Help with Multiple libraries and one storage location for files

I cannot get an answer to this question anywhere and was really hoping that The [H] would be able to help.
Here is my current set up that allows my wife and I to have completely independent libraries and ratings, but use the same files:
-Shared folder with MP3s on a network drive.
-Two PCs, each with it's own Ipod associated to it with individual libraries but all pointing to the same network share for MP3 Files.
-Each PC is using the SAME Itunes account for downloads.
-Each account has it's own library folder also on a network share.
Now to my question(s)/problem with downloaded content:
(1) Is there any way to have a file that is downloaded from Itunes be automatically placed in a shared location accessible to both Libraries? (Say if I download the latest Jack Johnson album, can it automatically show up in my wife's library and vice versa?)
(2) Is there any way to share the album artwork versus having two copies of everything(one for each library)?
So my goal is to have two libraries with a central location for ALL files, including anything downloaded from Itunes by each individual user. Is this possible?

Assuming that your son will still be sharing your wife's Apple ID (he is too young to have one of his own) .... When you set up his iPad, restore the iPad from your wife's backup and then select only the content that you want your son to have on his iPad in the iTunes library and then sync that iPad with iTunes.
The game progress is stored in the backup and should transfer onto his device when you restore from your wife's backup. You can always delete any content (apps, movies, music) that you don't want your son to have on the iPad, if you missed it when you synced with iTunes after setting the device up for him.
You can set your sync preferences - any way that you want to - for both devices and still use the same iTunes library for both iPads. So ... Yes you can sync any apps that you want to his iPad and any apps that your wife wants to her iPad. You just need to restore your son's iPad from your wife's backup in order to get his game progress onto his iPad.

I am sure this has been asked before but i apologize as I am new at all this.
This is my issue...
In April I bought my wife and iPad 2 signed up for an ID and started downloading apps..no problems at all so far.
Within a month we had downloaded a bunch of apps for my 4 yr old.
I bought another iPad 2 for my 4 yr old so he can use on his own. This is the issue, in my wives iPad we downloaded some paid apps and some free ones, some of them are games that have been advancing as he is playing them...my wife has also downloaded some paid games that she has been playing.
So here is my dilema, can I sync my wifes iPad with iTunes and then move the apps that I want to my sons iPad?
Also, will the move also include where he left off in the app...for example if this is like a building a zoo type of game and he has half of it built...will the move include his progress or will it make him start from the begining of the game?
i dont want to use the same apps in two different iPads, i just want to transfer his to a new one and leave my wifes in her ipad.

Material with different concentration in one storage location

We are working in a chemical industry that make caustic soda they are selling two material of caustic soda with two different concentrations (33% and 50%). Problem is that they move caustic 33% (one material) in to one storage location at the same time the move caustic 50%(second material) in the same material tank. In this way the concentrations of caustic change say 45%. If they want to increase the concentration they move caustics with greater concentration to make this stock to 50%. How to handle this situation. Every time the move these two materials in a same tank materials concentration changes.

2. How is the material transferred to the tank? Is it through manual 311 movement?

Need help with many devices and one itunes account!!

I recently purchased each of my kids an Ipod Touch. They all three are now using my Itunes account which has become a little bit of a problem. The biggest issue now is with iMessage. When a friend send a text message or tries to Facetime one of the kids, we all get the message. They are all using my itunes account user name and password, for apps, music, etc....
What's the best way to seperate the three devices so they aren't all getting the same text messages? Also, is it best to set up their own user accounts to sync their ipods with itunes?

If you want to use only one AppleID account for multiple devices but seperate imessage, you will have to use different email address to differentiate the device.
I would assume all your devices' imessage are setup under your AppleID email address.
First go to your kid Device's SETTINGS/MESSAGE/RECEIVE AT, Add another email address, type in email address of your kid(you will be asked to enter your Appleid password). Once done, an email from Apple will be sent to this new email address to verify. When your kid receive this email, click "Verify Now" link. The new email address now is ready for imessage.
Now go back to the same Device SETTINGS/MESSAGE/RECEIVE AT, go into your original email(your AppleID email) and tap "remove this email". This will prevent your own imessage to appear on this device.
Do the same for all other devices for other kids.
You don't need to change anything for your own device.
That mean everyone will have an indepedent imessage based on their own email address.

Can you use wifi sync with multiple libraries and multiple devices

Hi all
Does anyone know if you can use wifi sync with 1 computer, 2 libraries and 2 devices?
I have my wife's iPhone synced to 1 library and mine to another library but on the same computer. Will wifi sync work this way or do you need iTunes to be open to the correct library for it to work? As I know you can't have 2 instances of itunes open on the same computer.

I have been looking more and more into this and it appears no.
You need to have iTunes running on the computer to enable it to wifi sync. You can use 2 devices on 1 library but if you don't have all the right options ticked you will then end up with each others stuff on each others device.
To enable wifi sync you need to have your iDevice connected to the same wifi network as your computer and iTunes open on that computer.
With my library open it detected my wife's phone and started to sync. Hasty push of cancel sync button lol.
There is a guide on here somewhere about multiple devices with 1 library which I can't find at the moment that tells you which options to tick so only your stuff stays on your device the the other half's on their device.
Its basically tick 'sync only ticked songs and videos' under summary of your device
Under apps take tick out of 'automatically sync new apps'
Then under edit->preferences click device and click prevent i's from syncing automatically
I think you should then be able to sync both devices to 1 library with mucking them up too much
Hopefully please correct me if I'm wrong
I have tried not doing the last step and asking it to open itunes automatically when phone is connected but this does not work with wifi sync

Installation with multiple as and one DB (no cluster)

Hi, I'm trying to setup a production environment with three Jboss AS non-clustered and one MSSQL database. I've made the installation on each AS and for each AS I've executed all the steps of the Configuration Manager.
Now I have some problems about the three AS line up; when I modify an user password on one AS the other don't see this modification. Moreover, some common features works such as the policy definition; for example, when I create a policy on the first AS the others can see this policy.

Multiple, non-clustered LiveCycle instances against a single database is neither tested, nor supported. For each instance, you'd need a separate database (with multiple sets of tables, views and sequences). All changes have to be repeated for every instance you have.

What you are attempting is a deployment architecture the author of this whitepaper calls "Server Load Balancing" (see page 11).
You might be better off clustering the three instances.

Need help with multiple devices and apple id

Between my husband and myself, we have two Iphones, two Ipads, and one Imac. I back all of them up on my Imac using ONE iTunes account....we prefer not use Icloud, and I think that helps keep the information on each device relatively separate from each other...no overlaps with contacts and calendars. We have one APPLE id and password, that we use for Itunes and the App Store. We just got the Iphone 6 for my husband, and it keeps asking him to enter his Icloud PW.(his recognized user name is his PRIMARY email address)...which presumably he does not have, nor does he need (or maybe he does I need some real guidance on that). To keep this from making him crazy can I just delete his Icloud account, which again presumably, was created automatically with the new Iphone 6 set up??
Similarly, I need to use FIND my Phone (etc), and HIS devices are not in MY listed devices....is this because he NEEDS his own APPLE ID, or is there a way to add his devices to my list of devices within the APP....I thought because we share the Itunes account they should all be in MY devices.
Can someone help me make sense of this?

I understand that you are not seeing your husbands new iPhone 6 in your Find My iPhone app. First, while you may "prefer not use iCloud", you are using it, at least in regards to Find My iPhone for your existing devices.
Now, for your husband's phone and Find My iPhone. It sounds like during the setup of his phone, he logged in to his Apple ID and even possibly created another iCloud account. In order to see his phone on your existing Find My iPhone, it will have to log in to the iCloud account where the other devices are signed in. Take a look at this article on troubleshooting Find My iPhone, especially the first section on the device not appearing.

Help using multiple computers and one shared external drive

I just "bought" the new LR / PS combo special. I have 3 computers, 2 PC's in seperate cities and a laptop that I use on the road. I would like to use an external hard drive as the main drive. This way I could take the drive with me.
2 Questions....First I tried to learn the basics using the internal hard drive on PC#2. I then set up a external drive with multiple folders but within one main folder. I then started importing to the external drive using PC#2 (which is at my vacation property). Everything went smooth until I tried to import from that external drive, It does not open that catalog. I am saving them as digital negatives.
Question #2 which I have not tried yet is PC#1 which is my main home computer does not have LR. I have years of photos in hundreds of files sorted in bridge that have to be renamed and put on the hard drive. It does not have the latest version of PS and I have lots of money invested in plug ins. How can I get lightroom on that computer and will it talk to what I believe is the prior version of photoshop. I don't even want to think about all the plug ins.
It's pretty clear that I am lost. I was going to continue using bridge and PS but there is no bridge on the new version, at least not on the $9.99 special. From what I've seen, LR is the way to go.

How can I convert a track with multiple comps to one new complet audio file

I have one track that is great - but it is composed of different sections (NOT regions) which are different comps from punching in on different regions -- (you can see the divisions between the comps, and each different comp has its comp number (or name) - but these are NOT region divisions). I would like to make the whole track one new audio file to work with - that is, join all the comps together as one new audio file (as you would join separate regions on a track into one new audio file). All I can think of is to unpack the track (comps) onto different tracks (channel strips) which would make each comp a new region on a new track and then paste them back together and then make an audio file, but this seems fairly complicated

hey - it appears that this worked -- i exported it to another track (as an audio file -- this is done in the "file" menu) and it now is on a new track in t he same project as one audio file without an divisions between the comps -- appears to have worked -thank you so much (btw, don't forget to tell it what type of file you want it exported as, it wants to default to aif, --i record in wav files 24 bit

Help with multiple libraries: 1 local, 1 Airdisk

(Note: I posted this on the iTunes board, but I think it has more to do with my Airport Extreme / hard drive setup. It used to work when the library was a USB external drive attached directly. Now that it's on Airport, not so much.)
I have a new 802.11N AirPort Extreme, to which I have connected a LaCie 500GB HD/USB hub. I have a 100GB library of music on this hard drive. The hard drive is an AirPort Disk through the AirPort Extreme.
I used the iTunes consolidate libary option to locate my music files to this AirPort Disk. In the folder just above the music files, I've placed the Album Artwork folder, the iTunes library .xml file, and the library .itl file. To establish this library, I held down OPTION while clicking on iTunes in my dock, then selected this Airport Disk library to open. This worked just fine.
However, I would like to manage a separate local library on my MacBook Pro's hard drive to keep music to listen to at work and my podcasts, etc. In the past, I was able to use the multiple library option to do this when I had my music on an external USB drive (not via Airport). I could select one or the other library, and iTunes would remember the location in Preferences > Advanced. I could switch libraries back and forth often, and iTunes would remember the library location.
This isn't the case anymore. When I establish iTunes to use the Airport Disk library, it works fine. When I try to switch to a local library, it still keeps the AirPort Disk location in Preferences. If I change it to local, then switch back to the Airport library, it keeps the local address in Preferences. Switching it back at that point requires a lengthy process where iTunes has to reindex the file locations presumably.
Please help! This was totally unexpected. Being able to manage a local library is important to me (there are differences between the two, particularly podcasts--that I don't care to have in my "master" library on the Airport Disk).

Multiple Libraries and Music Folder Locations

I'm stumped.
I keep three libraries on my MacBook Pro. The folder structure for where the library and xml files live is basically:
~\Music\iTunes\ATV
~\Music\iTunes\Pete
~\Music\iTunes\Jen
Each library is associated with its own Music Folder, on an external hard drive, like so:
External\Contents\Main
External\Contents\PJP
External\Contents\JLP
I have iTunes manage the music files, keep things organized, and copy songs into the Music Folder.
When I open the "Pete" library, for example (by holding down Option when I click on iTunes in the Dock), it opens fine. I do what I need to do there, and quit iTunes. Now, somewhat suddenly, when I open the "Jen" library next (again by holding down Option while launching iTunes to select that library file), the location of the Music Folder in Preferences->Advanced has been changed to the location of the last library's Music Folder. In other words, the library should be pointing to \Contents\JLP, but instead is pointing to \Contents\PJP.
I can change the location of the Music Folder (a fairly long process), but the next time I open up a different library, the Music Folder location is similarly incorrect.
I imagine I'm just tired and overlooking a fairly easy fix/cause of this behavior, but it escapes me and I'll be grateful for your help.

I have noticed this happen when the computer temporarily loses a link to the external drive it reverts to the locally stored music folder but reverts to the external drive when it is available again. Don't know if a similar issue is what is happening here if so it may be something to do with the refresh rate at which your computer communicates with the external drive.

Help with Multiple VLANS and IP Phone Setup.

Although i have a 3com, I have a cisco IP Phone. I have the IP Phone connected to the 3com swithport using a hybrid port. It's a tagged member of vlan3 (voice net) and an untagged member of vlan1(native data)
The ip phone gets the right DHCP address for vlan3 ( 10.x.x.x ) but the laptop connected to the ip phone gets the IP for vlan 3 as well.
I want the laptop to get the IP of the native vlan ( 192.168.x.x)
what would the port setup need to be ? does it need to be a trunk ? i have the PVID of the port set to vlan3, this allows the IP phone to get its vlan3 DHCP address.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
The 3com OS is very similar to the latest of CISCO IOS'.
so explain wtih syntax and i'm sure the 3com can relate.

Based on your description of a 'Hybrid Port' this sounds like Cisco's 'Multi-VLAN Port' that was a feature of the 2900XL/3500XL series switches. This feature has however long since gone......
With a Cisco switch an access port supporting an Access VLAN & a Voice VLAN is effectively a Trunk with only one Tagged VLAN and the Native VLAN:
interface FastEthernet0/1
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 10
switchport voice vlan 100
This results in the same configuration as:
interface FastEthernet0/1
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk native vlan 10
switchport trunk allowed vlan 100
With the exception of CDP packets being sent advertising the Voice VLAN.
With regards to other IP Phone vendors and DHCP Vendor Options - the answer is it depends....
Nortel use Vendor Option 144 to inform the IP Phone of the Voice VLAN and Option 128 for the Server (PBX) to use. Ericsson uses Vendor Option 43 that can be configured to tell the IP Phone the VLAN and the Web server to read the config file from.
I don't think you will get this working automatically with your 3Com switches, you can however manually configure the VLAN on the Cisco IP Phones.

Help with multiple recordsets and pulling an ID value (ASP)

I started this discussion when first developing my project and posted on the General Tab. I have figured out that issue (trying to get my Insert to work in ASP) but now am having trouble retrieving an ID value. It should be simple. I want to insert a new record into a single table and want to create a unique ID field. I am using SQL Server and tried the Identity setting but won't be able to have admin privileges which are required to set the ID. So, I'd like to just take the ID value from the last record and just add '1' to it to get a new unique ID manually. My INSERT portion was working, so I just decided to query the records to retrieve the last CatalogID and add '1' to get my new ID. But it's not working! I tried opening both a command and a recordset, but get various errors on invalid command use.
Any help would be great! I'm new to all of this!

Ok, you've got lots of problems. First, explain again why you are not able to modify the CatologID to be an identity column? What is the datatype of that column now?
Next, you are going about selecting your recordset incorrectly. If you are just looking for the last value inserted, there is no need to return all values to the recordset. Just select the max value:

Next, you have a typo in your insert statement "“INSET INTO" should be "INSERT INTO"
Next, your CommandText is wrong. There is no ending quote, and NextCatalogID will be treated as a string literal, not a variable. Use a ? placeholder for it and use the CreateParameter method to populate it.
Next, your command text includes 4 placeholder, but you are only populating 2.
But even when you get this to work it will be problematic. What happens when 2 users execute this at the same time? They both read the same value for the max record and increment by one, but the first will succeed and the second will fail. That's why it is always better to use an auto increment (Identity) column.

Help with multiple iPhones and Apple ID!

I have my iPhone 5S and my iPad Mini hooked up to my Apple ID. I recently gave my friend my old iPhone 4 for his birthday and it is also using my Apple ID. Whenever he changes/deletes the contacts in his phone, it changes mine. Is there any way to stop this but still allowing him to keep using my Apple ID?

No, not unless one of you stops syncing contacts with iCloud. When you share an iCloud account, all devices see the same data and any actions taken on one device is mirrored on all the others.
