Help with optical out on soundblaster live external 24-

Currently trying to connect a soundblaster li've external 24 bit box to a harmon-kardon avr 0 amplifier. We can get sound via the analog jacks but can not get any sound from the optical port. Is there a setting on the computer or the amp that makes it so it works? also the hardware mute button mutes but does not unmute. the wheel also continuously scrolls without stopping.

Anyone with an insight with WHY it was made with USB .

  • Help with Optical Audio, w/X-Fi Elite Pro, and Logitech Z-5

    Hi,
I need help with optical audio on my X-Fi Elite Pro, and Logitech Z-5500 speakers. I have everything connected, and sound comes out, but NO 5. Surround. This is pissing me off beyond belief. I have it all connected, and set to 5. Surround, and on my Logitech's I have it set to opical in, and have tried ALL effects, stereo, strereo 2x,[Dolby Sign] PL II Movie, [Dolby Sign] PL II Music. I have tried the sound card set for an external decoder, and the sound cards' decoder, and tried both with all optical settings on the sound card. It doesn't give me surround with optical... And I would REALLY appreciate help.
My drivers are up to date.
    Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!

Except if you send DD/DTS multichannel sound to your receiver, you'll not have surround sound with digital connection. did you read the stikies?

  • Which external sound card with optical out is compatible for macbook

hello guys!i got a macbook model 2011 and i want to connect with my speakers which is logitech z5500 with an optical cable!Of course i have read a lot of answers in various forums that told me about the optical out of mac which is the headphones out too!but this doesnt give me real surround 5.1 and i want something more specific such as an external sound card to give me the real sound!i prefered Creative Xfi pro but i have also read that iOSX doesnt recognize the soundcard or have various problems!
    please help me !!!!

No Creative sound cards are fully compatible with Vista at this time. Nobody really knows if or when there will be fully working, stable drivers from Creative that work with Vista. If you really need sound, the only fully working cards are from C-media I believe. My on-board C-media sound chip works perfectly with Vista.

  • Connecting Soundblaster Live External to Powered Studio Monit

I want to see what my?some currently unused?studio monitors sound like with my Itunes/Laptop/Soundblaster
setup. How do I get a signal from the Soundblaster to the studio monitor inputs? The outputs of the Soundblaster areigital
    ?SPDF RCA out
    ?Optical Out
    Analog
    ??Mini-plug labeled "Front"
    ??Mini-plug labeled "C/SUB"
??Mini-plug labeled "Rear"The KRK V6 powered studio monitors?have /4 inch phone plugs - the sort of plug you would use to plug in a guitar.
They are labeled "0K ohms"I have tried a Y-cable that has a mini-plug on the Soundblaster end and /4 inch phone plugs
on the speaker side. No sound. Can someone explain why?At this point I want to spend as little money as possible, but I do care about quality sound. Many thanks for any help.

Just get a /8 to RCA cable for the card and two Mono /4 jacks to RCA adapters for the speakers? If you use the mono jacks the negati've signal will be grounded and shunted with the negati've signal and so it works. Wenn You said the signal was crystal clear ... you actually connected the left to the positi've input and right to the negati've input, unless You used mono jacks and in that case unbalancing was performed, but the right signal was shorted... but the card can handle this short.

  • Dolby Surround with optical out scratches

When I start watching a film in iTunes with Dolby Surround the sound is scratching and it is still not possible to understand a word what they are saying. The audio is transmitted over an optical out and my codec if necessary is Perian.
    Thank you for helping!

Just thought I'd jump in and say:
1). Turn on Xbox with no disc in the drive.
2). Go to the 'Settings' menu.
    3). Select the 'Audio' menu.
4). There should be an option for Mono, Stereo and Dolby Digital <---Select Dolby Digital.
5). Pop a game in (Halo works best for this ) and enjoy!
Note that some people I know (including myself) have found that the rear speaker come out a bit quiet compared to the front speakers when playing Xbox, so you may need to adjust your speaker set accordingly.
    Hope this helps, Kaya.

  • Having problem with optical out on HD rental movie

Hi all, I just bought an Apple TV for myself for the holidays. I have the optical out going to a DAC then to my stereo, and it works fine for  music, Netflix, and iTunes Radio. However, when I rented a movie via iTunes (The Wolverine), optical out no longer worked. I did get sound through HDMI (and thus through my TV--not great, but usable).
Because this is a pure DAC (no Dolby), I had to turn Dolby Digital to Off to get Netflix to work. I tried Audio Output as both Auto and 16 bit, and neither setting worked. Audio Output = Auto works fine for everything else.
Anybody else have a similar issue? Thanks!

Turning Dolby Digital off shouldn't mean not getting any signal out of optical out. I turned it off when I had problems with Netflix movies, but now Netflix movies are fine. I'm getting sound out of optical out with them, which means that something is converting the sound signal to PCM.
The problem is that the conversion doesn't appear to be happening for iTunes movie rentals for some reason.

  • Can anyone help with an out of memory error on CS2?

    Hello,
I have been battling with an out of memory error on a dell laptop running 2gb of ram. I have had no prior issues with this laptop running CS2 until last week when I started getting the out of memory errors. I have seen several articles about this occuring on later versions of illustrator. Just prior to this issue appearing I had to delete and rebuild the main user profile on the computer due to it consistently logging into a temporary account.
Once the new profile was established and all user documents and profile settings were transferred back into it, this problem started showing up. The error occurs when clicking on files listed as Illustrator files, and when opening the illustrator suite. Once I click on the out of memory error it still continues to load illustrator. The files are located on a server and not on the remote computer. I have tried to copy the files to the local hard drive with the same result when I try to open them. I also tried to change the extension to .pdf and got no further. I tried to open a file and recreate the work and all I got was the black outline of the fonts. none of the other artwork appeared. once rebuilt, when trying to save, It gives the out of memory error and does not save the file.
Illustrator was installed on another dell laptop, same model, etc and works fine. no problem accessing network files. I just attempted to use Illustrator from the admin profile on the machine in question and it works fine and lightening fast. Just not from the new rebuilt profile. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the software. it has not helped. could there be stray configuration settings that we transfered over to the new profile that should not have been?
    Any insights will be helpful.
    Thank You,

  • Help with workflow - out of hard drive space?

Help... not sure the best way to deal with this.
I've got a Quad G5, 2 hard drives... 1 as O/S and the other for storing stuff. Well, my hard drive is full now and I've got a feeling (even if I got a new 500gig hard drive) it would be full again within 6 months. How do I deal with this?
Should I buy external drives and just run the photos off the external drives? When one get's full, go to the next? Is this the best "workflow" method. Does someone recommend something better?
And... if that is the best... won't using external hard drives slow my performance? Time is money...
    Thanks,
    jp
    G5 Quad, 4gig   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I think these are the options, or at least some of them:
    * Burn a DVD with a bunch of your pictures. Import that DVD as a folder to Aperture. You will just have references (and versions and modifications) in Aperture, and thereby save some space.
    * Take an existing Folder and Export it and put the exported file (with extension ".approject") on a DVD. If you are really short of space, delete the Folder from Aperture afterwards. Once you drag the exported file back from the DVD to Aperture, everything will be restored (I hope).
In the above paragraphs you can of course replace "DVD" with "external harddrive" or something more powerful

  • Audio out of sync with optical out

    Hi,
I've connected audio from ATV 2 times to my receiver. My Sony television has an optical out connection so it can act as a passthru for audio to my receiver. However, it's always stereo, I can't get surround from it. Apple says it sends the same audio over HDMI and optical out. So I connected ATV directly to my receiver with the optical output. Result: I do have surround now. So I guess my Sony is at fault for not passing along surround.
    This is my setup:
    1) ATV -> HDMI -> Sony LCD -> optical out -> receiver
    2) ATV -> optical out -> receiver
    My problem:
Setup 1) gives me no surround but audio and video are synced perfectly.
Setup 2) does give me surround, but audio and video are OUT of sync.
My video is generated by Handbrake 0.9.3 and contains both AAC stereo and AC3 surround passthru.
It's strange, because if you have this audio delay problem you would think it's caused by the television because that's an extra device sitting between source and receiver.
Any ideas what is causing this problem? Is Handbrake not able to add AC3 correctly or is ATV playing sound in sync over HDMI but not in sync over optical out?
    Thanks,
    Jef

Thinking about this a bit more, I think I could have an idea as to what the problem is - the AppleTV firmware. I believe that there is a timing difference between HDMI and the optical audio output. Let me explain...
My AppleTV is hooked up using HDMI for video only (direct to my TV) and the optical is hooked up directly to my audio receiver. Since there is no setting in the AppleTV menu to choose the output for the audio, I have to assume that it's sending audio through BOTH the optical output and the HDMI output simultaneously. If the timing for the audio signal is slightly different, then that could cause the audio to be out of sync. Since the HDMI signal carries both audio and video, it makes sense that it would remain tightly in sync. But since the optical is separated it could, theoretically, not be synced with the video.
As I said, both of these AppleTV units have been hooked up the identical way that they are now and have never exhibited this problem until the 2.3/2.3.1 firmware updates.
I also noticed that unplugging the unit from power for 10 minutes, plugging it back in and testing the identical file that minutes earlier was out of sync, that the video and audio were much closer to being in sync. Does this make any sense?

  • Airport Express with optical out?

I've been looking at doing some streaming music throughout my house. I was thinking the Airport Express would work since it has optical out then it could outpout to one of my other stereo systems. However after looking around I can't find it anymore.
Did Apple discontinue the Airport Express that plugs into the wall and has the optical out?

Did Apple discontinue the Airport Express that plugs into the wall and has the optical out?
Yes, a new version....with a power cord..... and a lot more....was introduced in June.
    AirPort Express
You can still get refurbished versions of the disontinued model...with "new" warranty from the online Apple Store.

  • Screeching sounds in games and other problems with Soundblaster live extern

Okay i have the USB external Creative soundblaster li've sound card. i have had a few problems. My first problem is When im in games such as Americas Army i get random Screeches like a tin can being scraped on concrete. My 2nd problem is Talking with my mic. For others to hear me MONITORING has to be enabled, there for i hear myself out of my own speakers as well. I have done everything to try and fix this, i've tried updating drivers, rolling back drivers, using windows automatic drivers. Is there an option i dont see that is causing my card to not sound good? I am using a 2.0 speaker configuration, and i only play the games with headphones on.
    please help.
thanks for your time.Message Edited by Zombeh on 0-6-2006 08:30 AM

You waited 24 hours and gave up? So I'll offer this for anybody else who reads the thread. I have a USB external SB card, but it's in a box somewhere. But IIRC, the Volume Controls work similar to other SB cards. In Volume Controls, Playback, mute the Microphone. In Volume Controls, Recording, select Microphone. This should let you "record" without hearing it on your speakers. Now if a game sets the mixer options for itself, that complicates things. If allowed, choose game audio options similar to these Volume Controls.

  • Need Help With An Application That Produces Live Images Within Tilelists

At the moment I have an application which is meant to produce live thumbnail images of websites. Currently how it does this is a html component (myhtml) loads websites via it's location property changing from website to website and upon fully loading of each site a "snapshot" is taken of the html component and saved as a bitmap and applied as the source of an image corresponding to that particular site (abcnewsimage and bbcnewsimage). However I now need to insert these snapshots within the 'icon' properties of 2 array collections (myTilelistAArrayCollection and myTilelistBArrayCollection) which act as dataproviders to populate 2 tilelists (mtTilelistA and myTilelistB).
Basically I need the same images to appear automatically within the tilelists the way they do in the 2 images as the snapshots are taken by applying the same bitmaps into the currently empty 'icon' properties of the 2 tilelists i.e. the icon of the ABC News Item of both array collections must be the same as the abcnewsimage and appear as it appears and the same for the BBC News Item icon being the same as the bbcnewsimage picture as that appears.
It should look like the images are appearing in the tilelist at the same time as they are appearing in the regular images. What will I need to put into the icon properties to do this?
I hope this makes sense and if anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated. :-)

Cheers Flex harUI. From what I can see superimage is mainly used to keep images at better quality. What I'm concerned with is having the images set within the 'icon' properties of the 2 tilelists AS they are set within their specific images. I've tried databinding by doing this for example:-
    {id:
    "ABC New Item", label:"ABCNews", icon:"{abcnewsimage.source}"},
I hoped that would cause the icon field of the array collection to be populated by the source of the abcnewsimage so that as the abcnewsimage is populated by the snapshot that is taken of the abcnews website the icon field of the abc news item in the array collection would be too so that furthermore the tilelists would then be populated by these images. Basically as each snapshot appears in it's specfic image it needs to be loaded into the icon property of the array collection too. In the end the icons should look as if they are appearing within both the tilelists the same way as they are appearing within the images if that makes sense. The images should be loading within the tilelist one at a time as they are in the regular image components.

  • Help with audio out when plugging into 3.5" jack on a MacBook's combo input

With my old iMac, I used to plug my guitar into the 3.5" microphone jack* and either used the computer's speakers or plug headphones into the separate headphone port for audio out.
Now I have MacBook Air with a headphone/mic combo port. I checked the sound settings in System Preferences and couldn't select speakers for external audio. Is there a way to assign audio-out to the speakers and keep audio-in assigned to the mic/headphone port? Or am I going to need to buy some dongle or adapter now?
*How did I connect a guitar to the 3.5" port? I used a generic computer speaker wire (3.5" on each side) and plugged a 3.5" to 1" adapter (the kind you use for stereo headphones) into the guitar.

    Hi Tim -
Please bear with me because I am no Apple expert. However, I do remember reading something that might help you out.
You wrote that you store your sound libraries are installed on an external drive. Someone, who posted either here or on another Logic bulletin board, basically stated that problems may occur if an external hard disk drive that carries the sound libraries is FAT32 or NTFS formatted (formatted for a Windows-based computer). Apparently, an external hard disk drive utilized for sound libraries should be formatted as *Mac OS Extended* (not journaled). (I hope that someone more expert on this subject will either validate this claim or suggest another option.)
Try doing a Search in this forum for more information on this subject. But I think how that external drive is formatted might make a difference on performance for the Mac computer.
I come from the PC world as well. I like both the Apple and PC systems. But I really like working with the Logic program.
    Good luck to you
    Ted
