Help with Open Browser Window

I built a site named greenscapepump.com. I used the behavior
"Open Browser Window" that allows a photo to be viewed in a smaller
window. I have it set up to double-click the photo name to go to
the browser window. It works on some computers but not others. I
used the same behavior on other pages in the same web site and it
is working on all computers.
The three pages under the menu "Portfolio" are: Architectural
Fountains, Waterfalls and Streambeds, and Floating Fountains, are
the pages that have problems with this behavior on some computers.
Is this an individual computer problem, or do I need to do
something in Dreamweaver to fix it?

OMG - the code on the architecturalfountains page is a horror
Why do you need to use doubleclick.... most users are
accustomed to clicking
on a link wait for something to happen....
Also, the code for that dropdown is massive... are you really
committed to
that menu?
The validator found quite a few errors on that particular
page - I didn't
test each page (that's up to you :) these errors aren't
helping with your
page load also - one of the pages (can't recall which now)
just kept trying
to load and never did stop... try fixing the errors (some
more important
than others to the well being of your page) and then see
where you are at
with your pages... I'd also suggest changing the
'doubleclick' to just the
one click - really no need for anything else.

  • A:hover with "open browser window" behavior?

    Hi,
Is it possible to make a text link follow the a:hover style (CSS?) with the behavior of "open browser window"?
I've been using the "OnClick" option (for behaviors), but the cursor doesn't turn into the little hand symbol so I feel like people won't know that you can click on it.  If I could make it change color like it does when it is a direct link, or if i could make the hand symbol appear, that would be great.
    Thank you in advance!!

We'd need to see your code but I'm guessing you did not highlight the link text and make it a null link.

  • Trouble with the Open Browser Window behavior

I have a page with thumbnail images. I want to be able to
click the thumbnail and have a new window open with just that image
in the window. If I don't assign a link to the thumbnail, and
select the Open Browser Window behavior, the only 3 options for
when to open the window are onLoad, onError, or onAbort. I want it
to be opened onClick. If I do assign a link to the image, and then
select the Open Browser Window behavior, it gives me the option to
open the window onClick. However, when I test it, it opens 2 new
windows - the one I want, and the one that is the link that I
    assigned to the image.
I can't figure this out! Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Sam

You must always do the following when applying behaviors to
    images:
    1. Assign a link to the image first, even if it is a null
    link. Use the
    Property inspector to do this.
    2. Click on the image in Design view, then click on the
    <a> tag that you
see on the Tag inspector bar at the bottom of the document
    pane so that the
    anchor tag is selected.
    3. Now apply your behavior.
You *can* usually truncate this process as follows -
    1. Select the image in Design view and make sure that
    <img> is selected on
    the Tag selector bar.
    2. Apply the behavior.
    3. Use the behavior panel to set the event desired to
    <A> onClick, or <A>
onMouseOver, or any of the appropriate "<A>" containing
    items in the list.

  • Help using Dreamweaver cs3 tutorial, chapter 8, opening browser window dialog box

    Hello,
I am using the adobe classroom in a book tutorial for cs3 and have run into a snafu on page 188 of chapter 8.   I have tried to select the + sign under the smaller top photo to create a pop-up window.  when I select the + sign I cannot access the open browser window dialog box to enter info.  I cannot seem to use the link field in the property inspector for this.  The link area under source will not come up, just the link over target, which in turn will not bring up the open browser dialog box.  Any solutions?  Thanks,  DesignChambers

    Hi David,
I just had the same problem.  I cannot preview in Mozilla (or IE).  The program becomes unresponsive and I have to close it. Is there any chance that Adobe will update Dreamweaver CS3 so that we can preview in modern browsers?

  • Help with pop up window

    Hi
I am developing a site with Dreamweaver CS3. My problem is
that I need to define certain words in the site which when clicked,
open a seperate browser window that shows the definition of the
word. The new window that opens contains all the definitions to
numerous words. I have the links from each word to the definition
list window working properly but I would like the window to open
and make the word that the user clicked on be shown without the
user having to scroll to the word he is trying to define. Ex. If
the user clicks on the word "Default", when the definition window
opens, I would like the list to be scrolled automatically to that
    word.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    >
i am guessing, since we've not seen your page, that you are
    using the
target attribute to open the new window? If so, it is not
    possible to
control the size of the window that it opens. Moreover, and
    even worse,
it will spawn multiple windows - i.e. each time the user
    clicks, a brand
new window will open and need to be manually closed.
Better would be to do this using a window.open() script. DW
    offers a
built-in Behavior, called Open Browser Window. But it has its
    own
issues, not the least of which is it too spawns multiple
    windows.
I offer an inexpensive DW Extension that makes all this
    really easy. It
will not spawn multiple windows, it does not require adding a
    behavior
to each link, it can be added to all your pages at once, and
    many more
options and benefits. You can see it at

  • Hot spots and Open Browser Window

    I have created a site see www.blingbongs.com...
At the bottom right of the screen it says "meet the Crew"
which is a jpeg, with a hotspot over the top. I hae then asigned a

the machines it is just not working, the browser window doesn't
open and in fact nothing seems to happen. It doen't seem to work on
    Firefox either.
I need a reliable open browser window script that doesn't get
blocked - is it the hotspot or the java that is causing this
problem, or is it the combination of the two. Is there another form
of open browser window that we can use, or is the day of a static

How can i restrict flash game to open browser window?
i dnt want flash game to open browser window when those links
    in the games are clicked...
One restriction with me is that i can not edit that games so
i can't remove links from games...
hope there will be sol. to this prob.
    thanks in advance.................

Something like that could maybe help:
    Runtime.getRuntime.exec("iexplore http://www.google.com");
    but it's not platform independent + I couldn't let it work in that way. It only worked with Runtime.getRuntime.exec("c:\\windows\\....\\iexplore.exe http://www.google.com");
But it's surely not platform independent.
So the answer is in fact 'I don't know'.
And if you ask why am I writing all that then, the answer is 'I don't know' too.
    And if you ask why...

An easy way to do follow James sage advice, once you've added
    the Open
Browser Window behavior to your's link, is to run the free DW
    Extension
divaFreeTools on your page. It will update the DW
    OpenBrowserWindow
Behavior to work properly when javascript is off and help
    Search Engines
    find your linked page/image.

  • Open Browser Window behavior not working

Just getting started with DW from GL - have successfully imported a few sites into DW from GL and am having trouble getting the Open Browser Window behavior to work. Worked fine in GL, code is similar but different. Have tried different things and am out of ideas. I'm not too code-savy.
    Here's where the non-working behaviors/actions are: http://www.philasecurities.com/data/luncheon.html
When a user clicks on the red "more..." links they should open a new browser window like they do in the "Click
    here for previous years..." section.
    Any help would be appreciated!

bregent, thanks for your input but unfortunately most of that's greek to me. Could you either supply me with sample code for one of these links or explain what I'm doing wrong in the design mode? I've followed DW instructions and as far as I can tell I'm doing what I'm supposed to in the behaviors tag inspector. Not sure about some of the settings I should have when browsing for the linked file to open in the new browser window. What should the parameters be set to? What should the relative link be set to, document or site root? How about some of the other options like Select file name from: data sources, server, site root? I've messed with them and tried different combinations but nothings working for me.

  • "open browser window" size

I am updating a site that uses pop-ups for definitions
throughout the site. This is a medical site, so the pop-up
definitions are essential. The site was built before pop-up
blockers came onto the scene. I have tried replacing the script
with the "open browser window" action under the tag inspector but
cannot seem to get that to work. I do rely on DW for Java script as
it is not my strong suit. I cannot find a way to have small windows
open with DW - and avoid pop-up blockers. Does anyone have a
    solution?
    Thank you!

    > blocker doesn't even sound - only a new page saying
    "page cannot be found"
Then this is not the pop-up blocker at work. This means that
    your path to
    the file is wrong.
    > I will search for some updated Java
Then you won't find it - it's javascript not Java.

  • Help with opening Adobe Reader and downloading updates

I can not open Adobe .pdf files any longer (this started yesterday, prior to that I could open adobe files).
When I double click a .pdf file I get this notice on my screen: Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access file.
So I went to the Adobe download site to download a new copy of Adobe.  When I start the download I get this on the screen:  The instruction at "0x0e3a0068" referenced memory at "0x0e3a0068."  The memory could not be written.  Then two options are listed: click OK to terminate or cancel to debug.  So I click on cancel and I get this on my screen: Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer.   A malfunctioning or malicious addon has caused I.E. to close this webpage.
I don't have AVG running, I do have avast but I've disabled it.  I ran Registry Mechanic and an I.E. erasure program but nothing helps.
I have gone into I.E. and reduced the security level to its lowest state but no joy.
So, any ideas or suggestions on what's the problem and how to overcome it would be appreciated.  Thanks, in advance, for your reply.  Jim R.

Hi Mike..tried that as well but no joy.  A friend of mine was looking at it all and noticed that it was an I.E. thing as far as not letting me redownload the reader so I went to Mozilla Firefox and I could download a new version but....whenever I attempt to open a .pdf file I get that message, "Windows can not open the specified device, path or file. You man not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
Damn...this is irritating as I need to get to some of thos files as I need them for a Journal I'm working on as editor-in-chief.
It all worked just fine last Saturday but starting Monday when I was on my flight out to D.C.  no joy.

  • Open browser window behavior in Mac not working right

I am simply selecting my text in my html document and then selecting "Open Browser Window" from the Behaviors panel.  I then put in the info for the file I want it to open along with the size, etc...
When I test it in the browser (Safari) the link works but the rollover features don't show ... it doesn't show as a link in the browser window.  I followed the tutorial exactly and the instructor's browser showed the link as a rollover.  It's driving me a bit crazy.
I'm using CS5 on the latest version on Mac OS (Snow Leopard).
I can put up an example if needed.
Thanks so much for any assistance.

Do you have that page on your site?  Is that your home page?
Perhaps you have some hidden redirection going on via an htaccess file?  I dunno....

  • Open Browser Window Error

I use the Open Browser Window behavior with the <A>
onClick attribute for many images and text links on my site. Works
fine, UNTIL the page gets updated via a change on the main
template. Then the link gives me a javascript error. To fix I have
to pull up each page, open the behavior, OK to save and then resave
the page. No changes made, the code does not appear to change, but
then it works. As my site grows this is becoming more and more of a
nusiance to remeber to "fix" every page that has such behaviors on
    it.
I have search the forum, but didn'[t come across a similiar
error. Has anyone seen this. Is there a fix
    Thanks!

This means that your template does not contain the required
    javascript for
the OpenBrowserWindow behavior in the head of the page. If it
    did, then
every child page would contain the necessary code, and you
    wouldn't have to
do the song and dance that you are doing.
Make sure it goes in a NON-EDITABLE region of the template
    page.
The downside to this is that each page gets the code
    (admittedly it's a
small bite) whether it needs it or not....
So - what you should do is open the particular page that has
    just broken,
run through your procedure again (which writes the required
    code into the
head of the page, and then copy that code (from
    <script...> though
</script>), and paste it into the template page in the
    same location. When
you save the template page, all child pages will be updated.
There's one nagging problem here, though. If the procedure
    you describe is
working without error, then it is also true that DW is
    writing that markup
into an EDITABLE region of the head of the page. If that's
    the case, then
WHY IS A TEMPLATE UPDATE OVERWRITING THIS? I don't know -
    would need to see
your page to know for sure....
