, AMD Athlon XP 3000+, 1 GB DDR-400 CORSAIR, ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB AGP. Recently I did a clean install of Windows XP but usually I work for an hour and suddenly it restarts, and after logging in, Windows reports a log event problem; I think I have this problem because of the drivers, so I would like you to help me. Where I can get the best/last drivers for the mainboard and video card? Should I flash the bios? Is common this kind of problems? Help me please.
    Thanks!

sortieins, please start an new thread and make a complete listing of your compoenents including your PSU and the amps on the various voltage rails, especially the +12V rail(s).
