Help with no os installed!

Hello! Recently I reset my macbook pro due to it running extremely slow. I did a full system wipe and lost all my files which is fine. But, I get prompted to a meny with several options:
1. Restore from time machine back up (Which I don't want)
2. Reinstall OS X ( I wish to do this but read on)
3. Get Help Online (Jee thanks)
4. Disk Utility
So I wish to reinstall OS X so this way I can start using my computer again, but when I click it it says sign into an apple ID where you purchasd OS X, the only problem is that this is a used computer, so I dont have the person's apple id nor do I think I can retrieve.it. I'm fine with spending 20-50 dollars are purchaing the OS but there is no option to do so. Please help!

What OS was running on it before you played with it?
What model MBP?

  • Some help with the 10g install, please.

    Hi,
We want to install 10g, we are currently running 9i. We want to do this in silent mode since we have so many databases to move to 10g. We've got a few questions & concerns about the procedures that are supposed to be done.
If someone could kindly read over some of our concerns, we'd appreciate it.
First, we used the -record method to create a response file. How much do we have to manually edit that file once Oracle creates it for us? Or is it ready to go after we exit the OUI.
When we tried to do the install, it said it successfully installed 10g, but it failed on some of the configuration assistants. Do we need to run all of the configuration assistants? I mean, TNS is already configured. Does it change for the 10g install?
Additionally, once the 10g software is complete, the environment is still set to 9i. How does that get changed for the silent install to continue with the DBUA? I mean, we do have databases that need upgrading.
Any help with steps would be very helpful to us. We're getting error messages like this:
The installation of Oracle Database 10g was successful, but some
optional configuration assistants failed, were cancelled or skipped.
    Please check
    '/ora2/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/silentInstall2006-10-26_01-26-39PM.log'
    for more details.

  • SCCM Driver Injection : What am I missing? Need help with getting drivers installing correctly in my environment.

    Everyone,
I'm not new to using SCCM, but i'm VERY new to setting up and managing it.  I have just laid it down for the school district that I manage, and i'm loving it.  Imaging is going great, all but one thing now...drivers installing.
Let me tell you what I've been doing, so hopefully a kind soul out there can tell me where my logic of the driver "injection" process is lacking and might can fill in some gaps.
I downloaded all drivers pertaining to the 7-8 series of computers we have in our environment currently, and imported them based on a criteria such as this:
    x86.LenovoEdge71.Desktop
    x86.DellOpti755.Desktop
    so forth and so on
I created packages based on the same exact naming scheme.  I update my distribution point at the end of the import, and all the drivers/packages/categories are in place.  When I go to Monitoring/Distribution Status/Content Status, all of my packages
show up , but under targeted it says 0.
My thoughts from reading online, is I upload all these drivers and during my task sequence where it says it's "applying device drivers" it's set to "install only the best matched compatible drivers" and "consider drivers from all
categories".  I also checked "do unattended installation of unsigned drivers no versions of Windows where this is allowed".
so correct me if my thinking is incorrect, it should search through all series of the computers we have in our environment and grab the best drivers from the overall database.  Is this not right?
The reason I ask this, is we have a few hundred HP 6000 Pro desktops.  WHen I image them, it comes up with 2 unknown devices.  OF these, I can manually point them at the folder from which I uploaded the drivers for this series/category and it installs
    100% successfully...MANUALLY.  What's the reasoning behind this?
I can't help but think there's something missing in my process / logic and I need to be set straight.
Can someone out there tell me what i'm doing wrong?  We're planning a district-wide re-imaging before summer's over, and the clock's ticking...but the drivers being installed are all that's keeping us from starting our migrations.
Any help on this is GREATLY appreciated, thank you very much!

You have setup everything correct, but for your desired result you need to use "Apply Driver Package" Task rather than "Auto Apply Drivers".
Auto Apply drivers will install the best matched/compatible drivers for only the PNP devices. For more info on this:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680990.aspx
Whereas "Apply Driver Package" would install all drivers you have in the package and hence you don't see the unknown drivers in device manager. For more info on this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680403.aspx
If you have multiple models, create this task for each model individually and then associate with a WMI query condition under Options tab to check the manufacturer/model
Example: Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem where Manufacturer = "HP" and Model Like "6000%"

  • Help with CF9 Standard Install and Mac OS Server (Snow Leopard Server)

    Hello,
I recently purchased a mac mini server (with snow leopard server) and will be using it to host my CF9 applications.  This install is WAY different than the install needed on a windows machine.  I tried to install it once and somehow hosed up Apache and now I can't even get it to start up (apache).  So I am having the colo company to do a full restore of the server and I took notes on the Mac Server install and below is the questions I have.
1.) Since Snow Leopard Server comes with Apache webserver, it is what CF wants to use.  This is fine, I just need to know where these things are...
It is asking for the Configuration Directory:  I'm guessing it is /private/etc/apache2 ? Right or Wrong???
2.) It is asking for Directory and file name of server binary:  It currently defaults to /usr/sbin/httpd  is this right or should I point it to another directory?
3.) It is asking for Directory and file name of server script: It currently defaults to /usr/sbin/apachectl  is this right or should I point it to another directory?
It also wants the location where I can place the CFIDE.  Can I place this anywhere I wish or is there a preferred location to point this to?
and finally, I have CF9 Standard, so on the mac server should I install it as a server configuration (self contained instance) or Enterprise Multiserver config.  I was reading online that its better to install as an Enterprise Multiserver setup, but I don't know if this will work for me since I'm useing the standard edition.
Please Help ANYONE, if you have mac os experience and installing CF9 onto a mac server
    Thanks

I have been getting this exact same problem.  CF installer is somehow writing some invalid information into the httpd.conf file.  I was able to replace the httpd.conf file with the default one, and was able to go through the webconnector process again and (sometimes randomly) it works.  I also spent about 4 hours on the line with adobe CF support and made no progress beyond what I'll post here .
To answer your questions about file locations:
    /private/etc/apache2/ for the httpd.conf files
/usr/sbin/ for both the apachectl and the httpd binaries
Although I'm able to get past where you are, and it seems to work correctly, Immediately upon adding a new site via server admin it all breaks.  Coldfusion then will only work if I manually go to a cfm document.  For example:  http://example.com/ will give me the raw text from the (default index) index.cfm file.  But typing http://example.com/index.cfm works.
I am lost here as well.  After 4 hours on the phone with adobe support I would have hoped it would be an easy fix.  I've completely nuked and reinstalled the server from scratch with the exact same results both times.
Does anyone have the slightest clue about what may be going on here?

This is really frustrating me, but I recently uninstalled v4.3 and have been struggling to re-install ANY version of the DM onto my XP Pro machine.  I have followed every bit of advice I can find including clean un-install / install, change the TEMP environment variable, unzip the installer and store locally, but I still can't figure this out.
I've been studying the installer log file, and I think this might be a clue:

  • Need help with 10gAS infrastructure install on RH linux

Attempting to install a 10g Infrastructure (10.1.2.0.4) on an RedHat ES 4.0, update 2 Server (Brand new clean install of OS followed by install of Infrastructure.) System is a AMD64 3000+ with 2GB memory (we will be loading the AS on this same server, so we went with extra memory.)
Following the Installation guide to the letter (even caught and corrected the incorrect SHMMAX parameter value in the QIG)… All of the pre install steps completed. During the actual install accepting mostly defaults… (changing group to oinstall vice oracle and putting in the system name where required are the only 2 “changes” I can think of…)

I would swear that this worked once before when I have the server at home (and not attached to the network) but we have tried to re-install (both OS and Oracle from the ground up) while not connected to the network and still get this error… (we have another LDAP on the network that we thought was conflicting, but have eliminated that as a prossiblity.)
This is the production version of the Oracle applications server, so I would assume that if a number of people were having a problem, I would see something in either OTN or Metalink and I don’t see it in either…
The only difference I can see is that I am using Update 2 vice Update 1 (the certified version)… I can try going back but V1 but would that make that much difference?
I see several others have done this without a problem so I home they can help… Ideas from anyone?
    Thanks.
    Michael
<Note: Cross posted on Identity Management forum (as it's an SSO error)>

    Hi Michael!
The problems I had with SSO were way different than your problems. What came to my mind is to check the network settings of the machine. What I usually do is to set the hostname and the domain in the /etc/sysctl.conf .I have a ES40u2 were I had no problems whatsoever.

Please try installing in the root user account and check.
    or
You can try reinstalling Adobe application manger. Go to HD>library>application support>adobe>caps and rename the caps folder.

  • Need help with arch linux install!

Hello, let me start off by telling you about the predicament I'm in at the moment. I've been trying to install arch linux on with a cd-drive that has been failing for a little over a year now, so you can already see where my problem starts!  The cd-drive, however will work with such cd's as Windows, Ubuntu, and Slackware, which I'm happy with. Yet, archlinux doesn't work so much.
And now maybe my solution. I've got a usb cd drive, that I've had laying around that works well, just not well enough for my bios to be able to boot from; which is horrible I know. I've searched the bios for loading a usb cd drive and everything else, including google so I don't think I'm going to get anywhere with that one. Anyways what I'm thinking of doing is that when archlinux is in the terminal right before you type the "/arch/setup" command, I would like to know if there is any command that allows you to change the cd it boots the cd from to go right into the installation. I'm still working on easying my out of the newbie stage of linux at the moment, but I've never run into a command like that, that would help me out. Hopefully there is one though, because I would very much like to archlinux to work, so please respond! Right now I'm running elinks through the terminal right before you type "/arch/setup". Thanks!

    loosec wrote:
So you get through the boot process just fine then on your old CD drive. The only thing you should have to do after that is to throw your CD into the USB CD drive and proceed with the installation. The installer should then ask you what CD drive you would like to use when you choose install from CD.
Another way to do it would be to switch cd like above and then manually mount your /dev/[your_usb_cd_here] on /src. The installer then has to be pointed to this place as the source of your installation. To find out what your usb cd drive is called you should unplug it, then replug it and run: dmesg
The mount command might also need to be shown that this is a cd so:
    mount -t iso9660 /dev/[usb_cd_device_name] /src
    should do the trick.
If you really want to learn more of what the installer does (and fail installing a few times) you should also check out the command
    /arch/quickinstall
If your Internet connection is up for it, it seems like you could just choose an FTP install instead.
    Goodluck!
Once the CD is removed from the drive that it was booted from. the installation will not continue, as the arch install always goes back to the boot drive to continue read the neccessary information for the install. I do not think there is a way to fool the computer into booting from one cd drive and then continueing on with another. To do this you would have to tell the computer that you are switching drives.
If you can boot up the CD kernel and get to where you type in /arch/setup then the next thing I would od is FTP install. That would limit your CD rom drie usage.
There is also a way to install arch from within another distro, EVEN ANOTHER LIVECD! <-- this may be your best bet. Check the wiki, there is tons of information there.

  • Please help with RED HAT INSTALL

I am trying to install jdk (or whatever have they changed it's name to) 1.3.1 on Red Had Linux, but i run into this problem:
The file I get is called:
    j2sdk-1_3_1-linux-i386-rpm.bin
and it is supposed to be a rpm file that when ran with rpm installs the application.
But if i try to run rpm -ivh j2sdk-1_3_1-linux-i386-rpm.bin it says that this file doesn't look to be an RPM file. I am trying to install as root so there is no security issue.
    Any help is welcome,
    Calin

    j2sdk-1_3_1-linux-i386-rpm.bin
I had the same problem with Debian. What I wound up
doing was renaming the file. Try
    mv j2sdk-1_3_1-linux-i386-rpm.bin j2sdk-1_3_1-linux--386-rpm
    It should work after that.

  • Help with a re-install or something!

Upgraded mac around a month and a half ago and system has been absolutely dire ever since. Takes several minutes to boot (used to take no more than 10 seconds - was brand new in Nov 2014). PowerPoint, Word, Excel all cause it crash at least 5 times a day (I'm a teacher and cannot simply stop using these or switch to pages etc.). Safari crashes regularly, USB drives won't eject themselves... I use laptop approximately 2-3 hours a day and it crashes at least 4 times a day.
I can only assume these problems are associated with Yosemite update as it wasn't nearly this bad before. I have read people talking about a "clean install" etc. can anyone help talk me through how to do this? I haven't a clue but can't keep using the laptop without throwing it out a window!!!!
    Thanks!

Hope this helps - I don't really understand any of it!

  • Help with new SSD install

I've installed a new Crucial m500 ssd hard drive into my late 2008 macbook pro but when I start it up i'm getting a disc symbol with a question mark. Can anyone advise please?
I think I may need to clone the new drive first but I don't have a SATA cable and I kind of wanted to start fresh. I have backed up my data onto Time machine stored on my WD mybook live so I thought I could reinstall from there once I had installed the new SSD into the macbook.
I've never done this before and not so great with Mac's or Pc so any advice would be a huge help.
    Thanks

You're getting the disk symbol and question mark because there's no OS on the new SSD.
Another method to do this would be to reinstall your old drive. Create a USB thumb drive (4GB) Recovery HD using the OS X Recovery Disk Assistant. You will need to download the Disk Assistant first then run it against your thumb drive. This puts the Recovery HD from your internal drive onto the thumb drive. Then reinstall your SSD and boot into your thumb drive via selecting it when pressing the Option/Alt key. From the thumb drive you'll have the OS X Utilities menu so you can format your SSD and install OS X. And during Setup of  OS X for your SSD you can use your Time Machine back up (if you  have one) to migrate user accounts, data and apps.

  • Help with botched Tiger install from failed 10.5 upgrade

I had Tiger on my Macbook then a mate lent me his OSx 10.5.6 installation disc. Big mistake!
I loaded this new OS on the Macbook but the iMail wouldn't work.
I then went back to my Apple-purchased 10.4.8 installation discs and tried to reload OSx 10.4.8, following the on-screen instructions for going back to 10.4 from 10.5.
Disc 1 of the 10.4.8 loaded fine but was then asked for disc 2 which I loaded. The Install Prog read and loaded from this second disc but the install failed with the error message: "There were errors installing the software, please try again".
The only option I have is to click CLOSE
In doing so, the Mac reboots then opens up again on the Install Prog box that asks me insert Mac OSX Install Disc 2.
I am trapped in this loop and cannot get out!
How do I fix this and either go to OSX 10.4 or my mates OSX 10.5???!
    HELP!!!

When I tried to do exactly what you said, I got the error message "Public can't be modified or deleted because it is required by Mac OS X. The only thing I could find in my old Username Public folder was Dropbox and seeing as I never really used this, not having the contents on my rebuilt Macbook isn't really a worry for me.
I got the same error message when I tried to copy over all the other folders too.
So I opened each folder in question and copied over the contents of each folder to the contents, i.e. old version to new version (often I had to open sub-folders to copy contents over to sub-folders because I kept getting the "...can't be modified of deleted because it is required by Mac OS X" error message).
When I'd finished doing this, the folder Oldusername in /Previous Systems.localized/Previous System 1/User still has 4.23GB of stuff in it that I can't copy over but when I looked into the remaining stuff in Old User I found a massive amount of stuff in the Downloads folder which I won't miss.
I then rebooted and crossed my fingers...
FANTASTIC - my Desktop data returned and EVERYTHING SEEMS GREAT!!!
Just to be on the safe side, I ran REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS on the parent 186.3 GB Toshiba disc on the left hand side of the Disk Utility and then rebooted again.
THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH!!! Phew!!!
So both my Macbook and my iMac are now running the same version of Mac OS X 10.5.8
However, why is it that the Mail on my Macbook allows me to open Preferences no problem at all but the Mail on my iMac won't let me do this??? This is a real pain as I want to add a new account to my iMac Mail as well as alter some signatures and set up some new rules.
    Any suggestions?
    I'm running Mail version 3.6...

  • Help with video board install

    Here is my problem:
I bought a used video board (GeForce 7800 GT) to put in my G5 dual core 2ghz) Mac. But when I installed the board I get no monitor. I've made sure the power cord is plugged in and watched it spin up... but no monitor.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I purchased the board on Ebay from someone that took it out of a PC. Could this be the problem? Or do I need to download some type of driver?
PLEASE HELP! The board I'm using does not run Aperture very good at all!
    Tim

PC videocards do not generally work in macs. If you are technically inclined, you may be able to flash the card with the strangedogs files. If you are not so inclined, you may wish to sell the card and purchase a mac-dedicated card instead. (Unfortunately there are few if any third-party mac-compatible cards for your generation of machine currently.)

    Please help

    Hi minnie,
Look into the HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ directory and see if you have the below two files:
    Flash Player.plugin
