Help with multi camera editing in Premiere Pro

Ok I'm new...so bear with me.
I am editing a basic interview shot on two cameras and cutting away to some still images.
The rushes are 4 lots of film about 10 mins in length.
I inputted the footage from the two cameras and created a new sequence for each using the multi camera audio synchronisation method (which worked great).
So how do I go about creating my edit? Something tells me I'm going about it in the wrong way.
Do I need to create my edit using single camera shots and then create multi camera sequences for each individual clip? It seems so laborious as its all already synced up for two cameras.
I am a bit confused about creating clips v creating sequences.
I'm sorry if this is making some of you cringe :/ ....but I really can't find any help in online tutorials.
I need basic step by step instruction.

humm, sounds like your 4 lots do not overlap in time, and that there is space between each lot. So would that be 4 multi-camera sequences with the two cameras?
If so, why even multicamera edit that? and just set up to Video tracks, sync the audio and opacity keyframe between the two tracks.
Good to get your multi-camera edit workflow going proper though.
Sounds like you need to multi-camera edit your 4 sequences separately, unless you sync each lot with its corresponding clip and put on the same timeline, then do one sequence and one multi-camera edit

  • Need help with Multi-cam editing in Premiere Pro CC/7.0

I've been using 6.0 for a while now, and had to install 7.0/cc, but now I can't find where to record multi-cam edits.  I've already lined up my clips and created a new sequence and enabled multi-cam, I just don't see the Multi-Cam Editor.  Please help!

    Hey!
I found the record-button in the programm panel. But now it won't let me hit record. The button is disabled (see screenshot).
What can I do about it?
If I just hit play and then change the angles in the source window, Premiere won't record those edits. Only thing it does is it keeps the whole clip in this one angle.

  • PLEASE help with multi-cam edit issue (head about to explode...)

PLEASE believe me when I say I've watched 20 YouTube videos on the subject, read the manual, reinstalled FCS on a new machine (in the event that the install or my last MBP was at fault), etc., etc....
JUST can't get FCP to make the cuts for me when I click on the angles in the viewer.
Despite making a multi-clip, open synch, green/blue boarder for audio/video angle and blue boxes for video only, rendering, etc., the same thing always happens...
When I hit the space-bar, making all the angles play @ same time in the browser, and then I click on an angle to make a real-time cut, the in-point of the selected angle pops onto the canvas (a still frame) and everything STOPS.
Happy to describe any other details; can begin to tell you how stoked I'll be if I can get past this...
(I've been reduced to trying to use iMovie to cut this 3 angle live-music performance video, which is taking HOURS for a single song...with terrible results...)
    :-/

    Starting over:
    1) Import 3 .dv clips (all same frame size, vid rate, compression, etc.)
    2) Create new bin for footage, assign angle numbers to clips
    2) Add in-point for synchronization
    3) Make multiclip (and synch in-points)
    4) Double-click on multiclip (and it then shows in viewer)
    5) Press "overwrite" to bring multiclip into timeline
    6) Open playhead sync
    7) Assign blue and green 'boxes' in viewer (audio/video, and video only)
    8) Click into timeline, make sure playhead is to the front of the sequence
    9) hit space bar to start editing.
    10) NOW, whenever I click on an angle in the viewer to make an edit, playback stops and a still frame for the selected angle shows in the canvas.
    ANY THOUGHTS??

  • Poor multi-camera performance in Premiere Pro CS6

I've been trying to edit my camera footage using multi-camera window and the playback is extremely choppy and slow in the viewer, so I pretty much cannot use it. Any ideas? Are there certain settings I can tweak?
I did a search and it seems like the CPU/GPU would be the bottlenecks but I believe my machine is pretty good: i7 2700k with SATA III SSD, GTX 480 and 16GB of RAM.
Thank you in advance for your help.

What driver are you on for your GTX 480?
I'm aware of a number of things that have been reported as causing choppy playback
Playback Resolution and Paused Resolution being set to full. If that's the case, try  dialing back to 1/2 or even 1/4.
A high number of layers. How many are in your multicam sequence? Also, do you have any cases of a sequence containing a nested sequence that in turn contains a nested sequence?
The type of video--some are more resource intensive to decode than othters. What kind are you working with (codec and wrapper)?
    Using multiple graphics cards
Effects. Which ones are you using, if any?
A slow hard drive, or using an external without a fast enough interface. (from the info you provided, that doesn't sound like a likely culprit)
It might be worth downloading the trial of Premiere Pro CC to see if performance is better in the new version. I'm not trying to sell you on subscribing to Creative Cloud. It would just be good to know if you find better performance in CC.

  • Novice needs help with multi-cam

Hi, I've got 3 cameras and a seperate audio track synched in my timeline. (CC Premiere Pro 6 on a PC with - unfortunately, Windows 8) The cameras didn't all start at the same time but no problem the clips are where they need to be now. I've made several edits getting rid of stuff I don't need, and I've added a title, end note, and a few stills. All the tutorials I've watched deal with starting clips at the beginning but I can't seem to find one that shows what to do with a bunch of things already in the timeline where they need to be. Here's a screen shot if that helps to explain what I've done so far.I've tried nesting the clips and dragging that into the source panel, but no luck. Obviously, I'm missing something here (this is my very first project) hope someone can help.

    Yes, what Jim said...
or if you really want to leave all your little stills and titles there and not have to add them later then alt+select all the video clips only and right click>nest. You can select all the audio clips too but I usually leave them there so I can see them all individually (personal preference) and I never have audio follow video in my edits so it's not necessary. Then right click>Multicam>Enable and proceed with #3 from Jim's list. I actually prefer to ignore the wrench and add that one touch little multicam toggle icon to the program monitor which it appears you've already done so you just need to select the far right icon on the bottom of your program window next to the little camera icon. That's the multicam toggle. Multicam cutting now takes place in the Program Window instead of the Source Window like it was in CS6. Oh also, the little "tweaks" that Jim mentioned can be easily done with the Rolling Edit Tool (Shortcut: N) You'll see. Good luck!

  • Multi Camera Editing with Matrox CODEC ( VS4 ) Card

    Hello All.
    Setup
I am recording 4 inputs from the Matrox VS4 via Wirecast 4.2 and also tried 5.0
    - 1080i @ 100Mbps
    - All the video footage play perfectly with no problems what so ever
    - I Have installed the Matrox VFW Software Codecs of a system which DOES NOT have the VS4 card
    - I can edit 1 video with NO PROBLEM.
    Problem
    - Using Adobe Premiere 7.1 CC with multi camera editing, the footage is jittery after a few seconds.
    - Using Adobe Premiere CS 6.0 with multi camera editing, the footage is jittery after a few seconds.
    - I have tried with 2 cameras up to 4 cameras and I get the same problem.#
    Other Test
    - I have tried 12 x videos which are MP4 in multi camera editing with NO PROBLEMS!!!
    - I am using 4 x 128GB SSD in RAID 0 ( 1450 MB/s) - Through put is not an issue.
    - I have also reduced the MB/s on the ISO capture of 50MB/s
This is the CODEC you need to have installed on your computer in order to edit the view/edit the videos recorded by the Matrox VS4:
    http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/windows/vfw_software_codecs/downloads/softwares/ver sion1.0/
The Matrox Video for Windows (VFW) software codecs let you render and play back Matrox .avi files in your VFW programs without having Matrox video hardware installed. This version provides codecs that were previously available only on systems that have particular Matrox video hardware, such as Matrox Axio. This includes the Matrox DVCPRO HD codec, and "+ Alpha" versions of the Matrox uncompressed and MPEG-2 I-frame codecs. As well, the Matrox VFW MPEG-2 I-frame HD codec now lets you render and play back Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame .avi files in all HD formats (720p, 1440x1080i/p, and full-size 1080i/p).
The following VFW software codecs are provided for use on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems:
    Matrox DV/DVCAM
    Matrox DVCPRO
    Matrox DVCPRO50
    Matrox DVCPRO HD
Matrox MPEG-2 I-frame in SD and HD resolutions, with or without alpha
Matrox Uncompressed in SD and HD resolutions, with or without alpha
    Matrox Offline HD
Matrox M-JPEG and HDV (playback only)
Is this an issue that is present the Premier 7.1 CC or the CODEC or even both?
    Thank you all.

  • Need help with HD Multi-cam editing...

So it is my understanding that you can't view a multi-cam sequence unless the footage you are viewing is unrendered/unlimited...
So my question is... how do I take rendered footage and de-render it so its unlimited... I tried adding an effect but even color corrector just makes the footage go from rendered to "needs render" which is no good.
For those who understand multi-cam editing better... could you provide some pointers. Thanks!

    nvm i figured it out.

  • Audio targeting in Multi Camera edits Premiere 5.5

I am editing 6 days worth of a 3 camera multi camera set up from a seminar I shot last month. I am using Premiere Pro 5.5.
I shot the class with the speaker mic'ed with 2 wireless lapel mics: one mic going into Cam 3 left channel, and one going into Cam 2 right channel; the open channel on both catching ambient audio via camera mics. The thought here was I would have some redundancy in the event one mic popped out due to battery issues, or interference, and still have an audio channel to sync to with PluralEyes.
Camera 1 was a wide shot of the front of room, and had 4 choir mics directed at the audience (to pick up questions and such) and one shotgun focusing on the front where the speaker stood (again, for redundancy) running into a mixer, and then into Cam 1 right and left channels.
In Premiere, I line up all the video shots with PluralEyes (or manually) and then nest that sequence into a new multi cam sequence and begin editing.
When nesting the video and audio into a new sequence and turning multicamera editing on, I get the one track of nested video, and the one track of audio.
My issue is how to get the cleaner audio of the instructor, which is on either CAM 2 or 3 (with the lapel mics), onto the track of CAM 1, which is the only track I am able to hear when doing multi cam edits. If I simply copy the instructor audio onto track 1 in the 'source' sequence,  I lose the audience replies and sound. But I don't know how to mix other channels onto the main track of the parent sequence (source).
I have worked around this by copying the audio from track 2 or 3 onto track 1 in the original (not nested) sequence and that has worked and I could keep on editing. But now, I need to do a group discussion portion, and need the audio from track 1 as well as the others and I am not sure how to mix them into the main audio track that the multicam process requires.
I hope I am clear in my explanation. In essence, how do you get a mix of tracks to show up onto track 1, the only audio track that seems to be able to be read by the multicam feature in Premiere 5.5?
    Many thanks!!
    Mark

Since I didn't want to ask a stupid question, I have been trying to do what
you suggested below, but I am not meeting with success (which means I am
    doing it wrong :o)
I have made my edits in the multi Camera sequence I created and used the
Multi Cam "enabled" setting (labeled this sequence "Multi"), and then
placed the original multiple camera and tracks sequence (labeled
'source' which was first lined up and synced) into the video 2 track in the
    multi cam sequence.
So now I have 2 tracks of the original "Source" sequence in the "multi"
sequence: one cut into shots and one uncut from the original sequence.
But, only the audio is coming in from the first track, even though the
tracks are all activated in the original sequence (nothing muted).
I know I am close, but not sure what I am doing wrong, and the audio from
the tracks is important for the final product.
    Thanks again!

  • Multi-cam edit issues with multiple DSLR clips

    Hello,
Working in CC. I have 2 camera angles that were filmed with 2 DSLRs, and mic'd audio that was recorded into a Zoom H4N. Audio recording never stopped, but due to the nature of DSLRs, the 2 cameras would stop recording every 12 +/- minutes. In this end, I have:
    Camera 1 - 16 clips
    Camera 2 - 17 clips
    Zoom H4N - 1 track
When using the multi-cam source sequence option, it understandably thinks each clip is a new camera/angle. However, that's not very helpful for me when I have 17 angles (15 of which are blank) showing up in the program monitor. Any suggestions on how to better tackle this dilemma?
    Thank You.

Thanks, Mark. Appreciate the quick response. After messing around, I combined your method with PluralEyes (seemed less tedious that syncing 17 clips manually). There might be a faster/easier way, but this is what I did, in case any one is curious (sounds more tedious than it actual is):
    1. Select cam 1 clip 1, cam 2 clip 1 and external audio in the Browser.
    2. Left-click, "create Multi-Camera Source Sequence." Two angles and audio are now in a multi-cam sequence. Rename as Multicam_Source_Sequence
    3. Create new sequence, called Sequence_01 and open in timeline.
    3. Excluding cam 1 clip 1 and cam 2 clip 1, drag all remaining clips of cam 1 to V1, all remaining cam 2 clips to V2, and single external audio to A3 into Sequence_01 timeline.
    4. Launch Sequence_01 into PluralEyes 3. Sync and Export.
    5. Open PluralEyes' "Sequence_01_synced" (not "Sequence_01_synced Replaced") in timeline.
    6. Find a good marker point toward the beginning of the audio where it has synced cam 1 clip 2 and cam 2 clip 2. Cut at that point.
    7. Copy all video tracks (exclude audio tracks).
    8. Find Multicam_Source_Sequence and open in timeline (un-nested, so that all tracks are revealed).
    9. Manually find the same audio marker point where you cut in Sequence_01_synced. Place playhead directly at cut point.
    10. Paste video clips. All tracks are now synced in a multi-cam sequence.
From here, it's the usual steps for preparing multi-cam editing, like you mentioned.
    11. Create new sequence, called Multicam_Working_Sequence. Open in timeline.
    12. Make sure nesting button is turned on in timeline.
    13. Drag Multicam_Source_Sequence into Multicam_Working_Sequence.
    14. Right-click the nested sequence>Multi-Camera>Enable.
    15. Enable Multi-camera view in Program Monitor's panel menu.
Voila! Took me awhile, but this works. And no 17 angles popping up in the program monitor. Let me know if you'd add (or remove) anything. Thanks, again!

  • Multi-Camera edits not applied

Hi and thanx in advance for your help.
Premiere Pro CS5. Windows 7 Pro 16 GB RAM lots of disk space.  Premiere It is patched with all patches except the latest Facebook synch patch.  This started a month ago.  It may be related to the number of Timelines in a project.  On my last project I started having this problem after about 10 Timelines were created in the project (a multi-song music video shoot).  In my current project (a 6 hour talking head seminar) I now have about 10 Timelines and it started doing it again so that may be a related issue.
I am doing a four camera shoot.  I create a base timeline with all four cameras for each speaker.  I then use that speaker's base timeline to create a multi-camera edit timeline that I edit with the Multi-Camera Monitor window editing function.  If I stop to make an immediate correction or to take a break, I restart by clicking the timeline window to make it the active window and opening the Multi-camera Monitor editing window and start editing.  I'll go 10 or 15 minutes and stop only to find none of the edits are applied,  The edits are exactly as they were before I started back up.  Once I get about 10 timelines or so I begin to see this behaviour. This behaviour is inconsistent and there is no way to know if the edits will be applied until I stop.
I could try breaking up the project but each individual speaker's timeline is pulled from the primary timeline that contains all the speakers.  (I copy the synched multi camera tracks and paste them into a new timeline for each speaker.)
Does ayone know what causes this?
    Or how to fix it?
    Again Thanx in advance,
    mel

  • Multi-Camera Editing

    Primiere Pro CS4 Creative Suite
Hi, Thanx in advance for your help.
We did a multi-camera shoot of a band.  We ran through the set twice with 4 cameras, thats a total of 8 tracks.  The 2nd run through for the stationary camera on the drummer can be dropped to reduce the count to 7.   Hopefully the timing on the first and second set will the same.  It should be close as these guys are tight.
I'm hoping some seasoned Premiere user can give me some pointers on how to best do a 7 camera Multi-Camera edit.
I was thinking I would do each 4 camera shoot as a multi-camera edit and then, assuming they synch, take the output from each set and do them as a two "camera" multi-camera edit.
    Is there a better way?
Of course, if the don't synch...I try not to think about that.
    Thanx,
    Mel

Assuming all cameras were on continuous roll nd therefore in synch.....I think I would aproach it like this:
The band and the director probably know which of the two performances (takes) were the best.
That one I would edit multicam.
Then I would look at each of the rolls from the other take and cherry pick the shots.
An NLE, like PPRO ,can work a bit like a vision switcher  in the sense (and I am sure you know this) that the Upper Track is dominant over under lying tracks.  You can use this to your advantage as you cherry pick your other takes.  eg find a section you might like to use then toggle the track on/off to see where it fits into the multicam edited sequence.

  • Problem with Multi-camera function

    Hi!
I have three camera angles - I put them each on different stage but since one guy had a problem and had to stop recording the whole thing got a little messy and I had to divide audio and video tracks to compensate with audio, however two of my tracks are now splitted in two (with blank space inside) and if I use group function - "Set clip marker" is no longer working and I cannot synchronize the video and prepare it for multi-camera editing.
I hope you understand what I mean and thanks in advance for any advise!
    Thanks :)

    Colin,
I did a multi camera edit of Act 1 of a taped performance and all went well. Moved on to Act 2, which ran longer and each camera needed a tape change. So I matched the clips from each camera on each video track and tried to move on to the sync & then create a multi camera sequence stage of the project. That's when I hit a road block. I could not sync the four video tracks. So I consulted Adobe's on line help and this was all I could find about my predicament:
Note: Adobe Premiere Pro uses an overlay edit when  synchronizing clips. Take care not to overwrite adjacent clips if you have  multiple clips on the same track.
So what was I to do next? I found your post and now know exactly what to do. Thanks for a great explaination and saving me a lot of head scratching.
Why couldn't Adobe explain it as well?
    Thanks,
    Angelo

  • I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function works

I can edit on Premiere Pro 6 files, but after a dozen keystrokes, the space bar and cursor keys stop working while the save function, render workspace function, export file are still operational. How can I fix it so I may complete my assignment?
Besides DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite 6 is the only software on the machine. I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Operating System on AMD FX 6100 six-Core Processor at 3.31gHz and 32 GB RAM memory. There are two SLI-bridged GTX680 NVidia cards.
The software was very stable for the last six months, working with 720P proxy files from 2.5K masters (Blackmagic Design Camera). I am working on a feature-length project that exceeds 1000 edits. I have broken the file into 2 one hour segments.
I have deactivated the software before reinstalling the entire OS from scratch. PP6 was very stable for 48 hours. Then the freezing space bar returns. After a dozen strokes into the project, same problem.  I have made cache files store next to originals, I have deleted preview files if they were corrupted and causing instability. Am I missing something?
I have Microsoft Security Essentials for virus protection. I double checked the memory for damage/defect. Nothing says that the motherboard or other components are damaged.
I am in film competition overseas and need to have deliverables in less than a month's time.  I lost the last two weeks troubleshooting and this crisis came at an inopportune moment of the project.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Still getting software freezes but found a way to mitigate for the mean time.
Upon launching Adobe Premiere Pro, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to launch TaskManager as well.
You will want to highlight Adobe QT32 Server.exe
Right click and select "End Process Tree"
You will get considerable stability in the program, long enough to get timing of cuts done. Be sure to save often.
If the program freezes, do not hit Save. You definitely want to avoid saving the corruption into your TimeLine
CTRL-ALT-DEL to relaunch the TaskManager and highlight Adobe Premiere Pro.exe
    Right-click to "End Process"
No need to reboot the whole system; just launch Premiere Pro again and continue with the session. Note that your work reverted to Last Save.
Hope this helps until the bug is fixed.
