HELP with new monitor purchase.

I know, I hate "surveys" too. I'm thinking of attacking my color and dark printing issues w\LR and CS4, by investing in a new monitor. I currently have an 20' early edition Apple Cinema Display. The monitor is the last hardware (software) item in my current upgrade cycle. From those folks who are NOT having color or print problems, what displays are you using (or would recommend)? Ah, and price is an issue. Apologies in advance to those who think this is not appropriate use of the Forum. And sorry, I did post this in the Camera Raw section, but there is a different cast of characters here.

If you are looking for a monitor that has execellant color profiling ability, cost should not be a priorty. There are good monitors out there for general use. If you are serious about color management you need to spend more then the usual amount, for a monitor from the likes of NEC, Ezio, or Phillips.

  • Need Help With New Adobe Purchase

I purchased Adobe Pro XI from Best Buy, but my computer does not have a CD drive. The technician told me that I could download it from Adobe and just enter the activation key. But I don't see where to do that. Please help.
    Thank you.

It depends what you mean by "Adobe Pro XI". You should be able to go to the product page via picking it from the page linked below.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog.html?promoid=KAWQI
If you cannot find the product there, identify the product in your next response and the options avialable can be better identified.  One of those options would be to recommend you try to use a different browser.

You will need to contact the movie studio that produced the DVD and ask if they can issue you a new code valid for Canada. Apple cannot help you, and everyone here in these forums is just a fellow user.

  • Mac Pro (Early 2008) failing with new monitor

    Hi All,
I am having a strange problem with my Mac Pro and new display (ViewSonic VX2703MH-LED 27-Inch LED-Lit LCD Monitor). I first noticed some strangeness when I attempted to temporarily run the maching on a new Samsung HDTV that doubles as a computer monitor. I am using a Mini-DV to HDMI adapter, which worked great on two Samsung monitors I'd previously purchased. Anyway, I returned those because I needed ones with standard VESA mounts. So when I plug any of the new monitors in, I am getting some very unstable behavior. Sometimes the mac won't even start up, not even in safe mode. I was able to check all of my disks and zap the P-RAM, and all seems OK, yet every time I am able to startup and login successfully, it crashes after a short while after the display starts acting up. Horizontal and vertical lines come through and all of the color gets messed up. Sometimes my startup screen looks like this:
I found a table on apple.com that shows which Mac models can use Mini DVI --> HDMI adapters, but it is incomplete - it doesn't mention the Mac Pro from early 2008 at all. I was going to install Mavericks, hoping that might help, but I couldn't burn a bootable DVD copy of Lion because it is a tad too large for a DVD, even though I've read on several sites that this is possible! I am scared to blindly do the upgrade, because I am pretty sure this is some kind of hardware issue. Anyone have any experience with this? I don't think it can be just the Viewsonic monitor because I had similar troubles on the Samsung TV...however the previous Samsung monitors are not here to test. Any insight appreciated!

RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

  • HOW DO YOU GUYS DEAL WITH APPLE.. SO CONFUSING...NEED HELP WITH SPECS FOR PURCHASE OF IMAC 21.5

Hi guys, been reading your forums, blogposts, etc and am getting more confused.  I'm just a video girl trying to produce meaningful content through web videos for small to mid sized businesses and want to come over from the dark side.
Good news,, I dont need a super giant system,  I do simple editing for web videos, minimal graphics, no motion graphics, no animation etc. currently using CS4, will probably end up with 5.5.
I want to get imac 21.5 or 27 if i have to..  So here's the question we all have,,, what do I really need besides an Apple fairy godmother to figure this crazy stuff out?????
I want to be able to have firewire add on, but the rest is what I need help with.   So i've been looking at cs6 specs, even though im not there yet, eventually will be,, so just need to run cs4 now and build from there.  I also want to eventually move to final cut down the road so I want imac able to upgrade to final cut.
WHAT DO I REALLY NEED MINIMALLY FOR NOW?  WHAT CAN I GET LATER IF i CHOOSE TO DO MORE AND NEED MORE POWER?
    cs6:
Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support
    Mac OS X v10.6.8, v10.7, or v10.8**
    4GB of RAM (8GB recommended)
4GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices)
Additional disk space required for preview files and other working files (10GB recommended)
    1280x900 display
7200 RPM hard drive (multiple fast disk drives, preferably RAID 0 configured, recommended)
    OpenGL 2.0–capable system
DVD-ROM drive compatible with dual-layer DVDs (SuperDrive for burning DVDs; Blu-ray burner for creating Blu-ray Disc media)
QuickTime 7.6.6 software required for QuickTime features
Optional: Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU-accelerated performance
Any responses would be great.  I know you guys are busy answering the really high end tech questions

All the current iMac models (both 21.5" and 27" with OS X Mt. Lion 10.8) will run CS4, 5.5 and 6 just fine.  They will also run Final Cut Pro X just fine.  Ditto for most any application you may want to use.
Below are some notes (specific to your apparent requirements) that may help you with your purchase decision:
Notes on purchasing a 21.5" iMac
All 21.5" iMacs come with 8GB RAM but you cannot add more later.  I strongly suggest getting the maximum RAM (16GB) when you order the iMac.
The basic hard drive is a 1TB 5400rpm drive.  It will work fine with Adobe CS but you will probably want the added speed of the optional 1TB Fusion drive for better performance. Some people will recommend/argue for one of the optional SSD drives instead, but they are very expensive and still only come in relatively small capacities - I don't recommend the SSD drives.  Get the Fusion drive and spend any extra money on a good external hard drive for backup and/or extra storage instead of an SSD.
Notes on purchasing a 27" iMac
All 27" iMacs come with 8GB RAM and you can add more later, up to 32GB
The basic hard drive is a 1TB 7200rpm drive - it will be fine with Adobe CS.  There are upgrade options to a 3TB 7200rpm drive or a 1TB or 3TB fusion drive - these will be fine also.  There are also SSD drive options, but I do not recommend them. (Same comments as above.)
Notes on all the current iMacs
iMacs no longer come with built-in CD/DVD drives.  If you need one, you will need to purchase the Apple Superdrive accessory drive ($79)
All of the iMac graphic processors (GPU's) are compatible with Adobe CS 4, 5.5, 6
It is very difficult to impossible to change or upgrade the hard drive later on, so don't buy low-end thinking you can add a better internal hard drive later.
Be aware that Macs always come with the latest (most recent) version of OS X.  And OS X Mavericks (10.9) is due to be released soon (in the next month or two).  There is no guarantee that the older Adobe CS 4 or 5.5 versions will run on OS X Mavericks.  If you cannot upgrade to CS 6 in the near future, you may want to purchase now rather than after OS X Mavericks is released.
For what it's worth, I'd recommend the 27" iMac if your budget can afford it.  You will appreciate the larger screen size and added capabilities over the years you will use the computer.

  • Help with multiple monitors

    Hi Guys,
I've run in to a bit of an issue with my MP. I run three monitors off two GT120 cards. They work great in OSX and did work fine in Win7. We've just moved and when Ifired up the mac again at the new place the three monitors work fine in OSX still but when I bootcamp in to Win7 it will only work with one monitor if I power up the other two it either rearranges the screens around of blanks them all so that I end up with a black screen that I can move the mouse pointer around on and the other screens say they have no input and switch off. Occasionally win7 shuts down completely!
It's got me baffled.......I don't know windows that well to start rummaging around too much and OSX is working fine so the hardware is OK. HELP!!
    Cheers
    Mike
P.S. Everything is up to date.............in fact nothing has changed since the whole set-up was moved to the new house.

I think I have it worked out. I put the Kona card in "input passthrough" mode and all seems to work just fine. I had it in MacIntosh desktop and that was causing my problem
If any other suggestions I am sure open to them.
    Thanks

  • Monitor(video) on emac blew up, need help with external monitor....

Hello everyone, I have an old Emac which the monitor popped and stopped working. I bought the plug and had an external older monitor working once, then I plugged in a newer monitor and now neither will work. The xternal monitor has a small blue rectangle bouncing around saying "please check pc display settings. I tried to reset the ram by restarting the Emac and holding down the command, option,p, and r buttons. This made the second restart sound, but the video still does not work. Is there another sequence to reset? Am I doomed now? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Hello again, yes it was the picture tube that went. the smell was awful. The machine still runs, but since I plugged the flat screen monitor into it, it will not display either monitor. It was working once with an older monitor, but now it just diplays "adjust pc display settings". I needs to view the emac so I can retrieve my files. I've also tried resetting the pram, but that did not work. What can I do? I'm stuck. Thx.

  • Please help with strange monitor/Lightroom 4 interaction problem

I bought a Dell Ultrasharp U3011 yesterday, and I'm now facing a very strange problem. It's sort of related to the common discussed issue of Lightroom's color management, but there is a twist here. I'll explain.
The monitor I had been using (and still have) was a Samsung SyncMaster 244T. I had no problems at all with it.
With the U3011, I've run into this problem:
-When I view files in Lightroom 4, the colors are muted and contrast low. The same files seen in Xnview, ACDSee Pro (with the color management turned off), Digital Photo Professional (colorspace set to sRGB), are much more vivid. In Photoshop, if I use the default color setting, it looks muted like Lightroom (I'm guessing because Adobe products have default color profile set to ProPhoto RGB), but if I set the color profile to the monitor's profile, it becomes vivid and matches the other software I mentioned. If I use any other profile such as sRGB IEC81966-2.1, ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB, etc, it doesn't match the other software I mentioned. This is strange because the other ones match each other because they are set to sRGB, but in Photoshop, even if I set the color profile to sRGB, it still doesn't match.
-In Lightroom 4, even if I use Soft Proofing, nothing changes. It's as if Soft Proofing is broken--it doesn't do anything, no matter what color profile I choose.
-Now, here's the twist. I didn't have any of these problems when I use the 244T. This leads me to assume that the problem is how the U3011 is interacting with Lightroom. I did a quick comparison of opening up the same image on both monitors in ACDSee Pro, and they looked identical. (At this point, I had the U3011's preset set to sRGB. This is the only preset that makes the U3011 look identical to the 244T).
Next, I did an experiment, and I was very surprised by what happened. This is what I did:
With both monitors as a dual display setup, I turned on Before/After comparison in Lightroom (made sure both version had the same setting and look identical by copying the After's setting to Before). I then moved Lightroom's window so that one photo is seen on the U3011, and the other shows up on the 244T. And OMIGOD, they looked different! Why is this happening? I've already established that the same image looks identical on both monitors when viewed with ACDSee Pro, but in Lightroom, they looked different on each monitor.
And then things got even more weird. When I dragged the Lightroom window fully to one monitor or the other, Lightroom actually started changing the colors right before my eyes as it responded to which monitor was displaying which photo! Lightroom was somehow interacting with the monitor in real-time. So if the Before looked muted on U3011 and the After looked vivid on the 244T, when I drag the whole window into 244T, the muted Before will stay muted for about a second or so, and then it'll suddenly change and become identical to After. And when I did the reverse (drag the window into U3011), the reverse also happened--the vivid After will stay vivid on U3011 for about a second or so, and then it would suddenly change and become muted. Lightroom was identifying each monitor's color profile setting and changing the images according to which monitor was doing the displaying, and when the images were split between the two monitors, Lightroom was slitting them into two different settings to match whichever monitor is displaying which side.
So what the hell does that all mean, and what can I do to get Lightroom to display the photos so that they look the same as on all the other software I mentioned (so I don't have to play the guessing game of editing the images, export them out to other software to check how they turned out). Also, remember that I didn't have this problem with the 244T--Lightroom displayed the photos the same way as the other software I mentioned. The problem right now is that the U3011 is somehow causing Lightroom to display the photos differently, and no color profile presets in the OSD control can make them match.
I need to solve this problem, or else my last resort would be to return the U3011 and try another brand/model and see if that helps.
    Any ideas?

Yes, that's basically sensible advice you got there (but I was more succinct ).
An important point that was mentioned over there is that you must not confuse document/source profile with monitor profile. They are both links in the color management chain, but they serve different purposes. The document profile defines the colors in a standard color space. The monitor profile describes the monitor's own native color space - its response to the RGB numbers it's fed. So one is translated into the other, by the application on the fly, through a normal profile conversion, and that way the colors appear on-screen as intended.
If those two profiles/color spaces are roughly similar, as they would be in the case of an sRGB document displayed on a standard gamut display - then you can get by without color management. It won't look too far off. But a wide gamut monitor changes the rules, because its native color space is not similar to sRGB, it's much closer to Adobe RGB.
Anyway, this is what color management is about. Any profile can be translated into any other. So in this context it doesn't really matter what color space the document is in - as long as you have a good monitor profile it will display correctly (within practical limitations). Lightroom is a sort of special case because its internal working color space is not one of the standard ones, instead it's a modified ProPhoto space with linear gamma. But the basic principle is exactly the same: source profile > monitor profile.
Just to go a little more in-depth while I'm at it: When you calibrate a display you actually do two separate things. You first calibrate it to a more or less standardized response. But that's just a linear one-dimensional correction. It does nothing about how color is actually reproduced, how red is red for instance. The calibration is global and affects everything system-wide because it's read into the video card or monitor hardware.
Then, once calibrated, a monitor profile is made. This is a full, complete and accurate description of the monitor's behavior, in three-dimensional color space. The precision level is much higher. This profile is used, by color managed applications like Lightroom and Photoshop, to display the image.
Other applications that are not color managed will simply ignore this profile, and send the RGB numbers straight through to the display, unmodified. With a standard gamut monitor (and an sRGB document) the difference won't be too dramatic and you may not notice it unless you look closely. But a wide gamut monitor will make the difference jump out immediately.

Ok, the system has some DVD burners and a huge 120 mm fan heat sink for the processor and a 850 watt power supply as well.
The OS 64-bit windows 7 is installed all by itself on the 500 GB Drive C.  I currently have the 4 1 TB samsungs on a Raid-0 for all project video files and other content.  After reading many of Harms posts I may just set them all up as stand alone drives and split things up a bit for performance.
CS5 runs well with the Mercury playback engine, and when importing normal DV video from DVCAM through a Blackmagic HD/SD-SDI Decklink card off of a DSR-1800 deck works fine.  The issue I am having is when we use still images, or like when we imported some Mac ProRess 422 footage, the system will scrub through it fine but when you try and play the timeline it freezes.  I did notice an error shows up in the lower right corner saying frames were dropped.
From everything I reaserched with this system purchase, having the Quadro FX 4800 was supposed to make everything run smooth and take out render times. This machine is supper fast for everything else but seems to have issues doing simple things with images that have been scaled in the effect controls.  If the footage is basic SD video edits no problem.  Still images are large sometimes, but nothing his old 2003 Pinicle Liquid can't handle after some render time.
If the GPU acceleration is on, and I play the timeline, few seconds and then stops.  If I turn off GPU, and hit enter to have it Render, it plays fine after Render is complete.  Seems like something is not feeding the GPU/CPU the data fast enough.
Any thoughts.  Is the Xeon not the right direction, should I swap for a Core i9?  Xeon rates really high on the CPU benchmark... Shows up as 8 cores due to hyperthreading.
    Any idea's would be great,
    Thank you,

    Update:
I swapped my processor with the i7-950 chip and even though the windows Experience Index went from 7.4 to 7.5 on the processor calculations per second.  My scores are Memory: 7.5, Graphics: 7.1 3D: 7.1 Primary hard disk performance is 5.9 making that the total score.
I will run the benchmark again on the system tomorrow and post the results of a chip change.
I have not changed the drive configuration or changed windows services yet.  I talked to black magic tech support and he said that for SD video I should be fine with 2 standard 7200 RPM drives.  He was surprised I was having the dropped frames with the 4 disk raid 0.  He said to test in another machine just to see if the card could be bad.
I found a utility on the machine that is part of the black magic software that tests the hard drives.  Here are the results:
Boot drive.  It is a Seagate Barracuda ES.2 ST3500320NS
    Scratch drive Raid 0 array- 4- SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM
From the numbers it looks like the Raid 0 is giving much better performance over the single drive, but why am I still having the problems.  The dropped frames issue is still happening so I am going to try to move the black magic card to another PCI-e slot on the motherboard. I may have to try another brand of HD-SDI input/output card.
I am going to test the card in another editor that does not have an intel processor or near the specs of this system just to rule out the card or the hardware as I found this on Blackmagic website:
    15 March 2010 — Number 193
    Asus P6T series motherboards
The Asus P6T series of motherboards are currently incompatible with all x1 lane PCI Express products from Blackmagic Design. This includes the Intensity series cards as well as DeckLink SDI and DeckLink Studio. This incompatibility is being actively investigated but a possible resolution to the problem is currently unknown.
This incompatibility only affects x1 lane PCI Express cards from Blackmagic Design. Our x4 lane PCI Express products work fine with the Asus P6T series of motherboards and these include the DeckLink HD Extreme and Multibridge family of capture devices.
UPDATE: We have been informed that this issue has been resolved with the latest BIOS update from Asus. If you're running into issues with our x1 lane PCI Express cards and your motherboard, please check the manufacturers' website to see if there's a newer version of BIOS that you can use.
    Back...
Now, I have the Asus P6T7 WS Supercomputer.  I did do a Bios Update today but do not know if the issue refered to in this support notice also applies to my model of motherboard.  The tech at BlackMagic did not seem to know about this issue.
Does anyone have any other idea's of what I could be missing?  If it turns out to be an incompatible motherboard I do not have a problem with changing it.  I would like to know if anyone is having a successful setup using the Decklink SDI with CS5 without any issues of dropped frames on items that are GPU rendered.  If I turn off the GPU acceleration and have to hit enter for render it isn't an issue as the "preview files" created when rendered are smaller and easier to play from the hard drives.
The timelines that have issues are using still images of 3-4 megapixel sizes that are being shrunk and moved on the timeline to fit in NTSC 4:3 output.  I could probably stop the issue if I resized the pictures to 1 Megapixel or smaller and used the smaller version but the yellow bar is telling me it can do that conversion on the fly.  Why drop frames??????
Thanks, (sorry for the long post)

  • Help with new hard drive and data recovery

I have a macbook pro 13" from early 2011...last week the hard drive crashed and after a few hours at the genius bar had to got  tekserv to recover my data and get a new hard drive and update to 8GB of Ram.  When I got my macbook back I was given an external hard drive that had everything from my old hard drive saved by the users on the old hard drive.  I was hoping I could just transfer the user over to the new hard drive but since I had to restart the computer as a new computer I am not able to just reassign my old profile as the new one on this laptop.  Maybe I've done something wrong but at this point I transferred all my documents over, moved my music and pictures over but I have a few things I can't figure out that I'm hoping someone can help with.

So it looks to me like both displays are being detected.  The geometry looks such that one display is on top of the other, but I can change that using an xorg.conf.d config file (e.g. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mu … xorg.conf).  I also tried using arandr.
The real problem is that the display on HDMI3 just isn't "waking up".  The power is on, but it just sits there in sleep mode.
Any help would be great.  I might just be missing something simple.  Thanks.
Edit:  I just saw a short list of window managers near the bottom of the Arch Multihead page (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mu … _xorg.conf).  I don't see openbox on that list.  Does that mean I'm SOL if I want to use openbox with multiple monitors?  This page seems to imply that it should work fine with openbox http://magnatecha.com/dual-monitors-wit … nd-xrandr/.

I use XFCE, and when I boot my computer I just run:
    xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --auto --output DVI-I-2 --auto --left-of DVI-I-1
I'm assuming if you modify the names appropriately that it'll work too.  I have had issues before trying to run dual monitors without taking both outputs off of a single video card (which is what I'm doing now).  For example, I had a graphics card with one (VGA) output and a VGA output on my motherboard.  But, connecting the graphics card disabled the on-board VGA.  So it is possible (I'm not an expert here) that two displays coming off the motherboard may not work for hardware reasons.

  • Can any one help with new iOS 7.1 update?

    Hello,
    I have recently downloaded the iOS 7.1 update and it has being causing problems with the iPhone 4s. The problems are as follows;
No Wi-Fi connection all, and in full range of a connection (If and when I connect its for 10 seconds and gone again)
    Battery Life depleting quickly
    iPhone freezes constantly
iPhone getting extremely hot when not in use.
Is there anything that I can do that can help with this or will I have to wait for the next iOS update?
    Kieran

If I restore as new without the backup & everything seems to be fine, I assume I would then have to restore it from my latest backup in iTunes in order to get all (or at least most) of my data back.
From what I have read, it looks like at least the music I have on my iPhone 4S that I put there from a CD I own would not be in my backup.  That is not a major problem, since it is only 1 CD.
It also seems like the iTunes backup is more complete than the iCloud backup (I do have both).
So, I should probably be restoring from that backup.
Is there anything else that is not backed up in an iTunes backup that I should consider before I do that?
When I backup in iTunes (or even in iCloud), some items not backed up?
Wouldn't I then have to re-install those items that are not in my backups?
I have a Medical app from my local ambulance operator where I have taken a ton of time to input all of my medical information going back numerous years.  I just got tired of some medical person constantly asking me for information one never really makes a point of remembering.  Now, I have all of that information in my iPhone 4S.
There is no way I would want to reinstall that app & re-input all of that information again.
I also put a lot of "lists" in the Notes area on my iPhone 4S.
I understand that is also something that is not backed up.
    These are just 2 examples.
I also have other items that I am under the impression also are not backed up.
Losing any of that information would be a huge burden to recover.
I am willing to take a chance with some items that are not backed up to either iTunes nor iCloud.
But, knowlingly doing something that may lose that information is not something I am willing to do.
OR, am I just not understanding what is and is not backed up in iTunes or iCloud & what I could potentially lose?

  • Help with faulty monitor

    Hi all
I have a 19" CRT monitor which I use with my G5. The monitor has developed a fault and I wonder if anyone might be able to help diagnose what the problem is.
Whenever there is a large area of white on the screen the picture develops a high frequency wobble in a horizontal band accross the screen. This is accompanied by a squealing sound from the monitor itself.
Does anyone know what might be the cause of this and is it likely to be repairable?
    Thanks in advance...
    Derek.

Letter from LaCie technical support. It seemed to help me, the monitor is working fine, must have been loose connection.
Thanks for contacting LaCie Technical Support. Try the following to see
    if they resolve your issues:
--Try a different VGA cable to eliminate that as a cause (if this
    monitor's cable is not built-in).
--Try the monitor on a different computer or a different monitor on the
same computer to verify it is not a video card issue.
The following two especially apply if the monitor has been moved, or
there have been changes in the environment around the monitor.
--The monitor can be affected by magnetic or electromagnetic energy.
Make sure there are no magnets on or by the monitor (especially
speakers). Keep the monitor and its cables away from motors,
high-voltage areas, electrical cords, metal poles, etc.--anything that
can produce or conduct electricity or magnetism.
----The monitor can be affected by dirty power. Put the monitor on a
power conditioner on a dedicated circuit if at all possible. Appliances
sharing the same circuit can cause trouble--blenders, microwaves,
hairdryers, fans, even other monitors, etc. Also, try a different
circuit in case the circuit you are using is wired incorrectly.

  • HELP with HP monitor 2309m

Today I turn on my HP monitor and I get only a color patterns.
    http://youtu.be/2bgwI4rh2Lc
The cable is well attached to the monitor and the PC, I also changed the VGA cable.
My PC is sending the video signal, I tested it with another monitor.
As soon as I turn on my monitor, those patterns appeared. I turned off the monitor and turned it on again, and they reappeared. They are like a test pattern.
Can someone tell me what is wrong with my monitor and how can I fix it?
    Thanks!

    Hello @Gannd,
I understand that your HP Pavilion 2309m LCD wide-screen monitor is only giving you color patterns on it's display. I am providing you with some steps you can try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
Step 6. Try different cables between your computer and monitor.
If the above steps did not resolve your issue you can try the monitor on a computer or other device to see if the issue persists. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836.
